This place is the only Korean restaurant that open on Monday on Decker Blvd and we loved it! The inside of the place is clean and modest. We got seated right away and its around 2:30 pm so pass lunch rush hour. The owner/server came and took our order right away. We had the veggies pancake, jabchae, and spicy seafood tofu stew from their lunch menu and their beef ribs. The spicy seafood tofu stew, japchae, and veggies pancake were good but the beef ribs kinda chewy. The bunchan came in 5 different tiny saucer and I was hoping they have kimchi (the Chinese cabbage kimchi) but they didnt have that as part of their bunchan. I also ordered Iced coffee and it was so good and refreshing. The server very attentive and the food came in a good amount of time. This was my first time here. I ordered the bulgogi lunch box to go. The bulgogi was amazing. Very tasty and cooked well. The rice was cooked to perfection as well. The Kimbab was my second favorite item in the lunch box. Personally I didn't care for the spring rolls. I do not like giving poor reviews, but I have to here. We have been coming here for a couple of years and have always enjoyed our meals. However, the last few times the food has not been what we had come to expect. Chicken noodle soup that was very bland, only one small piece of grayish colored chicken in it. The shrimp fried rice - they use the most tiny shrimp I've ever seen and then cut them all lengthwise, so it looks like there are a lot of shrimp in the rice. And the shrimp has no flavor either. The worst part was that we all got sick that evening and the next day with something from the food. I don't know what has happened here, but what a huge disappointment! When I think of great Korean food my mind travels all the way to Columbia South Carolina to Kimchi Korean Restaurant. I don't know what it is but I love their food. The restaurant is located in a small strip mall. You can definitely overlook it. I've been before a couple years back and after a visit to the Riverbank zoo I had to make a stop again fuel up for the ride back to Charlotte. I love the Beef Bulgogi bento box entree. It's so delicious and teamed up with all the bonchons it's plenty of food. On this visit we also got the Chicken Fried Rice since we had the kiddos with us. The fried rice was tasty but very similar to a Chinese take out fried rice. Kimchi has a very extensive menu and very authentic dishes. They play a video of photos of some of the dishes. There are a few I would like to try but I got to get my nerves up. Hopefully on the next visit I will give one an go. food was very good - we got the bibimbap and the friend rice on a saturday afternoon. never been here before, just passing through town, but a server came out and sat us seconds after we walked in. it looks like a rickety hole in the wall at first glance but it is a wonderful place. clean, tidy, fast, calm. the fluorescent lights have photo covers on them and there was calm piano music playing in the background. i didnt have to look for the restrooms , and they were clean - including the two mirrors. plenty of handsoap and paper towels. i loved this place and i would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a good place for chill food at any time. read more

I thoroughly enjoyed Kimchi! I came with a group of 5 and we had no problem getting seated at 6pm on a Monday. There was only 1 other table of people. (Although there were many people that came in to pick up take out) Everyone in my group seemed to really enjoy their food. It was very authentic. I had a seafood noodle soup and I was instantly impressed with just how much and the variety of seafood that they gave me. The menu said it was spicy, but it wasn't particularly so. It was a huge dish. I ate leftovers the next night and I still have a little left! That's my kind of restaurant! The woman who waited our table was incredibly nice! She was very sweet and tried her best to clarify things on the menu, despite a language barrier. She also gave us a complimentary appetizer because we were celebrating someone moving away. I went to Kimchi on a Thursday afternoon and there weren't many people there, so we were seated promptly and the waitress checked up on us often. I brought two kids who were very indecisive and loud, and the woman was extremely understanding and patient. The side dishes brought out had a smaller amount than I was used to, but quality was superb. The kids loved the different types of pickled radish and I thought the kimchi was some of the best I've ever had. We ordered fried dumplings as an appetizer and it was yummy. Came out steaming and crispy. I got the galbi and kimchi stew special and the kids got mild seafood ramen and mild kimchi ramen. The galbi was seasoned and cooked perfectly, not dry at all although I had some trouble pulling the meat off the bone. The kimchi stew cake out hot and bubbling. After one of the kids tried my stew, she switched her order to kimchi ramen if that tells you how good it was! The oldest loooved her kimchi ramen and the littlest kept adding spoonfuls of kimchi soup to her seafood ramen, hoping to make it spicier. Today we went for lunch: Lunch Spicy pork- not too greasy and seasoned very well. Not to overly hot and you can enjoy the pork flavor. Seaweed soup- steaming hot and great after having a baby, surgery, or for a celebration! They made it special for us and my mother greatly enjoyed it! Fish and soup- mine and I loved it! Fish was pan fried not grilled. I payed extra for tofu soup over kimchi soup. And it was so worth it. I found a great go to meal that appears to be low fat and low calories. FYI there are about 1/2 oz of cubes potatoes in the soup. I'm sure you can ask for no potatoes. We got the small dishes with the meal. I've been to one of the other Korean restaurants here in Columbia and this one was decent as far as Korean restaurants go especially in South Carolina. I met a few other Korean soldiers here for dinner and was pleasantly surprised. The service was great the owner and his wife were really accommodating and nice. A+ for service. For dinner I ordered the Bul Naengmyeon. I've had a lot of Naengmyeon this one missed the mustard but made up for it with chili oil, I wished I had added a little more though. The picked radish and cucumbers were nice and perfectly picked not to mention the noodles were chewy just like I like them. The group also ordered a Korean pancake to share which was ok, I would have preferred it to be a little more crispy but overall a good experience and located off the freeway. read more

Hubby and I felt a bit under the weather since we arrived in South Carolina. We thought Korean "jigae" could potentially sooth our throats for the better. Ok, we finalized our plan for lunch. We made there in time for their lunch specials (Tuesdays to Fridays, 11:00 to 2:30). We went for the hot, soupy dishes, dak gae jang (spicy chicken stew) and soon du bu jigae (soft tofu stew). By the way, the soon du bu jigae comes with seafood, but you can request it without these ingredients if you dislike or are allergic to them. For $7.99 per entree, plus six (6) tasty banchans, we had no complaints. The FOH lady was very polite and got us what we needed. The Korean variety show kept me entertained. I saw a few Korean patrons dining there as well. It has been awhile since I ended up on Decker Blvd. for Korean food. For some reason, hubby and I were feeling nostalgic and wanting to explore around this area: a mix of Korean and Latino food scenes. Overall, "Kimchi" was a solid choice. Unbelievably not good, at all. I ordered bulgogi and on the menu it says $17.99; however I was charged $20.99 with no word about a price change. The bulgogi was poor quality meat and had no taste. The price makes no sense for the little amount of food that you get. The "5 sides" is 1-2 pieces of each side squished in a small bowl. With a name like Kimchi-Korean, you would THINK they know how to make Kimchi. They do not. What they called 2 kinds of Kimchi were : cucumbers in a sweet red sauce that had no heat. The other "Kimchi " was fresh green cabbage dressed in the same sweet red sauce. I've never in my life had sweet kimchi, so for me it was disgusting. I like kimchi for it's spice, and that special bit of funk that comes from fermentation and fish sauce. All but one of the sides were also sweet. Yuck!
