Best half hour drive from Eugene. On a beautiful crisp cold sunny day the winding roads and the open fields and a hillside that makes you want to sing to the music on the radio. I went on Sunday to pick up an order I placed. The Tasting Room in the main house is still closed for renovations so they were hosting on the event space. Michael whom I had met on my first visit was there as was a new manager, Bradley. There was time for some great conversation about a champagne tasting I had just been on Friday and that's how I learned that Brad was a certified sommelier who was in fact very familiar with the champagne I had been tasting. Different somms have different strengths so it was enjoyable to reflect on the champagne I have been able to taste with someone who was familiar with many of the houses, like Louis Roderer and Bereche et Fils, etc. I came to pick up several bottles of the 2018 Inscription, which was the inaugural vintage for what has now become a top award-winning wine in its category according to Wine Enthusiast. The 2022 Inscription Pinot Noir took top place out of 100 affordable wines reviewed by Wine Enthusiast. I had come across it in a Cannon Beach Tasting Room and everyone I share shared it with that night was over the moon -- abandoning their own pinots after they had tasted this one. Discovering it was King Estate, just 30 mins away, decided to purchase directly from the winery. (Though I took the last five bottles of the 2022 available, happy to report that Trader Joe's has the 2023 Inscription. I would run not walk to store up on those.) Michael poured me the Bradshaw, which I had not tasted previously. Then the Stone's Throw which I had enjoyed the most on my last visit. I decided to open a bottle of the 2018 to see how many I wanted to take home, and then decided to open a bottle of the 2022 I just purchased because I wanted to compare. I invited Tasting and response responses from both Michael and Bradley who were helpful. Ordered some truffle fries which were perfectly done, with shaved Parmesan garnish. The sun was shining and there were some beautiful photos to be taken with the gemlike ruby colors of the wines. One of the best solo afternoons I've enjoyed in the PNW in a long time. We're not true wine connoisseurs, but we thoroughly enjoyed our visit. We chose the club wine flight, which offered a great variety of wines to sample and made for a fun tasting experience. The real surprise of the visit was the carrot soup--it was absolutely outstanding and a must-order item on the menu. As we looked around the tasting room, nearly everyone seemed to be enjoying the charcuterie board with their wine. While it looked great, I couldn't help but think they were missing out by not trying the soup! Whether you're a wine expert or simply enjoy discovering new wines, this winery offers a welcoming atmosphere with friendly staff, a diverse tasting flight, and some truly delicious food. Beautiful spot outside Eugene. Worth the detour if it's a little off your route (or if you're looking for a winery in the area). We did the elite tasting and tried the charcuterie which was a perfect paring to the wine. Sat on the patio, was not busy for a weekday morning but reservations are required. The patio does have bees / hornets, which won't really bother you but are interested in the food and wine. The beauty of the estate property made it worth dealing with the bees. However, we did walk around the interior which was equally as enchanting. The tasting was great and a sommelier provided an interesting and enjoyable explanation of each. Service was very fast and helpful. Google maps took us to the first entrance upon arriving, but the main entrance is down the road about a mile (if coming from the south). This is absolutely the BEST winery in the Willamette Valley. Their facilities are fantastic. We have visited several times and the service it TOP-NOTCH. Plus their wines are amazing. I'm not a big white wine fan, but they've got some great ones. They make the best Pinot Noir and top any California wine hands down. Visit the vineyard, tasting room, and restaurant. My friend and I have recently begun trying wineries around the state and this was our favorite so far. It had the most picturesque view, best charcuterie, best service, and best tasting flight. It also had a free Tesla charger! It was a bit of a drive for me, but totally worth it. read more

The hospitality of the staff at King Estate is unparalleled! I had been wanting to visit for years and finally was able to visit. The food is exquisite as is the estate. We had a private tour and tasting and enjoyed every moment. The food in the restaurant is beautifully crafted. Everything we ate was an experience in itself. The wine list is very appropriately priced -- as the wines come straight from the winery. It's a real treat to come here and taste wine and enjoy a slice of Oregon paradise. First the good: beautiful scenery, patio, wine bar and dining area. I like it that you can make reservations for a certain time slot for on their patio for wine and optional food. (Actually, you HAVE to make reservations ). Just make sure you reserve for the seated wine tasting in the dining room and not the standing wine tasting in the tasting room, if you want to enjoy their patio. The not-so-good: service left us with a strange feeling about not-ordering-enough to get attention from our waiter. We had an Elite tasting flight and some bread with salted butter. It was the middle of an afternoon and not overly busy, but the waiter took a very long time to check on us, even longer to get us our check, and was close to dismissive when telling us about the different wines in our flight. The really not good: absurd prices. We paid $30 for a flight of 4 wines (elite flight) of 2 whites and 2 reds. Each pour being about 3 ounces or so. They have different flights to choose from, cheapest being the sparkling flight for $24 and going up from there. Now, if the wines would be extraordinary it would make sense but honestly I have had better wines for half their prices. We had a basket of bread and salted butter for $10. The charcuterie board or the cheese board were around $50 for a small assortment of cheese or meat and fruit and nuts. Really pretentious. They have always been upscale but now they have tipped the scales into the ridiculous zone, in my opinion. There are much cuter, friendlier and better wine serving wineries around Eugene/Willamette Valley. I will skip this one from now on unless things change. read more

The route from Eugene was beautiful, and driving up the hill to the estate you see a grand structure. Beautiful views of the mountains and the vineyard. I actually enjoyed the food more than the wine! The Pacific halibut was nicely seared and a good meaty cut. What made it stand out was the accompanying salmon roe foam with the tri color carrot melody and turnip. The puree was a wonderful sweet contrast to the umami from the foam. From the pictures, presentation is spot on. The tartare was good. I prefer finer chopping, the even chunks let you experience the buttery texture of the Wagu Angus combo. Served in a tonnato creamy sauce with a nice fatty addition. I like how they offer a mixed flight of red and white. I had the Elite flight. Seth explained it is not necessarily better wines, but grapes brought in off the estate. I chose it because he said it was not as heavy as the other mixed flight option. I enjoyed Anitinuum Pinot Gris most. Floral bouquet with peach notes but drank semi-dry. I feel mixed about the staff. The hostess was approachable and friendly explaining seating options. I was undecided so I took a look around before choosing. I went to the wine bar and the elderly bartender tended to paperwork while I was waiting. There was no one else around. After a full minute without a greeting, I walked away and behold he looked up. A "can I help you?" would have been appropriate but silence. I decided to take a table instead. SO glad I did. Seth was a good server with knowledge of the offerings. Nice dining room with a blazing fireplace. Two tabes overlooking the vineyard. Plenty of outdoor seating but it was a chilly day. It would have been a tranquil setting but another waiter had a booming voice. It broke the enchantment of the space. TIPS: I did leave a nice one for Seth but as for visiting... Reservations required Territorial Drive is currently being serviced so add a few extra minutes to get there. read more

Don't panic cuz the menu is organic too! Moist 3 day sour dough bread fermentation process with sesame seeds and finishing salted crust was outstanding. Desserts made in house too. With fresh baked bread and butter, we had Caesar salads with bacon chunks and house made crispy crunchy croutons. Grass fed steak from local ranchers - loved the filet mignon with a mille-feuille potato, grilled oyster mushrooms, triple cream brie and caramelized shallots. Grilled prosciutto wrapped asparagus. Yum! Yum! Sounds good - huh! Was ah-hah beyond my "expect-tastins." Simple ingredients prepared and cooked-up French style with scrumptious rich and buttery sauces that Julia Childs would die for. My hat, a lid for a bald head, tipped and off to the chef and his team and servers. Servers know how to talk-up the dishes. Alton Brown (TV chef) says "good eats!" If you have a chance to visit just one winery THIS one is THE one! Absolutely stunning beautiful château like winery. Vast and endless breathtaking views of the vines, hills, trees and flowers. We have tasted at least 8-10 different wines, the service and the knowledge of Audi and Eric was absolutely superb. Loved the wine! We were lucky to meet Mr King and have a tour of the facility! Lunch was delicious, along with a gorgeous view. I had their steak frites. The meat was very flavorful and tender. I didn't care for the side of greens due to no dressing. The fries were hot and crispy. I didn't do the flights like the rest of my group since the server told me the flights were on the drier side. So she recommended the King Estate Muscat, and it was terrific. It had floral notes and was not overly sweet. I loved it so much I had two glasses. We didn't make a reservation for their tour, but they went ahead and accommodated us, so I appreciated that. Also, one of our group members wore a tank top and shorts, but the host didn't give him a problem, so I appreciate that they aren't too strict about their dress codes and forced it on the customers. read more

I will start by saying the food was incredible. Other than that this place was one of the worst experiences I've had and not worth it. We showed up a bit early for our dinner reservation so we had a glass of wine at the bar while we waited. We checked in about 15 min early and we're still seated 20 min past our reservation time. Then we sat at the table for another 15min before water or bread was brought over. After that it was another 40 min before someone took our order, we were at the point where we were about to walk out. This was for my birthday celebration that turned sour very quickly. I would caution anyone who is trying to go here for a nice dinner. Unless maybe you look older and richer than my friends and I. We could see on their faces they thought because we are in our 20's and not dressed to the nines they thought we would not be going all out and order a lot. 5/24 (afternoon). The take away here was Are you kidding me? The drive up was so nice and upon seeing the "estate" we were really impressed with the spectacular view. It was the start to some high hopes! It wasn't clear where the entrance was but we found our way. Upon entering, I noticed immediately how dark the interior was as the receptionist was on the phone and told us she'd be right with us. It reminded me of a hotel check in. I left the husband to deal with checking in while I went to the restroom. The restroom was very nice. Upon my return he was still standing there with her on the phone while other servers were milling around. We were eventually offered the option to stand (yes stand) at the very dark empty bar, OR sit at a dinner type table behind the reception desk. I was taken back because neither had any glimpse of that view and was just so dark. It was like sitting in any generic restaurant with no connection to the outside. Once I sat down, I sank in the chair because the centers were hollowed out. My husband's chair was the same. At this point I'm wondering why we're even here. It was just a bad start and we figured this isn't the place we want to start off our weekend in Eugene. We got up and said thank you very much and promptly walked out! As we were leaving, the same receptionist was still on the phone and didn't even look up as we exited. Sorry King Estate! Take a lesson from Domaine Serine. read more

At my last visit we had very attentive table service and then we did a tasting at the bar with someone who was really exceptional about describing the wines. Great visit! read more

We made reservations for 3 to do wine tasting. It wasn't busy. We were seated, then no one came for 15 minutes. Finally, when they did check on us, it was all attitude. They kept saying they were short staffed, but I made the reservation 3 weeks prior. How did they not staff appropriately? It took another 15 minutes to get our wine. Not going back. I have dined at King Estate many times and always had a lovely experience. This week however, I left feeling ill. I ordered the salmon and requested it be cooked in anything but seed oils. Butter, olive oil, poached or baked - any of those work for me. After checking with the chef, our server told me he would not comply, that they had to use grapeseed oil. As a foodie, I knew this would impart an undesirable texture and flavor, and as a nutritionist, I didn't not want inflammatory oils. The rest of the order was already in and I was in a group so I didn't argue. Mistake. My salmon had a slimy/oily quality which lingered in my mouth and left me nauseous. I have worked in restaurants and dine out often and know cooking salmon in butter is not unreasonable, especially at the price King Estate charges (the most expensive salmon meal I have ever ordered.) Most restaurants would honor this request. It seemed rude and not in keeping with King's standards. Grapeseed oil is a cheap oil that does not impart desirable qualities in seared foods. I can only surmise the chef was more concerned about his budget than pleasing his guests. I came home feeling nauseous in part because of the heavy oil sensation, but also that a restaurant I have always respected and loved would fail to honor such a simple request. My dining companions, also frequent guests at King Estate, said their meal was not up to their usual standards, that their meals were bland and lacking flavor. The wine was great. read more

Last winery stop on our bachelorette tour of Oregon's wine country, and the views did not dissappoint! Absolutely stunning drive up to a castle like experience. We were greeted immediately and they invited us to take pictures while we waited on our table. The hostess reinforced the queens that we are by taking a group photo for us equipped with all the compliments. Once seated, some ordered wine flights while others enjoyed a bottle of muscat, hot teas or a glass of rosé. Wines were by far our favorite of the trip! We also ordered two charcuterie boards, and they did not disappoint. Also feel that these were the best of the trip and the most diverse spread of the trip. While our tastebuds and tummies were well satisfied, there were a few concerns: 1) They greeted our beautiful bride with a seemingly complimentary glass of sparkling wine, and I truly hope it was a mistake, but they charged her for the drink!!!! Who charges a bride to be for a congratulatory drink after parading it around as if it was on the house?! The audacity! 2) Service was ok. Chantal was very sweet and had awesome earrings, but our freezing friend was told she'd be brought a blanket twice and yet the blanket never arrived. When we were interested in ordering the charcuterie boards they recommended we evaluate the food menu, but that took quite a while to bring out. Maybe they were understaffed or busy and maybe we're being picky, but in an establishment such as Kings Estate there is a certain expectation. Not the same Kings Estate!! It's been about 5-7 yrs since we've been here. The food and atmosphere has always been amazing! Chef quality. My husband made reservations for my birthday and we were supposed to be a party of 5. Our kids couldn't make it due to illness so we ended up a party of 2. They gave him a very hard time for changing it. When we got here, the dining room was half empty and no one was sitting outside. When we sat down, we noticed they gave us a menu with charcuterie board, soup and salads. No lunch menu with entrees. When we asked, the server let us know that they had changed their food service to "tasting type foods" and discontinued full meals. We drove 45 min expecting lunch. We paid over $100 for a salad, fries and a small plate of croquets and two flights. Food was good but crazy expensive!! Wine was ok. It was very disappointing!! We have great memories here, but we won't be back. So sad. read more

This place is a joke! I tried for a month to make a reservation for a table of 6 and their communication was absolutely horrible. I followed their instructions about leaving voice and email messages only to have them tell me that the email address that was posted on their website was the wrong one. When they did finally try to contact me I kept hearing excuses about them being short staffed but if you're that short staffed maybe you should just close the restaurant. Their property is beautiful, the service is great (very kind, helpful and attentive) and I love their wine. It was SUCH a bummer to make a dinner reservation online, only to drive all the way out there to find that they no longer have a dinner menu. The only offerings now are bread baskets and ~$50 charcuterie boards. Don't get me wrong, I love a good charcuterie board. But when we made reservations we were doing so with the intention of having a celebratory dinner. It would have been so nice to have any sort of blurb on their website, Facebook, instagram, etc stating that they've decided to stop offering dinner service. Even having a menu of their food items on their website would have helped us avoid being disappointed upon arrival. King Estate used to be our favorite spot for special occasions and the food was incredible. We were driving by and saw a Sign said open till 5 , However, we were greeted with a "must make a weekend reservation" . We were here on a Monday and sent away. Most bizarre unfriendly , "you aren't welcome " I've experienced at a winery. After visiting other local wineries that were all fun and inviting we were really disappointed that we had to pass 3 open signs only to get told we aren't open. As we were walking out several other couples walked up and were escorted in and then the gentleman made a comment to us that they had "other arrangements previously made" I'm super sorry I hate to do bad reviews but this was just not good customer service. For almost 20 years, my husband and I have gone to King Estate for the best wine in Oregon! Also, we have Enjoyed the restaurant as long as it has been there! If you want a peak experience, go there! What a relaxing and picturesque experience from beginning to end! We had perfect weather, views, and hospitality during our visit, and I would recommend this to anyone. The drive in is quite a hike, but visiting KE made it well worth the drive. We started with a tour and tasting with wine educator Celeste. She was so very knowledgeable and personable about the winemaking process, equipment, and Pinot Noirs we tasted. She took her time and we really enjoyed chatting with her. After walking around the property a bit to kill some time before our dinner reservation and taking in the sites, we walked back towards the restaurant and the host remembered our name from earlier and had already set up a table outside for us. We didn't even make it to the host stand and she intercepted us to walk us to the table! The view from the table was phenomenal and Tassia took great care of us. We started with crab cakes, which were nice and crispy without being bread-heavy. The sauce was amazing as well. I also had some bread, which was simple, homemade, and rustic, with some delicious butter. Next, came our entrees and sides -- filet mignon and sea scallops, truffle fries and prosciutto wrapped asparagus. Everything was amazing! Bf ordered the berry cobbler to take with us, and seemed to really enjoy it. I was too full to indulge in dessert, and honestly, the food was so good I just wanted to dwell on it.
