Food was just so-so. We both got hibachi steak with rice, onions and zucchini. The fried rice was ok but the steamed rice was tough. The meat has no seasoning and was bland unless you use a sauce. The amount of food we got for $20 a plate was not worth it. We each drank water and when the bill came we were surprised to see the total was $50. When reviewing the bill my husband noticed a tip of $8 was already added!!? What?! We are typically generous tippers but this left a bad taste. Worst sushi I've ever had and that's including gas station sushi and frozen supermarket sushi. I paid $20 for 3 "rolls" worth of soggy, warm rice and eel sauce. Every bite was disappointing. There were TINY amounts of the fish ingredient in each roll and one roll was mostly iceberg lettuce. Every single roll was drowning in eel sauce. The only way to explain these glowing reviews is a lot of people who have either terrible taste or have never had GOOD sushi or both. Ordered a ginger dressing (2 oz for $1.25!!!!) and had to ask for it at pickup as it was not in the bag. That and the Miso soup were salty and lacked any other flavor. What I got myself for a treat ended as a punishment. PLEASE don't bother and go to almost any other place for sushi. I recommend Sushi Republic or Hibachi Cafe, both in Greensboro. read more

I drove to this restaurant and ordered sashimi and avocado salad. They were quite busy with full tables and pick up orders. I shopped next door and returned to get my food. No problems, no stress. Pics show food as it was contained. I wasn't sure if I would eat it all at one sitting. (I usually show it displayed on a way that I like to present it in an appetizing/appealing way. I like to do this with all of the meals that I make special for Family and sometimes for myself.) Food was awesome and so great that I should have displayed it. We had no reservation on a Friday and were immediately seated. We started with Shumai, which is fried shrimp dumplings and it was served with a sweet and savory thin sauce. The dumplings were hot and seasoned well. The sauce added a little zing. For our entrées we ordered hibachi steak, chicken, and shrimp. It comes with a soup or salad, fried rice, and hibachi onions and zucchini. The soup was warm and delightful, but would be great with more onions and scallions. The meat was cooked as ordered (medium rare on the steak). Everything tasted similar to what you'd expect from a hibachi restaurant. Nothing extraordinary and nothing terrible. The meal was served quickly, so it's a great stop if you don't have reservations somewhere else. The staff was nice and attentive although they were busy. We will surely return. read more

First time dining in here and tried their chicken broth ramen. They provide an additional bowl if sharing the ramen- which i usually do because of the quantity. The ramen comes with a side of chili oil and the toppings are the typical egg, corn, bean sprouts. It wasn't as flavorful as i would liked it to be but i enjoyed it regardless. First off this place can get busy!! But we somehow got sat pretty quickly. And as they got less busy, it felt less crowded in there and could hear the music playing. We started off with Yakitori, which is chicken with teriyaki. And it was mouthwatering! What stood out the most, out of everything we ordered, was the sushi. My little one and I love sushi. And this restaurant has place in my heart now hahaha. My little one devoured almost 5 rolls out of 6! She really surprised me! And thankfully, mine were spicy, otherwise, she would of ate mine, too. Stopped in after/before movies on a Friday at 5:00. Service was speedy and the sushi was fantastic! My daughter got the Sashimi Regular, and I got some Nigiri sushi - salmon and yellowtail. I went to Yamato this evening and made a decision to never return. A patron at a neighboring table was served the wrong type of rice on their plate. When the plate was delivered, the server was called over. They took the plate back to the kitchen. A staff member scraped the rice from the plate back into the rice cooker to be mixed into the stored rice. Food that had left the kitchen was put back into the serving container to be served to someone else and then the correct rice type was put on the plate. A serving of food that has left the kitchen and been served should never be mixed back into food to be served to others. Disgusting. read more

Got some hibachi to go. I ordered the Chicken and Shrimp and asked for all veggie instead of the rice. I was shocked at the quantity of zucchini and onions when I opened the box. They definitely didn't skimp on me. My husband did the normal order and the amount of rice he got was already quite large, with about a regular amount of vegetables. The flavor was a little lacking but alright. Overall, I felt their food was a bit on the expensive side compared to other Japanese options in the area, but they do give you a lot ton of food. read more

I'm addicted to this place!!! I've only ordered carry out, but they put care into each meal. Everything is always prepared to perfection. The sushi is... insanely good. The lobster is amazing. My go to is the steak hibachi dinner with white sauce and a crunchy roll. It's the most comforting and filling meal and makes wonderful leftovers. Whenever I'm having a rough week, I like to go to Yamato and drown my sorrows in the most delicious sushi in this area; it always brightens my day. A few years ago, I came here from California, which has great sushi, and this place is my favourite sushi place. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They can get really busy, but they always accommodate us. I usually get the off-menu specials, the magic roll, or the hibachi. I am not a fan of steak, but it seems like people seem to enjoy that. I waited 15 minutes to be sat (at the bar even) because I was a party of one and they didn't want to waste a full table on me. There were only two tables that were seated. There's no reason I should've wait that long. Once I'm seated, I had to wait an additional 10 minutes for my drink order to be taken. I went ahead and gave my food order, because who knows how long it would've taken to get that in. The food was delivered within a reasonable time frame. One thing that really stood out to me is the fact they brought my check when I was barely halfway through my meal. Message received. I went ahead and put my card down and had to wait 25 minutes for my check to be taken. Why rush me when you won't even rush your selves? I probably (hopefully) won't be back. I went here this week for lunch one day. I was not impressed to say the least. I ordered the hibachi chicken. The chicken was very bland and lacking flavor. The pieces of chicken were large and could have used more attention from a knife. The vegetables were also lacking flavor. The only thing I did enjoy was the rice. Haven't been to Yamato in a very long time. Finally decided to order out from them today. Went during lunch time so that the entrees would be a little cheaper. I made some special requests and no mistakes were made. My order was perfect! The sushi was excellent! It's pricey but my stomach can't handle most of the other restaurants in the area that serve hibachi (too greasy). The salad is very plain but restaurants are having to do what they have to get by so I'm overlooking that. This place used to always be packed and today, not a single person in their dining room . I got chicken teriyaki with carrots subbed for the onion, the salad that comes with the meal, and the Crazy Tuna roll with soy wrapper, no masago, added eel sauce. After about a one year break, I've rediscovered Yamato and it's my new favorite hibachi restaurant in the Triad. I had been frequenting other "quick" hibachi restaurants and their food quality has dropped significantly in the last year. Yamato's quality appears to have improved. The hibachi is done well, but what stands out for me are the dressings and sauces. White sauce is an abomination and it seems most hibachi restaurants default to it in preference to traditional sauces. Yamato's mustard and ginger are great, the hot sauce needs to be a little thicker to be perfect (I'm used to the thicker hot sauce like at the old Kyoto/Arigato). The ginger salad dressing is spot-on and a huge selling point. The mushroom soup is good (could have a little more flavor), and the salad, while basic, is consistently cold, fresh and crisp. I can't speak for the sushi, as I don't eat sushi. The staff has been friendly, and I enjoy the atmosphere. I'm not sure if there's new ownership, but I have not experienced any odd comments or vibes if I arrive near closing. Like another reviewer, I also experienced that issue in years past and it was disconcerting. I'll keep visiting and see if I get a dud experience, but I'm impressed as of this review. read more

Sushi was not good at all. Warm, for what should have been fresh cold fish...nasty altlantic salmon...gross. WAY overcooked the tempura to the point where it was not edible. There was too much batter as well. Veggies edible and done good but not perfect. Service..ehh...had to ask her to bring napkins, bring a plate, clear the table, and she was not very friendly. If you're looking for good sushi in the area please try Yamatos. They have some of the most delicious sushi rolls! I totally recommend the volcano roll for anyone who likes sushi and wants to switch it up. If you're not a sushi fanatic, their hibachi is also amazing. Service here is spectacular, and the servers tend to remember you. Even on a busy day, waiting isn't too bad when the servers are so kind. I have eaten a lot of subpar food at restaurants since the pandemic. Unfortunately, I want good quality food that tastes good and I am pretty tired of putting up with bland, dry food. This place gets a solid one star. The salad consisted of chopped Lettuce and a takeout cup of ginger dressing. The hibachi chicken was dry sawdust, the hard over cooked rice was just that, and the vegetables were bland, no seasoning. I would never had guessed this was one of my go tos pre-pandemic. In the bright side they do practice safety and the place is clean. Staff are masks, wear gloves and work behind plexiglass. Not coming back anytime soon. My boyfriend and I have been trying out sushi restaurants in the area, and this is one of the best we've tried. The menu has a great selection of specialty rolls as well as the classics. The presentation of the sushi was amazing and it tasted as good as it looked. The staff was very kind and the atmosphere was relaxed and enjoyable. As an appetizer i got just a simple california roll, it was ok I've had way better and avocado was bit too mushy. For entree i ordered a teriyaki shrimp and chicken hibachi. This came with soup or salad my choice was a mushroom soup which this literally tasted just like a chicken broth that's it. Once i got my plate the rice wasnt the best but it wasn't bad either, the veggies very bland, and the shrimp and chicken were actually really good (good thing i got it with teriyaki lol) ther others something different such as tofu and veggies, salmon & tuna hand rolls and another regular hibachi.
