These lanes are the best I've seen in the Portland area. The food and drinks are great. The bowling leagues and tournaments have something for every bowler. The staff are amazing and as a business they truly give back to the community, last year they donated to operation purple star supporting local children of Oregon veterans be sponsored to attend summer camp with peers experiencing the same struggles faced when a parent is deployed or recently returned. I love this place. Rockin' cosmic bowling (blacklights, music/music videos, trivia), stiff drinks and just a good ol' time! Cosmic bowling is the best, though I have gone when it was just open bowling and it was fun too. Decent prices- $14 per person for Cosmic bowling (from 9:30 to 11:30) and includes shoe rental, and only $11 per person (from Midnight to 2:00am) and includes shoe rental. Both are unlimited games for 2 hours. One of the best things about this place is they have wait staff that will come and take your food or beverage order right at your bowling lane! It's pretty awesome, and the wait staff are super friendly. My only real gripe about this place (if you want to call it that) is the music selection. They have these huge screens that come down from the ceiling for cosmic bowling to play the music videos, and you can make requests. My last time there, I made 2 song requests, and about an hour into my bowling session neither of them were played. I went up to the front counter and I asked the guy running the music why they weren't played. He yelled at me saying that you are only allowed to make one request, so he crossed them off. I thought that was pretty rude, and he had no need to yell. I really wanted him to play "I'm on a boat" the EDITED version (duh). He freaked out saying that was a "dirty song" and there was no way he was going to play it. He then proceeded to play Christina Aguilera's "dirty", and the Bloodhound Gang's "The Bad Touch" (aka- You and me baby ain't nothin' but Mammals so lets do it like the do on the discovery channel).... Uh... So dropping the "F" bomb is more offensive then implying it, both visually and verbally? Uh... okay? Anyway- Silly reason to dock these guys a star, but hell, I'm on a Mother F'ing Boat! Remodeled from previous place. The old place was dark and rundown. This place is much brighter and has a game room for extra activities or something to do while waiting for a lane to bowl. They have a lot of lanes but it does get crowded during the Fall/Winter months. They give a $2 game card to use (games vary in price but you will not get a lot from this). It's definitely not cheap. They remodeled this place a few years back. They automated the scoring. They added large screens all over, which display music videos and sporting events. They have the black light atmosphere, and it can be a bit over stimulating at times. The music can be quite loud. However, there is lots of energy and all the new changes have definitely enhanced the bowling experience. They have an assortment of food available, and have an a selection of libations for kids to adults. Overall a fun atmosphere to knock down those pins. read more

My friend got a deal from Amazon Local I believe so we decided to check this out. He had reserved a lane and we got there too early. Luckily there was an arcade area with tickets and prizes. We bowled and requested a few songs. They didn't play any of the songs my friend requested so after about an hour I requested a song and they played it right away!!! They was a contest to win a pizza just by sending in a text and we won!!! Tried a cocktail here and it was pretty good. The service is a little so-so, but everyone seemed to be friendly. read more

This is probably the most fancy bowling alley that I've ever been in. We had malfunctions with the lane all through the night. It just seemed to be our lane though. They were so busy that they couldn't switch lanes for us, although they did discount the games to half-price for us. The beer was rather expensive as well $14.50 for a local IPA pitcher. I had a blast with my company but the experience could've overall been more accommodating. If you're bringing a child in there I might think twice coming in on a weekend night due to the music selection. read more

Came in with a bunch of friends for the first time on a Tuesday night. We had gotten the Groupon which was great price for 5 people. Showed up around 9pm and it was fairly busy. We played in their arcade while we waited for a lane. They had pagers to let us know when it was ready. Place was really clean! Staff was super nice. I recently hosted my fiance's 32nd birthday party here and it was a blast. I spoke with Phil in helping me brainstorm what package would be best for my group and he was incredibly helpful. Cost-wise it's a really good deal compared to many bowling venues in pdx. I also worked with Chris after I realized that we ended up not using a lane I was charged for and he happily refunded me. They were incredibly accommodating and helpful even during a busy Saturday eve. I've appreciated all my conversations with them leading up to and even after the event. Let me start by saying the bartender was fantastic. He carried a heavy load with grace and efficiency (bartender worked Sunday evening -facial hair/short hair cut). Our food took forever, came out wrong half of the time, and every single plate was cold. I was hungry so I tasted everything and the food wasn't bad, but cold tater tots and chicken wings are not great. Friendly and helpful staff, but way under staffed (on a Sunday afternoon)! Operating the touch pad for bowling was confusing. The food was alright. My Dad's fish sticks were way over fried, dark brown. I put $20 on an arcade card before noticing that 3 of the games I wanted to play were out of order. They had no one there who could fix them. I wanted to get a refund but went ahead and wasted my money on other games. The claw machines have lame plush. Probably won't return. read more

A little underwhelmed by the new place. Lacks the coziness and couches of Sunset Lanes. Less places for parents to sit comfortably and watch their kids bowl, having to sit at the awkward tables with the fixed chairs. Not much seating to wait for kids playing video games either. Ordered a margarita and it tasted like they squeezed a lime in a cup of tequila, I also ordered a Manhattan, what they gave me resembled a Manhattan visually. It tasted like he tried to invent a new way to make manhattans, wasn't good. They also weren't friendly. They had looks on their faces like they didn't want to be there and weren't very attentive. Cons: We're not serious bowlers, but we understand the rules, so we adhere to them, however our first time at Sunset Lanes, we had a horrible experience. Next to us was a Dad and Son, who throw the rental balls down the lane, never waited for us, skipped infront, so when we asked them to adhere to the rule, we got an ear full of rudeness and some cuss words - nice huh. Basically we were told he's never seen us there before??? I guess our money isn't good? I spoke to Chris - who didn't seem to want to get involved, nor was much of a customer service type (sad) as my friend was going into surgery on Wed so I took a 4 of us there to cheer her up (even told Chris) - he offered to move us, why not the rude guy drinking way too much? I guess that's because Chris knew this guy, WOW - We decided to quit and never come back - Chris not only didn't refund our entire bowling (one game out of 3 into it) but didn't have much to say - Pros: Clean, straight lanes, well oiled but not to much, huge screen tvs, looks brand new, everything is awesome except Chris and the one drunk guy - too bad for his kid. read more

We went to this bowling alley with a group for a birthday party and had a less than pleasant time. Sunset Lanes is not a place focused on family fun as they clearly do not hire quality staff. We expected a fun environment for kids and adults to which we were very disappointed. During our visit the staff used profanity and inappropriate language in front of children and our group. When asked why they were not honoring their advertisements they replied that we should not be asking for "deals" on bowling. When attending our lane to reset the pins they joked that we should not expect the lane to be functioning "all of the time." We will not be returning unfortunately. read more

First let me start by saying I don't work for sunset so my review is completely honest. We've bowled every house in the greater Portland area and we give Sunset the ultimate thumbs up! It always starts with the ownership, then management followed by how great the overall experience is. Owners Jon and Tom work endlessly to ensure this by being present and providing all hands on deck no matter the need. They lead by example and it isn't unusual to see them working along side their team in all daily operations. The management they have put in place are also equally amazing. Phil the GM goes out of his way to make customers feel appreciated. Phil never hesitates to get you what you need and takes every suggestion to the next level by trying to make it happen. Now, lets not forget Kirsten the most amazing food and bar manager ever! She's the reason why we really made sunset our go to place. She wants to satisfy customers needs by bringing in favorite liquors and food items, not to mention her smile and personality is contagious. Last but not least the service is fantastic, they have leagues that fit anyone's desires, the food is top notch, the lottery machines actually pay out and they have cash bowling tournaments and Monte Carlo with large prize payouts! Kudos to the entire sunset staff with notable mention to both Ian's, Mike, Derrick,Amy, Nicole, Sarah, Jesse and Chris G - you all make the experience so great! This place could easily earn more stars, but today it just didn't. There were a total of 3 adults who went here for open bowling on a Thursday afternoon. Naturally it was pretty vacant. I believe they have 36 lanes. At first they put us on our own lane with no one next to us. It was great. There were nice comfy "couch" type benches to sit on next to the lanes, my sister kept commenting that "this is the nicest bowling alley I've ever been to!". And that half is very nice, but they only have a few lanes with these benches, and then the rest are hard tables and chairs. So we had some 25oz beers in hand, hanging out having a good time halfway through our first game at this bowling alley (that had a ton of open lanes) BOOM here comes a man with 4 young children under 10 and where do they put him, right smack dab in our space!!! There was a complete empty pair of lanes to our left, but they put him right next to the beer drinking adults. The kids were rowdy, loud, and annoying. They got their balls stuck in the gutter so we had to all stop bowling so the people could come and get it. I quietly asked the lady if we could not be by children, and she moved us to the open space to the left that they should've been in the first place Okay no biggie we had to move, now we are free to be normal adults again...we start bowling...and before we could even finish our first game we just transferred, BOOM another family comes over dragging a highchair for their BABY and 3 more little children! Are you freaking kidding me!?!? SOOOO annoyed! Now if there hadn't been 25 other open lanes, I'd get it, but this was just ridiculous. So we finished this game and I went to talk to the lady about it again, I explained why we were there in the first place and we didn't want to be next to children. She moved us to the complete opposite side of the alley, where the tables had hard uncomfortable chairs, and it was no longer nice and cozy. She was really sweet and gave us all a free game for the trouble of having to bowl on 3 different lanes. We finished our games and beers between 2 serious bowlers, one which was taking notes on his foot and ball placement each throw. There are some cool arcade games, even for adults, the beer is a little spendy at like 7.75 a mug, More so the overall bowling was a little expensive 3.95/game per person plus 3.50 for shoe rental during a boring open bowling Thursday afternoon. The other dislike is that their shoes don't slide and I felt like I was going to twist my knee multiple times. The atmosphere of the bar is nice, and they had some festive Halloween decorations up. The lanes with the nice benches are great. I'd come here again, but I'd make it clear at the beginning I didn't want to be next to children. And they should really put the cozy benches on all the lanes :) read more

Best days to go are monday - thursday after 9. They have "quarter mania" and its 7.50 cover, with 25 cent shoe rental and 25 cent games. My friend and I went and were able to bowl 6 games and it was only 10 bucks. It can get pretty busy starting at 9 so we would go 8:40-8:45 to get our names down. Occasionally we had to wait for 10-15 minutes but if you get there 15-20 minutes before the wait generally isn't long (if any). read more
