This is one of the biggest and nicest visitor centers you'll visit along your Route 66 journey. We tried to stop in as many as possible as we traveled from Chicago to Santa Monica and this one definitely did not disappoint. It has all the 'stuff' you'd expect (food, souvenirs, restrooms, etc.), but they invested just as much in providing an experience for you to learn more about Kingman and Route 66 overall. We got our Passport stamped and had to keep moving, but the time we spent there was very well spent. read more

This is a fun visitor center with a little something for everyone. Two wonderful gift shops, a second floor free museum, a super neat pay museum (that I would strongly recommend), a dog park, and several photo ops. The gift stores had moderate priced items and a nice selection. The free museum gave a nice history of this Route 66 stop. The gem was definitely the pay museum. We learned so much about the history of the area and the dust bowl. As an added bonus was the electric car display. So much fun! We almost skipped this because we were just planning on a short stop. Glad we stayed and explored! We were traveling with an active 6 year old and she stayed engaged throughout. So many fun photo backdrops made this a stop that made our highlight reel from our vacation. Plan to spend at least an hour. Your paid admission to the museum also includes 3 other stops. Not all are open every day. We only made it to one of the 4. Again, good for all ages. Entertaining and informative. read more

Across the street from Locomotive Park [Kingman AZ] Formerly the Powerhouse, Arizona's oldest known reinforced concrete industrial building, according to the roadside attraction marker in front of the building. The historic Powerhouse generated electricity from 1909 to 1938. The side of the building has 16 Tesla Superchargers ツ The Visitor Center has a gift shop that carries maps, brochures and mostly American-made souvenirs. They have a nice selection of stickers and postcards. They also sell stamps so it was perfect for the postcards I was sending. The stickers are my latest collection (it doesn't take up much space LoL!) Upstairs is the Route 66 Museum (stairs and elevator are available for use). Before heading to the museum, stop to read about the Guardian Angel of Route 66 StoryFile Experience, Angel Delgadillo. He has a very special relationship with the road called Route 66. The employees are friendly. They also have clean restrooms. Before leaving the parking lot drive through the Route 66 roadside attraction and snap a photo of your car underneath the sign. Great stop, been driving through Kingman for years and always on a mission. This trip we had time so stopped & checked out area. I'm glad we did. The visitor center is pretty nice with plenty of parking and Tesla charging stations. Nice Mural on charging station side. Friendly staff at info desk/check-out. We started the passport (1st stamp here) after listening to it, explained to the group in front of us. Wife saw someone bring a bigger book (guide of whole route 66), so now we have both LOL. Clean restrooms, nice gift shop , museum upstairs(admission fee required), we choose not to check out this visit, but more restrooms and a nice display of the barber who started it all. Definitely recommend visiting to get an overview of what the town has to offer. read more

My wife and stopped here on our Journey across the country in late May. We have been to Kingman, AZ once before and really like this town. The last time we were here the visitors center was closed when we visited. This time traveling through the area, we first stopped at Rickety Cricket for lunch because we love that place and then proceeded to the visitors center to check it out. The parking lot was pretty full but we drove through to the back where we saw tour bus parking. There were no buses, so, we were able to park our truck and cargo trailer relatively easy. We learned a lot about the town and surrounding area. Kingman is known as The Heart of Historic Route 66 because the longest remaining preserved stretch of the famous all-American road, Route 66, runs through downtown. The Kingman Visitor Center offers free travel information for Arizona attractions and operates an all-American-made gift shop, focusing on products from the Southwest. It is located in the Historic Powerhouse, which provided electrical power to Kingman and area mines between 1909 and 1938. The Powerhouse is also home to the Arizona Route 66 Museum, Route 66 Electric Vehicle Museum, and Historic Route 66 Association of Arizona Gift Shop. At one end of the parking lot, you can drive your car into a large route 66 sign and take a picture. Overall, this was a really cool stop which we think everyone should check out at least once. read more

It's a nice little building. There is a Tesla charging station outside. A gift shop downstairs. The main store also downstairs, the owner not very welcoming however. I felt like we were just being watched the whole time we were there. Really cool Route 66 train upstairs. There is also a museum, didn't go in, but it is a $10 charge for those interested. This was a surprisingly nice stop with a Tesla charging station. The visitor center was very welcoming and had cute stuff for souvenirs. Their bathrooms were nice and clean. There's a train in the upper level that you can turn on when you push a button. That kept the kids fascinated for quite some time while the car was charging. They also have a train across the street that you can visit. The staff is very friendly. Which is always a concern when you're a minority visiting new places. It looks like they were under construction in the upper level. They also had comfy chairs to sit and relax. Chairs had usb ports too if you needed to charge your phone. You'd just need your cable. I highly recommend this stop if you're passing through. read more

The Kingman Visitor Center was an unexpected surprise. Driving along interstate Route 40, I stopped in Kingman for a breather, a drink and maybe something little to eat. The visitor center looked like just the kind of place I was looking for. I turns out that it was more than just a rest stop. Yes, on the first floor they have some cold drinks, snacks and a very helpful staff. Everything you might want to know about Kingman, the staff has the answer. Did you know Clark Gable got married in Kingman. Pamela Anderson got arrested for overexposure and Andy Devine, who grew-up in Kingman. All that aside, the Kingman Visitor Center also has a museum on the second floor. The museum opened in 2001 and is operated by the Kingman Historical Society. Through murals, photos and life-size dioramas, the history of the Mother road, Route 66 is told. First used by Native Americans as a trade route it then became the route used by the U.S. Army led survey expeditions. Settlers moved west over the nations first federally funded Wagon Road. Later it became a major route during the Dust Bowl and later the road from Chicago to Santa Monica called the Legendary Route 66. The museum is a real deal at $4 for adults, $3 seniors and free to anyone under 12 years old accompanied by a paying adult. There is a great film about Route 66 and the bathrooms are clean. Since 2014 they feature a 3,600 square foot Electric Vehicle Museum which traces the evolution of the electric vehicle from the 19th century to the 21rst century. read more

Lot s of old cars from the past. And they were electric vehicles back then. So why didn't the past move forward with the future in electric vehicles? Perhaps the greed of the oil industry brought that to a screeching halt in that era. Inside are maps, brochures showing old route 66. Hot sauces which I bought that are cheaper here then in Lake Havasu. Kick your Ass hot, Ghost Peppers and Fire from hell sauces. They're hot, but I can still tangle with them in my chili. We got to tour the place for pretty much free, since it was near the end of the day. And the little ol' lady upstairs dressed in ol' fashioned garb is actually watching surveilance cameras in case ya get sticky fingers. The Kingman vistor Center is certainly a nice place to visit and also across the highway is an old train. I don't know if the two are associated with each other, but it was worth while checking these places out. read more

It is my dream to drive from Santa Monica to Chicago on US 66. That is just a dream! The reality is that I enjoy driving on US 66 when I visit places in the Southwest. The Kingman Visitor Center is a place off US 66 that I visited last Saturday on my way to Hualapai Mountain Park. The Kingman Visitor Center inside the Powerhouse is a place for visitors to get acquainted with the State of Arizona and City of Kingman attractions. The main room on the first floor is stocked with brochures ranging from the National parks to Grand Canyon West. Beyond the brochures, a person is there to answer any questions relating to Arizona and Kingman attractions. Being the hiker enthusiast that I am, I asked Tim about where the different hiking trails are in the Kingman area. Instantly he presented me with a couple of maps while explaining how to get to those trailheads. And if I didn't have Yelp, I'm sure he'd pass on knowledge of fantastic restaurants in the area. The Kingman Visitor Center is more than a Welcome Center. It is a US 66 Celebration Center. This is only fitting. It is off US 66 in the heart of the Historic Kingman Business District. It is vintage US 66 postcard scenery. When you park your car, you will see a few US 66 signs. Inside, the celebration of US 66 continues all the way upstairs into the US 66 Museum. The Welcome Center also has a gift shop and vending machine where I saw Strawberry Dansani water for the first time. What I failed to see was the large bottles of water that the convenience stores sell. So I'd get back on US 66 to buy the water for the park. read more

Good pit stop close to Interstate 40. It actually sits on a portion of historic Route 66!! The Powerhouse Visitor's Center is more than just a simple visitors center.
