This Thai food is mediocre at best. Coming from Houston (with many great selections), I wasn't expecting to be impressed. However, I'll do my best to fairly rate the establishment: Pros: -It is Thai food in West Texas -Their Thai tea was good (hard to mess up) Cons: -Slow, bad service (this was expected) -The green curry had quite a bit of excess oil floating on the top. The veggies were not prepared well. Overall, the curry was just meh. -Got charged more for meal than was on the menu. Their explanation was that they just haven't updated the menus yet with the new pricing. And then she asked if it was "OK to go ahead and charge the updated price". What??!? I'd HIGHLY recommend going to Thai House instead. While it might be a tad bit more expensive than here, I am under the belief that you get what you pay for. read more

Every place has an off night and I guess tonight was the night for this place. Very slow service. My wife had to send her Marathon Bowl back. They brought the dish back but did nothing but put it on the griddle to warm it up. The rice in the bowl was cold and hadn't even been warmed up when my wife sent it back. When it came back, there were shrimp tails in the bowl. Come on Popcorn! The dish was not prepared properly in the first place and it should have been redone. I ordered the Shirley Special which is my go to dish. The shrimp was rubbery and under cooked. I should have sent mine back but I wanted to get home. All in we got there about 7:30 and we left a little after 9:00. I guess the cook had a long day and wanted to go home too! read more

I ordered sesame seed chicken, pork fried rice and an egg roll. The good: egg roll and food was ready fast. The okay: was rice even though it had little flavor and tomatoes in it but still wasn't bad. The bad: egg roll was burnt on parts, the sesame chicken was just bad. read more

The food its great. I would recommend the egg rolls, they are one of the best items on the menu. As far as an entree try the kee mao. I usually get it with chicken beef and shrimp! Talk about delicious! read more

I've been eating at the King & I since they first opened, over 10 years ago. I was very impressed at first, having never had Thai food before, but then I tried Thai food in other cities and realized it's just okay. In the last 4 years or so, the food has been very inconsistent to the point that I will no longer eat here. When I order the vegetable pad thai with tofu, I always had to be explicit about the vegetables (broccoli, carrots, etc.) I wanted, otherwise they would only give me veggies half the time. The other half of the time all I got were green onions and sprouts. I have had similar inconsistencies with the quality of the tofu and the greasiness of the dish. I've had the green curry and enjoyed it. I just refuse to eat somewhere that gives me such inconsistent results. One last complaint: the last time I was in there, I was charged more than the prices shown on the menu. The cashier explained that the prices had gone up, which I understand, but I think they should have updated their menu before implementing the new pricing. Even though the economy is good, some of us are still on a budget and would like to know what we are spending before we eat! read more

So when I went in for lunch today and was finally served after half the tables that showed up after us were given their food, I was less than pleased. I went here for lunch ordered to go and this was my first time going the lady that took my order was rude not mindful that it was my first time no greeting or anything. To top that off the price for food is extremely over priced I got the lunch plate spicy beef and fried rice I ended up getting more jalapeno for my money than anything very ridiculous. Not crazy about this place. Food was mediocre, service not too bad. Restaurant is fairly clean. Bathrooms are not inside restaurant. You have to walk outside to the back of building to enter bathroom. There is an extra $1.00 charge for using a credit card to pay for your meal. solid, family-run establishment. they'll cater events as well. tasty noodle dishes (mee krob and rad na) and curries. if you know a little thai, talk to the owner and his wife cooking in the back...they'll hook you up w/ "off the menu" dishes like their green papaya salad. a little pricy for the quantity of food served, but this is W. The King & I is one of the best Thai restaurants that I've eaten in, and I've had Thai food all over Texas. Their peanut sauce is excellent,...and something a lot of less authentic Thai places don't take the time and trouble to make. I've not eaten much more than the Pad Thai, but it is right up there with the best I've ever had. Their curry's are good. Ask for their condiments, if you like extra flavors. The first time I had food from this place was when I was working at the YMCA (which is across the street). Popcorn sent some chicken fried rice over for my friend's baby shower and it was delicious! I'm not a huge fan of fried rice, but this stuff was yummy! That was a little less then 2 years ago. I now visit the place pretty often. Several weeks ago I actually went there Mon, Tue, and Wed!! I crave the sweetness of the chicken prew wan and the chicken curry is spicy, creamy, goodness in a bowl! The food is always fresh and has lots of veggies. If you're looking for the fried, processed stuff (which is sometimes just as satisfying;) this is not the place. If the food or service were bad, I'd probably find a way to gripe about the decor, but it gets no thumbs down from me. I love the non-chain atmosphere that sparkles with race medals, pictures, and life is good signs. when eating here, Life is Good. read more

This is the best Asian food in town. Consistently good, and fairly priced. Nice size servings, and if you ask for extra hot and spicy be ready to eat fire. It is a small establishment, hours on Saturday can be iffy, and it can be noisy at times, however, it is worth those aggravations. Their vegetable curry is amazing. There was a great Thai place in Odessa that closed recently. It was my favorite. I've tried a couple of others and none are up to par. This place is no exception. However, it does come the closest taste wise. If you're going to eat here, I would recommend NOT getting it to go. They have the most inefficient call-in order pick up that I've ever experienced. They have a drive-through window to pick up call in orders. There is almost always a car sitting there for an extended period of time. The first time I tried to pick up a meal there, I was told that I was going to have to wait an additional 10 minutes. They said I could wait there in the drive-through line, but that if a car pulled up behind me that I should pull forward. A car eventually pulled in behind me so I pulled out of the way to allow the car to pick up their order. However, they must not enforce that because I have sat behind cars sitting at the window for 10 minutes at least before they were given their order. This place would definitely get an extra star if they could revamp their pick up system. read more

I used to eat here all the time until I found Thai House here. I decided to try K&I again for lunch during my days off, simply because it had a drive through window. I ordered their pad thai combination. After I picked it up and got home to eat, I was very disappointed. The meat was burned, the shrimp was overdone, tough and dry. There was black crunchy stuff (?) throughout the entire dish. It was the worst food I've had in a long time and it cost me $13 for the experience. NEVER AGAIN. Mr. "POPCORN" needs to take a look at his businesses and ask himself why Thai House is PACKED at every meal and his establishment is not. read more

King and I used to be a great place to eat a great meal but things have surely changed since they decided to expand. For over 10 years we ate there several times monthly but the half cooked shrimp and warm salad I got last night was the very final straw of several disappointments over the last couple of years . Their fried rice was the best in West TX once with color, intense flavor and depth of texture - now it's the same dried out bland thing you could find at any generic Chinese fast food joint only it costs a lot more.
