I took my truck in because it needed a new idle air control valve (computer was throwing code). Since it was my first time at the shop, they said they would go over everything... about an hour later they called with over $4,500 worth of recommended fixes. I know a lot about cars and immediately there were some red flags. 1. New front brakes were recommended because they were in the "red zone" 3mm. This was odd because I had replaced brakes and rotors less than 20k miles. 2. New ball joints and control arms were recommended. They actually said "we don't want them to fail when you are driving" Again, this was odd because they were replaced 30k miles. 3. Back shocks recommended because one was completely "bad". 4. Front axle seals because all of the front grease had already leaked out. I was pretty upset. I take pretty good care of my truck and this was not something I wanted to hear. The red flags made me want to get another opinion from my old mechanic who I now live 45 minutes from. He went through everything and found no issues whatsoever with anything that was found by Robert's Automotive. The front brakes were at 6mm, the ball joints were completely fine, the rear shocks showed no sign of leaking and were functioning properly. I was looking for an honest mechanic and found the opposite. For now I'll continue to travel 45 minutes for honest and fair automotive work.
