My go to for Chinese. Not like the Chinese I back in Miami, Fl but does have a variety of options. Food is always good, food temperature is good and the hibachi is delicious if you don't want to eat the items from the buffet. Only wish they had coke products instead of Pepsi. I don't know WHAT I was thinking to have tried this place. Surprised the Health Department hasn't shut them down for a cold Buffett. I thought I'd try the broth and toss in a few dumplings. Dumpling were doughy, had been sitting in their own broth for way too long. Broth and dumplings were tasteless, and broth lukewarm. Not worth $33 for two people. I grew up going to this place, even when it used to be over where Kroger is. Years! I moved away for about 6 years (2015-2021) and when I came back and learned the woman who ran it had retired, I was very sad to hear that. She was an absolute sweetheart! And boy, has this place really become subpar since then. I moved back in December and I've been a few times and every time it's just so-so. The food is still good but it seems to always be out of/low in stock? And they just never fill it back up? And the dessert options are so sad. I was in there last night. I was very disappointed. It was reheated at best. Except for the fish, in places it was still ice cold. Many people have eaten raw fish but this was supposed to be cooked. It made me sick to my stomach whatever I did eat. One thing was pretty good and that was the sesame chicken. Even though I got sick they still made me pay full price they asked if I was okay. The food was warm at best and by the time you were finished, everything was cold. The food was just not good. The restaurant was not busy and our service was horrible. This is the third restaurant with the same name and the same decor I've been in and they are all in different states. It's similar down to the colors, art on the walls, etc. Maybe it's a chain. The bar was well stocked, but a couple of the items I tried were cold...but then, THEN I found the grill in the back...I chose my ingredients and the grill master cooked it up in front of me. For a Chinese style buffet, I give it three stars. I visited on a Saturday evening and there was a decent crowd there. Table service was still reasonably attentive and the food available was relatively kept fresh. As with any Chinese style buffet, some things were tasty, some things were terrible. The real star at this place is the Mongolian grill at the back, where you choose whatever you'd like prepared, and it is while you wait. ALL YOU CAN EAT BABY!!! Affordable (especially with an EKU student ID), clean (mostly), and they have a little bit of everything (sushi, apps, soup, salad, entrees, sides, desserts, etc). King Buffet is a must do if you are in Richmond Kentucky for more than three nights. Many a eating contests have taken place in this establishment. Go hungry and pace yourself! read more

Slightly better than average steam table food. Good variety with a Mongolian Grill as part of the buffet, so you can grill a steak, chicken, and put together a stir fry from a variety of ingredients. It has a large dinning room, and even when it is busy, I have never seen a wait. The decor is dated and worn, but the staff is fast and responsive. read more

Friday, July 15, 2022, was the first time I had eaten at King Buffet since before COVID. Food quality is definitely not what it used to be. The hygiene of the restaurant has always been a little iffy, as is the case with many buffets. However, when I was there a little kid was dipping "crab" out of the sautéed Shrimp and Crab. He took his fingers and picked all the shrimp off the spoon and threw it back in. When I told the manager on duty, he said, "Oh, just a little kid?" Acted as if this was no big deal and did not remove the dish of food! There is no excuse for that. The buffet was filthy and a wiping cloth was left out where anyone could touch it or cough on it. The flavor and texture of the food has taken a nose dive. Most of the dishes on the buffet were bland, contained subpar ingredients, and was *super* greasy. EVERYTHING tastes like it comes from a box. Drastic change from the way this place used to be! The interior is beginning to look run down, also. But the lack of hygiene is what did it for me. The manager on duty handled money then poured drinks and touched the glasses by the rim as he carried them to customers, or he'd handle money then touch the serving spoons on the buffet! Eat and peel shrimp was sitting on top of ice, none of it was covered. The banana pudding was dried out and crusty. Finally, I have no desire to ever again eat where booger picking little boys are permitted to run their fingers through the food, so to speak. read more

We eat here more often than we should. They have a good selection, including all my buffet favorites: chicken with broccoli, sesame chicken, mushrooms, green beans, tasty egg rolls, and the best crab rangoon I've found in the Lexington area. They keep the buffet refilled (I don't think I've ever seen them run out of anything) and it's always hot. There's plenty of seating and we've never had poor service. read more

I have a fondness for Chinese buffet, as a bias, but they have everything that one could really expect from one of these kinds of places. Don't let the delipidated minivan in the parking lot scare you away from entering the strip mall establishment. Upon entrance you will note a crowded table in the center of the dining hall full of obese, white-trash occupants spanning multiple generations consuming ungodly amounts of Mountain Dew and sesame chicken. Great granny with her oxygen and darling baby Braxley in her highchair will stare at you blankly as you make your way to the comfortable booths. The other various children associated with the stated table are making their way around the dessert station and will more than likely wind up scaling the ice-cream bunker. If you make it past that and the overwhelming amount of sweatpants paired with flip-flops worn by the patrons, the food is doggone decent. I'd recommend the hibachi in the back. Best crab rangoons around. Their dumplings (or potstickers whatever you wanna call them) are also delicious, but the dipping sauce for them is incredible. Usually dumplings come with plain old soy sauce, but this sauce is a garlicky, gingery, spicy, sweet, salty revelation for real. Made fresh in house too. read more

The first of all the food is good, not great. The biggest problem I notice was when the pans of food were emptied, it took a long time to wait for the pans of food to be refilled. It took over an hour for the white rice to be brought out after the business was already opened for business. The over all rating of the steam table I would rate would be a C+. Now on to the Grill where the cook prepared the food in front of me, the cook was nowhere to be found, it took me asking a waitress for help. Once the cook showed up, he did cook the food, but needed more seasoning, a little blah. The server was great which is the first GREAT I used since my server was on top of things. Absolutely, the worst in customer service for buffets in Richmond. Wait staff consists mostly of Chinese immigrants who have poor communication skills and come off judgmental. What steamed my won-ton, was the lazy response given when asked for help in providing cutlery to saw through the cheap cuts of beef from the grill. I had forgot to pick up a steak knife and after I sat down, I asked the waitress if she would bring me one. This lazy woman said I could pick up the steak knife at the grill. I immediately got up, paid my bill and left. I was a 12 year customer and have watched the service and quality of food decline to the point that I will never want to visit again. What gets my temper riled is, I tip and I expect my host to do more than keep a glass full so you will fill up on soda/water before food. Visit Thai Smile, Koto or China King if you have a craving for Asian food. Trust a fat guy, the service is much better. As well as, the quality of food. read more

The food here is fine. They have a spicy curry chicken that I cant get enough of. Most everything here can be found at a typical chinese buffet. Nothing special (besides the curry chicken) but overall the food never really disappoints. What certainly does disappoint is the customer service, cleanliness and decor of the place. I went in with a party of 5 and the place was pretty slow. Tables were pretty empty. There were a large group of students sitting near the front of the buffet, and the server tried to seat us all at the same table with them. This happens every single time we go here. They try to sit you down right on top of, and beside other people. I politely asked if we could possibly have a little more space and privacy at an emptier section of the restaurant, which was met with alot of resistance. I do not want to sit directly, elbow to elbow next to strangers, especially in an empty restaurant. At this point, I asked everyone if they'd like to leave and go somewhere else. Grudgingly, the server aggressively snatched up the silverware and moved us a couple of tables back. The meal was adequate. Typical chinese fare. They absolutely would not refill our drinks. I sat the empty glasses on the side of the table, and they walked past them numerous times. Finally, I caught one of the girls' attention, politely asked for a refill, and again, she aggressively snatched my glass and started ranting and raving in Chinese. Whatever. I guess she didn't have the courage to speak her insults to me in English. The decor is gross. Late 80's cafeteria. The fish pond thing up front smells like ass. They're too cheap to run the damn air conditioner in there. The service and the actual place are what's keeping me from coming back to this place. Too bad, because the food is pretty good. read more

It's overpriced ($21 for two people with one drink/one water), and the staff only refilled my drink once in 20+ minutes. They seemed almost annoyed that I agreed to a refill, and did not say anything at all when I thanked them; yet were very talkative with the older customers. If you are remotely young then you will not feel welcome here. The food was probably the worst Chinese buffet food I've ever had and I've been to a LOT of Chinese buffets. Most dishes I tried tasted off, like it was old or had been sitting in the back for awhile before being cooked. The peppered chicken actually tasted bad enough that I had to stop eating out of fear that it would make me sick -- thankfully I didn't! I also found it strange that there was almost as much American food as Chinese. Which may be a good thing depending on your preference. All in all, when I weigh the high cost, nasty food, and how unwelcome I felt there, I would say this is the worst dining experience I've had. I will definitely not be returning to King Buffet and I highly advise any first-timers to consider some place alternative -- ESPECIALLY if you are young. read more
