The first thing I want to point out is they have vents that are covered in mold and look disgusting - which makes me question the rest of the cleanliness of the restaurant. The food is way over priced for what it is. Why wasn't kids' meals the same portion as the adults and the same price when we specifically ordered from the kids' part of the menu for them? If I could leave a lower rating I would. I went with a friend and he ordered the heart attack, salmon sashimi, yellow tail sashimi, and spicy tuna roll. I ordered the crunchy roll, elk roll, and octopus sashimi. I ate my crunchy roll and it all fell apart which ok is normal it was big, just not what I wanted. My octopus sashimi was still frozen and I forced it down (which later I would regret) The ell roll was the best one and stuck together. If they were all like that it would have been different. My friend was eating his heart attack and he enjoyed them the most but it's basically fried jalapeños and cheese. He ate salmon sashimi and didn't eat it all because the salmon was slimy like it had started going bad, he ate one yellow tail sashimi and it was the same way... the worst part is when he ate 3 pieces off the spicy tuna roll. He stoped and asked me to smell it. It smelled so bad like the meat had gone bad and they were serving it. He didn't eat the rest and looked sick. The waitress never filled up our drinks and when we got the check my friend told the waitress the spicy tuna roll was bad. She asked how was it bad. He said it was bad and tasted awful. The food was okay. There were no complaints on it. My family enjoyed the lunch menu. It was probably the better restaurant in town. It's definitely not the best sushi and food we've ever had but hey, we are coming from California where there is a lot of places to eat at. This might well be the best sushi place for the locals in the area. I personally liked the lunch sushi bento box and my family seemed to like their orders too. I know my husband liked his yakisoba. The customer service was pretty good. The waitresses kept coming to check on us to ensure we were comfortable and enjoying our foods. They were very attentive and brought things fairly quickly. There was ample seating and no wait. Only thing, restaurant does not follow the CDC recommended guidelines on masks. None of the employees were wearing them and they did not require customers to wear them either when they walked in even though they had a sign posted on their door requiring masks. This is the dirtiest restaurant I ever went to. My shoes were sticking on to the floor, and I felt like I had to wash my hands immediately after touching the door. I'm a very loyal customer to this place and every other experience was great but when I went in today it was unacceptable service, food was cold, my brother didn't get his plate of food and we didn't get one of the appetizers we ordered. Our waitress didn't check on us once and went off to a different table on the other side of the restaurant. After we made a complaint they didn't try to make our food/ remake it and they just took it off the ticket. My brother didn't even get to eat. read more

It has been years since I have had hibachi at a Japanese restaurant as I usually do sushi and fried rice. So maybe I'm not the best judge of hibachi, but it was great. First, the waitress we had was super nice, super responsive, and we never sat long without her checking on all of us. For the food, we had a couple of rolls to try out, and my wife and I both felt the taste was great, but the quality of the roll was not good. They fell apart as we tried to pick them up. Not fun using forks as a shovel to keep from fully coming apart. The hibachi was great, and honestly the fried rice was tasty, BUT it was left in one spot a bit too long and there were several hard grains of rice throughout. I'm going to be really honest. We have came maybe 2 times and every time the food is really good but I can't help but notice this place isn't very clean. First off, the door/windows when you come in, are filthy. I didn't even want to touch the door. The floors are gross. Even the tables are sticky. Yes the service is quite fast but I can't help but warn others that this place isn't clean. The bathrooms are bad too. Not to mention, they have the habachi tables and those look pretty filthy. I want to love this place but it's just not clean & it's upsetting because the food is good. This will probably be the last time we eat there. read more

I'm from Hawaii. So...I'm a snob when it comes to fresh fish, poke, sashimi. For $18.95 I'm expecting a good-sized bowl of chirashi. First of all, the fish you get served is "chef's choice" never heard of that in all my travels to the other states and Japan. It came on a plate with a small scoop of rice, with 5 very, very thin slices of assorted fish and shrimp. So thin I could read my phone behind it. The "ahi" was not fresh. Previously frozen as were the rest of them. All the pieces of fish were so watery and tough! It came with a watery miso soup (it was flavorful though) and a good salad, if you don't like spicy, don't eat it. Sooo disappointed as a local told me this was the best sushi restaurant in Lawton. I placed a to-go order for Hibachi Chicken, chicken fried rice, egg rolls and California Rolls. Hibachi Chicken- There was no rice, the chicken was way over cooked and zero flavor, the vegetables were okay but had an odd flavor that was not to my liking, soup was ehhh, salad was good. The surprise was this small serving of noodles that came in the box. California Roll - okay but no soy sauce provided. Chicken Fried Rice - See pictures - It is rice, with a few pieces of chicken and a few dots of yellow, that I am assuming is egg, no vegetables. It comes in a container 2/3 the size of a regular square to-go container. Cost is $8.95. Will say it does come with small side of soup and salad. Very disappointed!!! Chicken over cooked, can barely tell rice was fried, very little flavor. Just as well it was less of a serving than other restaurants as my friend threw in trash. Egg Rolls were edible. At least came with some of the yummy sauce. I called about missing rice and to ask about fried rice. Was told sorry about rice, training someone new and it got missed. Asked if I wanted to come and get it. I said no, just reimburse me. Told they could not reimburse me as their steamed rice is free. So you can keep that in mind. Order all the steamed rice you want, it is free. I asked if that was the case then could they bring it to me. The lady did offer to do so, which was nice. However, I did not feel right having her drive 5 miles to where I was for a serving of rice, especially since my meal would be cold by then. As for the fried rice, I was told that the fried rice is plain like that. I have never seen an order of fried rice that did not have at least peas, carrots and onions in it. Many times it has corn too. Note this is the 2nd time, I have tried this place. First time was at lunch. Ordered hibachi to go. When I got my meal I had just the hibachi meal, no soup, no salad. Called and was told I had to request them for to-go orders. Nothing on menu says that, so how would I know? Paid the same price as if I ate there. Went to have Valentines Dinner with my wife tonight. We have been here a few times and it's hit or miss how well the hibachi chef does but never had issues. To begin the night, the lady at the front attempted to place us (family of 4) in front of a wooden pole at a hibachi grill. Then when we told her no she put us at an empty grill. We have no issue waiting a little longer for another family to come in. Once we order the hibachi chef comes out and starts his show, and his spatula flies out of his hand and almost hits me. He is quick to apologize and continue on. Not a huge deal, but as we sit and watch his show is literally him cooking food in front of us...it is what it is, the kids still enjoyed the meal and watching him cook. Then we get our bill...fully expecting $100 bill, it comes out $128 so I start adding stuff up and it didn't add to that amount...then I notice an 18% gratuity added to the bill. We noticed in the menu that it is automatically added to a table of 6 or more. So I ask the waitress why and she then tells me because it's Valentine's Day...well that makes absolutely no since to force an 18% gratuity upon a table less than 6 just because it's Valentine's Day. I would have tipped around the 10-12% range because the show wasn't great but now that they have forced the 18% amongst all customers on Valentine's Day they have lost my business. I used to love this place. After today, I'm pretty disappointed. The only reason there are even 2 stars is because the service was good. The food, on the other hand, was horribly sad. Let's start with the appetizer. The crab wontons were just oil. Seriously, I bit into it and it squirted lukewarm oil. Ugh. No worries, they can have an off day on the fried food, right? No, apparently they are just completely off. My roll came, the dreamer roll. Listen, I've has this rolls probably a dozen times in the past. I have noticed the rolls have been getting smaller, but today? Holy cow. I can't believe this tiny roll cost me 9 bucks. The inside had a bit of rice and a bit of crab. Just a bit since this roll is just tiny. The stuff on top almost made it the size of a normal roll when grabbed with chopsticks. This used to be a fantastic roll: this time, it didn't even had flavor. So, I had what, a kids roll? So sad. I will not be back. I've overlooked the shrinking rolls, but this was just too much. I hate seeing cleaning equipment off to side of wall in view of dining tables. Woman cleaning tables had a soiled shirt on and helping with cleaning tables while we were still seated. Very off putting. Also asked for more tempura dipping sauce and told I could not get more or pay for more than the one I got with the tempura shrimp and vegetables. Really? I paid 100 for food and they couldn't give me a tablespoon or 2 of sauce? There is potential there. But the dining experience was not up to par with the price. First impressions matter, especially when one is making a splashy entrance. Unfortunately for Kimono Steak and Sushi Grill, their first impression with the local foodie community was a bumpy one. Construction delays prevented them from opening on their announced date, and they were so busy fixing the issues that they forgot to mention it on any social media outlets. Oops! Not a surprise then that they opened their doors quietly, allowing word of mouth to spread. I was able to visit on their second day open, and almost every seat was empty, but I know that will change soon. Honestly, the empty space is good for now, as there were still a few workers on ladders this afternoon. The space is large, and well spaced. Eight grills fill the center of the room, with each two-grill space seating 18 customers at a time. Not overly crowded, and only two people have a far view of the grill. Other seating includes 6 tables for 4, and a row of seats at the sushi bar. There are also seats at a separate bar, which has place settings, but might be an actual bar once the paperwork is filed. Today I had the chicken katsu bento box. Standard stuff, and done well enough. Chicken soup, two gyoza, salad, half California roll, rice, and protein. I did not specify steamed rice, and now know that fried rice is the default. They were kind enough to bring me a side of their spicy sauce (sriracha) to use with my chicken. All of the food was well done. It was good to have chicken soup as a starter, the salad was not drenched in sauce, and the roll was messy, but with a good balance of ingredients. The rice was a bit too fried for my taste, but had good flavor. I'll just be sure to specify steamed next time. It has been 9 long months since I had my last piece of chicken katsu, so I probably should not be trusted to review. It was a generous piece, juicy and not greasy. Now I just have to convince them to serve it with curry on the side! As I finished I had a chance to quickly meet the owner and welcome him as a new restaurant in the area. He seemed very open, so I did suggest curry (and ahi poke!) as a menu addition. I look forward to returning with friends to try the hibachi offerings. My only true criticism for this restaurant is price. This is the third sushi/hibachi restaurant in Lawton, and the most expensive by far. Each visit has cost me nearly twice what a similar meal would cost me across town, without being double the quality. This will be an issue in a modest town like Lawton, and I hope that Kimono I can convince people that it is the "upscale" hibachi in town. read more

Sushi and hibachi is one of my families favorite things to eat. My 10 year old loves sushi and would eat it everyday if she could. First time I went it was the day after they opened and not many customers we had two bento boxes and a sushi salad. We topped it off with a ahi tower as well. The best was the ahi tower. The presentation was beautiful before they mixed it all together. The rest was OK nothing I would keep going back for. My husband had the sashimi bento for $18 it seemed very expensive it was suppose to come with rice but didn't also they brought us soup and salad at the beginning and then with the bento box he got another salad. The rest was OK. For 3 people our price for lunch was $75 and we had no alcohol. The very next day is our eat out night for the week and my daughter won the coin toss so she got to pick where we went as always she wanted sushi and wanted to try this place. So for 4 people we had a decent meal. I had the shrimp tempura udon. There wasn't anything fancy to it. taste exactly like the udon I get at the commissary. You get two pieces of shrimp tempura. Now the part that got me is I went to Samurai this week for lunch and ordered the same thing shrimp tempura udon I got udon with fresh carrots and cabbage also a side plate of veggie and shrimp tempura. For me Samurai put 100 times more effort in there food. For the price and value I will definitely choose Samurai over kimonos. Now on to the sushi the sushi delicious but again I will not go back for it because of price. I can get the same thing at Samurai at half the cost. The atmosphere is nice and who doesn't like a new restaurant! The staff needs time to work on getting their stuff together which I understand the wait staff needs a lot more training on food and what comes with what. The owner is very nice and I had the pleasure in talking to him both times I went. I have not tried the hibachi but I'm pretty sure we will go back to try it. I'm actually looking forward to trying it. The second time I went I saw a chef that seemed upbeat and interactive with a lot of show to offer. His name is Jae and I will be asking for him. All in all good place to eat but I don't see myself coming very often because of price. Don't get me wrong I will happily spend money on a expensive dinner when its well worth it. This place is awesome! I was skeptical at first, just because Lawton restaurants can be a hit or miss and this one just looked too good to be true but we decided to try it out anyways. We were Glad that we did! They have an awesome selection of sushi and Japanese food. The hibachi wasn't overly priced ($12 for the hibachi chicken with fried rice, noodles, vegetables, shrimp appetizer, salad, and soup!) The Chef and wait staff was very attentive to our needs. We came in on a Saturday night and the place was packed!!! But we didn't have to wait for anything! The chef was very entertaining! They also have a nice selection of Japanese desserts! Tempura icecream, which is fried icecream, was delish and $7! My husband had the mochi and omgggg how I have missed mochi now that we don't live in LA! You can't even find that out here! They give you 8 pieces, which is more then enough, for $7! Kids also have a blast! Kids chicken hibachi was almost the size of a adult hibachi and it included soup and salad and fried rice. All for $7.95! Pretty sweet deal! My kid was full after the fried rice! I can honestly say that I'm glad Lawton is starting to get newer modern restaurants. I got a to-go order from here today and was looking forward to it when I got home, as I live in Elgin and have to drive a little ways. When I got home I noticed that my order was wrong, I ordered a crunchy roll and got a crunch storm roll, as the toppings were just thrown around in the box. Not to mention the avocado on my alaska roll was almost all brown. I got gyoza and it was burnt, as well. While eating inside I've always had a good experience. This place has always been one of my go to places. I love the food, from the Miso Soup to the Fire Dragon Roll. If anyone has not had the experience of a place for Hibachi, I would suggest this over Kobe, just for the lighting, you can see the floors, and see there are no bugs, or trash on them. I enjoy this place, as it is one of the places where you can relax, and enjoy a meal. I have taken business colleagues, family members and friends here, because of the quality of the food, the service and overall the experience. I have had one issue where the person doing the cooking seemed too interested in talking and not cooking the entire order, once we got turbo slowed down, he cooked my chicken breast, and the night overall was good. If I can say, try the Fire Dragon Roll, it is like no other, they bring it to you wrapped in foil, and then light the plate on fire, roll open the foil to expose a delightful tasting roll. It was a long while since my family ate here so we decided on enjoying some food from the grill. We decided on the meal for 2 with steak, lobster, and shrimp (our usual) and 10 oz filet steak. We asked and stated several times that we wanted our steak medium rare and medium for the 10 oz. Well, we might as not had said anything. All our steaks were cooked well done. We used to get a lobster each but it looked like 1 lobster was cut into 2 halves and less shrimp. The cook kept cooking them on the grill well past done...needless to say were very tough and chewy. We used to like their fried rice and noodles...not anymore. Burnt and crispy fried rice was hardly eaten from our plates while i ask myself... why did he chop the noodles up into short pieces? Also, everything was salted to the extreme. The so-call entertainment part of the grill was ... how do i say it... could have been left out so that he could focus more on the food. Dropping utensils, constantly lighting squirted oil where ever on fire, and finger touches along with having to repeat him saying "i love you" over and over...not my idea of entertainment.
