I absolutely love King's Ransom! The atmosphere is really dope. It is definitely hard to find as it is in a pizza shop. I went there with one of my friends and we really enjoyed ourselves. It is a nice quiet, hidden speak easy with great vibes. The service was impeccable. The bartender was very friendly and attentive. She gave great suggestions for drinks. We decided on a sour. Which was whisky, lemon, and honey. It was perfectly mixed and served. I also tried the Toki Highball which was excellent. It was rich in flavor and not too strong. If you are really into Whisky King's Ransom needs to be on your list to visit. Unfortunately, we did not order food but the couple next to us ordered the pizza and fries and it looked delicious. At first, you'll see what looks like just a pizza shop -- but if you head in and either use the side door or walk through and climb a set of stairs, you'll find the speakeasy upstairs. Very cool vibe: dark, cozy, and date-night ready. Drinks: 4/5 I ordered their take on an Old Fashioned, and it was definitely the highlight of the night but sweeter than I would have liked. They served it over a stamped solid block of ice (a small detail I ). My friend was abstaining from alcohol that night and asked for a non-alcoholic cocktail. To our surprise, they didn't just hand her a lemonade like most places -- they actually made her a crafted virgin drink, which she loved. Food: 3/5 We ordered fries and a slice of pepperoni pizza. The fries turned out to be waffle fries (not mentioned on the menu) and were overly crispy, so not really our favorite. That's pretty good stuff. We ended up here because Captain Gregory's is b******* so we looked for another speakeasy. It's located in a pizza joint where you go all the way to the back to a staircase. The other option is a sideways entrance where you have to look for a special insignia. It is very speakeasy-ish. I definitely like the vibe. Drinks were good. I ended up getting the bee's knees which was excellent as well as the daiquiri which was also excellent. I tried the old fashioned which I also liked a lot as well as the Manhattan which wasn't my favorite drink. Ambiance is nice and dark very speakeasy vibe. Bartender was very nice and friendly bathrooms were clean. I do have a gripe about the ambiance regarding the seating. I wish they had more comfortable chairs. The high chairs are not my favorite thing to sit on and I prefer that they have more of those lounge chairs that are in the right hand side of the speakeasy if you're looking at it from the bar tender's perspective. I have tried to get into this place numerous times and usually have no luck because it is usually so packed inside. My wife and I were finally able to get in and find a seat and it was definitely a great vibe. If you have never been here before, you have to go through a legit pizza place and then go up the stairs in order to get into this bar. It felt like a true speakeasy vibe as there was low lighting, nice comfortable seating, great music and just a mature and grown type vibe here. The music was great as it was mostly chill and relaxing r&b. The service was absolutely great. There were multiple bartenders which I am always a fan of, and the bartenders would even come to you to take your drink order and bring your drinks. This was something I definitely was not used to. This place was excellent and was such a vibe. My only two complaints are that there is very limited seating and space here so it doesn't take much for this place to get full. This explains why I am usually never able to find a seat here. The second thing I would say is that most of the drinks are whiskey or bourbon based. Now Im sure you can order and request any type of drink as there is a full bar. But in terms of their actual drink menu, it is mostly whiskey and bourbon based. If you are able to get in and find a seat, this is a great chill bar to go to. read more

The cocktails are a little pricey for me (I'm from St. Louis), but they are crafted and were outstanding. I had the Sour, which had shaved chocolate in it; it was divine. This is a pretty small bar located in old town Alexandria. It is attached to a sushi restaurant but there is a separate entrance for the speakeasy. It is located on the second level. They have pretty good drinks here but it is not the cheapest. It is first come first serve. You'll notice a bright neon light as you go upstairs. The bar is lit up tables have small candles. Otherwise, it is dark in here. They have two bathrooms gender neutral. Service can be a bit slow here so I order two drinks at a time. Street parking available. read more

Ambiance: as one might expect on a Saturday night, the place was busy. I was able to find a space in between seats at the bar right away and one of the bartenders took my order after finishing the drinks he was making. I happened to unexpectedly be in the area, and I just happened to check my speakeasy map (yes, I made one) and BOOM, this place was right across the street! There's no way I was going to pass up! So I gathered the troops and headed over. The glow of green was stunning in this one! And connected to a pizza spot -- come on now! As with most speakeasies, there isn't a ton of space, but I think 30 could've fitted pretty easily -- only because, at least that day, you aren't required to sit at the bar to stand in that area. But then again, a counter against the opposite wall had menus on it, so it's meant to stand at. Yeah, 30 easily, but you would be dealing with a bar crowd. There were several drink options (and the ability to order pizza, which I resisted), and the bartender said he could make a special gin drink. I have no idea what it was, but the one that me and 4 other people got was awesome! I think he used Hendricks, but I'm not 100% sure. It wasn't too sweet and didn't taste too strong, though I know it was no weak drink. From the music and colors to the overall vibe of the place I would come back -- though the drink prices were literally 3x what I was paying across the street. Although it was fairly busy, I stopped in a on Friday evening and was able to grab a window seat right away for my friend and I that had a view down to the street. The bartender came over right away to discuss the menu, and walk through what options we may like based on our mood. My friend was looking for a specific drink she had tried previously, and we were informed the menu does change seasonally, but if they had the ingredients on spot they would be happy to make a drink not listed. However, we decided to order from their current menu and I opted for the Bees Knees. It was the PERFECT summer drink - both refreshing and packed with flavor. For the second drink the bartender made us French 75s (off menu), but they were fantastic. You can rest assured that any cocktail they make will meet if not exceed your expectations. Plus the bartenders and both kind and helpful and will definitely help you pick the drink that's best for you! The only thing that was a little "tricky" was finding the entrance door. It is above a pizza shop and while you can enter through there, there is a door off of Columbus St. to go directly upstairs to the bar. An absolutely lovely speakeasy with a cool pizza joint in the downstairs. The door is on the side of the pizza restaurant (on S Columbus St). I got the Whiskey sour drink (called sour) and it was super smooth --such a wonderful drink and the bartender was so nice and accommodating. Water was also served along with the drinks.
