Mount Vernon hotel with a luxurious, vintage, boutique vibe, with several in-house bars and restaurants. Booked 2 rooms for myself and my family for a birthday. The king suite was amazing, but the queen suite I booked was a bit falsely advertised. I was expecting a pink themed room (for the birthday girl), but it was yellow instead, not like the pictures online. Minor detail, but I was a bit disappointed. Another small detail I noticed was the quilt detailing was peeling, but underneath was different colored fabric. I'm not sure if the ripping quilts was intentional or not, but it put me off a bit. Other than that, the decor was fabulous. I loved the checkered tiled bathrooms, the leopard print carpet, and canopied beds. For one night, both rooms ran me about $500. Not bad for a luxury hotel, but not cheap either. Check in was seamless, the rooms were clean, and we enjoyed going to the bars inside the hotel including the Ash Bar, Blooms, and Coral Wig. The biggest complaint about this hotel is the location, which is part of the hotel experience. It's in a rough neighborhood. In my 3 days experience walking around Baltimore and surrounding areas of the hotel, it is pretty bad. There are people on the streets clearly on drugs and the Marijuana smell alone lingers on me after i walk pass them. Alot of homeless people, people boldly asking for money, people of certain variety gathering on the streets making it intimidating to walk by. So, to say the least, the location of the hotel is terrible unless the city cleans up the streets and straighten out the community. Inside the hotel, people were helpful and nice. Everywhere inside is too dark. It might be on purpose but it give creepy vibes or didn't pay electric bills vibe. The intended vibe is supposed to be very baltimore and i can see why. The room is clean and nice. Still dark. The bed is soft and comfortable. Outlets are a complaint for me. I had to move take and chair to the corner of the room to plug in. Bathroom is clean as far as I can tell. My only complaint in the bathroom is when showering, occasionally the water unexpectedly becomes scorching hot. Maybe someone flushed on the other room but I got temporary burn right in the face so be careful. The ash bar was the only food spot inside the hotel. Dinner was alright but I'd pass on breakfast here. Overall, it is a decent hotel in a bad neighborhood. I wouldn't come back mainly because of the neighborhood. Baltimore is just overall in rough shape. read more

I really enjoyed my recent stay at the Ulysses. It's a charming, boutique-like hotel with whimsical decor and really friendly staff. My room was very quiet, and the bed was incredibly comfortable. I loved the canopy - felt like my room when I was a kid! The hotel is in the Mount Vernon area of downtown Baltimore, and there were lots of charming restaurants and coffee shops nearby. I was also easily able to catch and Uber to work-related destinations and the airport, so the location is incredibly convenient. On my final day in town, I had an late flight and the front desk allowed me to leave my luggage there for the afternoon, which was incredibly helpful! As a business traveler, the room did lack some of the amenities I prefer on a busy trip (like an in-room fridge, coffee maker, an in-room desk area, and adequate outlets for charging). While I would most definitely stay at the Ulysses again for leisure trip, I don't know that I would choose this property again for a business trip. read more

I paid $1300 for two nights in a suite that was just awful. I could not adjust room temperature without notifying front desk who said they had to call engineering any time a room temperature needs to be altered! I ended up sleeping in my sweater after two calls did noting to help. Rooms are dark with weak lighting, and finding light switches was like a treasure hunt. There is not even a coffee maker or microwave in the rooms. The bed was hard and lumpy. This is a hotel that was listed in the Marriott a but it is not anywhere close to Marriott standards. read more

We stayed here for a couple of nights during our visit to Baltimore. The hotel is gorgeous with beautiful decor and theming all around. They have the Ash bar and restaurant onsite as well as Bloom which is another small bar. We didn't wander in, but it looked cool from the outside. Our room was clean and we loved the unique decor. The entire hotel has dim, soft lighting that gives off a fun and mysterious vibe. The hotel staff were all very nice as well. They kindly held our luggage before check-in and after check-out so we could explore without carting around luggage. We really enjoyed our stay and definitely recommend it! read more

Sorry it took so long to post this review - I dropped my phone on the floor of our room and it took me a week to find it. This is less 'boutique' and more 'boo-tique', because everyone scares the shit out of you as they materialise out of the gloom in the corridor. Seriously, why are a the lights so low everywhere? The bedside lamps were like energy-saving bulbs transitioning to hospice care. Half of the outlets didn't work, and the other half tripped the fuse for the whole corridor when my wife plugged in the hairdryer. Dim lights, no power - a hotel experience straight out of the 1800's. P.s. recommend using your TV as a light. Oh btw, the curtain in front of it only lets you see 1/2 the screen. read more

Rooms are small but the bed was comfy and bathroom was spacious enough with shelf space to get ready. The folks at the front desk were great. Only con was that the restaurant was closed during our stay due to a private event. Not a huge deal since we were staying at the hotel for a wedding but I was hoping to try out the restaurant. I was recently in Baltimore for a work trip, and both my colleague and my bestie recommended hotel Ulysses. After my two-night stay there, I can totally see why. This charming hotel is so unique and enchanting, and I absolutely loved it. The hotel itself is beautiful. You are not going to get this new, modern cookie cutter hotel experience that you would expect from a big chain hotel, however you will get a room that is filled with character and the sofest bed, the coolest decor, and wonderful service from the staff. I almost felt like I was staying in someone's elegant estate versus a hotel. The room I got was pretty large for one person with a couch and little table as well as an area to hang your clothes if you wanted. The bathroom was also super spacious with the most beautiful blue tile. My room was serviced both days, and as I mentioned the bed was extremely comfortable. Their curtains are also amazing, as I slept in both days because of how dark the room was when they were closed, it was amazing. While you won't have things like a mini fridge or coffee maker in your room here, the hotel has two amazing F&B options for you to enjoy coffee, snacks and cocktails as well. It's also walking distance to great bars, coffee shops and restaurants. The two things I loved most about this hotel was it's charm as well as the staff. Everyone was super nice and accommodating. This is also on the affordable side. Last but not least, when traveling solo as a woman safety is always the most important to me. I felt super safe at this hotel, and later in the evening I noticed a key is required to enter the building. For being a hotel on the smaller side, I was also impressed at how quiet it was in the room / the floors. Will definitely return! read more

Came here because I had an appt at Johns Hopkins and needed to stay somewhere nearby. Often, your first experience can color everything that comes after. I don't feel like writing a story, so I'm just gonna list the pros and cons. Pros : - Interesting decor and the bar sometimes has live music. -The bed and pillow were very comfortable. -Decent drinks at the bar Cons : -Hotel advertises valet parking on website and also has a sign at the front for "valet parking". Upon entering, was told that they don't offer valet parking and never have. Wtf? Then a paper was pushed in my face with the parking info, and the receptionist tells me I need to move my car within ten minutes from the area I parked in that has a freaking sign that says "VALET PARKING". -The actual parking lot is in a bad area, and down a narrow alley way with graffiti and run down buildings. You have to go onto a website and pay for it, then walk back hoping your car is safe for the night. (Also, I have MS, which makes things difficult and is specifically why I chose a place with valet parking) The lot also had a sign advertising for a different parking website by scanning the QR code on it ... Got back to the hotel and was told DON'T USE THAT ONE, WE DON'T KNOW WHERE IT CAME FROM!! wtaf? so there's a possible scam that you know about and don't do anything about??? -The restaurant literally just has 5-6 things on the menu. One is a Cheese Plate with nothing special. The Meat Plate included pre-packaged sliced sandwich ham. There was also some crab dip that was obviously bought frozen and then just popped in the oven for 15 minutes. This is NOT a restaurant. It would seem to be more of a limited snack bar with 5-6 basic appetizers, and a microwave and fridge/freezer in the back. - shower is tiny. Like, I'm just an average sized person and I kept bumping the walls or curtain. I can't imagine a larger person being comfortable in it. And there's no worse feeling than a wet shower curtain (with god knows what kinds of germs on it) sticking to the side of your leg as you're turning around. -There is a strong perfumey smell EVERYWHERE. Even their soap, shampoo etc smell like it. I actually shudder when I think about it. Sooooooo much perfume.... So... I like the decor and the idea of the hotel, but execution needs some MAJOR work. Not a good experience. Now I hate Baltimore and I'm pretty sure this hotel has at least something to do with it. read more

After a mix-up at another hotel, I ended up at Ulysses due to its proximity to Amtrak's Baltimore Penn Station. I was pleasantly surprised by this quant hotel. As someone who appreciates history, this hotel was right up my alley. Stepping into the lobby is like stepping into the distant past. Staying at Ulysses felt more like staying at a historic bed and breakfast as opposed to a hotel. My room was very small and there was no fridge in the room. Those are the negatives. But I liked the look of the room, and the bed was a very comfy canopy bed. I was only there for one night, but I enjoyed my stay and would come back again. read more

Some charm in Charm City. I stumbled upon this place on Expedia after struggling to find a room for this past weekend, and am lucky this place fell into my lap. It's a very unique boutique hotel not like many others you'll stay at. The rooms are on the small side - or at least the one I had was, but it serves It's purpose. If you're on a lengthy stay, or like chilling in your room for extended periods of time, this might not be the spot for you. However, if you need a comfortable bed, a shower, cool AC and a nice hotel bar downstairs, check this spot out. The aesthetic is almost something out of a Tim Burton movie. read more

Speaking of Blooms, what an experience! The mirrored ceiling, the crimson banquettes, and the purple stools set the stage for a night to remember. One other caveat to mention is... it's a bit dark. While I, nor my partner, found it an issue, if you struggle to see in dim lighting be warned or bring a flashlight! That said, I'd still very much recommend The Ulysses! In a nutshell? Was looking for just the right hotel to spend the night in Baltimore. Stumbled across the Hotel Ulysses online and thought it might be just the place and, indeed, it was. From the flamingos holding up the side tables to the leopard print theme throughout the room to the red and black tiled bathroom, the decor in our room was just wonderful. Bloom's, the bar off to the right of the first floor check-in area, was a great place to get a tasty alcoholic beverage. Situated in Baltimore's Mount Vernon neighborhood, culture and beauty is right at your feet when you step outside. My girlfriend and I ate at Kumari instead of eating at the Ulysses (reviewed elsewhere) but the Ulysses does have a restaurant and on Fridays, a food truck, something that makes a return visit desirable to me. I had the most wonderful time at the Hotel Ulysses. From the moment I stepped inside and Tye greeted me to almost missing check out because of how wonderful the bed was, my experience was pure bliss. I so appreciated all the special architectural details and I'm usually not super into that kind of thing but it was just impossible to not appreciate it here. The neighborhood is wonderful, very walkable, and very close to Penn Station. Charming on the surface, this hotel is nothing special beneath the veneer. It has the feel of trying to be more than it is. My room was small, with no closet, refrigerator, or dresser. The TV was way too high and could only be watched on an angle. The single lock on the door of the room was inadequate. When I arrived, my room had no heat, but that was quickly addressed by management as an oversight. The Caesar salad entree at the bar/ restaurant sounded delicious on the menu, but except for lettuce, other ingredients were all supposedly incorporated into the salad dressing. Thankfully, there are good restaurants in the neighborhood. I particularly enjoyed one serving Afghan food. The shower was poorly designed and spilled water over the floor in the small bathroom. The bed was very comfortable but the solid red light from the tv made sleep difficult The staff was friendly and helpful, even holding the door open when I entered the small lobby, but the staff is clearly constrained by remote management. All in all, this is a small boutique hotel that has some work to do to fulfill its potential, but as it is, it is on the level of a good Day's Inn or something similar, with clear aspirations of wanting to be something better. If you can get a good deal, it might be worthwhile for the bed alone, but there are better options available in Baltimore City. read more
