After getting the rundown of the rules and information, we paid and placed our shoes in the front area. (It's socks only, so my husband borrowed a pair of slippers, as we hadn't pre-planned footwear for our visit.) Once inside, there were so many kitties to visit and plenty of places to relax. It's clear that the cats and facility are very well cared for, as even the floors and corners were being meticulously cleaned during our visit. Visitors are asked to utilize the hand sanitizer when moving between the spaces to minimize potential infections. The cats were relaxed and comfortable with many spaces to run and nap. An orange fluffy girl was being a hissy diva to the other cats, but she absolutely loved people. She crawled into my lap and made it her throne for a while. There's also a separate room for the kittens with plenty of toys for play. They went absolutely bonkers for the wand toys and found cozy spots for naps when they were all tired out. We really enjoyed our visit, and we would definitely return in the future for an afternoon of kitty snuggles.

My favorite room was the kitten room, a little gray kitten sat on my lap and cuddled with me they were all so sweet . The cats are up for adoption and this service is a great way for them to be desensitized, I will be back in the future for some more cuddles‍

During my visit, I fell in love with a fluffy little girl. I had already decided to buy her, but I wanted to follow the basic steps that responsible owners recommend. I asked about her vaccinations and about the health testing of the parents. The staff told me that all of their puppies come from small local families here in Virginia, that the families vaccinate before shipment, and that they only breed from healthy parents. I felt reassured and excited. To be safe, I asked to see her paperwork. I was told earlier that everything was local, so this was supposed to be a simple confirmation. Instead, the papers said she was bred in Missouri. I asked the salesperson how Missouri counted as "local to Virginia" and why he had told me the exact opposite. He said he got confused. That explanation made no sense. I pointed out that he had spoken with confidence about all of their puppies coming from local families, and yet the paperwork showed something completely different. At that point, I could not trust a single thing I had been told. If you are thinking about buying a puppy from here, look at the paperwork yourself before you make any decision. Do not rely on what the staff tells you. My experience showed me that what they say and what is written on the documents are two very different things.

Be aware this is not the same place as the Fairfax County Animal Shelter, which is a county agency. This place is a smaller, private nonprofit. They have fewer pets available, but they are no-kill, which is great. Check out their thrift shop, the Second Chance Thrift. You can find really great stuff here and all the money goes to the Fairfax Humane Society, so it's a win-win. The only downside is that they are open limited hours, so check the hours before you go. It's staffed by volunteers, so that's understandable, but I do wish they had more weekend hours. Also it can be a bit tricky to find if you haven't been before. But I have found some lovely pueblo pottery, old clocks, and original artwork at their thrift shop for very reasonable prices.

Our experience with Homeless Animals Rescue Team was extremely disappointing. We were interested in…read moreadopting a blind cat named Melon after meeting her at a PetSmart event. The rescue has no physical location and no working phone number, so all communication was limited to email. The adoption application was excessively long and invasive. Despite promptly providing vet records after an initial denial, our application continued to be dismissed without meaningful discussion. Kim, the point of contact, refused phone communication and was curt and dismissive in her responses. We were encouraged to attend an in-person adoption event, where we answered extensive questions and explained that we had a dedicated room and accommodations for Melon. Even then, Kim remained hesitant. We later learned Melon has been in foster care for 18 months, which raises serious concerns about this rescue's adoption practices. Kim made a condescending remark suggesting Melon's foster would have "more to say after we left," which was unprofessional and inappropriate. We were then asked to foster Melon temporarily, agreed, and have since heard nothing back. Based on this experience--and after reading similar complaints on Yelp--I will be contacting the PetSmart in Sterling regarding this rescue's conduct. This appears to be a pattern, and it is unacceptable. I would not recommend this organization to anyone looking to adopt.

Incredible experience from start to finish…read more I recently adopted a puppy from here, and the entire process was seamless. The staff was so helpful and accommodating -- they worked around my schedule and made everything feel smooth and stress-free. What really stood out to me was the follow-up. They checked in to make sure the adjustment was going well, which meant so much. You can tell they truly care about the animals and the families they're placing them with. I absolutely love my puppy -- she has been such a wonderful addition to our family. I'm so grateful for the support and kindness we received throughout the process. Highly recommend!

I was told I would receive it in my email upon adopting, and that they would mail hard copies in the next week (still havent recieved 4 weeks later). My vet got in touch with the rescue this evening and were informed my dog, that I adopted April 10, will need all her vaccines again since they expire May 23. STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS RESCUE...they should NOT be adopting dogs out knowing all the vaccines expire in 6 weeks without informing the new owners!

They have volunteer opportunities to walk dogs, take them on dogventures, or host them over night! I had organized a group of 12 volunteers to become certified in taking these pups out on a dogventure. These dogventures provide the pups opportunities to explore life beyond the cage. We went hiking with two dogs at Scott's Run and and another pup at Difficult Run. One of the dogs we had taking hiking was adopted one week later! I highly recommend checking out their dogventure program! I am so glad that I found this. It's a great way for both me and the dog to relax and enjoy nature.

If I could give a negative star I would…read more I have fostered multiple dogs back to back for this shelter but my last experience revealed a DISTURBING lack of professionalism and humanity. After providing feedback regarding a major communication discrepancy, the dog program manager acted out of spite immediately. During a phone call, Michelle W. (dog program manager) repeatedly talked over me and refused to let me finish. She continuously mispronounced my name despite multiple corrections. Even before I could finish a sentence, her final words were "you can finish but at the end of this phone call, drop off the dog at the shelter" and "I don't need to have a reason. I can ask for the dog back because I can". They attempted to force a well adjusted puppy (one I had fostered for over a month) back into a cold kennel environment as a "power trip" simply because Michelle didn't like receiving a constructive criticism. It was clear she lacked empathy for the dog's stability and was prioritizing her own authority over the animal's well being. The adoption process here is abysmal. At the adoption event, numerous potential adopters who were interested in my foster dog said that the interview process is a joke. The interviewers talked more about themselves than giving the potential family to speak. A lot of them said the interview didn't even last 10minutes. Worst of all, I witnessed firsthand they use a lottery system (that's what everybody calls it at the event). They literally pull a name out of a plastic bag to choose the final family for the dog. Lastly, I find it interesting that Dawn (the executive director) responded to my google review asking to "connect directly". During my call with Michelle, I repeatedly asked for the contact information of a supervisor. Michelle lied and told me there was nobody above and she was the final authority. While the rescue claims their decision to pull the dog was for "safety" that concern only appeared AFTER I voiced my frustrations with their non existent communication which resulted me and my foster dog to stay at the vet for over 4hours. Was the "safety" they were worried about actually the safety of their own egos? As a rescue using an animal's placement as a tool for retaliation against a foster is very very disturbing and unacceptable. This organization is not what they market themselves to be. They claim to appreciate their fosters, but their actions prove they view them as disposable and animals as leverage. If you want to support a rescue that values animal welfare and basic human decency, this is not the right place. I would stay far away from this one.

I had the honor to attend my second T2R annual fund raising event at the Ritz Carlton in Tyson's Corner last week.
