Today I was in Welcome visiting some family and we decided to try Kimono. The restaurant was decorated like your typical hibachi place. It was nice but nothing immaculate. We ordered a variety of items on the menu and everything came out delicious! I personally ordered the Funky Roll and Bulgogi. Both were tasty and delicious. The sushi menu was somewhat limited but it had everything you would want from fried to traditional. I found Bulgogi to be cooked well and full of flavor. The servers were very nice and ensured we had everything we needed. Should you be in the area I recommend giving it a try! read more

I love kimonos it's so good reasonable price clean inside friendly staff even have drive through and pickup . Give you a ton of steak in the perfect bite sizes and phenomenal taste I've been probably 20 times in the 2 years total I've lived here and one of the most recomended places me and my buddy's will go to for that chinise Japanese feel. I've only had the sushi once and it was the deep fried because that's the only way I like it and that aswell was phenomenal however that was 4 years ago and I haven't attempted them again because the plates are so goood. read more

I haven't been to Kimono in Welcome in a hot minute, but as I was running an errand nearby and having lunch with a friend, it was time to come back and get some sushi. I got the fire roll and the spicy tuna roll for lunch. I've probably said this before, but Kimono may be the only place around this area to get sushi, and so the customer expectations are not high. Welcome never strikes me as sushi country. I think as a result, the offerings here are very limited and not very exciting. But, that being said, what is offered is decent. Kimono is a nice place, it's clean with great service, and the wasabi will clear your sinuses! Plenty of good food here. read more

I would have never known this place existed if it wasn't for my son in law recommending it. It is in the middle of the metropolis of Welcome, which is between Lexington and Winston-Salem. For a Japanese restaurant in Welcome, it was actually really good. It's not the best Japanese food I have eaten, but for Welcome, it is 5 stars. Service was very attentive. The hibachi filet minion was very good, and it was reasonably priced at $15. The sushi menu is limited but they have the more popular ones. If I every get back to Welcome, I will be sure to stop here. read more

We have eaten at all of the locations, but for the most part use the one in Welcome as it is closest to home. Their menus slightly differ and the Welcome one actually has the smallest and least diverse menu but it's got your staples. Right now, they are offering 20% off your order if you order online which is a great deal! This isn't spectacular sushi, I'm not going to pretend it's the best of the best, it is certainly not the best you can get in the area. But it is consistently GOOD! And they offer some items that are so cheap, like udon noodles for $2. You can seriously stuff yourself and your best friend silly for like $40 here which for sushi, is no joke. Sometimes you want the all out experience- the $34 sashimi deluxe platter with fancy carved carrot roses and the $15 sushi rolls with 87 ingredients that comes with a hand carved bonsai tree on the side. Sometimes you want to sit and watch 90 Day Fiancé after you put the kids to bed and inhale bulk amounts of "good" sushi. Both are valid but different life experiences! Well, this is the latter of the two, but not the lesser, there is room for every level of sushi in my life- except for gas station sushi, just say no. I would rank this as definitely better than grocery store sushi but not on par with say, Hakka Chow which is our favorite in the area. My order: the crab rangoons (THESE are some of the best in the area!) the vegetable tempura (they give you a TON) one of the deep fried rolls (they offer a few, but one deep fried roll is enough, they're heavy) and three of the basic rolls. If you're extra hungry or sharing or need to feed picky small humans, add an order of their udon noodles which are super simple and tasty. They also offer hibachi which we really need to try because everyone says it's great but I am one of those tunnel vision folks when it comes to sushi so we never do. Next time! read more

I thought it was a little weird that there weren't more people when we pulled in at 1 pm in a Saturday but we decided to give it a go anyways. I have heard good and bad things about this place but I wanted to try it out myself. I ordered a steak and shrimp hibachi plate with no mushrooms and no onions. The workers were friendly. When they have it to me the smell made it really hard to not touch until after I got home. I opened the box and realized they didn't leave off the onions but it was fine because they were big enough to pick out. The food tasted pretty good and I felt like they gave you a decent portion for what you pay for. I was not a fan of the shrimp sauce though. I don't know what ingredients are in it but it tasted like they went a little heavy on something. It was very runny and had a almost chemical taste. I know the sesame seed oil can have that taste sometimes but I'm not sure what they used because I didn't ask. I did find out that they sell sushi so I'm pretty excited to go back and try. Hibachi chicken tasted like frozen chicken, which I can live for the most part ... However, when it tastes frozen plus is bland as a monotone professor ... dang. Had higher hopes for the hibachi chicken. Mid at best. Spicy tuna roll was ight. I'd like to give it another go, or their other sushis a try. Tasted like it had been made that morning, but it may have just been how watery it seemed or tasted the way it did if it was frozen. All in all ... quick & easy. Excellent service. Food was mid, but has soooooo much more potential. I'll go back for the better half of the experience. Hopefully my taste buds will have the same experience my limbic cortex next time. read more

I've only been to Kimono a few times.. pretty much your typical Japanese.. this time during my visit I got the Korean Beef Bugolgi and sushi. The Bugolgi was extremely salty.. I've had an actual Bugolgi dish at a Korean restaurant and this, sadly, doesn't imitate at all.. the ginger taste in it was really strong as well, and I like ginger.. Their sushi is not my favorite only because they're made in huge bites. Too big to eat in one bite. Service lacked just a little.. didn't check on us often and the head cashier didn't greet us or seem friendly at all when assisting the other cashier. The restaurant is cute and has unique decor. This location in particular is middle of the road. It's disappointing that they don't have the same menu at every location, but we've been to this one several times during the pandemic because it is close, convenient, and the food is pretty good. They are doing well with precautions, as they have been drive-thru window only since the pandemic began. They offer online ordering and call-in of course. I was preparing to give them 4 stars for the accuracy of online ordering, but ironically enough they did botch our order this most recent time. We ordered 2 tempura appetizers and got 2 tempura rolls instead. We like the veggie tempura appetizer enough that we wanted one for each of us, but the sushi roll version is a joke. Also means we were charged way more than what should have been for tempura rolls. What this location has going for it are convenience and safety of drive-thru window, making things almost contactless, and staff are friendly as well. We like their fried spring rolls, crab rangoons with chili sauce, veggie tempura appetizer (when we actually get it!), and the funky roll sushi - good fried roll with sauce. Their prices are also very cheap, which means we can get some sushi at home for $35 for the two of us. Order online and you can get 20% off with the coupon code. It's for new customers only, but introduce a family member or friend to Kimono and you can get 20% off more than once, if you catch my drift. They also offer hibachi options, but we weren't very impressed at all with it when we tried unfortunately. The carrots were good though. Overall, I would recommend giving them a try if you're in the Lexington/Welcome area and looking for something quick, convenient, and cheap. Just don't expect to have your mind blown. They could do much better if they offered better sushi options (how about some sashimi?), but it seems like they allocate that to their more populated locations near Clemmons/Winston. Based on my last experience, make sure you do check that your order is right before you leave, though. read more

I really like the Country Club location so we decided to give the Welcome one a try. It is much smaller and they have a very limited sushi menu. The hibachi was delicious. We ordered the hibachi for 2 which was a great deal. We got to try four proteins all of which were cooked to perfection. Service was not so good and the sushi was average. If you just want hibatchi then I would say eat here but if you want sushi then go to the other location. read more

I would like to start by saying this, KIMONO is AMAZING!!! My family and I have a tendency to eat here at LEAST every two weeks, and sometimes even every week! We love the sushi menu! It is fairly small, however it is VERY affordable. All rolls come with 8 pieces. My favorites consist of the Crispy Chicken Roll (deep fried roll with chicken in the middle and topped with sweet chili sauce), the Philly Roll (crab, avocado, and cream cheese), and the 007 Roll (shrimp, crab, and avocado). Their sushi is always super fresh and clean tasting! I have NEVER had a bad roll here! I also really like their hibachi style food. They have really good steak! I always get mine grilled medium and it is some of the most tender steak ever! I also really love their shrimp and chicken! They have great scallops as well. The Kimono Special for 2 is a really great deal to try all four of the meats as well as their carrots and rice. I am blown away... The sign say sushi and wings drive through... I expect the worst as this is soooooo odd especially being a bit off the beaten path.. I love when I am proven wrong. The oddity of it brought me in and the food and service made me a fan. Wings fresh, cooked perfect and both buffalo and spicy retrial did not disappoint. This is my go to place for Japanese. It is located in welcome right down the street from North Davison. They have sushi along with Japanese from the grill. It is s smaller place but still good for a group setting if you need. We have had a few birthday parties here and they've been more than accommodating. They have a window that looks into the kitchen where you can see your food prepared. My son always enjoys standing there and watching them. My favorite dish here is the teriyaki chicken. It is always really good. They do just enough sause where you get the flavor nut your food isn't sopping. They also give you a choice of fried or steamed rice. The steamed rice is really light and has a great flavor. Their veggies come with your dish too which are cooked to where they are done but still crisp. All in all I would have to say this a place I would recommend. It is a great facility with a great atmosphere. read more

This is the best inexpensive, non-cook-on-the-table Hibachi restaurant I have eaten @ in NC. The soup is great & their ginger salad dressing is FABULOUS. The hibachi chicken & steak is flash-fried crispy on the outside, and juicy on the inside. The veggies & rice are yummy & plentiful. The service is friendly & fast. Very good for take out hibachi. Our order was prepared quickly and accurately. I ordered the tofu plate and it was what I expected. Our order also contained a chicken and a steak plate. All of the portion sizes were pleasing and the meat was quality and prepared to perfection. When I moved to the welcome area I was very happy when I realized there was a kimono nearby as I had always enjoyed going to their Clemmons location. Can I leave 6 stars?? This is my absolute favorite Japanese restaurant anywhere. The hibachi chicken is great and the vegtables are wonderful. I am equally pleased that you are not forced to get a salad and soup with your meal. I don't want salad with Japanese food and I can't stand the taste of the soup, and besides, the portions are large enough that you don't need anything else. Prices are good for the amount of food. I don't really like the prepare it at the table restaurants, so this one is perfect. I eat here at least once a week. I can also call ahead & pick up at the window if I'm out and about. read more
