I have thought of trying this place for some time but the exterior always deterred me. However, I'm glad we gave them a chance! The inside was much nicer than the strip mall it is located in. I placed a to go order and every employee I encountered inside was so kind. My husband tried a poke bowl (which not a lot of places near us have, so he was pleased), I got hibachi chicken (tasted better than it looked) and also tried some sushi. EDIT: 24 hours later and I had to come back and update this review. I got food poisoning from the rotten spicy mayo that they served me yesterday!!! I got sick within hours of eating takeout from this place, and it was the only thing I had eaten that day. Low quality sushi for such an expensive price. I ordered a rainbow roll with a side of spicy mayo. The sushi itself was disappointing; it was like 80% rice, 20% fish. They charged me 50 cents for the spicy mayo (which was basically inedible, it tasted like straight chemicals), and it wasn't even filled up all the way. I'm not sure how they have such good reviews. I really wanted to like this place a lot, because it is a 3 minute drive from my house (I timed it), but unfortunately our first experience was very disappointing. We decided to stay local and get takeout during the Coronavirus craze, so we decided to give this place a shot. I called my order in at 4:05 for a sashimi deluxe and 3 specialty sushi rolls. Tropical roll sounded interesting on the menu, stating it includes kiwi. I was hesitant for that, but curiosity won in this case. They open at 4 on Saturday, called my order in at 4:05, got told 25-30 minutes. I left the house at 4:30 and walked in at 4:33. Upon entry, the place looks clean. I saw in another review stating about Mexican restaurant decor, but this is no longer the case. It looks pretty inviting inside, aside of some rusty spots in the old drop ceiling. Seats looked comfy, but I was getting takeout. I was greeted right away by the hostess (likely the owner too). My food wasn't ready quite yet, but I paid my almost $70 and sat about 10 more minutes or so to wait. I noted the 95 sanitation rating from Feb 2020. A couple nearby were waiting on their hibachi, which I'm guessing they were having for the first time, as they could not properly pronounce "hibachi." My food came out with a smile and well wishes, and I went home. Now, for the quality of the food. The sushi rolls were fair to midland I would say, which is about what I expected. I've had grocery store and homemade sushi that was on the same level or better than this. That's about what I expected. 2 stars though because the tropical roll, while decent, did not contain the kiwi that the menu claims it should. The Godzilla roll was good but too much seaweed salad for my taste. I'm not big on seaweed salad, but my wife is a fan. The legend roll was a tasty mess that was gigantic and fell apart on me. The "sashimi deluxe" deserves its own paragraph because it was a joke. Thankfully, my daughter only likes salmon sashimi, because she got plenty of it. If I was eating this dish myself, I would've gone back to complain. I think some of the time I spent waiting was the "chef" hoping that the sashimi would defrost some. The fish must have just come out of the freezer at 4 because it was all still frozen blocks in the middle. Had to wait to defrost. No variety either, as it contained several pieces of salmon, tuna, and a few pieces of red snapper. No yellow tail, no white fish, no mackerel. No excitement. And the salmon tasted a bit fishier than I would expect, so not great at all. Probably was frozen for quite some time. I'm not one to nitpick about uniform cuts either, but these pieces were laughable for sashimi. I can't speak on the quality of their hibachi, but the sushi and sashimi was grocery store quality at premium restaurant prices. We paid nearly $70 with tax, and we did not get our money's worth. It's a shame, but I don't think I'll be back. read more

Ordered the spicy tuna.. no. It was tuna with sauce on top. Pure. Laziness. If the "sushi chef" is too lazy to mix the sauces -then make the roll. But no just make a tuna roll and put the sauce on top. Laziness. (I'll include pic). This is a first. I didn't finish. Just wanted to leave. We ordered the spring rolls (sauce is a bit too spicy for my taste but other than that it was good), 2 sushi rolls (the California roll and the big papa) and 2 entrees (steak and steak & chicken combo). It was me, hubby and our 10 and 3 year old. Soup was kind of bland but not horrible. Salad was small but just enough. I got the ginger dressing - great taste. Sushi was made fresh and tasted great. I love sushi :) haha. Entrees were a good size and were fresh, too. We were able to share it all and have leftovers. Friendly waitresses. Cute decor. Not too big. They are closed on Mondays. I have spent more than 5 years in Korea and Japan. I have eaten in 5 Star restaurants and the country kitchens. Don't be superficial about good food. The best meals I have eaten are made in the Mom and Pop Diners and Dives. This is one my and my wife's favorite Japanese Diners for Sushi and Hibachi once a week. We got to know the owners and employees as friends and enjoy a great Filet and Scallops hibachi meal. The steamed gyoza and fried spring rolls are my favorites with a spicy spring roll sauce. Their sushi Dragon Roll rocks. Although I am not a fan of the "raw fish" sushi rolls, I have enjoyed the fresh samples and that my wife shares with me... Went there today with my sister, she ordered the hibachi shrimp and chicken with a side of carrots. When we went to pay her bill was $30 which didn't make sense. We asked why so much was discovered they had charged her for a plate and her vegetables were all charged as sides. The waitress and the soon to be owner both were very rude. We stop by here once a week and every time they're out of sushi rice. It's the only sushi place on our way home from work. So, we asked why not make more? Apparently that was enough to upset the hostess who is also the daughter of the owners so when we picked up our food the mother decides she wants to be mama bear and scream at me about how her daughter was crying from a simple question. First off, I didn't ask. My partner did and I told her to stop being aggressive towards me and talk to my partner. She then proceeded to tell us how tired her husband who is the sushi chef was from a boil on his shoulder and that her daughter is exhausted from driving a hour to work everyday. Look, I get we're all human and we all have stress and things going on but, professionally that's not something that works for me as an excuse for yelling at a customer. I don't care who you are or really want to hear how tough your life is. That's your business...not mine. You own a business (like I do) and you should be professional. We ordered the Hwy 64 and Rainbow rolls. They were yummy but nothing over the top. We were served complimentary soup while we waited for our rolls. So I saw this restaurant on Yelp was closest to my destination and I went, regardless of the ratings. I ordered a cooked roll, (I forgot the name- I think it had dragon in it) and it was crazy good!!! The avocado and cream cheese in the roll complimented each other so well along with the scallops and crab meat. It was so tasty that I wanted more than just eight rolls. The restaurant itself is a bit on the dirty side, especially the Spanish tiles that were left from the previous Mexican restaurant that occupied this space. We have given this establishment several tries and while parts of it are good others need work. The vegetables tend to be overcooked or very greasy. The salad dressing is AMAZING and the sauces are good. We have had one sushi roll here and it was very good. The owner is extremely nice and I wish the food was just a little better but I doubt we will return due to the overall quality and taste of the hibachi dishes we have had and the soup.
