I have tried this place 4 times to give the new owner a chance as they are friendly but the food is just horrible. Sadly I can get better elsewhere. read more

The Woodsman is the place for a hearty and affordable breakfast feast. Having spent the weekend hiking in the mountains, my friend and I were ready to pack it in before a lengthy drive home. This restaurant certainly fit the bill. Order when you walk in then open seating to follow. Plenty of staple choices: omelets, pancakes, french toast, waffles, sandwiches, and egg platters. Wanting to try a bit of everything, I went with the "Woodsman" plate - 2 eggs, 2 pancakes, home fries, and bacon. Delicious. Home fries were perfectly charred with a soft center. Thick bacon and thicker, yet fluffy, pancakes. Popular place for sure. A bit hectic maneuvering for a table. Everyone was nice and kept shuffling around to make room for newcomers but it was difficult to truly feel settled until your name was called and you had plate in hand. With the noise inside it was a bit difficult to hear when your food was up. In the end, the chaos was worth the flavor of the meal so as long as you adopt a go-with-the-flow attitude you're sure to have an enjoyable experience. read more

Being only one of 2 places that was open for breakfast within a 30 minute drive of Sugarloaf in the summer I landed here. Now my friend and I who stopped in were very very hungry after completing over 30 miles of hiking in 2 days and we wanted to go nuts. So we both decided to order 2 full breakfasts. The lady behind the counter actually got mad at us and we had to fight with her to get the order. So service is a bit odd here, but the food was great the portions huge and the prices ludicrously low. My complaints are the "freedom toast" thing they have going on & the totally cheap ass fake maple syrup. They definitely did not welcome French speakers and were down right rude to a guy who walked in wearing a bike shirt with the Quebec flag on it. I also was a little taken a back by the fact that it looked like a bomb full or US flags had gone off in the joint although considering it was 4th of July weekend I'm hoping it was not part of the normal decor. read more

I will never go to this establishment again. Yes the food is decent, the parking is ok, but the owner behind the counter is rude and offensive. The LAST time I was there, I was embarrassed by the treatment given to some folks here from NJ. They had 3 kids and 2 dads, they sat next to me and asked if this was normal, I had to say, "No, sometimes it is worse." The Woodsman in Kingfield is a small breakfast and lunch restaurant. When you walk in it's kind of like a fast-food joint with menus on the wall and a person on the register ready at all times to take your order. The food is mediocre at best and early morning to brunch time you can barely get a place to sit which is due in part to all the noisy older folk who enjoy that place. As a kid, I remember going there and seeing the old lumberjack equipment on the walls and thinking it was really cool. But in my childhood memories, and memories from my recent visits I have never seen a worker cleaning the tables after someone has gotten up and left. One time when I went to The Woodsman I ordered the Mac and Cheese with hotdogs on the side. A favorite of mine usually. But this time I don't know if they had gotten a new cook but the mac and cheese seemed different almost chalky in texture. Maybe they were just having an off day but I have had better. Most of the time I go however I have nothing but positive feedback about the food. Overall I rate the woodsman four stars for nice decor and quick service with the lack of cleanliness and lack of seating. But all in all The Woodsman is a fine place to take children and is not meant to be a very fancy place. read more

I ordered an omelette and it was delicious. It appeared that most people enjoyed the food, despite the waiting time. The pancakes are made in bulk, making the first pancake orders to take an absurd amount of time. We stopped in for a quick breakfast before hitting the road and we spent nearly an hour there, due to the wait. The other reviews which depict the head cook and owner as being rude, obnoxious, unwelcoming and simply a distraction to customers trying to enjoy a meal is correct. While waiting, the owner stated to one of her employs (in reference to not putting whip cream on pancakes even tho it was requested), "it's a pain in the ass, if they send it back then throw it at them"... This is obviously ridiculous and your business and their success is not deserved. If in the area and hungry, just go across the street for some good "road food". read more

We stopped here en route to Sugarloaf. The Orange Cat Cafe was not open (shame on them for opening "8-ish" on Sunday's prime ski season!) so we stopped here hoping for a traditional breakfast. You queue to order, pick up your food, and clean your table when finished. I asked if the hash was homemade and the sullen high school girl didn't know how to respond. I asked if it came in a can and she stared blankly. The cook/owner(?) standing at a the greasy grill was harshly reprimanding her for not writing the orders correctly, so she may have been overwhelmed. I decided to be safe and ordered the granola and yogurt. The wall menu describing the granola made it seem homemade. $4.75 for the dish. My partner ordered two eggs, home fries, bacon and substituted homemade wheat bread for an extra $1. The wall menu stated that his dish came with "one free refill" on the coffee. The coffee station is located right in the middle of the line waiting to order, which makes it difficult to access. The overall vibe behind the counter/kitchen area was negative. No happy good mornings or even a thank you or smile. When our name was called to pick up the food I was astonished to see that there was less than a cup of granola in the bowl. I asked for the yogurt and the cook snapped "it's underneath". So that meant even less granola than appeared. It was ok though, because the granola was do stale I couldn't finish the measly portion anyway. My partner's plate was nondescript. The home fries were soggy and raw. They were boiled perhaps and then thrown on the grill but just not even cooked! Bacon badly overdone. The best thing was the toast. It wasn't great, but at least good. The worst thing about this place is the coffee. I don't think I've ever had worse. Folger's Instant would have been better. Between the bad food and the bad vibe, there is no clearly no love in what the owner and staff produce or prepare for paying patrons. Do not spend your time or money here! read more

Stopped here for some lunch while out on the snowmobiles. It's easy to get to from the trails. The sign out front read "Under New Management" which judging by the previous reviews is a good thing. The staff was friendly. The food was good. The prices were low. I had a steak sandwich, my girlfriend had a turkey club. Both we're well worth the price. Overall a good experience.
