We visited on a Saturday before the summer season really got its momentum. Because it was early in the year, the waterpark wasn't fully open yet... there were no live shows running, and very limited options, which was a bit of a bummer. If you aren't a hardcore ride enthusiast, the adult entertainment is pretty much limited to finding a nice spot to grab a drink. For adults who don't like coasters, early season is a total miss. They are incredibly cool, packed with big thrills, and 100% kid-approved. Arrive early! If you don't want to suffer in massive lines for the main attractions, you've got to be fast on your feet. Get to the park ahead of the crowds so you can sprint to the best rides first. While the lack of shows was disappointing, the park totally redeemed itself with pure, unadulterated nostalgia. My former pre-teen self was absolutely losing it because I got to meet Franklin--and had a chance to strike a pose, with Linus, Lucy, and hung out on the bench with Snoopy and Woodstock. These moments completely made the trip. As they say, "Happiness is anyone and anything at all that's loved by you." My husband and I bought the season passes to Kings Dominion and visited on a Saturday in early June. We were happily surprised that there weren't a lot of people and the rollercoaster lines were short! The newer rides are great, we loved raptera. Soak City was another story and it was packed. The lazy river was chaos - I recommend that the lifeguards start limiting the number of folks that can get in at the same time. Kings Dominion is celebrating its 50th anniversary of operation. Opened in May of 1975, the ownership has seen several changes, but family fun has been a constant. In recent years, a few rides have been retired and removed, while the park has received the new Rapterra, "the world's tallest and longest launched wing coaster", and a rebranding of what is formerly named Intimidator 305, now named Pantherian. Kings Dominion had announced that Pantherian would open summer 2025, but it still remains unopened, although the coaster giant has had a completed paint job and re-theme. Family rides still prevail at Kings Dominion. Despite the big kid rides, there are still many fun fam adventures to be had. From Boo Blasters, Blue Ridge Tollway, the Carousel, and many more. Food- who doesn't like a good snack. The food at Kings Dominion has come a long way since 1975. From the simplicity of Boardwalk Fries, to child friendly chicken tenders at Chicken Shack, there is something for everyone. Kings Dominion elevated the food experience with Grain and Grill, Outpost Cafe, and Firehouse BBQ. But not to worry, you can still grab pizza, burgers and hot dogs at various restaurants throughout the park. Cost - Entertainment is a luxury and going to Kings Dominion definitely comes at a cost. A regular single day ticket can cost upwards of $80 per person, but Kings Dominion is often running promotions and discounts. For $65 right now they are offering "Admission + Coca-Cola® fountain drinks all day". If you are local to the area, a season pass may be a better value. Food, drinks and snacks also add up quickly. Kings Dominion offers several drink and meal plans, be sure to read and understand how each works to decide what works for you. The plans can be frustrating trying to figure out which establishments accept which plans and the frequency of use. Live entertainment- Kings Dominion has a few opportunities for live entertainment, this isn't something of particular interest to me, but if it was, I might be frustrated trying to figure of what is happening and when. I went to Kings Dominion twice this week and the Kings Dominion Theater was advertising shows, but there were no shows on those two days. Overall value- like I have said previously, if you are local, consider a pass. Even if you live further away, if you plan to visit a few times in a season (think...summer, then in the fall is Haunt), a pass is a good value, especially a tier that includes parking. I can honestly live without food at Kings Dominion, but the all season drink plans are a deal. You can get a drink every 15 minutes, which comes in handy on hot days. What could be improved? Definitely more liberal and transparent dining plans. A snack-only plan for those who don't want a meal, but a pretzel or ice cream. Pave the parking lot. A half-day ticket, with admission that starts later in the day. The park is doing well with customer service and cleanliness. Overall in my personal experience, I have been enjoying Kings Dominion and its 50th year season. read more

At the end of May, I visited Kings Dominion for the first time during music in the parks for the middle school as a chaperone. The park is pretty nice upon entering. The line's getting in we're pretty long, but they moved quick. The park is actually fairly clean and the walk areas are nice and large and wide. Some of the staff was nice. Some of the staff were not very kind or patient. I understand trying to work with teenagers when it comes to them playing and or acting out is hard but not every teenager is a bad teenager. The food was OK but nothing to rave about. Lots of fried food there are some options like barbecue or Italian. The Italian actually looked pretty good and the pizza looked good that they were serving. The bathrooms are actually pretty disgusting. One bathroom I walked in there was what I could assume water all over the floor, but it smelled like urine throughout. If I lived closer to Kings Dominion, I might opt to visit it more often and maybe for their special events like Halloween, but we're fairly close to Busch Gardens and will most likely stick around that area. read more

I have an annual pass to KD and visit this park frequently. Most recently I had visited this park for their annual WinterFest, and it was very well done. From carollers to live sheep and llama's, KD went all out. The light displays were gorgeous, and they also provided a special dining experience with igloo seating under the park's Eiffel Tower area, on a reservation basis. They also converted the front area of the park into an outdoor ice skating rink, and it looked very magical. I would still say that food pricing is ridiculous for the quality of food that is being offered, so I wouldn't go there to eat. But all in all, I was impressed with WinterFest. read more

I went to this park for 3 visit and there is something always changing. I got the experience the park for 2 days and a half. The park did close an hour early on both of the visits I had due to the rain and not having a lot of people at the park. From the last visit, they got rid of Anaconda which was one of the worst roller coasters I have been on. The station is still there but nothing else. They renamed Intimidator 305 to Pantherian and made it part of Jungle Expedition. That is still my favorite ride at the park, but could not ride this during my visit as it is going through renovation and there is a part they are waiting on. Was sad not to ride it. The food places I enjoy to eat are Outpost Cafe, I love the steak and the chicken was not too bad. Make sure you get the three sauces. Gain and grill used to be my favorite, but the pork ended up being very salty. I do like eating at the Jukebox diner. They do serve blue ice cream in front of the funnel cake shops, but beware the line does move slow especially if you want it at the end. Service can suck too as the employee did skip me and ended up serving a customer ahead of me. My other reviews accidentally got removed so I do ride most of the rides here and my brief statement on them 1. Dominator - rattling and headbanging 2. Pantherian - must ride, but it does break down quite a bit 3. Twisted Timbers - must ride, they do offer free lockers But if you ride this ride a lot your thighs will hurt 4. Grizzly - gotton smoother, but can be bumpy depending on where you sit 5. Rapterra - new ride, I got to ride this 14 times in one day and wanted more I enjoy the launch 6. Log ride - not too bad, I like to relax on here 7. Rapid Ride - can be bumpy and the line can be slow, but beware to be wet on the pants 8. Woodstock Express - kiddie ride but not too bad 9. Snoopy's Rocket Express - relaxing ride 10. Racer 75 - can be bumpy, I did not get to race though 11. Backlot Stunt Coaster - rough and line moves slow as sometimes they run one train 12. Drop Tower - for some reason they only ran only half of the train 13. Flight of Fear - used to be fun, but gotton rough 14. Flying Ace - fun sort of like a mini version of Windseeker 15. Windseeker - a must ride, but need 8 people to ride, might be hard if there is rain 16. Tumbili - it is an alright ride, but I tend to get headaches I know there are more rides I have ridden on. I could not see any of the shows because it was during the week of when I went or cancelled during that day which sucked. If you are not afraid of heights, try the Effel Tower as it is fun to go outside. Overall, this is one of my favorite parks that I like to visit and enjoy coming here. A fun time at King's Dominion. I visited on a weekday with relatively light foot traffic. Considering the other amusement parks in the Mid-Atlantic region, Kings Dominion is one of the better amusement parks in terms of customer service, ride availability, food services, and park layout. I visited on a day in which the weather produced torrential rain, however, to my surprise the park remained open despite the gloomy forecast. Even the roller coasters were operational during the rain. I had never experienced riding a roller coaster in the rain, much less torrential rain, however, it was a fun experience. I was a bit apprehensive at first, seeing riders exit the roller coaster cars soaked from the rain, but the ride attendants and operators assured us the ride would be safe and even encouraged rider enthusiasm in anticipation of boarding the cars. Word of caution, if you are visiting the park on a day with inclement weather forecasted, anticipate the park to remain open unless there is forecast for major thunderstorms or hurricane. While in the park you'll spend time under covered shelter which will reduce your time actively experiencing the park. Since the park is not new, there are plenty older rides, however, there are newer rides strategically situated throughout the park. I purchased multiple Fast Lane passes and quickly realized after the first ride that it is not necessary during the week, even in the summer, as the park isn't so packed. Kings Dominion provides anticipated park volume on specific days, so consider this for planning purposes. I also purchased Preferred Parking for $40 which was a questionable upgrade. At my arrival and departure of the park, the Preferred Parking lot had ample spaces and so did the standard parking. One perk about Preferred Parking is depending on where you park in this area you can be within short walking distance of the main gate to enter the park. Overall a very good experience. read more

Right of the bat, employees are amazing and work as hard as they can to live up to the parks reputation. Rides were amazing and fun for those seeking either tame rides, or thrilling ones. Food was great (a bite pricey, though). The park is comparable to large mainstream parks such as Disney World and Universal. It's a lot more easier to navigate, not because it's a small park, but because the layout is great. It has its own retro, American charm that really adds to the welcoming vibe of the experience. Kings Dominion was once an old favorite. This visit was quite disappointing though. Cons.... The whole park seems to be in need of a good power washing and a coat of paint. Several rides were closed the two days that we went. The bathrooms were dirty, leaky and smelled horrible. The water park did nothing to spray down hot cement at entrances and exits of rides that required shoes be removed. The cement was HOT. The parking lot had gigantic holes in it. Pros There weren't that many people there. The arcade was air conditioned and nice to escape the heat. The laser show was awesome! The tower never disappoints. The new green coaster was as smooth as butter! Bush Garden is a better bet at this point. However, I'm rooting for Kings Dominion. I hope it's just a funky transition year and it gets some TLC soon under the new merger. read more

Came yesterday for a day in the park. Crowds and prices seemed reasonable for entry. We stayed at KOA so no parking issues since we did the shuttle (highly recommend the KOA). Not a ton of rides for the size of the park in my opinion. We had a 2 year old who couldn't ride much. She was free so I get it. We also had a 6 year old who is on the shorter side but loves thrills. She was unfortunately too short for a lot of the big rides. She enjoyed Apple Zapple which was the biggest thrill she could do for perspective (one drop and a bunch of jerking curves). My biggest issue was with food services. First, my FIL bought the all day pass to eat since he's celiac he figured it'd be easiest for him. However in 3 different buildings (despite being labeled in app and map GF) the workers looked at him as if they had no clue. The manager then handed him a book with dietary options and wiped his hands clean of it. It was very off putting. Then at another spot I wanted an extra cup for overflow of ice cream and they didn't want me to have that as if we were sharing. Like I get it but I have a 2 year old. Just a big difference in experience than some other happy places. Definitely not accommodating to guests and very profit driven. Maybe it'll be better for older kiddos in the future. The ride offerings are excellent, but the operations and guest services are abysmal and the rudest I have ever experienced at any business. If you buy Fast Lane Ultimate like I did, get ready to be ripped off, denied even a partial refund or credit. The website and app state a 90% shorter wait for Fast Lane Ultimate ($90 that day, because I wasn't available to go on other days). That is a laughable estimate. One of the operators let 5-6 parties from standby for every 1 fast lane party, the opposite of how this is supposed to work, but that's not the worst part. The worst part is that she had the audacity to be rude to me for no reason on top of that, and when I complained to guest services, they did not care. I understand if you can't offer a refund per policy, but a sympathetic response like what I used to give when I worked with customers would go a long way. Something like "I know. I'm sorry, but I cannot do anything about it." Instead, when I explained how I got ripped off for not getting anything close to what I paid for, Joanne from guest services said with a sarcastic tone, "I'm sorry you feel that way." Ahhh Spring and Fall weekends are so relaxing in the park. The crowds are non existent and the rides are basically walk on. Come early, see/ride it all and get out before the afternoon/ evening picks up. This will always be an iconic park near RVA. Recently it was bought by Six Flags. Will we see any updates? Looney tunes for instance?? Save yourself time and money and buy a refillable cup. Easy to carry and refill and fresh brewed iced teas can be found in some restaurants. It cuts the wait time for rides in half. You will need this extra time to wait in line for food. My children were able to get on FOUR RIDES while I waited in line ...for food. Other than that, it's an amusement park with basic amusement park inconveniences. I went for my birthday yesterday with a group of friends and my brother. We had bought tickets the previous week, and the weather looked fine, but it ended up storming some that day. Now, I know the safety requirements are unavoidable and the weather is uncontrollable, but I do have some peeves. Firstly, they were very slow to update the app. We walked halfway across the park only to be told Dominator was closed, when it was listed as open. I would expect some kind of update on the app or even from employees throughout the park, but we talked to 5 or 6 each of which said " I don't know, its upper managements decision". They ended up closing for 2 hours because of reoccurring lightning 9 miles away. But when rides began opening up, there were 3 which were still closed, with no specific reason provided when we asked. Also, pantherian. The main reason I even went was for pantherian, and it was marked as "temporarily closed" the entire day- before and after the weather. I get maintenance things happen, but just put it on the website or facebook or a reason on the app or ANYTHING! I do love the park though, the rides are fun and fastpass was totally worth it- with limited rides open, the lines increased greatly. They also ran some rides in the rain. Me and my friends went on Twisted Timbers in the rain, and as we were whipped up and down by the airtime hills we got pelted by the downpour, which was so awesome. Rapterra also reopened in the last 30 minutes of the park being open, and it was life changing. Overall lovely park, just some minor issues with communication to customers. I do reccomend, and I will be going again for the rides I missed. read more

So... I want to start this off by saying I worked 7 years in a theme park run by a mouse... I am not comparing it to that level. It's a regional theme park. If you only want the level that the mouse brings, don't go here. With that said, I love this park! I'm a transplant to the Virginia area from the land of fires (talk about a time dated review). We had a regional theme park that's under the same management in a buena park... more puns? This one is nicer in almost every way. Cleaner and shade a plenty. Rides are similar in nature to the standard flat rides and permanent carnival attractions. But the major rides are just better. Intimidator/Project/whatever the new jungle name is will probably go down as the most intense non-looping coaster I've been on. Like wow. There isn't a ride I went in that I didn't like. Ok the Tumbling one in the jungle isn't a tremendous value for your time but if its line is short, it's crazy fun. Twisted Timbers is the best RMC conversation I've been on. All in all, this park has value. It's not outrageously expensive, food is decent quality (for a theme park) but pricey. Plus its water park enters through the main park so one price for both. Let's face it, if you're local or plan on making a few trips in 2025, get a pass. It's a fun little (ok big in size but not in notoriety) park and worth a check out. Also, if anyone from the park reads this, STOP CLOSING RIDES WITHOUT NOTICE. I will never get the Anaconda credit (R.I.P. an Arrow legend) because I moved here recently and it was closed for rain when I last went during season. Will have to just make do with the Matterhorn, Gold Rusher, Space Mountain, Canyon Blaster (Might Be Gone Soon Too), Ninja, X2, Viper, Desperado credits by Arrow Dynamics. I have been to this amusement park so many times. Some years I had a season pass! With that being said, some of my favorite rides are the Dominator, Drop Tower, Flight of Fear, and the Intimidator. They used to have this ride called the Volcano. It's really sad that they got rid of that one it was also a favorite but also a very unique ride! No need for fast passes the lines do not take too long here. Not my favorite amusement park but still a good one. They have some really great roller coasters. There is also a section dedicated to younger children. The one thing that they lack compared to a lot of other amusement parks is theming. Does not bother me though. The water park here is pretty good as well! I recommend checking that out if you have time. read more

I visited Kings Dominion for the first time this past weekend on 4/26/25. Let me tell you, KD is a winning park! Upon entering I was greeted with a very relaxing and ambient soundtrack of movie scores and classical music. This set a great tone for the start of my day and a very, very, VERY, welcome change from the blaring pop music that greets you at a typical legacy Six Flags park. The great ambiance continued as I walked with my friend through the park's main entrance. The international themed "parkitecture" along with the nice fountains, and overall appearance spoke quality and cleanliness. I headed to Dominator first. This is one kick ass ride! The positive G's on that thing especially in the first and second turn around are great. It is a classic B&M and is glass smooth. The front seat ride I found superior to the back seat as you get a more forceful push through the final corkscrews which I liked. This is my personal favorite floorless coaster now, outdoing Medusa, Batman the Dark Knight and others I've ridden. Next my friend and I visited Jungle exhibition. The music again was very immersive and the thematic elements were consistent throughout the land. I found my ride on Tumbili to be average however the theming was great. Reptilian was a lot of fun and had good laterals especially during the last part of the downward helix leading into the upward helix. A very unique ride IMO. It is superior to the defunct Intiman single car bobsleds as this ride has superior drainage enabling it to be ridden on rainy days (which it was for a portion of the day). FOF had great theming and the ride was running well, on par with Joker's Jinx at SFA. On to Raptera. What I can say is wow! A very good ride. From the theming, to the efficient queue, to not being forced to pay for a locker, to the ride itself, this coaster is a definite win for the park! I noticed this ride has a thematic audio "outro" when leaving the station which was a fun way to build up to the launch. The launch itself was powerful and smooth. My favorite elements were that last airtime hill leading into the heartline roll. The rattle wasn't very pronounced on this ride. The only time I really felt any sort of a rattle was coming out of the top hat and during the Immelmann. While Raptera does not include the classic near miss moments found on other wing coasters, I still found it to be a high quality wing coaster and well worth multiple rides. I then moved onto Candy Apple Grove. I was greeted by the singing mushrooms as well as once again nice ambient music, this time to the tune of 1920's big bands! Based on appearance, flat ride collection, the music, and my personal love for apples , Candy Apple Grove is my favorite section of the park. I rode Racer 75 next, probably the best wooden racer I've been on. It also brought back memories of Rolling Thunder at SFGA for me, which gave it a nice added feeling of nostalgia. I then made my way over to Twisted Timbers. This ride was fantastic. It had a great theme, wonderful use of lockers (again don't have to pay for them) and didn't wait more than 20 minutes. The ride itself has a killer twisting/inverting first drop and a ton of negative airtime hills. It is a great RMC however I still have to give it to Wicked Cyclone as my favorite. Grizzly! Dang, what a surprise this ride was. It's tucked away in the right side of the park and quite a challenge to find the entrance to. However this ride packs A PUNCH. The ride has a smooth beginning and gets rougher as it goes, but not too rough to be unbearable. I went on a mid afternoon ride as well as a night ride. This ride hauls ass through that tunnel. To round out my day I rode Back lot stunt coaster, got re-rides on Dominator, Raptera, hit some of the flats, ate food and watched some live entertainment. The coasters had 2+ train operation and lines moved efficiently. There were large school groups in the park, but that did not detract from employee / park efficiency. Overall such a great experience! What really won me over in addition to the rides and theming was the fact that I was greeted with smiles from competent park employees. The employees on several occasions went out of their way to give a personal touch. I asked an attendant where the nearest ice cream location was from where I was standing and where I could get the "blue flavor". She pointed me in the right direction. What was even greater was that later on I saw that same employee, she remembered me and asked if I was able to get the ice cream. It's little things like this that go a long way in my book. This is a great park. I'd rank it 3rd on my list of cedar fair parks I've visited behind Kings Island and Cedar point (I have not visited Knott's). I will also say the experience here overall is superior to legacy Six Flags parks. We attended the park on Friday (4-18-2025) and the majority of food and drink locations are still not open. Thought by this time of the season there would have been more locations operating. With a large Good Friday crowd, the lines were awful for the few food and beverage locations that were open (i.e. over 2 hours for food and 45+ minutes to obtain a simple drink). We have been coming for many years, but this is crazy. It is though they are trying to squeeze any corporate profits before dumping it again or shutting it down. read more

DO NOT TAKE YOUR KIDS TO KINGS DOMINION FOR HALLOWEEN HAUNT. I took my little sister to Halloween Haunt because she wanted to see how it's like. Since I know they sell the "No Boo" necklaces for kids, I thought there would not be an issue. I got one for my sister, since it is her first time here. If you wear the "No Boo" necklace with the lights on, then the monsters will know not to scare you. It did NOT say that it is only for scare zones and not for haunted attractions. When my sister walked in the scare zones, the monsters did not scare her. However, when we got to the front of the line after waiting for more than 2 hours for one haunted attraction, the worker said that she was not allowed to have her necklace lights on. We were confused, but thought that maybe the attraction was not too scary to have a "No Boo" necklace. Not even more than a minute, my sister got scared and turned her necklace on. Then the monsters STILL scared her, and she cried. We went back to the entrance to exit the building. We went to the stand where you can purchase the "No Boo" necklace. The worker there said it is only for scare zones. We were extremely frustrated because the sign for the necklace specifically said that the monsters know not to scare you. After complaining, she said that we can go to guest services. Even if the worker is just a seller, she had terrible guest service. We went to the guest service and told them our issue. Firstly, the monsters should know better to not scare her since she has a necklace on. Secondly, the sign NEEDS to be SPECIFIC about how the necklace is ONLY FOR SCARE ZONES. A simple refund on the necklace is NOT a solution. Then the guest service called a supervisor, named Rachel, to help with our situation. She was very nice and empathetic. She gave my sister a coupon for free cotton candy. She apologized and called for Jack, the entertainment manager. Unsurprisingly, the customer that was behind us had a similar situation as us, having monsters scaring their kid with the necklace on. When we talked to Jack, he apologized, said he would talk to the actors, and that they would change the "No Boo" sign. Extremely irritated, I asked if there was anything else they can do, since they scarred my sister. Jack said he cannot do anything in his power. My sister ended up NOT SLEEPING and had PANIC ATTACKS throughout Saturday night. She felt so sick that she could not even out on Sunday or go to school. I called Kings Dominion on Sunday and they said they will email me. I have been waiting patiently and no email has come to my inbox. This customer service experience has been awful, with no progress as I fight for my sister. No child should ever have this experience. The necklace was not advertised correctly and now my sister is scared to sleep and go out. They cannot take back the horrific experience we dealt with. We also did not get a refund for the useless necklace. read more

My company rented out the park for the day and it was such a good experience. We had great food and rode awesome rides. The staff was more friendly than I remember amusement park staff being and the lines were short, but that is probably because it was rented out. Great park just outside of Richmond! read more

I got stuck on delirium. We got on the ride as normally, but it swayed back and forth longer then normal, very slowly coming to a stop. I yelled to my dad standing nearby "we are fucking stuck!" As me and my friends were starting to panic. They gave an announcement "we are aware of the issue and technicians are on the way" it felt very unsympathetic. We were left confused and unreassured. I happened to have my phone in my pocket and recorded the technicians when they showed up. I was told to put my phone away which i asked why to, it felt like they didnt want me to record. As soon as they got in the back room of felt like it took them no time to fix it. The staff manning the ride were simply untrained and incompetent. A total of 20 minutes trapped. As we were walking out there was no "sorry", no sympathetic words, nothing. I was upset and went to guest services to complain, where I was given a 1 time fast pass. Kings Dominion is a great deal for military season passes. Definitely recommend going during the week to avoid the need for a fast pass; however, I went on a Friday and Saturday and even Saturday was not that long of lines for rides. Some had no lines. The app helps you gage what rides to go to next. I did not go to the waterpark on this occasion, but I have been before and it is a lot of fun, again, if you can go on a day that is less busy. With a season pass the cost of coming isn't so bad HOWEVER either lower the price of your food or improve the quality of your food. $20 for a COLD , HARD, DRY chicken tender entree with the option of a side. I asked how long the food was sitting but the fella was clueless and couldn't provide an answer. The chaperone policy (which I support) requires me to be here but KD is missing an opportunity to have 1. Decent food for parents 2. A lounge area with beverages, food, books, tv. read more
