I don't think I would encourage people to eat in here actually, but have found this to be the best Chinese food in winchester. I showed up 2 hours before they were actually closing to grab me some orange chicken. All the chairs were on the tables and they were mopping with what seemed to be dirty water. I stood in line with 2 drunk felllows in front of me and then placed my order. The food was made quickly and there was enough for 2 people out of one order of orange chicken. The food was good. The strips of orange peel were a bit large thus bitter, but most people don't eat those like I do. It was fast and friendly service and I wouldnt mind going again. Most places look for a buffet before they eat chinese, but not this one. I hope this helps someone make up their mind on this place. read more

Yesterday my wife and I ordered by phone and picked up at the door. What would normally be a 10 minute wait for Chinese food became 45 minutes. They forgot to give me my ice tea, so I had to remind them and it seemed to be a big deal. But a check of the order ticket confirmed and I got my tea. No big deal. Then we drove home to eat. That's when we discovered that they did not include our egg rolls. Paid for but missing. Then my order of a beef meal was delivered as chicken. And the spicy hot sauce was not spicy at all. Then the chicken (not the beef I ordered) was tough to eat and to cut. And very little flavor. My wife's General Tso's chicken order was also not so tasty. We were disappointed, having waited three months to order Chinese food. Sorry for us both. read more

This has become our goto Chinese place in Winchester. Its an unassuming little strip mall kinda place with about 7 tables. A lot of take out from here. So far we've stuck to the basics of low mein, generals chicken, fried dumplings and crab rangoons. Everything has been cooked to order on each visit. read more

Great fast service. Met my expectations exactly. They are a typical Chinese restaurant delivery/takeout, but also have a sit down area. Hot and sour soup had just a little kick, shitake, white mushrooms, and tofu; solid flavor and matched what I call hot and sour soup. Crab ragoons had crab in them which was really nice. Fried wontons had the right amount of meat and were cooked properly. The kids liked the teriyaki chicken just okay. All in all very pleased to have found this on our road trip. Seattle, WA has better Chinese restaurants but this is the midwest and this was one of the best I've been to in this area of the country. read more

I went there yesterday and order 4 combo meals. None of the food was fresh, it all tasted old and reheated. The egg rolls were either fried in old grease or were old. Food is always cooked to order (note- one reviewer stated that the food she received was re-heated - I don't believe it. Food is cooked only when you order it - nothing is cooked ahead of time). It's a small little place with just a few tables but the food is always fresh, always hot and always GOOD. Great Wall is by far the best Chinese food in Winchester, and holds its own against any others in the Central KY area. When going to EKU, I used to drive out to Winchester just for some Great Wall goodness. The General Tso's combo with fried rice and an egg roll is all I ever order. Everything is made fresh to order. They roll their own egg rolls, and don't dare start cooking it until you order. They are giant too, filled with piping hot awesomeness. They go great dipped in the General Tso's sauce. Speaking of which, their General Tso's is unlike any other I've had. It's just a little bit spicy, and has a bit of sweetness to it. You get a ton of it too, along with a heaping portion of fried rice, which has nice little tender chunks of pork in it. It's easily two meals worth of food, and even with a drink, it only comes out to $9. Drinks may be the only downside to Great Wall. They don't have Ale-8 on their soda fountain. Come on, what Winchester restaurant doesn't serve Ale-8? Regardless, this place is awesome and I wish I got a change to eat here more. read more
