Wow! What a great sandwich!…read more My wife and I visited Pittsburgh for the first time on July 30th, 2026. This is gonna sound crazy, but we stopped in for a sandwich at 9:00 a.m.!!! They've been around since 1933 and when you walk in you can feel the history. The walls are covered with painted caricatures of famous locals. This place is an institution. My wife and I sat at the counter and ordered a roast beef sandwich. All sandwiches come topped with tomatoes, coleslaw, and french fries. Yes, you read that correctly, they pile fresh cut fries onto all their sandwiches! The sandwich was massive and delicious! We are so happy we sought this place out and you will be too! Seek it out!

I was excited to try this famous Pittsburgh sandwich spot, but unfortunately, the overall…read moreexperience fell a little short--mainly because of the service. There was no line when we arrived, yet the wait for our food was surprisingly long, and service throughout the meal wasn't particularly attentive. I ordered the pastrami and cheese, and, the sandwich itself was excellent. The pastrami was moist and flavorful, and the coleslaw was easily another highlight--fresh, crisp, and really good. The fries, however, were a bit soggy and didn't do much for me. I was also surprised to find a piece of plastic wrap in my sandwich, which was definitely concerning. Also the sandwich is so loaded that it quickly soaks through the parchment paper. A tray or plate would make the experience much less messy. Glad I got to try such an iconic Pittsburgh spot, and the pastrami lived up to the hype, but the service and a few details kept it from being the experience I was hoping for.

My first trip to Pittsburgh meant a lot of firsts, including my first meal in the city…read more After a 3:30 AM wake-up call and a flight into Pittsburgh, my 18-year-old travel companion Jackson and I were more than ready for lunch. Normally I travel with his dad so this trip was a little different. Jackson has heard plenty of stories about all the places his father and I have eaten over the years, so this time I handed him the responsibility of picking our first restaurant. Working downtown, we needed something close by and landed at RedBeard's Sports Bar & Grill. The short walk through downtown Pittsburgh was interesting, but the weather was another story. Hot, humid, and muggy. By the time we arrived, the restaurant was busy and only outdoor seating was available. We took a table outside but asked if we could move indoors when something opened up. Our server, Lauren, was fantastic from start to finish. Friendly, attentive, and she made sure we were well taken care of. I let Jackson choose the appetizer and he knocked it out of the park with the mozzarella sticks. Crispy on the outside, loaded with gooey melted cheese on the inside, and paired with a very good marinara sauce. Definitely a strong start to the meal. Jackson and I quickly came to the same conclusion: air conditioning exists for a reason. Patio dining has its place, but a hot and humid Pittsburgh afternoon isn't it. Thankfully, we were able to move inside once a table became available. For my meal, I ordered the Reuben, one of my go-to sandwiches whenever I see it on a menu. RedBeard's version didn't disappoint. Plenty of corned beef, good flavor throughout, and everything worked well together. I requested my fries well-done with no seasoning, and they came out exactly the way I like them. Jackson went with the Inside-Out Grilled Cheese and was thrilled with his choice. Judging by how quickly it disappeared, I'd say it was a winner. I don't know when I'll find myself back in Pittsburgh, but I enjoyed both the restaurant and the downtown atmosphere. Good food, excellent service from Lauren, and a solid first dining experience in the city. 4 stars from me. I'd happily stop back in the next time work brings me to Pittsburgh.

I have had everything on the menu more than once and nothing had ever been disappointing. Therefore, it came as a shock when we learn they are were closing for a while. Knowing how long it took them reopen some of their other restaurants, we are a bit sad. Maybe they will make it a little less dark inside which would be great. Sometimes it is a bit too lick like a club in there. Also perhaps they could add the octopus tacos to Tako Torta ! We visited for one last hoorah last weekend. The octopus wasn't on the menu but after checking with our waitress, they still had a few. We got both this one and then queso! I got chips for the queso since I don't do gluten and then corn tortillas with the tacos. The octopus was well cooked as usual. I had a frozen pain killer which was great. See you soon I hope!

Tacos come in a serving of 2 per order, but they are fairly large so this is enough Their namesake is their octopus taco. I got this, chips & guacamole, + their passionfruit beverage. Surprisingly I had never been to a Shake Shack before but I loved this version at the Terminal. 15 tables. No front counter to order. It feels impersonal to some, but it felt efficient and purposeful to me. The order kiosks were so well done with the options pictured well, descriptions of every click, and the ability to customize to exactly what you want. Take a number, find a seat, and they bring it right to you!! Even with almost every table full, the food was out quickly. We ordered the: - West Coast Burger - delicious option with caramelized onions and cheese that paired perfectly with the burger patty - Avocado Bacon Chicken - THE crispiest chicken that I've ever had on a sandwich!!! I fell in love at the crispy crunch. - Onion Rings - fresh onions with a perfectly applied batter and their own custom ranch dip cup They also have a self serve water tap like a modern cafe. We had a conversation and she asked what I do for a living. I said I work for a Sheriff's Office. She said, "you know all cops are bastards right?' I told her my agency primarily works as a jail. She asked me how I felt about working at a modern day concentration camp and threw out some statements about how jails release people with nowhere to go and with no shoes. I told her I can't speak for other agencies but that my agency was very progressive and we don't do that. I asked her what we should do with violent people as an alternative to jail and she said, "that's your job to figure out.' I explained some of the services we offered to mitigate her concerns and how someone may make a mistake and end up in jail and how we offer wrap around services pre and post release to mitigate that such as programs and halfway homes. She said that was a good thing. Her fellow bartender asked her to make a drink for her and the bartender left for the backroom for 10 or so minutes. She came back but didn't seem interested in conversation so I left. Quite discouraging. You can't base all of your knowledge about jail and prison on Orange is the New Black, Oz and the Shawshank Redemption. We have people out there that care and genuinely want to make a difference and help people at their lowest.
