If it seems like Chadwicks has been around for over 100 years...that's because it kind of has. Opened in 1979, the building which houses Chadwicks is a historic 19th century warehouse and is located right besides the Alexandria waterfront. Haven't been to Chadwicks in a while, so it was nice to convene for a recent brunch to catch up with some friends. While there is limited outdoor seating, I prefer the upstairs since it's typically quieter, and the abundant windows naturally illuminate the space. The interior is also characterized by nautically themed decor, along with exposed brick walls and hardwood flooring. TBH, this is one of the better Brunch spots in Old Town. I don't normally eat this type of heavy carb heavy dish...but every now and then, it's not so bad. The plate arrived with two buttermilk biscuits, country bacon gravy, two sunny side up two eggs, and home fries. The gravy was nice and thick with pieces of sausage bits, but I found the biscuits on the dry side, rather than buttery and flaky. Eggs were prepared properly and had that satisfying "ooze" when the yolks were popped. Home fries tasted previously frozen and could've used a few more minutes in the fryer. Service was a bit slow as there was only one staff taking orders and delivering food. But he was friendly and would circle back around to check on our group frequently. Pair your meal with a few choices of cocktails (I ordered a $5 mimosa) and Chadwicks brunc h is a great way to spend a few hours on a Sunday afternoon. Chadwicks has been around forever, but we paid our first visit here for dinner this past weekend. Chadwick's is really a sports bar and that should set your expectations accordingly. Service was good. Most of the food, but not all, was very good. What receives high marks were the blackened catfish, fried green tomatoes and chicken quesadillas. The burger was deemed decent, but the crispy fries not so much (I don't know anyone that really likes crispy fries). I had high hopes for the buttermilk-fried chicken. It came nicely presented with a very good coleslaw and a biscuit with a side of bacon-flavored gravy. The mac and cheese was okay but the macaroni underneath the surface didn't have a lot of flavor. The chicken's seasoning and texture were fine, but I really wish when a restaurant says they have fried chicken it's more than just a filet, like actual bone-in meat. But Chadwick's just does a filet as so many other places do these days. The server forgot my clam chowder starter and it didn't come out until after I had already received my chicken. But I sent the clam chowder back. It was so over the top full of thyme it was inedible. I think that there are enough very decent-looking items on the menu, I would return. read more

Great casual American brunch spot with an upstairs bar located in Old Town Alexandria by the water. I ordered the Eggs Chesapeake with cheddar grits ($24), which was like eggs benedict with crab cakes. It was delicious and the cheddar grits were good too. Paired together, it was a good portion size and the price was reasonable considering the amount of crab. My only slight complaint is there were a handful of small crab shell bits in there. I also tried the Fried Green Tomatoes ($11), which were pretty good as well. The place itself has a nice chill cozy vibe with an old fashioned wooden theme. There are 2 levels to the restaurant with a bar on the upper level. The staff are very friendly and the service speed is quick. This is a short review, but I think this is only my second time coming here. I stopped by for happy hour and ordered the lychee martini--and wow, this thing was amazing! It was so good it actually reminded me of the lychee martini at Jinya, so 10/10. I was honestly surprised to see it on the menu (maybe it's seasonal?), but I'm so happy I tried it! TLDR: Chadwicks is your typical divey local watering hole spot in Old Town Alexandria offering up variety of food. Would recommend for game watching but keep the bar of expectation mid to low. This was my wife's and I first time visiting Chadwicks we came here as a JMU Football location. The first critique was we came in and was told the TVs were at the bar sections and we sat at a table in the section but the host failed to inform us that we needed to ask the bartender for menus and silverware. We literally sat for like 5-10 minutes before I went back to the hostess to ask and that's when I was told. This interaction is on the hostess not the bartender. On to the food, we were here for brunch hours and I opted for the Monte Cristo which was recommended by the bartender that and the home fries were really good. The chowder lacked salt and pepper big time but once we added, it was decent. The clams in it were a bit chewy for my liking. My wife had the Au Jus she said she liked it but it was dry in some areas. In all I would come back here for sure to bar dive or to watch a game and grab a pub-ish bite. We stayed at Hotel Indigo, right down the block, and walked here for dinner after a late flight and hotel check-in. Food was great, service was meh, location is excellent. Parking would have been a challenge had we not been staying at the hotel, which included a garage parking space. Overall, I'd recommend trying Chadwick's. We ended up finding other spots in Alexandria with better ambiance but wouldn't mind coming back. read more

This place is a perfect place to go for a happy hour. I thoroughly enjoyed the crabcakes and the buffalo wings. They were cooked to perfection. The staff is very friendly and the atmosphere is perfect to go after work. They have also really great prices for drinks like $5 drafts. We made a reservation for a very large party of 17 people and they accommodated us. And they even did the separate checks for us without fussing. The food was fresh and hot and very delicious. All of us were happy. I have to say as a bacon lover, I love that they got my bacon just right, crisp with the right amount of chew. They had $5 brunch drinks and they were a pretty nice size. I got a Bloody Mary which could have stood a little bit more alcohol but it was still good and I was happy with it. I wish I had gotten our server's name cuz she was really sweet and attentive. I've always heard positive reviews for this place and finally got to stop in. It definitely has that neighborhood bar feel to it located just a short distance from the waterfront in old town. Their dinner menu is the perfect size not too many items where it's overwhelming but still enough variety to keep you satisfied. It includes starters like blue crab dip, buffalo wings, a few different sandwich options, a customize your own burger option, and entrees like bbq ribs, steak and fries, and jambalaya (price range for most items is between $10-$30). The service from the bartenders was pretty good even given the large amount of customers they were navigating. I decided to try out the customized burger option, and opted for a turkey burger with basically all the fixins. My sweet tooth got the best of me so I also order the banana pudding. Both items didn't disappoint, the turkey burger was cooked nicely, not dried out and the patty was a decent size as well, and the banana pudding exceeded my expectations, the actual banana to cookie ratio was perfect and the portion size was adequate as well. This restaurant has a mixed vibe between the outside and the inside. On the outside it feels like a charm, historic restaurant but the inside it's just like a neighborhood burger joint but it pretends to be upper scale restaurant. Our tables moves every time I lean in. The service just gave it all away. We sat down for 35 minutes with no one bothers to come by to take our drink order. We were meeting up with old friends so it wasn't noticeable until I looked at my watch. I had to walk to the hostess to ask for our server. The menu was limited but the food was okay, very small portion size. Chadwick's will always have a special place in my heart because it is where my husband and I had our first date. We have also continued coming here throughout the years. It has a great location near the water and a varied menu. They are open for lunch, dinner, as well as brunch. It is also a big place so typically not a wait to get a table, there is an upstairs as well as a downstairs seating area and a large bar. This time we came with a couple friends for dinner and we were sat downstairs in this side area. It is almost like an enclosed patio with a big front window, stone walls, and lots of pretty string lights coming from the ceiling. In my opinion it's the best area to sit at for ambiance. We started our menu with a round of drinks as well as an order of the Spicy Chicken Egg Rolls. They were warm and nicely fried served with a sweet chili sauce. A first we weren't given small plates so it was bit challenging to eat and dip until we asked and got some. But overall a solid starter. For my entree I got the Buttermilk Fried Chicken which is typically a Fried Chicken breast, bacon gravy, mac & cheese, coleslaw, and a biscuit. You are able to swap the sides for whenever of your choosing so I got veggie of the day (broccoli) instead of slaw. It was a nice sized portion, but the taste of some components left a little bit to be desired. The chicken was moist and had good breading. But when fried chicken isn't on the bone it just is not the same. There was absolutely no seasoning on the broccoli. Thank goodness for the bacon gravy which was tasty and honestly wish I had a bit more of it. Their Mac and cheese wasn't anything special, but was fine. My husband however got the Short Ribs entree which were braised birria short ribs, consommé, mashed potatoes, and sautéed spinach. He let me have a few bites and honestly he won dish of the evening. It was a well plated and executed dish. Everything on the plate worked well together and the consommé was so flavorful and helped to elevate everything else. Horrible service at the bar on a Sunday afternoon early. Not super busy. Rude women behind the bar, to us and other people. "I'm hard of hearing so speak up" in a very rude way to a dad with his daughter picking up food. He was shocked. It was embarrassing and uncalled for. Bar tender bothered by having to do her job. Drinks were awful. Simple tequila on the rocks with muddled limes (nope, she didn't do that), instead we got the tequila on the rocks with ONE wedge of a lime and a slice of orange. I had a dinner date here we wanted a beer and some burgers. I have to say this place was great. My burger was very good and cooked to perfection. I ordered a local beer and it was honestly one of the best beers I've ever had. I would suggest there fried green tomatoes as well from the appetizer menu they were really tasty. I also like this place because it's right by the water and u can walk around after your meal and enjoy the views . My server was Louis he was great I don't know how he didn't write anything down but was still able to remember everything we ordered that is a true super power.
