Nice hotel. It was the historic headquarters of the B&O railroad. The rooms are a bit smaller than other hotels but sizable enough. Bed was very comfortable. Only complaint was TV channels mostly didn't work. Staff is friendly but they were a bit late getting our room ready. Food at restaurant was good although they booked up first night due to Benson Boone concert. They have complimentary wine happy hours on weekdays in lobby. The lobny which is interestingly upstairs whereas the foyer downstairs appears a bit more grand. read more

This hotel is magnificent! Hubby is into all things trains, so he booked one night here during a baseball road trip. Would have stayed longer had we had more time. Walk in and be amazed at the grandeur of old railroad train history ( and money!) The photos speak for themselves; our upgraded suite was large and comfortable, the staff friendly and helpful ( thank you Daniel!) Had breakfast the following morning. Service was good, friendly but please update the menu! Don't offer items that you cannot serve: can't have endless bloody Mary's. If you don't have bloody Mary mix to make just one.! Don't offer challah French toast and serve it on standard toast...some other issues like that, but our food was good, not great. I stayed at Kimpton Hotel Monaco the night of my wedding. We had a room block with the hotel and Jennifer was great to work with from start to finish. The hotel is newly renovated and very clean. Beds are super comfy. We ate breakfast at the restaurant and it was really good. There are a few cons, not enough to deter me from staying here again, but worth sharing. -There is no self park option through this hotel, only valet which is very expensive ($55/night). We received a small discount for having a room block. -The king suites aren't that much larger than a standard two bedroom hotel room so unless you're specifically looking for a living area space, I'd skip the suite. -If you're interested in taking photos at this hotel, you have to pay an hourly fee unless you have secure a certain amount of hotel rooms via a hotel block. Overall we enjoyed our stay! Will definitely to at least to try out the dinner menu of the restaurant. read more

We stayed here for a night while attending an event nearby and we really enjoyed our stay. I read the reviews after staying and did not have the similar experience many seem to have had. I thought the hotel was clean, beautifully decorated, and the staff we interacted with were all friendly and helpful. Our room was a little on the small side and a bit dated, but it fit the old, historic post office near the White House vibe. With the bustle of rush hour traffic, the staff greeted us warmly and the parking valet saved us the hassle of finding parking for the next couple of days. The associates at the check in desk greeted us with a snack and a choice of red or white wine. Our room keys didn't work on the elevator at first but that was quickly remedied. The hotel staff were awesome! They went the extra mile to make sure our stay was comfortable during our event weekend. Our meeting ballroom was comfortable for our meetings and fellowships. The breakfast with omelette station was enjoyed by everyone! Gym area is large enough for about 30 people max to exercise. Do not stay here. I checked in and went up to my room to have it be 82° in the room in the morning. I let them know. I came back to my room at 10pm and it is still 82°. They have no other available rooms with working AC in the summer. They have no offers of accommodations to assist. They knew they didn't have working AC in multiple rooms and made no efforts to assist their guests like providing fans for the rooms without working AC. The workers at the front desk gave very helpful frowny faces though hearing that the AC didn't work. That's the extent of their helpfulness and about what you can expect if you stay here read more

Review: Kimpton Hotel, Baltimore We stayed in both a king room and a suite -- both were great, though the suite was definitely our favorite (wish it had a bathtub, though). Our stay got off to a rough start because the first room we were given was really dirty -- mismatched yellow towels, random hairs in the bed (which we found while checking for pests), and lots of dusty spots that should have been cleaned more thoroughly. Thankfully, the staff was responsive and moved us to a different room, which was much better. Once settled, we appreciated the comfortable setup and dog-friendly vibe inside the hotel. It's a sensible place for traveling with pets -- inside feels safe and calm -- but outside can feel a little dodgy, especially at night. The in-room amenities and coffee/tea setup were just okay, and we didn't get to try the evening wine reception. The lobby is located on the 2nd floor -- you can take the elevator or a set of stunning (but steep and possibly slippery) marble stairs. I recommend the elevator. Security is visible, which was reassuring -- one guard even had to step in when someone bothered us outside. Walking dogs in the area isn't ideal, and the second-floor lobby setup also makes deliveries a little awkward, so it helps to coordinate with the front desk and drivers. Valet parking is a bit tight with limited space out front, but overall, the hotel is very convenient if you're heading to events at the downtown arena. read more

The marlin the decor everything about it is beautiful. Customer service was great. The rooms was clean had big beautiful windows I cannot complain. The price for the room was decent. I paid close to 1500.00 for the 3 day stay with not even the basic amenities. I had wrapped PLASTIC cups to drink out of. But what was I suppose to drink from these cups because there was NO bottled waters in my room and no mini bar. Stopped into restaurant at the Monaco for a quick bite before the theater. Took 10 minutes after seating for a waiter to show up. Ordered salad, Manhattan and husband ordered salmon. Salad came first, Salmon took 30 minutes. Finished my salad, nursed my drink while husband ate. They apologized for the delay and the salmon was good. Offered free dessert, we declined. Was shocked when we got the bill and the Manhattan was upcharged for premium liquor. Won't go back. Service too awful and didn't like the upcharge. Little quirks that come with an historic building like our hotel room door was incredibly hard to open and shut and the bathroom door was one of those sliding barn doors (lacking a little privacy). but truly lovely rooms and staff. read more

This is truly one of the most beautiful Beaux-Arts buildings in America -- so when the opportunity came up to stay here it was a no-brainer. The goods: - very very very cool historic charm, being the former, B&O Railroad offices - spacious rooms The bads - beyond, "dated styling": carpet was worn all the way through to the next layer in places - TV interface is a nuisance (recommend bringing your Apple TV from home!) Ultimately the wear-and-tear was so significant that it brought the worry that there might be other issues of neglect or cleanliness -- fortunately I could find no true issues. Could be a really nice property in the hands of the right owners. Might still be OK to stay for most. read more

The bathroom doors aren't real doors that seal, it's a sliding closet door with no sound protection. You can also see out of the bathroom through the space.. no privacy. This is a beautifully styled hotel! The 1st floor/ground floor is very grand and has a few sitting areas and a restaurant. The lobby is on the 2nd floor, which is accessible via the large opulent staircase or the guest elevators. The 3rd floor has the banquet halls. We lucked out and got a room on the 12th floor near the elevators. The room was spacious with plenty of lighting. However, there was only one small trash can for the entire room, and it was located in the bathroom. overall the room seemed kinda bare, but it did contain a workstation desk, an extra sitting chair, and wall to ceiling mirror. Oh, and the air conditioner stopped working the next morning, but overall the room was clean and the bedding was surprisingly comfortable. Overall, the hotel has a very grand fabulous boutique-look and the venue is spacious. Valet parking is also readily available out front, but you'll likely have to go inside to get the attendant's attention. I like the option to either charge the valet parking to your room, or pay at the attendant station-which is what I opted to do. Check-in and check-out were seamless and courtesy, and the housekeepers, the doormen, and the car attendants were all very amiable and professional. Pro tip: you have to quickly swipe your room key in and out of the slot to work the elevators. Its a bit tricky, but you'll see what I mean! read more

I can't believe this is a Kimpton hotel. I stayed in the Kimpton Paloma in Philadelphia which was luxurious, pampering, a pleasure. Then I came here. There is no one who will greet you at your car curbside. There is no one to help you with your bags. There is no actual front desk or amenities such as a bottle of water. There is a guy sitting at a folding table(?) who checks you in and tells you nothing and helps not one bit. Hated my room which sounded as loud as a truck from the fan. I packed up because I was not going to sleep there. Tony moved me to another room. And another century it seems. Dumpy old room initially moved to a renovated room. That lacked some towels and one of the shower bottles of body wash. Why do I have to tell management that a room is terrible when I paid a premium price, or why is it not fully furnished? It is weird place, frankly. Skeleton non-visible staff and I was wondering if there were more than a few guests staying there.... No water bottle offered on arrival. Nothing really. I would never stay here again. It's like a bad Holiday Inn. (Part of their chain.) read more

Not sure if we caught the hotel on an off weekend - we were a little disappointed. Not the typical top-notch Kimpton Hotel experience we are accustomed to. The room did not have bathrobes (as was represented on-line); the body wash, shampoo and conditioner dispensers were empty or very low. When we reported to the front desk, a maintenance man came up and spent about 20 minutes but whatever he did, the dispensers were still empty. The elevators weren't working so we had to use the service elevator. The night staff seemed frazzled maybe due to the disarray of the hotel. This was a Sunday evening. We were checked into an ADA room (not my preference nor was it needed). I've stayed at other Kimpton Hotels and have always enjoyed them, so I was really looking forward to our stay here. The downstairs is a shared space entrance not controlled by the hotel so as you enter the hotel anyone can be in there and it is the only way to get to the elevator to get to check in on the second floor. No, absolutely no. First thing is valet their valet service is definitely 0 stars and that is being very gracious. Unlike what you'd expect, the entrance level and lobby gives a VERY ditched character. The service elevator is easily mistaken for an operational elevator and has a huge divet in the floor it's a tragedy waiting to happen a sight from a horror movie too. Now the worst parts- the lotion in my room had been urinated in. The countertop amenities consisted of bar soap (poorly packaged) and a single use size body lotion. I truly believe someone filled the lotion container with urine it was unusually watery and wreaked of urine. I discussed this to manager "yumar"by phone who denied everything but didn't acknowledge that it's best to provide toiletries with safety seals or even offer an apology. Unconcerned. None of the toiletries had safety seals. I spoke with another manager who seemed to attend to but was also off putting by not introducing himself until i asked his name - and he stated his name was Rodney- much later in the day it was uncovered that he was the general manager. I found the absence of his self identification concerningly unprofessional. While at the hotel the operator tried to inform the housekeeping manager but he avoided the conversation completely. Stay away from purchasing the subpar refreshments ie soup salad sandwich inside the lobby soda machine, room service ends at 10pm, if you arrive after Baltimore's restaurant scene closes .. wait until breakfast. Finally, after being terribly derailed by the lotion incident I forgot my home key. I was told they didn't have it but shortly they called to report they received the key in lost and found. So now with very low expectations and zero consideration related to this manage my team I will have new home keys made in hopes to prevent ever revisiting Kimpton Hotel Monaco Baltimore. read more

STAY AWAY FROM THIS HOTEL! I would give it a MINUS 5 stars if I could. This is NOT your typical Kimpton Hotel, in fact it is more like a no-star hotel you'd find along the highway. We were not greeted by anyone... checked into the hotel by a man who we found out later was the GM.. yikes! We were informed that there was no working dryer in the laundry room, and no service was offered to take clothes to a dry cleaners or laundry so instead of touring the first day, we spent it looking for laundry nearby and doing clothes... swell. In fact, after being there 4 days there still was not a working dryer! They really care..... NOT! The GM or whomever assigns the room, never even checked my profile to see what my requests were (e.g., high floor room, if possible), and when I requested that they change our room if possible (others checking in behind me where given high floor rooms), I was told by the GM that I hadn't requested it!! I told him to check my profile and guess what? It was listed there..... he did change our room, but what a pain... The room: 1) The refrigerator in our room was not even plugged in! 2) The safe had never been furnished with a battery so it didn't work and took over an hour, and 4 safes, to get a working safe... great... we really wanted to sit around while they fixed it as they would NOT fix it if we weren't in the room! 3) only 1 trash can for the WHOLE ROOM & bathroom, and we asked for a 2nd one and never got it (we were there 4 days!).. the GM really cares... 4) had to call to get an ironing board in the room, 5) drain in the bathroom sink didn't work, took 2 days to get it fixed, 6) NO paper or pen... I had to cut a piece of the menu to write a note for housekeeping for their tip, but they NEVER replaced the cut-up menu the whole time we were there!! The staff: 1) breakfast staff very friendly and accommodating, 2) dinner staff couldn't' have cared less if we were there or not. I have been to many Kimpton's (at least 6) which have all been first class, but this one is just a "no class" hotel. And the GM doesn't really give a flip.... SAVE YOUR MONEY and go a REAL first class hotel (there are a few nearby) where you don't need to give up YOUR vacation time due to the Kimpton's lack of providing the amenities that one would expect from such a hotel. I stayed at your property, Kimpton Monaco Baltimore July 5-7 and had multiple disturbing issues. Upon check-in there was no bellman to help us cart our luggage to our room. The hotel upon entrance was very hot. Once getting into our room 1417 we noticed the room was uncomfortably warm. The microwave in the middle of the hallway near the elevators! There were no robes, the outlet by the lamp didn't work, the refrigerator was barely cold, no decor, one chair and bugs smudged on the mirrors. I let you know about the missing seating, refrigerator and robes. Your team brought up the robes a random metal folding chair and I was told by maintenance that the refrigerators don't get very cold. Went to dinner at B&O and Dominic was an EXCELLENT server! We told his supervisor (black female with red deadlocks) and she was so rude! She rolled her eyes and didn't say thank you and did not relay the positive feedback to Dominic at all. They wouldn't allow Dominic to tie the bill to my room so we paid there. We made it through a very uncomfortably warm night since at that point we realized the AC was not working. Called B&O next morning for breakfast the supervisor was rude. Black female with long braids. We left for the day came back at 2pm room was JUST beginning to clean the room and we had to wait in the HOT lobby until she was done. Got back to the room and the heat was unbearable. I let you know and maintenance came and tried to solve this issue with no success. We told that the other rooms were also warm on that floor! We had to go to another room on the 11th floor (I requested high floor away from an elevator both rooms were right next to the elevator) they did not send anyone to help relocate us. Thank goodness maintenance helped! We get to room 1117 and it had no robes (again) no clock and there were bugs in our sheets which we discovered the next morning! (I included photos) I have stayed in Kimpton's across the US for over 10yrs. I was even a Kimpton Member before IHG took over. I am very familiar with your properties including this one as I have stayed MULTIPLE times and this was the worst Kimpton experience in all 10yrs. My sister who is asthmatic, my 1.5yr son and myself who has a joint related autoimmune disease were exhausted from having to deal with all of these issues. My sister could barely breathe in that hot hotel all while I lugged luggage around the hotel only to sleep in a bug infested bed with my 1.5yr old! Needless to say I will not be coming back to this property again. I had staff tell me that the AC has not been working for over two weeks! There was never a manager available to speak to. And your limited staff knew very little about what to do! I am so disappointed in seeing this property go downhill as I had frequently bragged and both witnessed how great it USED to be. I have reserved this property for corporate events and you have lost my personal and professional business after this experience. I just checked in and I am extremely unhappy with my room. We're paying over 200 and some dollars a night. I thought this was a 4 to 5 star hotel but it's not. The lobby area the restaurant all of that looks great but my room is very old and tattered looking. I have a hole in my duvet. Scratches on the wall. Furniture is all scratched up. I'm just not happy and I probably will not stay here again, and I do not recommend this Hotel. Also, I would like to add that for the wine reception that's complementary. That was also a disappointment serving Moscato which is a very sweet white wine instead of a serving Chardonnay or Pinot Grigio. The red wine was very cheap and had a lot of acid in the wine. . The two most impressive things about this hotel are the architecture and the staff. The historic building is stunning, literally took my breath away as I entered the vast foyer. A gorgeous marble staircase takes you to the second floor lobby, or there are 3 or 4 guest elevators. I felt safe because you need a room card for the elevator to go beyond the lobby floor. I went to get ice and noticed they kept an antique Mail Drop. I love that they kept these historic touches, even though the rooms are more modern. In my room was a historic print that lights up as a hall nightlight. Very cool. Every single member of staff was friendly, kind and helpful, from the valet parking staff to the security guards to the front desk. Everyone. I love that the hotel is pet-friendly. Room was nicely appointed, spacious and clean. Bathroom was a good size and shower flow was strong and hot. Shower door was difficult to maneuver, as you have to lean in to turn the shower on and get wet (with cold water) while doing so. I was disappointed there were no robes in the room but was told I could call housekeeping to request one. Being in the city's downtown, there are really no views except of other buildings. On the lobby level, there is a lounge/sitting area which was lovely and quiet. I did not visit the restaurant, but understand there is a daily wine happy hour. I loved that in the lobby there were lemon-, orange-, and cantaloupe-infused waters. And the complimentary morning coffee was excellent! My one complaint? $50 for valet parking, $40 for self park. 5 star hotel , -1 Doorman! Me and my Bf spent September 4th through 6th at the kimpton and on the last night the doorman / Bellman (Tall man , white shirt , wore nike boots, brown skin , older) decided to harass us, while our luggage was behind the counter and we waited for our flight out! He came up asking us question that had nothing to do with the hotel , wanted to let us know how much he spent there, told us the hotel got over on us , walked away and came back to do it again ! Are we not allowed to sit in the lobby while they held our bags??? He also told us the front desk sent him over , but when i asked the young lady she was clueless but said she would report the incident. I just wanted to say hats off to the staff at the Kimpton Hotel Monaco. I don't get downtown very often anymore and I had some time to kill before an event started yesterday. That being said, I wandered into the Hotel Monaco. The building I found out has quite a storied history behind it. The inside was very well put together and looked beautiful with that high end ambiance you come to expect from a luxury hotel. I was allowed to walk around and explore, which was wonderful. Keep in mind, I wasn't staying there as a customer and they knew that. I was even offered a free pour of wine, which is usually reserved for hotel guests. It is certain touches like that which you don't forget. I had a few good long conversations with the people who work there, just getting to learn about the hotel. Here's how I see it: if you make me feel at home and comfortable when I am NOT even a paying guest at the hotel, I can only imagine how they actually treat those who stay there! I'm no hotel connoisseur but I'd always considered Kimptons/Hotel Monacos to be nice. But as pointed out in other reviews, this one has the appearance of grandeur, but it is a facade. Yes, it's very pretty, but on further inspection, it's not somewhere I'd ever stay again. The brand is promising cleanliness, but did not deliver. As the hotel recently reopened on August 1, I would have expected a sparkling clean room. Instead, while the bathroom surfaces were clean, everything else (desks, side tables, light switches) had a deep layer of dust. That tells me the room hadn't truly been cleaned in months, yet alone in preparation for a guest's stay. The bathtub jets were absolutely disgusting. This hotel clearly has no business operating jet tubs. The bed was really nice but I assume the sheets were not clean. Thinking about it, no telling about the towels either. Service was primarily excellent. Nina at the front desk is amazing and super knowledgeable. And the valets were great. I did call the front desk at night, asking if they had OTC medications available. There is a placard in the bathroom that states everything they have available and that if it is not listed, they will get it. I was super sick that evening and told the evening desk staff that and she suggested that I got to the nearby convenience store. While normally that would be an appreciated suggestion, especially since she gave directions, since I had told her how sick I was and that I was unable to leave the room, the lack of situational awareness was quite appalling. Clearly the placard lies and you cannot get what you need. Also, I was told that the hotel had been at max capacity the evening before, due to an event. Which did not make me feel safe at all, because who is having events in a pandemic? Not that the hotel necessarily had an event, but between the guests I saw and the lack of cleanliness, it was deeply concerning. A change from the typical hotel decor, with its Gatsby Era theme. It is located in downtown Baltimore, 4 blocks from the convention center and 2 more for inner Harbor. We checked in later in the evening but was able to get settled in quickly, front desk was quick and helpful. There is valet at the front door, but no valet area. I had to put my hazards on along the road to unload and pass the key to the valet, not quite safe. The rooms were clean and beds were comfortable. I like how the bathrooms actually had tiles instead of the typical bath-fitter plastic some chains have to save money. The room had a fridge, but no microwave. read more

I do not know where to begin with the review, so I'm going to jump right on in. First off, the hotel is so beautiful. Stunning. Lovely interiors. Truly a gem! Check-in was a breeze. We made our way up to our room. We had a gorgeous view. Of course we inspected. The first thing we saw was a dead roach. Next, we peeped under the desk and found a number of tiny lil ziplock baggies and corresponding powdery white crumbs sprinkled all on the floor. YES. We go to the desk with pictures and honestly the person seemed more appalled about the roach than the drugs. We were given another room and our pick of snacks and wine from the "bodega". Our next room was okay, but still not great. We lost our view and the bathtub. There was still various trash left behind from the last guests.. They had this sign on the bathroom counter listing items they have in case you forgot. There was also a part that said if it's not on the list, call the desk and they'll get it for you. I called and asked for matches, they told me they didn't have them and that was that! That night when we got into bed, we noticed food stains all over the sheets but it was late so we just went to sleep anyway. The bed was AMAZING though. Sooo comfortable! Despite the bed being heavenly, the AC was SO LOUD it made it really hard to sleep. The next day we ordered food, and on our way down we stopped by the front desk and asked for new bedding. Waited over 2 hours...Nothing. So we called the desk from the room. Waited a few more hours...Still nothing. At dinner time we walked downstairs to pick up delivery and stopped by the desk for a second time. This was early evening, it wasn't dark yet. We were assured they would be brought up, hand delivered by the person we spoke to. More hours passed. We waited to get ready for bed bc we didn't wanna be in the shower when they came. Then the phone rang, it was the same person that assured us they were gonna bring the bedding. They apologized for out wait and again offered snacks from the "bodega"...Around 11pm we *finally* got our sheets. The next day we decided to try to order lunch from the hotel restaurant, B&O Brasserie. I looked up the hours and called the restaurant directly but I could only get an automated voice message. I clicked through the phone menu and got routed to the front desk. They transferred me back to the restaurant...Voicemail again. Then I went back to the restaurant's site, and it said if you're staying in the hotel use a certain extension. Tried that, still couldn't get through. I called the desk, was placed on a hold for a while. The person came back and said they didn't know why the restaurant wasn't picking up...Turns out the hours on the website were wrong and that they didn't open until dinner. For our first few days we didn't have neighbors but when the weekend came, the rooms adjacent to ours were filled. That's when we learned how thin the walls really are. From the left, we heard a baby crying at all hours of the day and night. From the right, all we could smell was SMOKE. We initially thought someone was smoking right outside our door, but we peeped and saw that the neighbors had sealed the perimeter of the door with towels. So we know what they were doing. LOL. All in all, this hotel is GORGEOUS!! You can tell that it really used to be THAT girl. I'm not sure if the shift to airbnb has anything to do with it, but she's fallen off a bit. I think that she could get her spunk back, but it's gonna take $ and dedicated staff bc they are cutting some serious corners. Would I stay here again? Probably. Would I pay full price? Definitely not. read more

Without question the most convoluted way to get a car parked. They offer valet but the valet will likely refuse to help you. On top of that belly doesn't know where to do self park at despite there being one one block down. Apparently the valet is not part of the hotel despite it saying valet for the hotel. Either way the air conditioning in the room doesn't seem to work. But they did offer to move us to another room. Update: AC's are all broken too... a total joke... read more

Not a well maintained property, much need of a renovation. We could hear water & toilet flush from room next door. Our toilet and sink was loud! Wallpaper pealing. Furniture nicked and missing handles. You could hear so much noise from street. Not worth the money paid. read more

Overall I can't complain about the Kimpton. The wine hour is the best part, it is now in the restaurant. Check in was no problem. Our rooms were comfortable, the only issue I had was the water in the shower did not get very warm, even after several minutes. The bed and lines were very comfortable. We did regulated extra pillows. It was quiet. Guests do seem to be smoking marijuana in the building so the smell lingers in the halls, not sure why that is any different than smacking cigarettes. Parking, we self parked at the garage around the corner, but it only saved us 6 bucks. read more

First of all, the room was beautiful, except that it didn't have air conditioning or a working curtain. The valet parking is a joke and you have to pay the valet separately. You have to pay for water. I spend 150+ nights a year in hotels and don't remember the last time I had to pay for water. The night desk clerk was rude, unsympathetic to the numerous problems I had, and in fact threatened to throw me out because I was unhappy with the hotel. B&O Restaurant is disgusting and old. Bed and pillows were hard. They changed my room for a third time without telling me and I ended up waking up the new guest in my second room. read more

Definitely one of our fav hotels thus far! Hubby & I have a tradition where we go for staycations on the weekend to get away from the kids. Recently we've been traveling to Bmore a lot and decided to stay at Hotel Monaco. As Spire Elite guests with IHG we automatically received an upgraded suite and free bottle of champagne. The Jacuzzi King Spa room had plenty space, quiet, clean, and nonetheless more than what we expected! Great customer service! We definitely will be back and have set a high bar for the next hotel we stay at in BMore! read more

The hotel is in a very nice part of town in a gorgeous art deco building. The entryway is a little confusing at first, but makes up for it with the gorgeous marble staircases. There were 2 weddings here when we visited. The lounge area has a well-designed fireplace with the circular table for daily happy hour, and morning coffee and tea from La Colombe. The staff we interacted with were very friendly. For our anniversary they also got us a nice bottle of wine and upgraded our room to include an amazing Jacuzzi. I will definitely return on future trips. read more
