    Fried Cod Fish
    Abby L.

Let's start this review off by saying my entire family is OBSESSED with Walid's. We tried it for the first time when I became a homeowner this past year and I needed to feed my moving crew. I got enough food to feed 8 people and it was less than $100 which is unbeatable for the quality of the food. We love it! I ordered the same menu items this past weekend and both times I've ordered here it's been incredible. We got the big family pan of chicken and the big family pan of cod fish. Both were super fresh, crispy, and flavorful. The fries were just coming out of the fryer when we arrived, so we had no doubts they'd also be delicious. For the price and how amazing the food is at Walid's, it's easy to say we have a local favorite that we will visit time and time again. I'd recommend this spot to anyone looking for some great fried comfort food!

Very poor service. Limited selection unless you want a heart because everything is fried. They are definitely in need of a menu upgrade.

Hole in the wall fried fish and chicken. Perfectly fried and moist fish. It was quite good and I would definitely go back again.

Upon entering, I greeted with a friendly smile and a warm welcome from one of the owners, Shay. They have very extensive menu and had a nice variety of food available. There are two benches available to sit down on and wait for you order; however, this is purely a to-go spot, so there were not any dining tables. The prices are consistent with similar restaurants in the city, plus the portions are huge, so no complaints there. Now let's talk food! First, let me say they had some of meatiest, juiciest, lamb chops I've had from a restaurant in a while. Cooked to order, tempature of choice, and flavored sooooo well. Let's get into these candied yams y'all. Bravo to the chef, he made them perfect! Sweet and soft through every bite, and not one ounce of bitterness or crunchiness. We came at the end of night so we missed the Mac and cheese, but I will make sure to come early next time. If you are looking for a place with a little soul and seafood, check them out. You will not regret it!!!

We stopped before going to an event at the Roxian Theater. The place is big. they have a decent size bar. There's a darts game and some other games, outdoor covered patio, they also have a banquet room besides their main dining room. Our waitress was really sweet but service was slow. The menu is huge. Lots of options for all ages crowd, families and there were some vegetarian options as well. We ordered food to share. the calamari appetizer which tasted OK, but some of the pieces weren't cooked thoroughly so they were really rubbery. We also ordered the blackberry salmon which again was tasty, but the salmon was overcooked. And both of our side salads were drenched with dressing and must've sat in the back for at least 20 min. to the point the lettuce was soggy. I don't know if this was just an for the kitchen staff but food wise was not the best especially for a $45 bill!

We were seated right on time, but the experience rapidly went downhill from there. Despite the high price tag and upscale atmosphere, the meal felt ridiculously rushed. Our appetizers arrived a mere five minutes after ordering. Worse, while we were still actively eating them, the server attempted to clear our plates to make room for the main courses. By 7:50 PM--just 35 minutes into our reservation--our entrees were already hitting the table. For a fine dining establishment, being pushed to finish in under an hour is completely unacceptable. When we asked them to hold the entrees for 15 minutes so we could actually breathe and enjoy our appetizers, the kitchen clearly just left our food sitting under heat lamps. My pasta primavera turned into a heavy, mushy pile of goo, and my husband's chicken was noticeably cool to the touch by the time it reached us. We were so turned off by the rushed service and ruined food that we left before even looking at a dessert menu. Stunning views and a reputation for excellence don't make up for bad pacing and subpar food. Extremely disappointing for the price.

Our cocktails were subdued but very tasty. First we were served a pea soup shooter--we all wanted a whole bowl. Then a couple of appetizers--the 'compressed pineapple' with frisse was interesting with a flavorful dressing, but not too sweet. I got the special, seared tuna with a shrimp over udon noodles and a Hoisin sauce with some sort of wasabi. Again, the flavors were unique but not overpowering. Also got the chicken with couscous and peas. Sounds plain but it was anything but plain. The other mains were just as good. We finished off with three desserts. The carrot cake got rave reviews from my dining partners (not my style). The Creme Brulle was very large and perfectly cooked. But the best dessert was the deconstructed Smore. The chocolate, the merengue, the graham crumbs, a little ice cream. Oh, I'm going to be dreaming of this dessert for a long time! The price is also quite high for pittsburgh standards--over 100/person--but well worth it for a special occasion!

Where're arrived, the place was packed. That evening, with a band, and full house, they only had 2 bartender/ waitresses, and 1 cook in the kitchen. We ordered a pizza and cheese steak as soon as we got there and didn't receive it for 1 1/2 hours. The food was very good and pizza fresh. Being a past owner of a bar, I would think the owner would have more help in the kitchen and on the floor. We were told that the owner was sitting, listening to the music, and not offering to help the staff. We really enjoyed the live music, the food, and the drinks. But we felt sorry for the staff having to put up with the large crowd. Therefore, I must give the owners a 1 star for his lack of management skills. Kudos to the 3 staff members, one being the owner's wife , the solitary cook in the kitchen.

I wound up walking two blocks downhill to a park with benches. Second, that all orders are cooked to order and take 25 minutes. Fortunately there is a branch of the Pittsburgh Public Library across the street and it was open, so that occupied my time. The food: the chicken and catfish are fried in light crispy breading, very fine. The chicken wingettes were delicious. The catfish was not easily flaked and was ever so slightly rubbery, which would have been a very bad sign if it had been any more so. But it wasn't too bad. Green beans are a good side dish at this sort of joint, and these were good, seasoned with meat and sautéed onions mixed in. The white rice was entirely plain but tasty.
