Contradictory reason sent in email rejecting application.
    Pat G.

I've adopted here previously...can't say it'll happen again. To say I was thoroughly disappointed in how they handled my most recent application is an understatement. Not only did they lie to me regarding a specific cat I was interested in, they tried to use some personal confidential information as for their reason. I'm going to include snapshots of the listing for the cat, and the contradictory information they sent in the email response. I also found out, they decided to block me on fb, because I WAS honest and said they were going to get less than a glowing review! I was a staunch supporter of KSC, but since my last adoption there, things have definitely changed. Some volunteers seem to have ulterior motives with their placements. So you know how the casting goes, buyer beware. Be careful with how much information you divulge! (Some of the email was cut for the personal reasons they included)

I got the perfect match for me and my cat at home. Grateful for the care of the foster mom and coordinator, and appreciate the hospitality when I visited. I'm also glad the process was efficient and the staff responsive and honest.

King Street Cats provided a home for my babies before I found them. They are all volunteers. So it's not perfect. But they try very hard to place cats with the right owner. They want them to be happy, healthy, and not returned/abandoned. So, if you get turned down, it could be for a variety of reasons. There are other places to adopt from. And KSC adopts out over 300 cats a year - so they are doing something right.

Within 1 hour of being home for the first time :)

My partner and I were having problems getting connected with local rescues in Alexandria and after a few weeks of feeling ignored or like I was bothering coordinators (perhaps some of this was due to COVID-19 procedures too) before we came to KSC. We didn't have any strict requirements or anything, we just wanted to adopt a young, healthy cat! KSC quickly preapproved our application and found a potential match for us over one weekend. Within 30 minutes of meeting our new fur baby, we were able to take him home. They answered all our questions kindly and thoroughly. Thank you so much Vivien and Patti!!

I worked with Cacie to go over the screening items, as well as what I was hoping for, and she immediately had a pair of cats come into mind. It was a bonded pair, with one 2 year old cat and one 5 month old kitten. She immediately set up a time for me to meet the kitties at the fosters home, and I absolutely fell in live with them when I met them. As this was my first time having pets of my own, I was nervous and unsure, so I loved that they offer a 30 day foster-to-adopt period. Cacie also made it clear to me that they were dedicated to ensuring it was a right fit all around and that there was flexibility. Not long after adopting, we ran into a couple medical issues (though I believe Tails High did everything in their power to ensure both kitties were healthy and okay for adoption, and they were as transparent as possible with me). When I shared a couple concerns about the issues the cats were having, Cacie was very responsive and really took the time to help, despite the fact that she and Tails High are overloaded. I wound up becoming a long-term medical foster for the older cat due to some complications and I fully adopted the kitten. Cacie was extremely patient and helpful and made sure that I had as much information as possible to make informed decisions. It is so clear how much she cares about not only the animals but the fosters and adopters, as well. And I only continue to reference her because that is mostly who I have interacted with, but I'm sure this is a blanket statement for the entire rescue. They do really phenomenal work. I am so happy that I took the plunge with these kitties, as I couldn't have asked for a better fit. I highly recommend Tails High to anyone who is looking to foster or adopt a cat!

Can't believe I haven't written a review yet about this amazing place!…read more Let's go back to the beginning *record scratch* I've always loved cats since I can remember and I also grew up with them (as my mom was a cat lady.) I felt like it was finally time for me to adopt my very own fur baby. I looked up some adoption events in the area and I noticed there was one that day at the Petco in Columbia Heights. I rushed down there in excitement, hoping to find my future cat child. There were three cats left, one had just been adopted and was on their way to their furrever home. There was one pretty tabby and a very shy black cat. I was so focused on this black cat named Starling. He just looked so scared and uncomfortable (who would blame him!) I started talking to one of the volunteers, Eileen (AMAZING woman) and she let me pet Starling. I sat there speaking to him softly and gently petting him. I felt like this cat needed to come home with me and enjoy his very own space. I adopted him right then and there! Eileen was so kind and helpful the entire time. She took me around Petco and helped me shop, she even drove me down the street to my apartment with Starling! For about two weeks, Starling hid under my bed and was pretty scared of everything around him. I gave him space and continued to speak to him softly, reassuring him he was in a good place. He finally broke out of his shell and became the goofiest, cuddliest, most lovable boy. It'll be a year in April since I adopted Starling (now Lil Beefy lol!) and we are inseparable! We are always cuddling or playing and I couldn't imagine life without my furry child! Thank you Tails High! For giving me the chance at adopting such a wonderful boy who makes my life better everyday. Most adoption places are so political and intense about adoptions. But you made the process so comfortable and easy. I will be back to adopt another baby soon! Please enjoy the photoshoot!

The missing time for my cat and the one they posted online matches and the very detailed stripes pattern matches. It's questionable that one employee said she from North Carolina, another one said she from West Virginia. I have my cat since she was born, I can recognize this cat from eye contact. Well, if you know your children, you know them by the spirit, right? I sent them many details to JUST take a look, they refused. It's not built to help ppl or animals at all. I will show how my cat look like and how sick she is now in their foster home. I'm deeply saddened and worried about her. She is territorial as a cat does. She has been a happy cat in her own home, wtf they think this is a rescue. Now I have to either kiss their ass or be assertive to fight against this negativity just to get her rescued from these horrible ppl. F that! If they don't practice as ethical as it should be, this is a big big issue! I put the photos of how my cat looked before and how she looks now in their foster homes(one with name caption) I am seriously furious and frustrated about this. If they couldn't give me an explanation why they made it so difficult to meet the cat. I have to say I will use my popularity and influence to the extreme to make things right!!!

They let us know that based on the dog's profile, they recommended that we do a meet and greet with any family dogs we already have at home. So we get ready, load up our pup, and go to the center. When we walked in, we felt like the vibes were pretty off immediately. The front desk staff seemed to be pretty unfriendly, barely addressed us, and barely made eye contact with us. But we moved on and I tried giving them some grace... We then told them which dog we were interested in meeting and they let us go back to the kennel for a first glance. We came back out and when we asked for a meet and greet, the one worker seemed super hesitant in even allowing that. Lots of "ummm, yea, I guess you can" vibes. My mother-in-law waited in the lobby with our pup and they led my husband and I to their yard for a visit which went well and I asked if I could switch out with my mother-in-law and were told that it'd be best not to have the dog meet too many people in one instance since it has a "stranger danger" personality. What if the people after us wanted to meet him, would they have turned them down because it was "too many people"??? We then asked to have our pup meet since our meeting went well and were met with more hesitation. We let the staff know that we also have kids at home and they recommended that we come back with them so the adoptable pup could meet everyone at once instead of letting our dog meet in that moment.... we thought that was odd since we were already there and prepared. My husband was already over it and left and I went back in to ask if the dog we were interested in could be adopted that day or before we were able to come back. They let us know that they couldn't guarentee he'd still be there. Never once did they really walk us through the process or even offered that we could essentially put the dog on "hold" until I kept asking more questions. They finally directly us to a QR code that went to an interest form. I filled out the whole thing and then they were like, "oh, BTW, its a nonrefundable $50 fee/donation to put an animal hold on". So... fine.... because we really wanted to make sure he was still there when we came back. Fast forward to the next day, we bring our kids and our dog back in. They then tell us they they're going to have our dog meet their dog 1st and if that goes well, we can introduced the kids. What the actual crap since we already had our dog in the day before! So the meet and greet with the pups didn't go the best which isn't anyone's fault. We understand and recognize that is out of everyone's control and don't fault the staff for that interaction. One of the other workers who wasn't there the first day tried helping and made some suggestions to have us adopt and older dog but at that point we were ready to go. We were so frustrated with the entire process. They wasted our time, weren't upfront about the fee/donation, and the staff either didn't understand the process themselves OR they really didn't want it to actually work out with us from the moment we walked in there. We've adopted from Wolftrap Animal Rescue twice and had wonderful interactions. We also visited the Lorton Animal Shelter and everyone there was really kind and friendly so I'd recommend others going through one of those other agencies instead. We just hope our nonrefundable $50 donation goes to good use...

The woman did not even say an intersection was satisfactory. I was resigned to drive back to pin down the address with the rescued dog but recalled a restaurant I was heading to and used that address as it was near the rescue spot. The rules of the League is obnoxious. I always recall several years ago when they failed to rescue a cat on their property because they would not put up a cat trap at night due to regulations although the cat was seen in daylight. A cat trap is effective at night time. Changes are needed for the rescue and adoption friendly processes at government animal shelters like the The Arlington Welfare League.

It was easy to make a reservation online for our entry times the day before, and check-in went very smoothly. Since it was our first visit, we were provided with instructions for everything we needed to know for interacting with the cats. Then we made our way upstairs to see the kitties! I immediately made friends with a cute tuxedo cat who flopped down at my feet. (I even got to give him a belly rub while he purred away!) The cats had many areas throughout the room where they could interact and explore, but they also had the option to go into the back if they were overstimulated. There was plenty of space throughout the room, so everyone was able to enjoy lots of kitty time. Bios for all the cats were posted on the wall to let visitors know about each kitty and their adoptability. It was clear that the cats are very loved and cared for, as they were relaxed and playful. The evaluation fee was $25 (nonrefundable after online registration), and while the staff member who conducted it was polite, I left with the impression that she didn't particularly enjoy working with dogs. Fred is a very social, playful, and well-adjusted dog--he has attended daycare regularly since 4 months, plays comfortably with dogs of all sizes and ages, and has never been described as anxious. Despite that, I was told during the evaluation that he seemed nervous, though he was ultimately "cleared" for daycare. For his first half-day (about $36), I was told again that he was nervous and might only be suited for weekends. This didn't match the written "report card," which described him as social, well-behaved, and playing well with others. When I asked for clarification, the explanation shifted back to him being "anxious." Given Fred's long history of thriving in daycare environments, this inconsistency raised red flags. What concerns me most is not the evaluation itself, but the communication and transparency. Before the evaluation, I called to confirm whether there was weekday availability (since that's when I need care). I made it clear that if there wasn't space, I didn't want to waste time or money. Unfortunately, no one followed up, and after investing both time and nearly $60, I was told that Fred should only come on weekends. I was being "encouraged" to bring Fred only on weekends--something that doesn't meet my needs, but still generates revenue for the business. The manager would not speak to me when I came to pick up my dog and did not follow up with a phone call (I shouldn't be surprised no one ever returned a live call or voicemail before my visit....I should have stayed away). The facility itself is small, with play areas that appeared quite limited (approximately 10-15 feet across, divided into small sections with several dogs in each). While that setup may work well for some pets, it isn't what I would call spacious or enriching. It was very clean. That is the one bright spot. In short, I wish FurgetMeNot had simply been upfront about their capacity constraints. I can respect a business being full; what I can't respect is unclear communication and the suggestion that my dog's behavior was the issue when the real problem seemed to be limited weekday availability. Pet parents: if you are looking for consistent weekday daycare, I would recommend asking very directly about space before investing in their evaluation process. I personally won't be returning, as I value honesty and clear communication in any service that involves my dog. I wasted 2 days and $60 dollars on this place. Don't get scammed like me.

Yeah, it's a no for me, dawg…read more I took my dog to Fur-Get Me Not on Monday, December 9 at 3:15 PM for a daycare evaluation. Upon entry, I wasn't greeted particularly warmly by the front desk staff, but they did direct me to the person who would be completing my dog's evaluation. As the staff member, Christopher, who was actually completing my dog's evaluation was friendly and inviting, I did not think too much about the front desk staff. The evaluation cost $25 and it took about 20 minutes. Christopher took my dog to the back and had her meet other dogs and staff members. When the evaluation was over, he informed me that she had passed and answered most of my questions. I asked him what the pricing was for daycare, because it was not listed on the FAQ page that he provided me. He told me he didn't know, but that the front desk staff would be able to answer my question. After wrapping up to the evaluation, I walked over to the front desk to inquire about pricing for daycare. Keep in mind that while this is a full-service dog care facility, it seems that the main service-- or at least one of the most popular services-- that this facility provides is dog daycare. I asked the woman sitting at the desk about pricing. She told me something along the lines of, "we don't have the pricing listed on the brochure, but it is online." I then asked if she could just tell me the pricing. (I'm literally standing at the front desk at this point where they are supposed to answer questions about their services-- wouldn't you just tell me the price instead of directing me to go look it up for myself?!) She then responds "for what?!" with an unmistakable air of annoyance. Now, I would expect a front desk staff member to say something like, "sure, for which service?" The way she phrased her question seems like I was bothering her. I responded "for daycare" and then, she said "well let me just pull up the website and look..." The entire interaction was odd, like she was doing me a favor by providing pertinent info about the business at which she works. Also, why there isn't signage with the pricing for daycare at the front desk, who knows? I do know one thing though: if you act like I'm bothering you by asking you to do things within the scope of your job, I won't bother to spend my coins.
