TAKEOUT REVIEW: Last…read moreThursday, I placed a takeout order for a small group lunch at noon. I arrived a few minutes before the tavern opened, and waited with another customer at the door. The front house were friendly when letting us inside and with handling orders. They use handheld point of sale devices for orders, and then you wait by the bar area for ring up. Reminder: CASH ONLY. I was ready. The lady who rang me up and handed me my pies asked if I needed plates and napkins, which was nice. We had stuff so I just took the pies and headed out. The pizza was a hit at lunch! I ordered one large plain and one large with 1/2 mini meatball and 1/2 homemade sliced meatball. This was my first time trying their meatball slices and I'd say it's now one of my favorites. I like the sliced homemade meatball a lot. Really good!

Besides the great pizza, the staff were super friendly and didn't even make us pay when we got our food. A rarity these days and, in some ways, sort of a throwback to old pizza shops, but we paid after we ate. In an odd way, it made me feel good about being here - like reliving my past days roaming around the outer NYC boroughs and grabbing a quick slice at a shop.
