Stopped by for a semi-usual. I think her name was Thanh. I told her what I wanted and she went with it. My one big thing, and this wasn't common with many previous stylists I've seen before, was that she trimmed my line above my sideburn a la the unnatural line and more "stylish curvy", if ya get my drift. Usually, when I say "leave the sideburn", ladies don't trim that area. Oh well, to compensate, she offered to 0-fade my pointed sideburns... it looks good, actually. On to the shampoo with the nice full down chairs. Her nails kind of hurt but a nice job. I'm not impressed. Brought in my son for a hair cut and I swear, it was dreadful watching one of the girl there cut his hair. I'm not sure she know what she was doing. She cut it so close to his head that I started to see dead skin shedding from his head. Not to mention, he had hair on his face and in his mouth. I've been coming here for the past few years and while its generally hit or miss they usually do a good job overall. However, I came in yesterday asking for a one inch trim and layers in the front starting after my chin. Not only did the stylist cut off over 2inches but she gave me bangs. She clearly didn't not listen to what I asked for, and the layers are uneven and choppy. I kept trying to tell her to stop but she insisted that straightening my hair would make it look better. I thought this place was not bad but now that I think about it it's straight up nasty! It's about my 5th times getting a trim hair just to save some money. Yes, it's only $20 per trim or layering. Whenever I visit here I NEVER ever see them sanitize-clean up their tools between customers. They use the same dirty comb customer after customer also. Would you care for contagious dandruff anyone? Awful customer service from owner. My dad has been coming here regularly for many years to get his hair cut so naturally I also went here to get layers for my long hair. After much thought I decided to try something new and chop it off into a pixie cut. The owner (Huong) was extremely sexist and refused to cut my hair into what I wanted because she said it'd be ugly because I'd look like a boy. She kept telling me to flip through magazines to find a what she considered a more suitable hair cut, ignoring the fact that I had already showed her a picture of what I wanted. I realized I didn't have to take her condescending judgement so I told my dad I don't want a haircut anymore and went out to wait in the car while my sister got her hair cut. A few months later I went to another salon and got probably about a foot chopped off. I was extremely satisfied with her encouragement. After my horrible experience I will never get my hair cut there again. Keep in mind, had the owner not been so rude to disagree and aggressive, I wouldn't have been so mad and we could've been civil, but instead I'm left to express my resent on Yelp. read more

This salon has been here for a very long time, they started as just a salon. Now they actually have a nail salon connected to their shop. It's a small family owned salon, the ladies here a great, the employees I known, have been here very long. Which is great cause you can trust them with you hair and own the style they do for you. They speak Vietnamese, so while your sitting and getting you hair or nails done your just over hearing them speak their language. Which isn't wrong, just interesting. They play American music in the background, and there's fortune plants everywhere, one just about outgrew the building in the middle of the floor. The price they charge for styles, cut and color is very reasonable. You won't be spending over $100. Unless your getting a full one hair color, cut and style. It'll be less than $150. Women's hair cut and style is only $20. And that's with a wash. Men's is $15. They also have waxing done in the back room, never tried it before but seen lots of ladies go in and come out smiling. Maybe one day I would try it. They have hair products for sale, products they actually use. And if they do use a product they done sell they a very nice to tell you where you would buy it. Probably the worst place for a haircut. If you like your hair a certain way, go somewhere else. I asked for a light bang trim and the lady (her chair is next to the main owner) made it super short..literally an inch about the eyebrows, and she layered the bangs too. So now it looks super choppy, the shortest layer is like an inch and then when I asked her to make some transitional fringe pieces to frame my face and she chopped those off the same length as the bang. She didn't not listen whatsoever, and I even spoke Vietnamese to her. I have a wedding to attend to and now my hair is completely ruined. I've been going to this salon about 2-3 times a year for the past 5 year and I can say that every visit has been wonderful - disregarding the long wait time, it's totally worth the wait for the price you pay and hair stylist you select. I usually choose Amy, Kim or Jenny. They are the best! They are very patient at listening and cutting your hair to assure that everything is evened out, and good at knowing exactly what you want - that is of course, taking your description on how you want your hair to look into consideration. If you enter through the main entrance facing the busy street, all three of them are in the left side of the room. I would NOT recommend going to the hairstylists on the right side of the room just because they are usually horrible. It wasn't even that busy today, but when the salon lady came and asked who's next, she seemed super rushed again, despite the fact that it wasnt even that busy. So despite the fact that it was rushed, It was my turn to sit down and get my hair cut, although ill admit its a horrible start. Whats even worse is next. She asked me what hairstyle I wanted, and I said number 2. She was probably new because when I said number 2 she had a confused look on her face. So it actually turned out that she didn't know what a number 2 was and decided to GIVE ME WHATEVER HAIRSTYLE SHE FELT LIKE! Horrible...just horrible.... Here's the breakdown of the story, I said number 2 after she asked me what hairstyle I wanted. Then she started cutting my hair. After about 5 minutes, the haircut started turning into what looks like a number 1, I asked her if she knew what a number 2 looks like. She said yes. Believing her, i gave her permission to continue. After about 10 minutes, it was clear that my new haircut wasn't going to be a number 2, because it was pretty identical to a number 1. Then I got mad and told her straight up that it wasn't a number 2. All she said was "sorry". After the 5 minute mark,I had a feeling it wasn't going to be a number 2 and guess what? I was right. This is my go-to salon when I want my usual cut. It's not a fancy place but for what it is, it's okay. I'm very specific with exactly how I want my hair and the hairdressers here work hard to give me what I want every time. I've tried other places, fancier places, but I keep coming back to Kingway because the cuts are good and the prices are fair. The cuts I get don't always come out exactly like how I say I want it every time but it's close enough and I haven't gotten a cut exactly like how I say I want it every time at any other salon I've been to either, so I'm okay with that. Sometimes there's a long line so I have to wait. Parking can be tight especially in the front but there's street parking in the back too. I've been going here since I was 16! Jenny (the owner) is so sweet and does an amazing job! Shes the only person that I will allow to touch my hair at this salon! She actually listens to what I want! Plus when she washes my hair she gives the best head massage! Lol. Shes awesome! I always get a trim/cut and color/touch up or partial highlights (depending on the season). The price is reasonable!
