I don't recommend getting important garments tailored here. I enjoyed the shop and customer service. And I'm sure the embroidery service is what they do best. As for getting our wedding dresses tailored, we did not receive what we were expecting. My dress just needed the hem shorted as I am average height. My fiancées need some more love, as the bust needed to fit better and the hem shorted. We got measured, paid, and left feeling confident in their expertise. Weeks pass and I'm feeling antsy, so I give them a call for an update. Turns out they were done and ready to be picked up. Once we picked them up and tried them on at home we noticed some issues- My dress now had padding in the bust (did not ask for) and the inner lining of the dresses hem was now longer then the outside. I was able to get into the dress to take the padding out with minimal damage. (given I have minimal sewing skills) But the messed up hem I will have to take to a different tailor. My Fiancées dress had two sets of padding added to it and did not fix the original issue. I removed both sets from the dress. And with my mom's sewing skills she helped it to sit flush to the skin. The hem was also not well done but was less noticeable under the outer layer of tulle. I did not have any extra time to bring the dresses back in to have them fixed. And with the experience we had, I did not feel confident that bringing them back in would fix them. Also with the possibility of getting charged again. I am not writing this to write this place off. They have other services that I'm sure they do a good job at. I am writing this to proceed with caution if you are looking for a tailor. It was definitely an interesting experience for us. And our day was special regardless. read more

I CAN'T STRESS THIS ENOUGH- DO NOT TAKE YOUR CLOTHING ITEMS TO STITCH-N-TIME!!!Read other reviews on YELP and Google as well before thinking about using this company. I am not the type to leave reviews that hurt peoples livelihood, but the treatment I received from this shop was so egregious that a review is not only warranted but necessary to ensure this doesn't keep happening to other people. I had 4 polyester dresses that needed to be hemmed 4". She collects her fee upfront. When I got home I was sticker shocked to see $140.00 was charged. I went back to the store & asked why she charged me so much for simple stitching.. She said she had employees to pay and no one has ever argued what she charges. I asked for a copy of her work up sheet & noted a $20 amount was added. She said I must have bought something from her store and she wouldn't just put that charge on. I have always been polite being in the corporate world and Elaine (owner) said what do you expect me to do. I said refund my $20, in fact cancel the alterations I bought in the day before. She said that they started the work and you can pick them up in 3 days vs the 2 weeks she said when I dropped them off. I asked why she didn't give me a receipt for her work and was told that she never has. Ouch! When I picked up the dresses, they did a straight stitch when it should have been a stretch stitch. To make matters worse she was adamant that they always use a straight stitch. I said that the stitching will break if any pressure is put on it. She said she's not going to redo them and will not refund my money. She started to literally scream at me, kept throwing the dresses back at me and said leave & don't come back. I happened to record her screaming & yelling at calm old shaking me . I tried to reason with Elaine and really tried to get her to put herself in my shoes. It's good business practice to take care of your customers and to take care of occurrences like this instead of the alternative but it was clear she wasn't going to budge on her position. JUST TO ADD: I never leave negative reviews for businesses. As a former small business owner, I know how much it can hurt a business. Equally, I will never back down when I feel like I have been wronged and treated unprofessionally. Unfortunately, this experience has resulted in me having to take action against this business. A good intentioned and good hearted person or business would never give back an item they damaged and not accept responsibility for it. I know how important one's business reputation is to cultivate and keep healthy. But the lack of your customer service and alterations abilities has made me want to warn other people of working with your company. This lack of quality is unacceptable - not to mention your cost does not match up with the value. If you're looking for an alterations business in Asheville, I think anywhere else but Stitch-N-time has to be a better option. read more

I just now opened Stitch N Time's website to see whether this wonderful store had survived the devastating Hurricane Helene and the floods of 2024, and was shocked and horrified to read bad reviews. I have been depending on them for alterations and monogramming since I moved to Asheville in 1999--and even since we moved to Florida in 2010...and then to Michigan in 2022. I still mail EVERYTHING to Elaine and Becky and get EVERYTHING back promptly, perfectly done and with heartfelt warmth. Once after a severe recession, Elaine told me humbly that I and a few others were what had kept her doors open. What she's been through personally--all the while maintaining service throughout all the long, posted hours--is the very definition of the ideal American work ethic. If that's not a stable business I don't know what is. Yes she charges in advance, no she doesn't give receipts, and yes she has a couple of snide signs in the dressing room. I learned to live with that a long time ago, figuring she must have her reasons. Now I think I know why. read more

I only gave one star because they do good work. But the customer service is horrible, the owner is just rude and nasty.

They do not back up their work. I took shorts in to be hemmed and a month later the hem fell out of both pairs on the same exact leg. When I took them back the owner got nasty with me and claimed I did it. Of course I have all the time in the world to be running to her store constantly. I would never support this business I went in today to find out how much the seam on a shirt would cost to get fixed. I also asked about a zipper on a jacket. The older lady told me how much the shirt was i said fine she wrote up a slip and said you have to pay now which was not an issue. What became an issue was when I gave her my credit card she said we have a minimum purchase and I was in a hurry as I was already late for a lunch appointment so I took the shirt back and said I don't have cash i will go someplace else and she very rudely said you don't have to act like and ass. She was a total rude nasty woman who should not be dealing with the public. read more

Saw a *cloth masks* sign on Sweeten Creek so I stopped in. I need a cloth mask for breast cancer radiation starting soon. They don't fit and are totally uncomfortable. The seam along the nose is all bumpy and especially irritating because I wear glasses. $10/each. $21.50 in my Goodwill bin. Plus the owner was just plain nasty. Stay away. read more

I used to use these women, but never again. I was a little put off by all the mean signs posted around the shop stating things such as, "No refunds ever" and "we do not guarantee our work." I had some custom embroidery done here and I Got amazing masks! The final product was so professional and the process was seamless! As for the masks, I picked one out I liked and then they were immediately custom edited to fit my face. The service is amazing not to mention how impeccable the final work product is! I gave A Stitch N Time 2 stars simply because they really do excellent work with alterations. However I have never been in that place and treated even remotely good. I really hate to be this way but the ladies are plain mean, seem to hate their job..life..something..I don't know. I just know they are rude and talk to you like you are an idiot for not knowing what your talking about when it comes to alterations. Get past the rudeness, and you will have great work done. read more

Miserable experience. I was looking for a tailor and someone recommended Elaine. She did a tuck in the back of my jeans, and now they ride up so much they aren't wearable. When spoke with her about this and asked how to remedy, she was snarky and condescending, and offered to charge me again to fix them. She charged 20 bucks to not fix them the first time, in not paying her another cent - I'd rather buy new jeans. Just don't go here. read more
