I really appreciated that. The Inn: We always enjoy staying at King Frederik Inn. Every time we come to Solvang this is the only place we stay at! We call this place our home away from home. If I could live here I would! The staff are friendly and attentive. They make you feel like family! Breakfast: They have a small continental breakfast they provide in the mornings. It consists of pastries, coffee, tea, juices, hot chocolate and oatmeal in a cup. They also have certain snacks and drinks for sale. The room: We enjoyed the big comfortable queen size beds. The room was so comfortable and relaxing just what we needed. The room was clean and the bathroom was very clean, the towels were neatly folded with attention to details. The pool: The pool was so relaxing! We needed some pool time and we took advantage of the cool water! The Hot Tub: We really enjoyed the bubbles in this hot tub!! The temperature was hot but not too hot that you can't get it! It was great to loosen up our tight muscles from our daily work stress! The Covid-19: The Inn is Covid-19 compliant. They even sanitize your credit card and identification cards with a little sanitizer machine especially for credit cards and identification cards! Now that's what I call thorough cleaning! There's hand sanitizer stations too. The conclusion: When you visit Solvang I suggest you book your stay at King Frederik Inn. It's right smack in the middle of Solvang so everything is walking distance. You really don't need to drive around to go shopping, eating or wine tasting. Everything is that close! We really love staying here because we feel like this is our home away from home! When we want to do a quick getaway from our very hectic and stressful life in the big city we head up to Solvang! We really enjoyed the location of this hotel, it's in the middle of all the fun! When we got tired of walking around we went back to the hotel and rested. Even though it's in the middle of everything the hotel was quiet and safe. We stayed on the first level and did hear people walking but wasn't too bad. Next time we will definitely request the 2nd floor. Parking was free and we didn't struggle finding parking. The lady in the front was super kind, we arrived early and were going to ask if we could park and she went ahead and let us check in early. read more

We choose Solvang, California for the wine experience. When searching for a place to stay we came upon this this hotel. We were looking for a 2 Queen bed room, our budget was $400 night. They were $389 PN. The website photos are quite the false presentation. It gives you the idea you are staying at a clean semi upscale hotel, when in reality it was a Motel 6 at Best! Check in was seemingly easy, but the true horror began in the middle of the night. The toilet had emptied itself of water leaving it impossible to use it. My first reaction was to call front desk, but I would be risking waking up my roommate. What an inconvenience! First thing in the morning we contacted front desk asking for assistance. They responded quickly and fixed the toilet within 10 min, however when finished he decided to leave the plunger and bag right outside our door! One of the hotel amenities was a hot tub. We arrived on a Friday afternoon, after settling in we decide to check it out. Upon arrival the hot tub had obviously not been cleaned on a long time. There was brown film of soapy substance hovering over the water, and white bubbly film. Against our better judgment we decided to go in anyway. We were not in long before other people's hair was beginning to cling to our skin. When checking out we voiced our concerns with front desk, and they ensured us management would be contacting us. It has been 2 weeks since our stay and after numerous phone calls it had been determined that Nick the manager hasn't been at work and no one has the authority to rectifiy the situation. Do yourself a favor and take your money elsewhere! read more

We were harassed about our VESTED dogs no less than three times and it even became a point of contention for me because I know for a fact if dog is wearing their service vests, a business absolutely cannot continuously "Hound & Harangue. We followed the rules and we accused of leaving a sloppy room. We left the room as clean as we can each time we stay. The room issue is just a legal way to do illegal crap. This is all pathetic attempts to discriminate against people who use service animals. Don't care what any business owner vomits up when I know it's all a lie to cover up discrimination. PERIOD. END OF STORY. NOTHING a dirty business like this can convince me this isn't a snow job. That's ok, we stayed there and spent crazy money 3-4 times over the last year and now we all can find places that absolutely won't discriminate over Service Animals. read more

We chose King Frederick due to its short walk to all features and restaurants. However, our room thermostat was damaged which forced us to turn the heat on and off manually throughout the night. The dark painted furniture was scarred visibly showing white paint underneath. The bathroom floor tile grout was black with grime in the middle of the room compared to clean white grout in the corners. I've learned from past experiences that these problems are not unique to one room but are representative of the poor quality of the hotel. We'll choose a better hotel next time and walk further to the features. read more

This hotel was lovely! We stayed for just one night but it was in the heart of everything, we were able to walk to breakfast, lunch, and dinner. All of the staff was very friendly. Stayed here just for one night. The front desk worker was very kind and friendly. Easy check in and check out! We had booked to stay in a King bed room. It was actually a pretty big room too. Everything was very clean, had lots of charging outlets. There is a private parking lot for guests as well. You get access to the jacuzzi and pool from 9am - 10pm I believe. The location was absolutely perfect! We were able to walk to literally everything we wanted to checkout and it would only be like a 5 minute walk. The only reason for 4/5 stars is because our smoke detector went off around 3am twice and woke us up. Then it's a little freaky because you could hear when people were opening their doors but it would sound like they were trying to get into yours. I think the key card machine is just really loud and the doors are heavy. Overall though, for us this hotel was perfect! read more

I recently spent 2 weekday nights at the inn. Room was clean and large. I was in a room with 2 queen beds. Location was great being in the village with many places within walking distance. The hotel is very tired. No HD on the room Tv! Wow, that's cave man time! The pool jacuzzi was not working on our visit! The wifi was non existent! Their answer to us was " turn your phone off". Still no wifi. Their phone system was difficult with all types of buttons to get the front desk! None of them worked until we hit zero! The toilet seat was a joke! Small thin plastic seat! King Frederick needs to rise from the dead to improve on this property. Upon arriving and leaving several employees were smoking less than 20-30 feet from our room, number 111 . I really wanted to love this place. Last minute trip to solvang and this was one of the only hotels available the day of. It's Labor Day weekend. The front staff gentleman was really nice. He was really welcoming when he greeted us at check in. They offer light breakfast and coffee at the front desk in the morning 7a-10am. One of the previous yelpers said the walls were thin. Boy they weren't kidding! Before 7am, I was literally woken up by a couple doing their adult business. I won't get specific, but we heard it all. These walls are paper thin! I'm just glad they didn't wake my kid up! My son was later woken up by what I assumed was housekeeping because I could hear the ladies talking in the background on the other end. My son was taking a nap and the ringing of the phone woke him up. If y'all have kids, you know how annoyed you'd be by this! Well anyway, the housekeepers didn't say anything on the other end. I kept saying hello and no one answered Probably called on accident. Parking isn't great here and the rooms are old and dingy and definitely not worth the price. The hotel is centrally located in Solvang, which was key. Check-in was handled really well, they have this cool little gadget that sanitizes your room key and credit card after they run it. The rooms are definitely on the old-fashioned side and small and they're packed pretty close together. There seemed to be a larger group that booked a bunch of rooms but they weren't together so hearing a bunch of loud voices yell back and forth down the breezeway was on the annoying side. The walls are pretty thin too, I was lying in bed and could hear some of the 'nocturnal activities' from next door. But if you're going to stay overnight, the rooms are clean and the location is good. read more

This lovely little gem packs a lot of value. The room was clean. Even though it's right on the main road, the room itself is very quiet. It is walking distance to the entire town, this may be my absolute favorite part. It was so nice to park the car and forget it, and just go explore this lovely town. This hotel looks well-kept and very clean. Also this room has the biggest television I've ever seen in a hotel room, loved that. The breakfast in the morning was ready and quite delicious. We just returned from our stay at King Fredrick Inn. I am giving this hotel/motel 5 stars, even though there are some negatives. Read the whole review and decide for yourself. Location can't be beat! literally in the center of everything! A 5 min walk to just about everything! Free parking, and plenty of spots. Staff is excellent! Over and beyond type of excellent. Very friendly and helpful. Cleanliness - our room was clean! I'm weird about that, and no complaints there. Room itself- it's old, the bldg is old, the A/C is noisy (and our thermostat didn't seem to be working. The TV is low quality. The bed was comfortable, the furniture was fine. The bathroom had plenty of countertops, and he water pressure in the shower was decent. For the price, I cant complain! We were comfortable and enjoyed our stay. Negatives (other than the noisy A/C) is that you can hear everything outside and in the rooms surrounding you. We had nice quiet neighbors the first night but then the loudest people on earth checked in. They talked very loud, laughed very loud, all night long! We were by the pool and from 9am until 10pm there were kids in the pool screaming! I get that the other guests are not the fault of the hotel and I am not docking stars for that, just want you to be aware of it. So it was not the most relaxing stay, but we enjoyed it and it appeared that the hotel is well cared for. We checked out early so who knows how the 3rd night would been. I would stay there again, but maybe only mid-week. read more

We stayed at this motel on February 21. We were appalled to find a long women's hair under the bed pillow on the sheet. My wife has very short hair so we knew the hair was not from us . In addition next to the bed pillow where it meets the sheet was a blue stain which we could not identify. We took pictures of both items and showed them to the office when we checked out. The lady in the office was most apologetic and assured us that she would show the pictures to the manager and he would call us. We are still waiting for our phone to ring. We are amazed that this business would just ignore such a significant problem let alone do nothing about it. Needles to say we will not be staying there ever again. read more

We had a last-minute trip during the holidays and the rate was well over $300 because it was one of the last rooms available in town. Theroom had a funky smell and we found out why the next morning. It was because the shower drain was clogged. They did nothing about it. In fact the lady at the counter when I told her it was very dismissive and told me I should've called them and they would've had a plumber Come fix it. I explained to her we didn't know it was clogged until just before check out because we slept in. I don't know what I expected, but at least an apology would have helped. I would never stay here just because they are rude. I spoke to the manager through text a few times. He offered half of my money back for the room, but denied it at the last minute. Take warning: DONT STAY HERE!!!! Booked this hotel online. Power went out so they couldnt find our reservation. I had to make a new reservation at the hotel itself upon arrival they claim i made the wrong date. The price increased from $97/night (online) to $180/night! Ridiculous! Make sure the staff also tell you the pool/hot tub requires a reservation! Otherwise, youll try and swim and be told no. For $180/night and two rooms ($360) its NOT worth it. Stay somewhere else that has integrity! And softer beds! In response to the manager Your apology means NOTHING! Your rooms are NEVER that expensive!even on a friday or saturday night! If you cant even accept accountability as a manager, than that says more about your business! At most, your hotels are $117/night.... i stand by my precious statement CROOKS! A good company would honor the price and refund my card rather than rebuttle on a message forum. You and I both know, your hotel is never that expensive and it definitely isnt worth that price! We were never told about reserving the pool and several times my children said lets get in the pool! It took 20 minutes to check in... and when we did Power was already restored. I went expecting a not a good experience at the King Frederick Inn because of the low cost but since it was only for one night I booked. When we arrived there was a note in the room that ear plugs were available because of noise issues. It was noisy when we arrived but so quiet during the night. Room was clean, pool and spa were really nice and the location was in the heart of Solvang. Breakfast pastries were excellent. I would stay here again, a good value for the cost of a stay. read more

Cute cute hotel! I have been road tripping for the last week up Northern California and this has been the cutest and the cheapest place! I am in room 222 and it has everything you need. The colors are perfect (soft green paint, the perfect tone of wood and tasteful light fixtures. The room contains a flat screen tv, microwave, coffee maker and mini fridge. There is a heated pool and jacuzzi with breakfast served in the office. The location is perfect too as EVERYTHING is walking distance: shopping, restaurants, fast food and lots of wine tasting.
