Now that they have Hi/Fi we actually want to eat here now. The quesadilla is the best; the tacos were also quite good. The queso I would not need to get again, nor the taco salad (it's basically all lettuce). However the quesadilla alone will bring me back. Need to try more of the bbq meats! Service is usually pretty good and it's like a dark rump room inside. Pretty fun! Small space.

"Hipster, here little, Hipster." Just like putting a warm saucer of milk out for a cat, this bar attracts all the fine, young hipsters...But, hey, that is not such a bad thing, because the place is just plain cool. It is cozy and intimate, but also a little edgy which makes for one of the most entertaining bars in all of Del Ray. I love their old fashioned refrigerator kegmeister/tap system. Also, my bartender/manager (Morgan)was cute and bubbly, keeping the afternoon crowd entertained and well stocked in libations. She took a strong sense of pride in her job and the Majestic Lounge which was very nice to see. Now, I have been coming here on and off for years, and it isalso nice to see that this spot is always keeping things fresh with the occasional makeover. I guess that is why it always bright and cheery rather than beaten and dead. I particularly love the wall of old, quirky trophies." Hmmm, didn't know that they gave trophies for butterfly catching." Oh, and let's not forget the bar's assortment of boardgames: Risk, Sorry, Scrabble, and Clue to name just a few. I can see it now, a couple of cocktails and, "It's Col. Mustard with the candlestick in the Library. Yeah, that's right, I went there Sherlock Holmes." Only at The Majestic could one solve a major crime or become embroiled in a game of world domination. I can't help but recall the Seinfeld episode where Kramer and Newman play risk for days: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fzLtF_PxbYw All in all, this is just about the best bar in Del Ray, and if you don't check it out, you are really missing out on something special.

A cool local bar vibe, slightly eclectic.

Four stars for the local neighborhood bar vibe. Three stars for the cocktails. Granted I'm a Manhattan snob, but the two attempts were poor and average. Also, my lady had three cocktails and nary a buzz (she knows her booze). ;)

This place is great for date night! The 2 top tables are a bit of a tight squeeze but the food was great. The inside is super cozy and cute.

WHAT A ONE-STOP SHOP!!!!!…read more 219 is a VA gem, that I personally don't want too many people knowing about. The bottom floor - the Bayou Bar. The middle floor - dining within 219. And the top floor? - the performance space and the side cigar lounge! When I say there is something for everyone at this location, you could not miss going here. My friend and I made reservations via Open Table and had no issue making our allotted time, neither did 219 with having our table ready upon our arrival. Our server was super attentive, giving all of his best recommendations, including the jambalaya, and wings! (Both pictured). We were also seated by the window which was surprisingly not cold (the fireplace was also not lit this night), and was able to have a nice view of the street! She and I love people watching, and this was nice! Loved this place, and took our drinks right upstairs to the jazz performance where we spent another hour or so. Greaaaat performers come, along with great sounds! It's set up as a first come, first serve basis so please come early! 219 is a great place to come for a cozy. comfortable night!

Given the size of the upstairs I'm glad we came right upstairs first. As it is very very small and tight. It's first come and first serve. Ordered wings fries and crab soup. The wings were okay from what my friend said. The soup could be better. It needed old bay seasoning and more crab. It was very bland. Too much scallions in it. It was like eating scallion cream soup. For $15 it could have been better. The drinks. They put too too much ice in them. My whiskey sour turned into water sour. My friend's old fashioned was old ice with orange and cherry bitters. Very disappointing. Even with the food and drinks not being the best the music was on point. The band was awesome. The space is very very tight and limited so you will need to arrive early if you want to sit by the band. But there is also seating at the bar down the hall. And the balcony seating does not do any justice as you can't see band only hear them. They could expand if possible. I gave it 2 stars due to the food and drinks. The music pushed it to 3. I may go back but do things different depending on the time we go. And bring our own cigars is a must. It's definitely a jewel in the Old Town neighborhood. Stop by to see the band and bring your cigars. And order drinks with light to mo ice.

So this place is...quirky. Whether you enjoy it will depend on whether you embrace that going in…read more It gives immediate NoLa vibes. I went in expecting a place that specializes in chocolate and deserts. Turns out that's not really accurate. The environment is sensual and fantastical and beautiful, but this is really a bar and coffee shop that also sells boxed chocolates. Their actual menu had one chocolate item, a cake, which they were put of when I came. I learned they were out of the chocolate cake only after I ordered a cab sauv to go with chocolate cake, so I ended up spending an additional $30 on packaged chocolates to go with my wine and that I didn't really care for. Likewise I was not thrilled with the brioche grilled cheese small plate. It said it was a trio of mini grilled cheeses served with a soup shot for $12. So I was expecting tomato soup and three little grilled cheeses wither on mini slider buns or cut like tea sandwiches. Oh no. These were Itty bitty little toasts and the soup shot was...French onion? French onion is made with beef broth and I don't eat meat so my friend tried it and did not like it. The toasts were...miniscule. And a little burned (because small things burn). I would rather just have a real grilled cheese. We also got fries, which were fine. The cocktails however - delightful. I saw cocktails going out to other people. Gorgeous. The garnishes were a delight. My friend got a bees knees garnished with a spray of lavender and he lit it on fire. I didn't know you could just burn lavender like that and it smelled INCREDIBLE. New life hack. The space is really small. It filled up when we were there. It was my friend and me, one woman reading, and then a largeparty that felt they could kind of take the place over and they weren't being loud or rambunctious per se but because they felt the liberty to kind of inhabit the small space and take over the room it got loud and we could hear their whole conversation. Likewise, we only had one server working the whole space so he was doing cocktails, coffee, food, the cash register...he was clearly overwhelmed. Not doing a bad job, he was hustling, but it was just too much for one person and I feel like they need two people there if it's busy. Maybe this large party was atypical for a monday afternoon. I still give it 4 stars because the cocktails are fantastic, the space is beautiful, I love the concept and the kitschiness and IYKYK of it, and I also see its potential as a gorgeous sexy little cocktail bar and coffee place when it is more chill. It would easily get a 5th star from me if they reworked a few of the small plates, added more chocolate to the menu itself, and made sure they were staffed more for rushes. Maybe on weekends they are, dunno.

It was delicious and the cheddar grits were good too. Paired together, it was a good portion size and the price was reasonable considering the amount of crab. My only slight complaint is there were a handful of small crab shell bits in there. I also tried the Fried Green Tomatoes ($11), which were pretty good as well. The place itself has a nice chill cozy vibe with an old fashioned wooden theme. There are 2 levels to the restaurant with a bar on the upper level. The staff are very friendly and the service speed is quick. Overall, I would definitely recommend Chadwicks for a good casual brunch in Alexandria.

I ordered a side Caesar salad, new England clam chowder, and their crab sandwich with fries. Food just wasn't great. Considering I haven't eaten all day, I feel like that's saying a lot. The Caesar was ok but I wouldn't get it again. The clam chowder .... Nope, had way better. The bartender said they were known for their crab cake. Um their sandwich wasn't horrible but I wouldn't get it again. They should of had some tartar sauce with it... the fries were actually pretty good. I had a ginger beer there and that was good as well. Bartender was fast, social, great communication and honestly the only reason I'd come back for a drink or something. At first, you'll see what looks like just a pizza shop -- but if you head in and either use the side door or walk through and climb a set of stairs, you'll find the speakeasy upstairs. Very cool vibe: dark, cozy, and date-night ready. Drinks: 4/5 I ordered their take on an Old Fashioned, and it was definitely the highlight of the night but sweeter than I would have liked. They served it over a stamped solid block of ice (a small detail I ). My friend was abstaining from alcohol that night and asked for a non-alcoholic cocktail. To our surprise, they didn't just hand her a lemonade like most places -- they actually made her a crafted virgin drink, which she loved. Food: 3/5 We ordered fries and a slice of pepperoni pizza. The fries turned out to be waffle fries (not mentioned on the menu) and were overly crispy, so not really our favorite. The pizza was fine -- clearly sourced from the shop downstairs -- but it leaned oily and didn't really wow us. Service: 5/5 Pretty standard -- nothing over the top, but not neglectful either. Drinks came out reasonably fast, food followed, and we were checked on enough without it feeling pushy. Vibes: 4/5 The speakeasy itself is definitely the selling point. Dark, intimate, and stylish -- you feel like you've found a little hidden spot. All in all, the cocktails are the reason to come, especially if you're into whiskey. The food was forgettable, but it's convenient that you can order pizza upstairs. We spent about $30-40 for drinks and snacks, which isn't shocking for Old Town. Would I go back? Maybe if I was already in the area, but for a dedicated whiskey night, I'd probably head somewhere else.
