Highly recommend visiting Kim's Pianos. We sent a request for info online and got an email and phone call from Steve, who asked us about our budget and playing ability and any preferences. Because of Covid, we called in advance before going (they take appointments but are flexible, so we could just call thirty minutes ahead of time to let them know we were on our way from Torrance and that worked). When we arrived, Steve had already told Mr Kim and Tomas, who were both at the store, which pianos he thought we'd be most interested in. He was spot on--my husband immediately felt a connection with his top recommendation. We looked at a baby grand and the upright we eventually went with, and as Steve pointed out, sometimes a higher end upright plays better than a lower end baby grand (which is what our budget was constraining us to). We took a couple hours to decide actually, and they were patient with us which I appreciated! And we ultimately went with the upright Steve recommended. But only after my husband jammed with Tomas, it was pretty epic! Both Steve and Tomas are professionals, so we also connected with them as musicians. It made us feel they really know what they're talking about. We're so glad we got to meet Steve, Tomas, and Mr Kim, and for their assistance in picking out a piano that fit our ability and budget. After several years of learning the piano, I wanted to upgrade from my digital piano to an acoustic piano. Finding the right piano was stressful because pianos are so expensive. I visited Kim's Piano four times, and learned a lot from the various sales people on every visit. I also visited another piano store in Orange County, but I felt Kim's Piano did a much better job maintaining and presenting their pianos in their showroom. I also looked on OfferUp for cheaper deals, but at the end of the day, I decided that with a complex and super-hard-to-move machine like pianos, it would be worth to pay a small premium to Kim's to get more complete service (moving, tuning, warranty, advice) than to go with random individual sellers. I ended up getting a preowned Yamaha U1 through Steve Rivera. He listened carefully to what was important and unimportant in my piano search, and helped me narrow down my options. When I needed information, he was happy to step in and educate me about piano parts. When I needed time to just sit and play the pianos to test them out, he left me alone to make up my mind. I purchased a piano here about two years ago for my daughter. The sale, delivery, and initial tuning we're hassle free. It's my on-going interaction with the technician, Peter, that was awful. I made an appointment with him to tune the piano and he never showed. When I called him an hour later to inquire, he told me he got caught up with some friends watching the baseball game and he was not going to come. I was less than pleased and decided to take my business elsewhere. Fast forward to a year later and I decided to give him a second chance. An hour before my appointment he texted and said he would not be able to make the appointment due to a personal issue. After I called the store to complain, he called me back and said now he could make it, but it would be an hour later. Miraculously his personal emergency was fixed, but he is now stuck in traffic. Fantastic experience with Kim's Piano. My daughter is a beginner and we needed to rent a piano. I know nothing about them and thought there was no way I could afford to rent one, let alone buy. Thank goodness I found Kim's. We are renting a very reasonably priced upright Wurlitzer piano with the option to buy. I was in need of a piano for my foundation (The HSTL Foundation for the Piano, Inc.) to provide the Manila Symphony Orchestra because the availability of decent pianos for public performance in the Philippnes is pretty dismal to put it mildly. After having searched and searched for a few years in New York, California and the internet, I dropped by Kim's Piano whom I'd become familiar with because of James Shawcross' youtube postings. It was such a blessing that day when my husband and I went to Kim's piano to see and learn what kind of piano would best fit our children. Me and my husband never learned how to play piano at all. I began my search for a new piano at several popular piano stores in Orange County. After narrowing my search down to a couple of brands, I decided to go have a look at the Kawai line of grand piano's and I found Kim's Piano on their website as a authorized dealer. I called late evening on a Wednesday and talked to Mr. Kim's relative. I explained that I was piano shopping and would like to make an appointment to come in and take a look at the showroom. He promised to have Mr. Kim call me back right away. Five minutes later, Mr. Kim called me directly. I explained to him what I had been up to and asked if I could meet with him the following day. On Thursday morning I drove up to the Stanton showroom and met with Mr. Kim. He was very friendly and took the time to understand what I was looking for, what I had looked at so far and what price range I was shopping. He then took me on a tour of his showroom and showed me at least 8 different piano manufacturers including Kawai, Estonia, Mason & Hamlin, Steinway, Baldwin and Petrof. After we were done with the tour and demonstration, he asked me what I thought and which piano I thought sounded the best to me. I immediately said that I thoroughly enjoyed how the Mason & Hamlin AA grand sounded but already knew (or thought I did) that it was well out of my price range. He smiled at me and said something like, "Well, what if I told you that we could probably work something out so that it was in my price range" and I told him that I didn't believe him, knowing what the MSRP price was on a new M&H Model AA. After some further discussion with Mr. Kim, I realized that he was seriously going to sell me a brand new, Mason & Hamlin Model AA piano with a PianoDisc Prodigy player and deliver it for FAR less than I could have ever imagined. I literally thought he was kidding me. We sat down and did all the paperwork and shook hands. I am anticipating the delivery of my new piano next week and cannot believe that I was able to get a brand new M&H piano at such a good price from Mr. Kim. I can tell you that Kim's Piano is the "real deal" and you would be foolish to buy a new or used piano anywhere else without first meeting with Mr. Kim. Thank you. read more

I met the piano of my dreams, a 1979 Kawai mahogany KG-2C, at Kim's Pianos. Steve Rivera, professional keyboardist/pianist and staff member at Kim's, found it for me, knew a lot about it, and, when I couldn't resist a moment longer, arranged everything including a very good price that included a reduction in the previously agreed-on price to allow for trading in my old upright, something in the rush of events that had slipped my mind. Mr. Steve Kim himself came down a few days after delivery to provide a complimentary tuning which included additional fascinating details about the piano and a beautiful rendition of Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata." What a delight it is to hear a beautiful piano played beautifully. The Kawai, already sounding beautiful, was even mellower after Mr. Kim's tuning. What a treasure. Spending time in their immense store with seemingly acres of beautiful pianos was tremendous fun. Finding and being able, with Steve Rivera's guidance and owner Mr. Benjamin Kim's generous flexibility on price, to own a piano of this quality is something I had considered a mere fantasy. Everyone from salesperson to manager is knowledgeable and customer oriented. We had one of the co-owners, Mr. Stephen Kim, come and tune up my Mother-In-Law's old piano. He did a great job, not only with the tuning, but he also fixed the creaky pedals AND our wobbly bench. Afterwards, Mr. Kim polished the wood with coconut oil. Such awesome service!
