The breadsticks with pesto were sooo good! It was almost like a pizza. I got the seafood chowder because I didn't want to eat too much/too heavy since I knew we were going back out to ski but it was pretty disappointing. There was a lot of potato and it was kind of watery. My friends said the burgers were really good though. The chips were nice and crispy. It's also pretty pricey, but I think that's what you get for being in the middle of nowhere next to a ski mountain. I don't like that you have to go downstairs to go to the bathroom - way too difficult. But the decor is nice and the service was good!

The Bag and Kettle has been serving hungry Sugarloafers since 1969. Stopped in for lunch on a beautiful fall afternoon in Carrabassett Valley. Peak foliage time! Busy lunchtime, with a lively no frills atmosphere. The menu was streamlined. Typical pub fare, wings, burgers, pizzas and salads. Full bar available with a good selection of draught beer. I ordered the Dior Burger, an 8oz. beef patty cooked a perfect medium, slathered with garlic herb cheese, and fresh fries. The burger was hot, tender, fresh and flavorful on a toasted brioche bun. Yum! There is nothing so incredibly satisfying as a well executed burger! Great low key eatery with really good food! Highly recommend.

They have been at the base lodge since 1969. Today was the last day of their "summer season". This did not affect the food that they sent out of the kitchen. I ordered the Dior burger ( garlic spread) lettuce, tomato and onion cooked medium. The burger and fries came out perfectly. The fries were double fried so had a crispy coat and soft center. The meal was served with a fantastic pickle which cut through the richness of the Boursin cheese and fries. We also splurged and shared a dessert. We ordered the peanut butter/chocolate pie. This pie was fantastic. It came with a chocolate crust and delicious peanut butter and chocolate mousse. The service was efficient. The restaurant is a bit dated but had a nice vibe and good music. The Bag and Kettle will reopen in November so don't forget to head there this winter.

Chili with oyster crackers. $10 a bowl. Very good too! Big pepper pieces.

Great chili! $10 for a bowl. Baguette on side is $3 more. No free soda refills is super lame. Good place to warm up mid ski day if thats your thing. Cheese fries were nasty looking but were pretty good. Fries were crunchy but looked soggy. Pepper jack cheese?!

Bag burger. Can't order anything else.

Post-skiing the Loaf there is no other place you should be than the Bag. There is then no other item you should order than the Bag Burger with extra bag sauce. I don't understand why it is so amazingly delicious, maybe it's because I'm cold, tired, and hungry, but there is nothing more satisfying than a beer and burger after a long day on the slopes. The burger is massive and extremely filling. The curly fries were crispy and warm. They do have other designer burgers that looked fantastic, plus a full menu ranging from soups and salads to sandwiches, but I can really only vouch for the burger. In light of covid-19, they have taken all ketchup bottles off of the table and will bring you a small plastic container if you need some. The ambiance is a little dark and dingy, very much in line with and Old English Pub and the booth tables are extremely small, even for three people. The restaurant was about 1/3 full and we had pretty decent service. Not speedy, but she definitely didn't forget about us for long periods of time like other aprés-ski establishments often do.

This is a classic Sugarloaf burger and beer joint.

This is classic Sugarloaf. It is an iconic spot with famous burgers and a perfect location at the base of the lift. You must go there if you are at Sugarloaf.

Wow. This place is great...so good in fact, that we ate here for lunch twice and dinner once during our four day stay at Sugarloaf. I ordered several different types of soups (delicious!!) and we got a Greek pizza, which was unique and very filling. My husband ordered two different sandwiches; his favorite being the Garden (pepperoni). The drinks were reasonable and the service was super friendly. Definitely worth the visit if you're on the mountain.

Perfect stop to fuel up on great food and drinks after a full day on the mountain. Every app and main dish was devoured. The vibe was very chill and service was great even on a busy Saturday.

I don't know what happened but Very disappointing. We went here because of the menu specials which was showing calamari, ahí tuna. They did not have these specials. We ordered the garlic baguette: it was good and freshly made. The Maine seafood chowder sounded so good after a full day of skiing but it was very basic and lacked flavors. We ordered the pepperoni pizza, we thought it was going to be the best pizza ever because of the signs about being freshly mande in house. The presentation was good and a good size but also lacked flavor.

A much needed meal after a long day on the slopes. Looking for tavern comfort food? This is the place. Located right next to the base lodge and eager to please the bag and kettle serves up tasty food with excellent service. Kim was a sweetheart after she kindly reminded us no outside beverages allowed in the restaurant. Our mistake but be warned those are the rules so chug em if you got em. I got the children's chicken fingers, and they were scrumptious, don't be fooled they don't come with Curley fries ( haven't been in the menu for 3 years ) they are straight cut but still yummy, and LOCAL! Some of my cohorts ordered the soup of the day obviously with a baguette and butter, the burger and the Rueben all tasty all hit the spot. Ps. The White Russians will get you where you are going. 5 stars go out to the bag and fact they have been around since 1969, what a year what a time. Love ya ~ and we mean it.

Wow, let me tell you how great my experience was at the BAG! Atmosphere as always is great. The music not to loud and the pub vibe is very class. Food took 20 minutes and my BAG burger was delicious. The crispy steak fries a little disappointing and would have loved to have their old curly fries. My shirley temple was promiscuous and the total came out to 22 dollars. All in all great experience and great food. I rate it a 8/10

Good food and local beer close to the mountain. The friendly staff hustles to get your order so that you can get back to the slopes.

The Burger was mediocre at best and took a long time arrive. It was not a great experience and I would not recommend.

Maine-style barbecue. I never knew this was a thing, but it makes so much sense. Fat and protein do…read morewonders for the body and soul when you've put in a full day of skiing and/or it's 10 degrees F or less out. Not to mention there's plenty of maple wood to be had in Maine for smoking. I don't have much of a basis of comparison to other Maine-style bbq places, but what I tried of the The Rack's bbq was excellent by any standard. I'm not sure I detect a huge difference from, say, Eastern South Carolina style 'cue. In fact, the sauce that my ribs (half rack of ribs with mac 'n' cheese, baked beans, coleslaw and cornbread; $38) came with would feel right at home in Eastern SC: vinegary with a touch of heat. The ribs had a wonderful layer of bark and were moist, but not fatty. They were not heavily seasoned or salted, which many of those in the know prefer since the quality of the meat can shine through. It did, here. Of course I didn't snap a photo of my meal -- I was so excited to eat, I forgot! -- but it came with a generous portion of mac 'n' cheese (pleasantly cheesy, but undersalted by our standards), baked beans (very vinegary, made with onions that could've been cooked to a softer consistency, but were enjoyable in their own right), a mayonnaise-y coleslaw (fair), and a tiny square of cornbread. The cornbread was southern style to my surprise and delight, not the fluffy, sweet, cake-like version usually passed off as cornbread in the north. I loved the slightly spicy, slightly sweet pickles that accompanied, as well. The Pardner had the kimchi beef short rib (shredded beef short rib in a kimchi beef broth served over seared sticky rice with chef's vegetable of the day, pickled carrots and daikon, hoisin bbq sauce, Korean bbq sauce, fried garlic, scallions and cilantro; $38). He mostly enjoyed the dish, but I found the texture of the seared sticky rice too hard and chewy, personally. There was more sweetness and less spice in the bowl than I personally prefer and would expect from the name. The vegetable of our day was broccoli, cooked crisp. One of my progeny had the smoked brisket sando ($26). I didn't try the sandwich, since it was inhaled in seconds, but I deduce it was good. The fries I snagged were crispy on the outside, tender on the inside -- great! The other progeny had a L'il Rippers (children's menu) grilled cheese with fries ($12). She enjoyed it, but evidently not as much as my mac 'n' cheese, ribs, and cornbread, which she heavily poached. There are many good local beers on tap, from clean taps based on what we tried. There's a hand-written menu in the back room by the pool table, which listed $5 specials. This restaurant, partly owned by Olympic snowboarder Scott Wescott (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seth_Wescott), is clearly very popular. (There was a 20 minute wait on a Friday evening, even on the dregs of the Sugarloaf ski season.) I think it probably draws Carrabassett Valley Academy students, families, and staff, given that this well-known ski and snowboard school is just a short walk away. Customers are a great mix of teenagers and young adults, old people, families, Mainers and tourists -- and everyone seems to have a good time. The pool table, dart boards, and arcade are fun for kids of all ages. We were given a compostable (non-waxed) cardboard box for leftovers. Appreciate the planet-friendly approach. The bartender in the back room was great -- so nice and helpful. Wait staff were nice, but no-nonsense in that extremely competent Mainer sort of way. It's easy to see why The Rack is popular.

The Rack has always been the best Apres Ski bar in the east, serving up amazing live music and…read moredrinks that will have you struggling to make first chair. But in the past 2-3 years, their food game has gotten a complete make-over for the better. Our family's go-to is the Mexican Corn Street Nachos, add chicken, but recently we branched out more and let me tell you...it has not disappointed! Most recently, I had the Hot Pastrami Reuben (but had them remove the spicy components because #heartburn) and WOW, that was one of the best reubens I've ever had. not only that, but the pastrami itself was some of the best tasting pastrami ever. So juicy, flavorful, and not overly fatty. The BBQ is also phenominal. Maybe the post-skiing hunger and good beer selection makes me biased but hey....it really is good!
