Cute cute hotel! I have been road tripping for the last week up Northern California and this has been the cutest and the cheapest place! I am in room 222 and it has everything you need. The colors are perfect (soft green paint, the perfect tone of wood and tasteful light fixtures. The room contains a flat screen tv, microwave, coffee maker and mini fridge. There is a heated pool and jacuzzi with breakfast served in the office. The location is perfect too as EVERYTHING is walking distance: shopping, restaurants, fast food and lots of wine tasting. I seriously recommend this hotel. It is very affordable and cozy. read more

My friends and I stayed at the King Frederik Inn during a recent trip to Solvang, and I thought it was a decent place. I can't comment on the check-in/checkout process (my friend handled that directly since she had made the reservation), but my brief interaction with hotel staff during the stay was friendly. The space was what I expected for a 2-star hotel. The bed was clean and comfortable though one of the room chairs had very noticeable stains. I slept well, but there was a lot of noise transfer from the other rooms (primarily from the front door-it sounded like people were trying to open my door when they were trying to open their own room doors). The location of the hotel is prime given its proximity to many Solvang sites. I ended up staying their during a time when there were many visitors to town, so the rooms were priced higher due to the demand. While I feel like I overpaid for the room quality, I think King Frederik Inn would be a better price value during off-peak times. read more

Great location in the middle of Solvang. Ebony was personable and helpful. Very kind. The guy working on Thursday night, June 29 was not helpful and seemed lazy. We got locked out because our keys were not working and didn't offer to help us.... Two ladies alone at 11 pm at night and our keys weren't working. We had carried up heavy things to our hotel room and said we had to come back down to get new keys. Had a great 2 night stay at the King Frederick...We had a King room in one of the renovated rooms with wooden floors...Plenty of free Parking and had a free breakfast at the lobby with plenty of Danish and muffins to choose from. The lobby attendant woman was so warm and friendly. Even suggested some Olive tasting options for me and my wife. The room walls are a little thin, but we didn't mind. I recently stayed at King Frederik and was very unhappy with the inn itself. The room they put me in was directly next to the garbage. I was woken up at 6 AM to an incredibly loud truck that even slammed the garbage into the side of the wall which shook the entire room. I was hoping to sleep in a little since I don't get to due to work and I couldn't even do that. I also found an open box of cigarettes in my nightstand next to the bible! That alone showed me the cleanliness of the room which did not make me feel comfortable at all! It's unfortunate because this inn is actually in a absolutely perfect location within the village. The cleanliness and horrible location within the Inn though really changed my experience completely...which is very unfortunate because I was really looking forward to this vacation. read more

I travel often and have never contracted Scabies or Bed bugs in my life, until I stayed in this hotel(room 123). I checked in on a Thursday, and on the first day I noticed that the room wasn't very "well cleaned,"from the dirty drapes, to the pubes found all over the bathroom. The bed had white sheets that had a few black specks, and when I put the specks in my hand to examine further, I dismissed it because it looked like fuzz. The bed was adorned with blue throw pillows and a runner to match that looks like it hasn't been changed out in years. After the first night, I had a bite near my bicep, the second night was my buttock, and after my last night, I had 4 more bites on my breast, inner and outer thigh and my foot. Now I'm back home and I can't stop itching. The cleanliness of the room need to be further investigated. Poor management and oversight creates issues like these. The concern lies if this situation spreads into my home, family and pets causing my home to be treated. Pros: While I did not bring this up to the front desk thinking I must've been bitten by something else, I have to say the customer service from Michael was excellent. He provided us with recommendations on where to eat and was very helpful. He was very courteous, accommodating and provided us with directions on where to visit throughout Solvang. The room was pretty generic 1960s motel. The breakfast was advertised as a "Full English Breakfast", which includes cereal, bacon/ham, sausage, toast, eggs, jam, tea and or coffee and often beans and/or mushrooms. What was actually provided was very generic "danish pastries" like you would get packaged from a cheap grocery, not buttery like proper "danishes" and some small yogurt. The breakfast area itself was about 1/10th the size needed even on our middle of the weekday trip, I can't imagine how crowded it would be on a weekend. When we arrived, a guest was reporting damage done to his car (a Tesla) in the parking lot, he had dashboard video, and the desk person ID'd one of their employee's cars as the one the damage was done by . We complained about the breakfast to the manager who admittedly "Didn't know what a full English Breakfast was, he thought it sounded posh and European when he put it in the listing". We asked him for a partial refund due to the breakfast, since my wife can handle sweets for breakfast and needs protein, and he went on that since we went through Booking.com it would be difficult but could give us 20% off a future stay. We told him to figure out a way. We called back a few times and just gave up. I will say that he did remove "full English Breakfast" from the listing, once we showed him a picture of what a REAL "Full English Breakfast" was. I stayed here with my friend on the way back from a roadtrip along the coast hwy. This hotel was unfortunately the very worst of our trip. I booked this hotel from the photos of the rooms (bright, airy and clean) and the proximity to the pool, which we got neither. Upon checking in I asked for a ground floor room, but they said none were available, so okay, whatever, but the room we got was the worst in the whole hotel. Upstairs, no elevator, corner room with only two windows so high and small it fell like a jail cell, no natural light at all. I asked to change rooms but of. course they said sorry, we're fully booked. Right. Give me a break. If you decide to book a room here, don't let them give you a corner room. Not good. I had no idea how this hotel would be at the time of booking the rooms, however it was all good and pleasant once I checked in. Located right in the middle of this little town, with a great customer service and a warm welcome. The parking has access to both the roads (Mission and Copenhagen). I did not have to drive anywhere once parked the car. The lobby and coffee area is pretty little but wouldn't do any better if it's big. Breakfast from 7am-10am serves Danish pastries, apple and orange juice, coffee, bread/butter. That was good enough to kickstart the day. Rooms are decent with everything of need, and there was also a mini refrigerator and an oven. A few things can be upgraded especially the tiny little commodes in the bathroom. read more

DO NOT STAY There. We have stayed there 3 times. Last time Oct 2nd 10/5/2022 was terrible. The Fridge has a loud hum ( we has to unplug it finally) so keeping our food cold was not an option. Then two of the three nights we were there we heard a constant thumping noise and had to to the office to get it to stop not sure what caused but they turned something off. The Maintenance guy was beyond rude. We Expressed our frustration to Ebony and could tell this was not the first complaint about the site maintenance guy. It seemed our satisfaction was not important to them. The first two times we stayed it was okay not great but a good value this was a BAD experience . My husband and I came here to be closer to the center of town and found it to be very nice place to stay. The staff (Mark) was very nice and another handy man, name unknown were exceptional. It's an old hotel but they try to keep the standards up to par! We came for Wheels and Windmills Fall Classic which also amazing. Restaurants are tasty and have some special danish specialties. This hotel is nice. It's located in the middle of downtown Solvang, so it's conveniently next to all the stores & restaurants. My room was big enough. It had a fridge, microwave, & two beds. The service was good too. The only things I didn't like: the heater was way too loud, all my pillows felt stiff, & there was a cracker crumb near my bed that staff didn't notice. A great inn after a 7 hour long drive. Me and my immediate family got here this past Sunday July 11, to see the city of Solvang California. It was a very long trip for we took our sweet time getting here and we got here at around 9:00pm Sunday. We checked in...dropped our luggage then proceeded to head to the Solvang Brewery about a block away for some beers and dinner. We came back around 11:00pm and we settled in. I headed out to the front desk at around 7:00am the following day and to my surprise...they have a complimentary continental breakfast complete with oatmeal coffee Danish pastries and all the coffee you want to drink. We checked out at 11:00am and headed out to get breakfast. All I can say about this Inn is that it's a 3 star Inn very clean & well lit complete with TV WiFi. Very friendly and accommodating front desk for anything else you need. This Inn is highly recommended! read more

We usually like staying here, but this time around made me a bit iffy. So when we got there I went to put our bags in the closet, and notice a a small worm looking bug along the bottom of the closet so my husband smashed it, threw it away. Then I notice on the wall near the closet and light switches to the bathroom dried up boogers. Then I went to blow dry my hair the outlet u set the blow dryer didn't work at all. The area of the hotel is great since it's right near all the shops. Maybe we will try something new next time. read more

My wife and I stayed here the weekend of July 1st and absolutely enjoyed our visit in this historic hotel. Ebony and Karen were very kind and accommodating when we were checking in and getting settled into our room. They even recommended some great places and sites to see. The room was spacious, clean, plenty of amenities available and right in the Heart of Downtown! Nick and Mario were also just as great. We checked in 5/2/22. It was quick and the receptionist pleasant. The room was clean, quiet and spacious. It is in the heart of Solvang on Copenhagen Dr. As usual I charged my smart phone on the on the room desk overnight. We checked out the next day did some wine tasting and visited Pismo. When we got home, I'm positive that I left my charger & cable in the hotel room #216. I called the front desk the next day about the missing charger/cable and left my phone number with the clerk. A week later I waiting to hear from King Frederik Inn. I'm glad the cleaning staff got a free iphone charger. This could have been a 4+ star review, however this poisons the well for rewarding cleaning staff for a job well done! read more

I was there for a half marathon that started at 7:00 a.m., as were many staying at the motel. When I asked why the breakfast was not served earlier than 7:00 in light of the half marathon, I was given a puzzling look and told "we serve breakfast at 7:00 every morning." Ah, ok. There is a liquor store across the street that closes at midnight, which was perfect for us, for a midnight cap. In the morning you could hear construction going on across the street, but other than that it was a really nice place to stay. They have a small complimentary breakfast in the lobby. I agree with Ali Q to some extent. This hotel is cheap, convenient, and right in the heart of Solvang. What better location could you ask for? We were able to leave our cars parked and do a proper tour of Solvang and experience all it had to offer. We just wish we had better lodging. Our room literally felt like a cell, I kid you not. We arrived in separate cars and they were only able to guarantee the safety of one. We have never had this issue at other Best Westerns so this was a surprise. The early check out time at 11AM was a surprise too. Or else we'd be automatically charged for another day! Give us a break, would you? Our cell-like room came with paper thin walls, a pedestal sink (high maintenance ladies beware - there is no room for your makeup here), a soap dispenser (no cute little bottles for souvenirs), bathroom lights on a timer (conserving energy and going green?), two pillows on the bed at most (most places stock you up with more than you care for), and two small windows above the sink area and in the bathroom - forget about having a pitch black room to sleep in or getting any sleep at all. The room was adjacent to the parking lot and right off the 246. No only did we have the street light to keep us awake but all the traffic as well and when we finally did get some shut eye, the early morning sun was just as cruel as any rooster. Other than that, I had some problems finding an electrical outlet for my phone charger and the notebook computer we had and the frat party next door kept us awake and entertained as well. Overall, I really liked the fact that we were right in the heart of the downtown area and it was easy to get around. However, that convenience and cheap fare won't bring us back anytime soon. There are far better choices in Solvang that provide a great level of comfort but might be a little out of the way and require some exercise but that's great for us. We need some excuse to burn off all desserts this town offers in great abundance! read more

Construction going on in the parking lot and hotel failed to disclose upon reservation. Rooms are unsafe without smoke detectors and CO detectors very big hazard for people staying there. Parking is limited and if you go on weekends late you will end up having to park on the street. This is in a great central location. Roda at the front desk was capable and friendly. However, our room had urine soaked into the carpet. They sent someone to clean it up, but when we talked to them about it the next day, they basically said they did everything they could. Nope. There was urine on the floor, just repeating. The manager was supposed to call me. Never did. No customer service discount. No checking in. So...I would highly reccomend staying somewhere else. I mean there was (just going to say it again) urine on the floor and the way they handled that was not great. Also, the rooms don't look like the pictures. Now, I'll be curious to see if they respond to this in a better way than they responded to me in person. read more

We were a party of three people who stayed here on 9/15 and 9/16 2021. The good: It's in a great location; right in the middle of Solvang. Easy walk to all the sights, shops, restaurants. We had a first floor room with a sliding door out to the pool area and we had just enough room to sit in three patio chairs while drinking a glass of wine. The beds were very comfy, although rather tall. The pillows weren't the best but there were plenty of them; 4 on each of the two queen size beds. The office staff were very nice, friendly and attentive. It was a bit warm during our visit and the A/C worked very well if a bit noisy. No bed bugs, thank goodness. Thanks to my late husband who worked in pest control for many years, I know how to do an inspection. The towels were nice and fluffy and plentiful. Plenty of parking and there's a small, fee-free public parking lot next door. The not so good: The walls are thin so if you have noisy neighbors with a bunch of loud kids or neighbors above who whose hobby is dragging chairs all round the room it can be frustrating. The lights switches are in strange places. The bathroom could use some hooks or another towel rack to hang towels or clothes. There's a small refrigerator but it didn't work very well; wasn't cold enough. The room was a bit too small for two queen beds. I wish the bathroom sink was a little larger. All in all, we thought it was a nice place to stay. The good things far outweigh the not so good. We'd stay here again when visiting Solvang. read more

I've been coming to Solvang as a little kid growing up with my Family. Now as a grown adult, I'm bringing my own Family here and we absolutely love it! It's almost starting to become our tradition to come during the holidays! Rooms are nice and staff is super friendly! They have fresh pastries in the morning and overall it's a great place to stay! Stayed here for 4 nights on a wine tour. Perfect location and the room was very nice, clean and looks to be recently remodeled. The fresh pastries every morning from Olsen's bakery across the street was a bonus as well. I'd have given it 5 starts except for the last night we were there, which was a weekend, other guests were loud for a long time in the pool area, which can be heard by pretty much every room. You know the type, douchebag hipsters that think everything is a rave and everyone wants to hear their music. I total get there is an entire generation of assholes out there in this World who don't have a clue, but the management didn't seem to care to do anything to tell them to keep it quiet.
