I've visited quite a few schools in the past, but this school definitely stands out. The instruction is top notch, the students are very technical and passionate about their craft, and the environment is ego-free and pleasant. It all trickles down from the solid leadership of professors Edwin and Jason. They are exemplary examples of people who not only excel at jiu jitsu, but at life. It is very apparent that they both care deeply about their students both on and off the mat. The core group of students that I trained with here are very technical and fundamentally sound. I learned a lot during my short time here. I definitely recommend anyone in the area interested in learning bjj to check this school out.

After seeing the flags waving outside their building, we decided to give it a try. When we signed up for the free trial at US Kungfu Center, they were interested right away. My husband and I loved the fact that they allow a two week trial before having to commit. After the two weeks, our boys were asking when they can go back and wished they could attend every day. With our boys attending weekly for the past 2 months, we have seen such a huge difference with their behavior and attitude in the home. They have been more helpful without us needing to ask them. My youngest even started to help me with the dishes so I wouldn't have to stay later in the kitchen after dinner cleaning. It's nice to see our boys practice what they learn in the class and bringing it into the home. They are definitely showing more confidence, self disciplined, respect, and self control. They are also choosing to eat healthier and also read more than playing on their electronics! Thank you to Shifu and Coach Sherry for being patient with our boys and showing them that practice and hard work is worth at it at the end especially when they know they can do it as long as they don't give up because a black belt is a white belt that never gives up!

I've said to my husband multiple times that the entire experience is worth it for the self-discipline alone. We love seeing her progress in class, but what really amazes us is what happens at home. She's cleaning up after herself without being asked, putting away her dishes without being reminded, and taking care of her own messes. What I love most is that it's so much more than just a sport. I truly think it's one of the most valuable things you can do for a young girl because she's learning self-discipline, confidence, leadership, and how to defend herself. And she absolutely loves it.

He reminded me of Mr. Miyagi from the Karate Kid movies back then and I remember him to very patient and kind. One of my favorite memories was a school wide outing for all the students and families to Wilderness park one Saturday. We participated in a few forms and martial arts exercises, but the bulk of the time was reserved for socializing with one another, playing games, eating, and just having fun! My son's journey started 14 years ago in San Dimas where he studied under Grand Master Petermann, then Master Petermann, at 4 years old. We only went two times a week, but I liked their style and adherence to the traditional ways of Hapkido. When the San Dimas studio closed, they moved temporarily to the Masonic Temple in San Dimas. We later moved to the Pasadena studio (this is when my daughter started), then South Pasadena waiting for Arcadia to open. My son got his black belt under the training of both Mr. Tomas and Master Kim. His early training was from Grandmaster Peterman and Mr. and Mrs. Clark. My daughter is training for her black belt--some 10 years later, under the tutelage of Mr. Tomas, Ms. Kelly, and Mr. Salazar. WHAT A JOURNEY!!! We followed Mr. Tomas because he cares about his students--they are NOT dollar signs as some studios see them. He wants them to succeed but does NOT baby them. He teaches real world experiences that one would face with which Hapkido can help--it is not just fighting. These are life-building transferable skills you can use anywhere--plus defend yourself. I am a veteran high school teacher, and I can almost always tell a student who has been or is in martial arts. Confidence. Respectful, Perseverance. Control. Calm. Independent.
