My husband and I bought the season passes to Kings Dominion and visited on a Saturday in early June. We were happily surprised that there weren't a lot of people and the rollercoaster lines were short! The newer rides are great, we loved raptera. Soak City was another story and it was packed. The lazy river was chaos - I recommend that the lifeguards start limiting the number of folks that can get in at the same time. Other than frogmageddon (if you know, you know) we had a nice day at the park!

Kings Dominion is celebrating its 50th anniversary of operation. Opened in May of 1975, the ownership has seen several changes, but family fun has been a constant. In recent years, a few rides have been retired and removed, while the park has received the new Rapterra, "the world's tallest and longest launched wing coaster", and a rebranding of what is formerly named Intimidator 305, now named Pantherian. Kings Dominion had announced that Pantherian would open summer 2025, but it still remains unopened, although the coaster giant has had a completed paint job and re-theme. Family rides still prevail at Kings Dominion. Despite the big kid rides, there are still many fun fam adventures to be had. From Boo Blasters, Blue Ridge Tollway, the Carousel, and many more. Food- who doesn't like a good snack. The food at Kings Dominion has come a long way since 1975. From the simplicity of Boardwalk Fries, to child friendly chicken tenders at Chicken Shack, there is something for everyone. Kings Dominion elevated the food experience with Grain and Grill, Outpost Cafe, and Firehouse BBQ. But not to worry, you can still grab pizza, burgers and hot dogs at various restaurants throughout the park. Cost - Entertainment is a luxury and going to Kings Dominion definitely comes at a cost. A regular single day ticket can cost upwards of $80 per person, but Kings Dominion is often running promotions and discounts. For $65 right now they are offering "Admission + Coca-Cola® fountain drinks all day". If you are local to the area, a season pass may be a better value. Food, drinks and snacks also add up quickly. Kings Dominion offers several drink and meal plans, be sure to read and understand how each works to decide what works for you. The plans can be frustrating trying to figure out which establishments accept which plans and the frequency of use. Live entertainment- Kings Dominion has a few opportunities for live entertainment, this isn't something of particular interest to me, but if it was, I might be frustrated trying to figure of what is happening and when. I went to Kings Dominion twice this week and the Kings Dominion Theater was advertising shows, but there were no shows on those two days. Overall value- like I have said previously, if you are local, consider a pass. Even if you live further away, if you plan to visit a few times in a season (think...summer, then in the fall is Haunt), a pass is a good value, especially a tier that includes parking. I can honestly live without food at Kings Dominion, but the all season drink plans are a deal. You can get a drink every 15 minutes, which comes in handy on hot days. What could be improved? Definitely more liberal and transparent dining plans. A snack-only plan for those who don't want a meal, but a pretzel or ice cream. Pave the parking lot. A half-day ticket, with admission that starts later in the day. The park is doing well with customer service and cleanliness. Overall in my personal experience, I have been enjoying Kings Dominion and its 50th year season.

I have an annual pass to KD and visit this park frequently. Most recently I had visited this park for their annual WinterFest, and it was very well done. From carollers to live sheep and llama's, KD went all out. The light displays were gorgeous, and they also provided a special dining experience with igloo seating under the park's Eiffel Tower area, on a reservation basis. They also converted the front area of the park into an outdoor ice skating rink, and it looked very magical. I would still say that food pricing is ridiculous for the quality of food that is being offered, so I wouldn't go there to eat. But all in all, I was impressed with WinterFest.

A fun time at King's Dominion. I visited on a weekday with relatively light foot traffic. Considering the other amusement parks in the Mid-Atlantic region, Kings Dominion is one of the better amusement parks in terms of customer service, ride availability, food services, and park layout. I visited on a day in which the weather produced torrential rain, however, to my surprise the park remained open despite the gloomy forecast. Even the roller coasters were operational during the rain. I had never experienced riding a roller coaster in the rain, much less torrential rain, however, it was a fun experience. I was a bit apprehensive at first, seeing riders exit the roller coaster cars soaked from the rain, but the ride attendants and operators assured us the ride would be safe and even encouraged rider enthusiasm in anticipation of boarding the cars. Word of caution, if you are visiting the park on a day with inclement weather forecasted, anticipate the park to remain open unless there is forecast for major thunderstorms or hurricane. While in the park you'll spend time under covered shelter which will reduce your time actively experiencing the park. Since the park is not new, there are plenty older rides, however, there are newer rides strategically situated throughout the park. I purchased multiple Fast Lane passes and quickly realized after the first ride that it is not necessary during the week, even in the summer, as the park isn't so packed. Kings Dominion provides anticipated park volume on specific days, so consider this for planning purposes. I also purchased Preferred Parking for $40 which was a questionable upgrade. At my arrival and departure of the park, the Preferred Parking lot had ample spaces and so did the standard parking. One perk about Preferred Parking is depending on where you park in this area you can be within short walking distance of the main gate to enter the park. Overall a very good experience.

Lots of things could be improved. Food is always cold and expensive. Drinks not so great especially if you drink alcohol. Displays are not very impressive this year and now they told us they are closed for winter fest this year. Couldn't even watch the trick or treaters since it's behind a fence now. Boo

Ahhh Spring and Fall weekends are so relaxing in the park. The crowds are non existent and the rides are basically walk on. Come early, see/ride it all and get out before the afternoon/ evening picks up. This will always be an iconic park near RVA. Recently it was bought by Six Flags. Will we see any updates? Looney tunes for instance?? Save yourself time and money and buy a refillable cup. Easy to carry and refill and fresh brewed iced teas can be found in some restaurants. I love all the different festivals throughout the year. KD will always be an iconic park.

    Best day to visit?

    Sundays and Wednesdays

Should I visit in April or May? I'm curious if all of the rides will be open on a theoretically nice-weather Saturday. I want to take an out of state friend to KD, and I want to make sure that rides like the White Water Canyon would be open.

I would go in May if you want the water park and water rides. It should open on Memorial Day or something like that. Check the website. It's still going to be very warm on opening day, which is two days from now. The water rides won't be open…

What rides remain open during rain I want to know because we are leaving to go next Sunday?

Anything that isn't a roller coaster

Can you share a meal plan?

the all season dining costs 104+ tax. its good foe one person for the entire season. i usually get one meal plan and just split the lunch and dinner entree with my hubby.

    Does KD have wifi available?

Yes. Like any other wifi. It will drain your battery. It works well with my phone. I have an iPhone and Verizon.

These kind of log rides no matter what name they are give are always fun and enjoyable   most people who don't like rollercoasters would enjoy these kinds of rides. As a kid on two separate occasions I found a toys of some sort that someone else dropped or forgotten in the boat.  I don't remember what the second toy was, but the first item I found on this ride was a switchblade knife made of plastic. I picked it up and cleaned it up with some napkins I had. I did a more thorough cleaning later on that day. I even found money in the boat too. It wasn't much, but $5 to $10 bucks was a lit to a kid back then. This ride is not a high level thrill ride. It is a laid back ride with two hills in it. One in the beginning to start the motion without the ocean. The second hill is at the end after the bend.  The rest of the trip is past a house, through the woods without grandma's house we go.   There is little to no chance of getting some water on you...except your backside when sit down in the boat. This ride us located in the woods just like my favorite rollercoaster  named The Grizzle...oh, for the record, it's not truly hidden in the woods anymore, but I will explain this later on. Shenandoah Log Flume  is a softcore ride for children who are becoming teens and teens who are becoming adults. Needless to say, this ride can help break you in... of course, I have seen people abandon ship at the top of the second hill. I have done it once just to see where the staff members go, when it's time for the changing of the guards. I had to abandon ship when the ride malfunctioned too. This was a disappointment, because I like this ride.  Shenandoah Log Flume is not the longest log ride I have been on, but is still fun. Splash Mountain (At Walt Disney World), Saw Mill Log Flume(At Six Flags Great Adventure), Dudley Do-Right's Ripsaw Falls (At Universal Studios) and Coal Cracker (At Hershey Park) are four fantastic log rides. There are other log rides out there, but you get the point.   A lady I know..wait,...no,....woman I know named Jasmine would have a blast on these rides. Why, because they are relaxing and the water rides are scenic.  Lady Jasmine of Canada would appreciate it. I look forwards to riding another one of these fantastic rides.

If you want to get do you want to get technical and nasty, some people would spit or hocking loogies, while upside down. It would be timed so when one spits, the ship was on it's way down so someone would get hit by it. I have come close to getting hit by some one doing this. The person was lucky to get away from me. One of the last times I went on this ride, some one vomited and that kinda ended it for me. I wasn't hit be the vomit, but it ruined someone's morning. I don't know why I was a scaredy cat for a number of years as a kid, but I am glad I developed a stomach for this ride, because it is one of the better starter rides out there. However, the rides are really the only thing I have to say that's positive. Ride operations were poor at best. They take a long time to load and unload, with the only exceptions being Griffon and InvadR. The worst offender was Tempesto. In fact, the entire Festa Italia area had pretty poor operations, which is unfortunate since it has some of the best rides in the park. Tempesto is a very short ride, and in the time it took them just to load one train, it could have completed about eight cycles. I also found that Apollo's Chariot and Pantheon were pretty restrictive for larger riders. I'm not that big of a guy, and they had to squeeze me into both of them. (Also, there's a ride operator at Apollo's Chariot who will, without warning, shove the restraint into your thighs and is apparently not afraid to risk permanent damage to your future lineage.) I can't imagine having to push a wheelchair around this park. There are extremely steep hills everywhere. So if you're planning to visit and have a mobility disability, all I've got to say is: good luck. The food was kind of mid, with one exception: the pizza pretzel. That was actually pretty good. To sum it all up, if you only care about rides, this park is a great option. However, when it comes to literally everything else, it's pretty weak.

The pool is huge and the water slides very fun and efficient (wait times are short). I took my granddaughter for a weekend swim and we both had a great time. The water slides are the bomb, especially for a local pool that is not part of a theme park. The pool area is large and even on a weekend we had plenty of room to swim and horse around. They allow beach balls and small pool toys. The pool offers fun for all age kids - the baby pool has mushrooms and slides and there is even a mid size slide for kids too old for the baby pool but not ready for the big slides. All of the lifeguards we encountered were smiling and friendly. The snack bar has a wide variety of ice cream, drinks, and unhealthy fried foods (fries, Snickers, Twinkies) and service was fast and efficient. The inside eating area has lots of tables but is very dark. Now for the things that need improvement: Bathrooms are dingy and old, but not unclean. The party deck wood is old and I would worry about splinters. They have nice areas with tables and umbrellas to eat, but NO poolside chairs. Come on! For $20 weekend admission they should have chairs lining the pool area. The parking lot needs paving and spot markers, and the outside needs better signage to find the entrance. Even with all these negatives, I have to give 4 stars because my granddaughter had a wonderful time (she can't wait to go back) and the other patrons seemed to be having fun as well.

My sheets had dirt or sand on them. The "crafts" for kids, is crayons and a coloring page each time. Everything is so expensive here, that it reminds me of Vegas hotels. A single candy bar was 8.00. The buffet was actually pretty good but the restaurants are awful. Every attraction is designed so it is cost prohibitive unless you spend a ton on unlimited passes. I paid 24.00 to pay one fast round if laser tag with my 2 kids and myself. I called to ask for trash pickup and towels and ai said someone would be up "immediately." An hour later and no one came. I searched the internet for the front desk number (there is no lodge info at all in the rooms) and got voicemail so I left a message. Still waiting to see if they're going to come. Parking is somehow 20.00 a day. We have a handicap placard and there were very, very few handicap spots, we never got one and ended up having to park on the opposite end of the lodge every time, with an Autisic kiddo at risk elopement. The noise. Yes, it's for families. Kids are loud. But, who are these purely that are letting their kids run up and down the hall screaming every night. It's not just the kids, the adults are busy yelling at the kids to slow down. I've gotten so little sleep because it's so loud all the time. I will not be back. It cost my family of 6 far less to rent a 6 bed 4 bath oceanfront house in NC. Oh, and something I saw mentioned a lot- one of our adjoining rooms wasn't ready when we arrived. We arrived at about 4:15 and check in was at 4. It wasn't ready until 5. Not a huge deal for us if everything else had been cool, but it's just another thing in the list I saw mentioned a lot. It gets 2 stars instead of 1 because 1. The staff that I encountered was nice. 2. It's nice to find a place big enough for all of us. 3. The kids like the water park- it's a good size, but not big enough to justify the price.

When you have a toddler that loves the water, you HAVE to take them to great wolf lodge! We've been…read morehere twice now in the last year. The first time was just a day pass in the afternoon which is a great deal if you don't want to stay the night. And most recently we stayed the night and had a great time! We booked the kid cabin suite which can accommodate up to 7 people but I think realistically and comfortably, it would be 5. It comes with balcony access, a pull out sofa bed, a queen size bed, a bunk bed, a full size bed and one bathroom. The room is fairly spacious but could use either a bigger table and or an addition half bath at least to accommodate up to 7 people. This was great for us as we had 4 adults and one toddler. There are quite a few attractions here besides the water park. They have a pretty extensive arcade, glow in the dark putt, bowling, story time for kids, ropes course, laser tag and multiple restaurants! Obviously their main attraction is their huge indoor water park! They have things for babies to adults to try here! But I would say their main water attractions are geared more for small babies to middle schoolers. There are multiple water slides for all ages and there's a HUGE bucket of water that dumps about 1,000 gallons of water every 5 mins! Pretty cool! We added on the breakfast buffet for which I would highly recommend. This isn't your typical hotel breakfast! Their offerings were pretty vast and even included a MTO omelette station! If you want to entertain your kiddos, look no further than great wolf lodge for all your entertainment needs! SN: everyone gets a wristband to wear which grants you access to the water park BUT you can also use it to charge purchases to the room AND serves as you room key! Pretty cool!!
