I am so glad I went with my bridal salon's recommendation to use Tara for alterations, despite her being two hours outside of where I live. Her expertise was well worth the commute for each appointment! I had sleeves added and they were not only gorgeous, but looked as though they had always been a part of the gown, they were so seamless. She also helped my sister with correcting some issues her bridal salon's seamstress had made with our mother's veil that she wore for her wedding (we got married six weeks apart from each other), and even created a new modesty panel for her on the fly and arranged for it to be ready in time for her wedding after her dissatisfaction with the one that came with the dress came up just a week prior at one of my last fittings, making her a complete superhuman lifesaver. Beyond all that she was incredibly kind, funny, and patient with me throughout the process, and quick to offer input and advice when I had any questions. Simply put you won't find a better seamstress anywhere else!

The bridesmaid dress Tara altered for me (let it out a size & hemmed). It was just right!

AMAZING! I am so happy to have found Tara. She was incredibly easy to work with and such a nice person. In addition to the typical bridal alterations (hemming, taking in the sides, shaping...etc), I worked with Tara to change the neckline of my wedding dress from a V neck to a sweetheart. Changing the neckline on my particular dress was more involved than I would have guessed, but it came out perfectly! Tara has a lot of experience in both dressmaking and alterations, so she had great suggestions and an eye for what needed to be done. And I would also add that I thought the pricing was very fair! Overall a great experience, and I am so lucky to have found you. I also took a bridesmaid dress to be let out a size and hemmed, and it was, of course, perfect as well! Thanks, Tara!!

The hem (2-3 layers) alone was $250, with the rest $50. When I asked, they said hems start at $150. Why not say that over the phone, then? Other bridesmaids paid around $60 for hems, so that price felt excessive. After a 10% discount and scaling back the work to bust, waist, and only one hem layer, I paid $211. The finished dress fit very well, and the seamstress actually hemmed all layers at no extra charge, which I appreciated. Turnaround was also fast (about 1-2 weeks). However, when I picked it up I noticed a large snag in the chiffon. The front desk said, "You already paid for it, so..." before taking it to the seamstress, which was concerning given their strict policies: full payment required BEFORE work begins, and NO fit adjustments without additional charges (unless a hem comes loose.) The seamstress fixed the snag, though. They were vague in their texts and commitment to providing a good result. I wanted to protect myself, so I asked "If I gain or lose 0 weight, it'll fit as pinned, correct?" And only then, did they give me an explicit "Yes." The policies are not customer friendly, their room for accountability was very limited, and the pricing was high compared to other shops, though the final workmanship and turnaround were good. The business might a fit for convenience/people who have money to lose. OR they are a small business that's been burned before and has now adopted broad policies and protections.

I recently took a brand new pant suit to Misha's to have both the sleeves and legs shortened and…read morethe metal clips at the wais eased. When I collected it, one sleeve puckered and would not lie flat, the stitching was incomplete revealing a gaping hole, and the black threads (on a light blue suit) were clearly visible. The pants had been sewn with what could only be described as a "mess" of black stitches which were also visible from the right side. The newly added metal clips were drowned in stitches and the original clips had not been removed. I hadn't realized it was such a mess until I got it home. Reluctant to take it back, I called and Misha insisted on fixing it although he didn't fix the clips. My overall takeaway was: if you need something altered properly, don't take it to Misha!

I really wanted to love this place and support a local business, but my experience was…read moredisappointing. I took 6 pieces in for alterations ($95 total). Most were fine, though rushed, with uneven stitching--but you wouldn't notice unless you looked super closely. However, one pair of pants had particularly poor work--messy stitching that didn't match the fabric color and a new zipper that bulged out when worn. It shouldn't have gone out the door. When I called, Misha was friendly and told me he'd refund both the alteration and the cost of the pants. But when I came back a week later, he acted like that conversation never happened. Instead, he accused me of "trying to make money off of him" and refused to honor the refund he had promised. He offered to fix the pants in 30 minutes, but at that point, I had lost trust and the pants were a lost cause in my eyes. He also got loud and rude, even though I remained calm and trying to have a constructive conversation. After 15 minutes of back-and-forth, he finally wrote me a check for the $26 alteration--but then refused to give me my pants back. It's bad business to make a promise and not follow through (and take my pants?!), but even worse to treat a customer that way. I even told him he could have just said, "Bring them in and let's see what we can do" instead of making an empty promise. After that, he suddenly claimed that's what he had said all along on the phone. So easy to create false memories apparently!

NEVER GO HERE. At…read more6'7", finding a good fitting suit is difficult. I haven't purchased a new suit in 15 years due to this reason. Therefore I got a new suit made for me at an amazing tailor in Chapel Hill (thanks Julian's). Unfortunately, due to timing, I was not able to use them for alterations. I live in a small town and thought I'd like to take the alterations to a "professional" location in Asheville. Therefore I took the suit to Mary's based on the great recommendations here. I asked for the pants to be CUFFED, fairly simple request. I was told they would be ready to pick up 1 week later. I got a call asking me to come 2 days later. When I arrived my pants were not done. I arrived tonight to pick up the pants on the way to a major meeting to find that they WERE NOT CUFFED!!! The owner looked at the ticket, said "oh, sorry" and then told me there was no way to correct it (since the remaining fabric was in my pocket). The hemming job is adequate. Honestly, they took the time to kneel on the floor and mark my pants with chalk but couldn't get my request straight?? This is a lot different than overlooking my steak, I doubt they are buying my a new suit. Of course, they still charged me for the service of messing up my custom order suit.
