We stayed here for 1 night on New Year's Day and it was great. The room was spacious enough, clean, comfortable bed and decent pillows. We had issues with our tv and they offered us a different room right next door with a working one. The staff at check in, maintenance and housekeeping were all very friendly. We didn't really use any of the amenities as it was raining that entire weekend but theres a small pool, jacuzzi and and heated seating area. You also get free continental breakfast across the street and the Olsen's bakery which my family really appreciated. Overall, we would stay here again. read more

This place never disappoints us... For probably the best rate in Solvang, you get a clean comfortable room. Showers have always had plenty of hot water. Mattresses and linens are good. Pros: it was clean, the outside was cute, he room had a refrigerator and microwave, they provided sufficient towels, hairdryer, iron and the bed was fairly comfortable. Cons: for the price, it was very minimal. Only thing they provided was soap, shampoo, and conditioner. Hand lotion would've been nice. Breakfast: some complained about the breakfast, we however enjoyed it. I'll start with this: our room was clean and newly updated. The vouchers for free breakfast at Olsen Bakery across the street were nice. The location was great. And those are the ONLY reasons for two stars. Here are the remaining important details from our stay: I've been traveling to Solvang since I was a kid. It's always been a memorable and nostalgic place for me. I like to stay at different locations when I travel to get a feel for different establishments, and see the town from new angles. This was my first time booking a room here. The room was tiny, the "queen bed" was actually a "full" and extremely uncomfortable. The AC worked great until...THE POWER WENT OUT. The young man who worked the front desk handled all of us disgruntled patrons with grace...so this message is NOT for him, it's for the owners of the business. I learned from a local hotel that these power outages happen EVERY YEAR. Even the city lights, restaurants, cell phone towers and stop lights were out. The food we had was slowly spoiling in the mini fridge, and the tiny room became a furnace. I am six months pregnant and the heatwave was absolutely unbearable. What could the Solvang Inn and Cottages have done about it? Let me tell you. We learned from MULTIPLE local businesses that this should be an expected at this point. Like I mentioned, this apparently happens every year. So, the businesses who care buy back up generators. Several establishments in town have them on deck for this exact event. In fact, it is so anticipated, that the hotel carries glow sticks so you can somewhat see while cooking in your room. Picture attached. We literally had to drive around, and eventually leave town for our cell phones to work, and to frantically look for places with AC, and back up generators. According to California state law, it's illegal to charge people any amount of money if you cannot comply with providing habitable conditions. Via Google: "occupants have a right to habitable hotel conditions, which means the hotel must comply with state and local housing and health codes, including providing essential utilities, proper sanitation, structural soundness, and safety. If these conditions are violated in California, occupants can document the issues, contact local housing or health authorities, or seek legal assistance from tenant rights groups or lawyers to pursue remedies like demanding repairs, withholding rent, or even breaking the agreement. What are Habitable Conditions? Habitability is a legal standard that requires a rental unit to be fit for human occupancy. In a hotel setting, this generally includes: Essential Utilities: Functioning plumbing, heating (especially in cold climates), and electricity." I left our contact information and we have not heard a peep from anyone. Lesson learned. If you plan to go to Solvang during a heatwave, do your homework and ONLY book a room where they care enough to have a generator, such as the Vinland, and many more. Very organized and good amount of space of a room we had an outdoor patio area next to our room and the pool area was very clean. Love that they are dog friendly and provide a pastry breakfast right across the street. Staff was friendly and helpful the only thing was that our room had a little bit of an ant problem but it wasn't a big issue. Hotel also has a mini fridge and microwave. The Solvang Inn and Cottages motel is an inexpensive option if planning a stay in this quant Danish-themed town. Our room was clean and included amenities such as a refrigerator, microwave, hair dryer, free wifi, a coffee maker, and even a daily voucher for a continental breakfast at Olsen's Danish Bakery across the street. Let me begin by noting that we were pleasantly surprised at the site's general condition. Based on its price, we figured our accommodations would be older (and the room was dated by a popcorn ceiling), but the two-bed room we booked was spacious and well maintained with plenty of moving space for my wife's mobility scooter and a tiled step-in shower with good water pressure. The gentleman at the check-in desk was pleasant and courteous - and he even came out to assist me after checking us in. We were able to park right in front of our room - and additional weekday parking was available on site when my brother joined us the next day. Also, the room cleaning service was thorough and left fresh towels despite the fact that we hung our originals up after our morning showers. There's a small pool and gated common area, including a shaded canopy with seating, in the central courtyard. Additionally, though on the western entrance to the town, it's within walking distance to all the shop's restaurants, and local attractions that help define Solvang as both an eating and shopping destination. I'm not sure what the cottages are like (obviously larger), but I can assure you that our motel room with a hit with all of our occupants. Next time we come to Solvang for a visit, we'll happily return to the Solvang Inn and Cottages for another stay! read more

First time staying here as we were staying 2 nights. The first room we were assigned, we found an ant infestation in the room in talking to the front desk - she was fantastic - was very apologists and moved us to a nice one of their cottages which was very nice. It was quiet, except the other cottage tended to be load but wasn't enough to get overly annoyed. The continental breakfast at Olsen's Bakery was fantastic. The bed could have been better and there was a lack of water pressure in the shower that should be addressed. read more

The pictures make this place look a lot better than what it truly is. I was disappointed with this place. Let's see, where should I start? For one, the A/C is terrible. It won't set the temperature below 60 F and when you do, the unit turns on and off for about 10 - 15 seconds at a time. Imagine trying to sleep through that noise all night! On and Off, On and Off. The room never got cold and we (wife and I) kept rolling around the bed and taking off the comforter because it was to warm then too cold when the cold air blast would hit you for the 15 seconds. Two, the bed was extremely hard and uncomfortable. Never found the sweet spot. Three, the place looks a little on the ghettoish side. We didn't get good, safe vibes when we arrived. Four, You can hear every conversation of the people walking right outside your room. It's more of a motel than a hotel. You know, rooms that all face the outside with the common outside walkway (See picture). The most painful part of it was that they charged us over $270 for one night. The good: I arrived early and asked if I could park and was told yes but could also check in (about 1 pm). Later when I asked to move rooms it was handled quickly with no difficulty. Breakfast included from one of the Solvang bakeries across the street, that was yummy. Rooms are clean and large sized, comfortable bed. The bad: if you are placed in the smaller section next to the main building, there is virtually no parking and it's very very tight. Even with car cameras someone had to help me out and I witnessed another have the same issue. Also I was in the very front room where all the tourists and street noise is (hence my asking to move). My new room had a plumbing issue that was workable since I had already moved, but not great. read more

Drove 5 hours to Solvang, CA because the wife saw it on T.V and wanted to check it out. After driving that long we had to spend the night since I didn't want to deal with more driving. Checked in at 3pm and room wasn't ready, but they moved me to another. Room was nicely updated inside. PROS: Clean in room, bathroom seemed clean, and got the job done for a one night stay. Gave complimentary cookies upon checking and a voucher for free breakfast at the place across the street. Good location to most places to see. CONS: two-ply toilet paper like card board, no liquid soap (only bar soap), no couch in room, and a weird layout. I would probably try place again. read more

We decided to stay here while in the town for the weekend. It's located at the end of the main strip but since it's a small town anyway, everything is centrally located. The place is fairly minimal but the price was decent. I would compare it to a premium Motel 6. They do offer vouchers to get a continental breakfast at the bakery across the street. This nice small motel was clean and offered inexpensive rooms. It was perfect for a quick stay. They also provide a free continental breakfast each day of your stay at Olsen's Bakery just across the street. The danish, roll, orange juice and coffee is a nice morning treat. I like that it is located on one of the ends of the town, so it is not overly crowded around the motel. Shops and neighboring Solvang streets are easily walked from motel. read more

This place is so cute! It's right off the Main Street of Solvang as you drive in. We were checked in by the friendliest woman ever. She even gave us complimentary butter cookies and a map of the town. We stayed in a small private cottage rather than a room in the main hotel. The decor may seem a little outdated but everything worked perfectly and was very clean. It was close to everything so we parked near our cottage and walked everywhere. 100% would stay again. read more

So cute! I'm so lucky to have someone treat me to stay here! We walked by as this cottage was being cleaned and it had a kitchenette and fireplace and it caught our eye. We called and asked about pricing and it was available for about $50 more than our current place down the street that was basically a motel room. The place was so nice that we ditched our plans to go to Santa Barbara and just relaxed more and explored Solvang again. The cookies started our stay with a cheery welcome! The breakfast is cool, too. The voucher is nice because it works all day! This was convenient and appreciated especially when compared to the place down the street which offered free breakfast in the lobby, but the lobby was closed for at least 45 minutes around 9am! We didn't use the voucher since the line was long in the morning and we wanted eggs, but next time we know we can use it as a mid afternoon snack :) This is a cottage so we got more privacy with parking right in front of our door see our car and we only had one neighbor as well.. The one big complaint was the bath tub stopper didn't work, so I couldn't enjoy a bath on our relaxing day in Solvang. read more

Solvang town is very pretty and well known for its wind mills. We went there for a long weekend hoping to stay the night but couldn't even get a reservation when we arrived. Eventually at 10 pm I called this place and they surprisingly had a cancellation so we were able to stay. We got a king room. The place is huge with a lot of parking, so you don't have to be concerned about parking your car on street. The room is very clean, I got a road side room looking over the Olsens Bakery. The room is equipped with a coffee maker, TV, a dining table, a small fridge (I think). I really enjoyed my stay here even though it was just a few hours for the night. They give a breakfast coupon for the Olsen bakery and you are eligible for a Danish pastry, a bread bun with cheese and jam, and one beverage very small orange juice, or coffee or tea or milk. read more

We stayed in the deluxe king suite which was its own cottage. At first glance I was charmed and in love. Your own parking and privacy with streaming lights outlining the cottage!?!? The floors seem new and nicely done and there is plenty of space for a crib (which we brought for our 18monther) and a playmat and toys etc. But upon closer inspection, I don't think I would stay here again. Pros: - spacious - comes with dishes (plates, bowls, pans, dish soap) - the fridge has a freezer (both small but convenient) - decent price at $270 per night when we stayed on a Friday night - fairly clean (minus the ants) - great location - sort of complimentary breakfast (which we didn't get to use because the bakery line was so long by 10am) Cons: (in no particular order) - the t.v remote controls the cable-box but when you turn on the tv it shows apps like netflix... which are not assessable on this remote. Why do they have a t.v you can't fully utilize? - no blackout curtains - ants found sporadically everywhere. (Bathroom, kitchen floor, our bed, and the playmat we brought had 10 :(!) - we could hear the neighbors stomping (walking) and closing doors and they finally went to bed at about 11pm. We put our toddler down around 830pm so it was a constant worry if they would wake him. (Noise machine= win) - the bathroom door was super creaky and opened by itself. We had to either leave it open or closed and couldn't leave it ajar - our bedroom smelled a little like pee and was musty :(. - the air conditioner in the bedroom is super loud. We ended up turning it off at night to sleep. - the air conditioner in the main room is also noisy. Freezing right in front of it but it did decent at spreading the cool throughout the room. - old furniture throughout with oddly placed lamps/lighting The smell of our bedroom and the ants were a dealbreaker for me. A couple of ants ok, but in total there were more than I wanted to count. We loved the look of this place initially, but one night was enough for us! read more

This is a no frills motel in an excellent location right on the main drag, which made it easy to walk everywhere. Best part is the complimentary breakfast across the street at Olsen's Danish Village Bakery which including a roll, havarti cheese, butter & jam, your choice of pastry, coffee, tea or milk, and an orange juice. Property has free onsite parking and a pool and hot tub. Bed was very uncomfortable and walls were paper thin. It was clean though. Check in was easy and they give you a bag of cookies. read more

When i inquired about a veteran discount, I was told they did not offer one but discounted the room by $5 for the 1st night. I thought that was very nice as it is not their policy. The continental breakfast included by Olsens bakery is over the top. I appreciate that you can get it anytime during the day from 7 am to 6 pm. The hot tub was a perfect way to end each day. The mattresses are way out dated bumps groves sink holes ect and no curtains on the window!!!! the outside light is right outside ur window not to mention a string of bright Christmas lights that are there year round u do how ever have blinds but it's just not enough!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I couldn't take it anymore so after Tossing and turning for three hours I requested a refund at 1:30am in the morning and left!!!! The lights are so bright there's isn't a difference between the day and night in the room and if you're like me I need a great nights sleep!!
