It's a dry (not oily), medium-dark roast that looks a lot like SB or C house blend or maybe a bit more toward Italian. It may make a great cup, but IMO, it's not a French Roast. When I was young I drank FR, black, all the time. These days I rarely drink plain coffee and I use espresso roast or Italian roast when making my cappuccino. A true FR is just a bit too smokey for me. This bag could just be from one bad roast by a novice roaster. Or maybe some newbie put the coffee in the wrong bag.
