I had the Wangs and the Fried Rice with Pork. It's a limited but tasty menu with some great items. I will say, if you're not into spicy food, this may not be the best location for you. Kimchi is the predominant ingredient in pretty much everything (except the Potski) so everything I had was on the spicy side. You can only order from the front of the shop. Go there first and place your order, retrieve your number, then head over to Maria's next door for seating. Maria recently expanded with a brighter, summer friendly outside patio and spacious bar addition. If you want the speakeasy feel, you can stay on the traditional side of the bar. Once you pick your favorite spot to sit, place your number on the table/bar and wait for your food to arrive. The portions are reasonable and filling (read, not gut busting... which I prefer). I was not hungry once done but I will say that I was craving something sweet to balance the spicy. No dessert is available... womp womp. I'm closing my eyes and dreaming of some black sesame ice cream, Won! :) Maria's, of course, has a great beer selection and full bar. They also have tap cocktails with a happy hour special for $5 a drink (down from the $8 full price). To that note, I had the Palmer, which was very refreshing. Can I just say I am not a big fan of Asian fusion trend? Kimski's no exception. I love the vibe of this whole place and the great seating areas but the food was somewhat disappointing. I feel like Korean fusion should be more than just topping fries with chopped up Kimchi. Maria's standard was ok but it just tastes like a regular polish sausage. To start, I think this place has a great space and concept. The entire layout with its opening liquor store, the OG dimly lit bar, and the new expansion with lots of wide open seating and 2 patios makes for a great atmosphere that I could easily spend a full day in. The bartenders are nice and the staff is accommodating; you make yourself comfortable and stay for however long, ordering drinks and food at the bar as you see fit. The cocktails run from $8-12 with 8 or so craft cocktails, a section for ginger beer drinks, around 20 or so beers on tap, and a host of other liquors and cans. And if you are trying to be a bit more price-conscious, they also have a rotation selection of 'cheap shit' which includes $2 mystery shots and self described 'shit beers'. Makes for a little something for everybody, even people who want to just sit back on the patio and enjoy the weather with a soda. The Korean-polish fusion concept sounds interesting, and on paper after you get past the initial disbelief you start to think that maybe the flavor combinations could actually work. That said, most of the dishes we tried leaned more heavily into either Korean or polish, so it didn't feel as harmonious a combination of flavors. The Kimski poutine was really tasty and addicting with it's fresh crispy fries and gooey cheese curds, and the pickled onions helped to cut the fattiness, though the gravy didn't have all too strong of a kimchi flavor. If you hadn't told me it was a kimchi gravy I wouldn't have pegged it as having Korean influence. The scallion potato pancake was similar; in that I didn't taste too strong a scallion flavor, though it may have been because my pancake was slightly charred on the bottom(not a terrible thing because I sort of like that taste). Added $3 for pork which was tasty, and I liked the kraut on top, though I would have liked some more Korean influence in there. And then had the duk bok ski which heavily leaned Korean, but with an egg and some cheese. Prefer regular dduk bokki to be honest. All in all Poutine was good, pancake was ok, dduk bokki was eh. Food portions are also a bit smaller for the price; $13 for a potato pancake with pork and $10 for the poutine is a bit high for the area. Overall, great space and atmosphere with a good crowd, affordable cheap drinks. Food was hit-or-miss. When we were there we actually brought a small bag with some of our own cakes and snacks and they had no problems with that, which was nice. And while they had some board games available, we brought pushed 2 tables together and brought our own, and had a great afternoon for a few hours. 3/5 for food, 5/5 for bar atmosphere, meaning I'm already planning my next casual Sunday here. read more

Such a unique fusion of Korean and Polish foods . Changing menu but wings / homemade sausage/ and beef that are outstanding. Different veggies served and homemade hot sauce gives food a kick and unique flavor. As a native Chicagoan but retired in Florida it was a sweet treat for some unique ethnic foods. Currently sitting at the bar of Maria's (great drinks btw) after finishing a meal from Kimski that shares anterior part of the property. Being that this place is brand new I asked for a recommendation and was steered towards the scallion pancakes w/pork shoulder and I was not disappointed. The pancakes were delightfully thin and crispy (more reminiscent of a crepe) and the pork shoulder, though diced, had just the right amount of sear. The highlight though was kimchi, which had just enough of a kick to balance out the more Polish aspects of the dish. Kimski's, at the moment, only has patio season but the bar next door (Maria's) has plentiful indoor seating and a very cool ambience to add to your dining experience. Got the Maria's Standard and wasn't too happy about it. I didn't like the taste of the Kraut (super bitter) and the fries were so plain, not as advertise on yelp. The host at the register didn't greet or mention any recommendation even when I stated it was my first time here. I was only ask if I wanted ketchup or hot sauce with my fries... seriously? This place didn't have that fusion food vibe that it claims to be, and therefore that's false flaggin'. I like the idea of this being a destination place but I also like the notion of it being a hip spot for us in the neighborhood. The Polish/Korean concept is unique and expertly executed. Maria's has a special place in my heart so I'm not some sort of disgruntled customer writing a bad review. Also, Kimski's marketing team nailed what they were trying to serve up so I'm not surprised I see it on most food review sites. I enjoyed the staff, space and atmosphere of Kimski but just talking strictly food; Kimski is extremely bland, serves marginal portions, overhyped and overpriced. I've eaten at Kimski 4 separate times and in doing so, was able to try all of their regular menu items and even ordered whatever they had on special those separate days. I'd re-try a regular menu item I disliked before to give it another chance but it always resulted in disappointment. I usually left food on my plate and needed to go elsewhere (Antique Taco/Zaytune) to get filled up. It wasn't the flavor because, well, there barely was any. The Standard (tried 2x on separate occasions) was a dry sausage on a tough bun topped with mustard and chi (in kraut form) - it really just tasted like mustard and chi. Potato pancakes were soggy and often tasteless unless dipped in the condiments. After trying the pork side with the pancakes, I decided it was best to eat around that. The wangs were small portioned and with little meat on bone. Potskis weren't palatable and seemed off. The idea is there but the execution, and price for that matter, is lacking. Honestly, I tried to like Kimski several times. Even brought friends every time to try it to see if maybe I was being too harsh but they agreed that it wasn't good although they liked the decor. Unless menus or ingredients change, I won't go back for the food. read more

Overall, Kimski was pretty good. The atmosphere was cool, but if you enter through Maria's it's a little confusing that you have to go through a door that enters to the back of the cashier/kitchen to order food. There are yellow footprints on the floor to lead you, but it's still weird. The reason I didn't give them 5 stars is that it's too pricey for what it is. The pierogis and bulgogi beef were really good, but the potato pancakes were burnt. Plus, the servings are small for their price point. My son and two of my friends finally made it to Kimski and I knew what I wanted before I even got there. It was Wednesday, so I wanted the infamous Puff Daddy, which is a juicy cheeseburger with pickles, lettuce and onions that is laid in between 2 pizza puffs which serve as the bun. Upon arriving I was almost swayed by the menu to change my mind. I almost ordered Ko-Po Wangs and a pork belly bowl but I stayed strong and true to my mission and ordered the Puff Daddy. I can tell you that the Puff Daddy sounds amazing, looks amazing and tastes amazing. I was worried that it would fall apart as I ate it but it stayed intact and I devoured it along with the side of fries that came with it. My son had the sausage plate which came with two sausages and Korean sides. He ate both sausages and let me have a little taste. I enjoyed the sausage casing and the Korean sides that he didn't eat. My friends ordered pierogis, pottuine and split a Puff Daddy. They didn't talk much during dinner either as they were too busy maxing out the food that they ordered. I will be coming back and the next time I come back the Ko-Po Wangs and the pork belly bowl will be mine!!! read more

Love Maria's, but Kimski was just ok for me. That is, as a restaurant. As an additional bar / expansion of Maria's it's a good space and love the patio out back. I think if you go here with the thought of the food just being bar food to snack on while having a drink then you'll be ok, but if you go wanting to have dinner (like we did) you'll be a little disappointed (like we were). The portions are very small, between 2 we got 4 dishes and paid $35 (not including drinks) and left hungry (and had a second dinner elsewhere). The service was fast and with a smile. The food was pretty good, but not particularly memorable. Im glad I tried it once, but I probably won't be back for the food, but I'll definitely be back for drinks. read more

Standard: great polish with nice tangy mustard, buttery crispy bun. Not too greasy, just right. Potskis: crunchy, bite-sized pockets of creamy cheesy goodness. Sauce & pickled onions add a little sourness to the fried dough. Fried Rice: gooey fried egg and slightly spicy cabbage in fried rice, perfect snack-as-lunch pick. This place is great! You order up front and then head in the back with your number and order drinks and they bring your food out. Our food came back quicker than our drinks, so it was super speedy! Been here twice in the two days its been open. Its pretty much a space kitsch version of fast casual dining. The portions are small, the seating crowded, but the food is an insanely pleasant fusion of Polish, American, and Korean staples that somehow makes it all worthwhile. We just moved 400 feet from Kimski's storefront and finally was able to try it tonight. We ordered the Ko-po beef sandwich, wangs, and pierogi. We were SO pleased with each of these items! The wangs had such a great grill flavor and also an awesome, but not an overpowering sauce. The Ko-po sandwich was divine. Tender meat, soft bun, and lots of flavor. And finally the pierogi was cooked to perfection--crispy on the outside, soft and moist on the inside garnished with mushrooms and onions and other yummy stuff. We put in the carry out order, walked our dog for 10 minutes, and the order was ready. Two thumbs up--we are so happy to have such a great option right outside our door! read more

I've been looking forward to this place since it opened...and I was incredibly disappointed. First off, I asked what they would recommend as the most popular items and he just listed all of the menu items. We got the Marias standard which was a sad version of a hot dog with mustard, no Korean flavor at all. The pierogi equivalent was nothing like a pierogi and was 5 tiny pieces of over doughy egg rolls. And finally we got the Reuben special which was inedible. It came on grocery store generic bread that was barely warmed up with the absolute worst cuts of meat. I pulled off several pieces of "meat" which were just fat. And again no Korean flavor at all. The staff didn't notice when we blatantly didn't have at any of our food. Too bad since Marias is great. Definitely a skip. read more

If I found, I would give this place 3.5, but I'll round it up. Service is fine, and quick, and the food is delicious. You don't have many places like Kimski around. But the main drawback is the price. I order the wings the last time they were here, and they were amazing. But they were so tiny, and for the price, it wasn't a good cost-to-portion-to-taste ratio. If I felt like splurging and I have been drinking, I might consider it again. Otherwise I would probably pass. It's worth trying at least once though. read more
