Kim does an amazing job w alterations and I usually get sleeves or pants shortened. She pretty fast too! Week has been the longest!!!

I spent over $100 to get 3 items altered. They did a horrible job and her excuse for one was she didn't have the right colored thread and on another she said I should have told her to make it tighter, it was still falling off. I really don't believe she did anything to 2 of the items. then if you try to explain the English goes right out of the door. Go somewhere else. Overpriced and not worth it! read more

Ive been getting my clothes mended here for years and this place is always reasonably priced, fast and I've had no problems with the work done. I'm surprised to see they only have 4 stars. I've tried a couple of other alteration places closer to me in north asheville but they were so expensive I returned to Kim's. The woman who owns this place can come off as grouchy or impersonable and I think it is a cultural thing with some older traditional asian women. Her husband is very happy and friendly. I needed a simple zipper repair or replacement for a p coat. They were courteous taking it. And, when it was ready, they said it only took a minute to fix so no charge. They wouldn't take my money. The price would have been very reasonable anyway. They'll get my business from now on. read more

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. This is regarding KIM the owner as well as the shop. I took in about 20 items pants mainly to expand waist on. I was charged over $400 then she added black elastic to everything even white pants jeans etc. I offered on first day that I would be happy to purchase best quality elastic but she said she had plenty. No idea anyone would use colors that are extreme opposite of fabric! So now I have huge black band horribly stitched 2 inches wide which shows on everything. Pants, shorts can't be used unless I have shirts hiding the work hanging down to bottom of butt . It took months and when I went back my clothes were not together. I would go to the front she would bring out a couple items and I said where are the other 15 items. She went back into shop and found a couple and said are these yours? She had no idea which were mine and didn't have them even done. I never got everything but she held hostage my clothes until I paid for things she couldn't find and weren't done but were on her revised! illegible receipt. She demanded and required a tip with an amount she chose. My understanding is against the law to demand time except in restaurants where you have large parties and it is indicated on the menu. I give great tips but obviously I wouldn't here. WORST RETAIL experience. She destroyed my entire wardrobe!!! It should have been an easy job and said it would take 3 weeks not over 3 months I will add shocking photos to this or a second reviewand I wish I took her to small claims court probably too late. Needed 3 pieces done. All the hemming was fine, however the alterations for the bridesmaid dresses were poorly done. The hook was not only placed on the incorrect side of the dress but in a position that created an unflattering look. The second bridesmaid dress was returned with half stitched in bra pads that were about 8 sizes too big. Refund was not offered. Went over to Misha alterations and he fixed them both. read more

Do not use them! Horrible service. Charged me $35 (plus tip) to hem a pair of pants and a shirt. When I went to pick them up, I was not happy with the work. When I asked them to fix it, they wanted another $18!!! I told them nevermind, I will take it home and do it myself. The man grabbed my pants back from me and proceeded to remove the 4 pins they had just put in! I ended up paying $47.33 just so I could take my clothing back and sew it myself. They acted like they could care less! I'm not sure how they stay in business. read more

I traveled to Asheville for my bridal portraits last week and had a huge issue of my dress no longer zipping. I've had two dresses altered here. One body-con dress taken in on the sides and another Vietnamese dress sewn on the sides. They were about $20-$25 and they did a perfectly fine job. Turnaround time was about a week. They're a pretty straightforward tailor. No bells and whistles, just efficient and reasonably priced. read more

Had some work pants I needed hemming ASAP, had this place recommended by a friend. After the amazing service I had, I can't say I'll be going anywhere else in the future. The owner was very helpful and informative (I'm not very knowledgeable about these things) and they were able to get the pants done in a timely fashion. I've had *plenty* of negative experiences with alteration shops in the past over very simple jobs, so I wasn't sure what to expect, but I have to say I was impressed. I always need alterations, as I am below average height. I had a great seamstress but when I moved I was looking for someone closer. I brought a few pairs of pants, some skirts, and a dress to Kim's and was thoroughly pleased with the results. Everything was very well done, the pricing was incredibly affordable, and the prompt 1 week turnaround is perfect for my schedule.
