What is with the terribly cheap paper bags? No handles, rip at the drop of a hat, and can't hold much. I pay way too much money for my groceries to not be able to get a decent bag that doesn't rip before I get to the car, or before the Instacart deliverer makes it to my front door for drop off. Something has got to give. I know that Safeway can do better. As for the service and cleanliness, always decent. No issues there, but fix the bag situation, please. read more

This review is specific to an experience my husband had this afternoon, around 4:15. He was in line at self-checkout, and the man in front of him was buying some beers and burger buns--things for the Superbowl (today). He finishes, then picks up his paper bag by the handles, and the bag breaks. The beers shatter when they hit the ground, and there are glass shards and beer all over the floor. The self-checkout supervisor at the time was with someone who appeared to be a manager (?). Instead of apologizing or offering to help, the manager (or perhaps just entitled fellow employee) turned to the self-checkout employee and said, "Didn't you tell him not to carry the bag by the handles?" And then walks away!! This move was especially egregious because the employee supervising the self-checkout appeared to be someone with special needs! Blaming this employee for the problem was not only absurd, but actually abusive. The customer with the broken bag was left to try to clean up the broken glass himself (!), while my husband stood there pleading to the thin air, "Can someone please help this man?" Honestly, I think we all know Safeway isn't the classiest place to shop, but this experience was revolting. I couldn't find an appropriate place on the Safeway web site to complain about the event, so I'm relegated to using Yelp. read more

Safeway had posted a deal to buy chips mix and match at 1.99 when you buy five when we reviewed our receipt the chips cost more than twice as much when we asked, they gave multiple reasons as to why we didn't get the deal . First reason not the right mix not true next reason was the price takes effect tomorrow yet the prices were posted every where in the store. Safeway does this all the time watch your recites we catch them all the time . We returned the chips when they didn't honor their posted price. By far the rudest cashier I've experienced in a long time... I was trying to be a nice person and allow the guy behind me to go first since he only had a few things... the cashier had an ear bud or something in his ear and obviously didn't hear me say that, started ringing up my items and I asked him to cancel it so the other guy could pay, and his response was, "Well, I've already rang up like 4 items" (yes 4 can goods)... i I said that's totally fine, we can cancel it and let the other guy go... and he literally told me No, that he'd have to call a manager for that a d just kept ringing up my items... I was totally blown away, and mentioned that was not cool and not good customer service and he said, "Whatever"... Crazy to me, how disconnected some people can be... Way to kill a good deed, Mr. John (Cashiers name). I felt bad, the other guy, had to go around the aile and get back in line behind me.. Thankfully it was just us. He appeared to be embarrassed. It was only 8pm and they already out of all the roasted chickens... Beyond that, this place has great gourmet and organic food options, as well as a decent wine selection. read more

This store is a pleasant trip anytime one needs to get groceries. They stock during the night, which is nice as you don't get disrupted during your shopping trip. I came in to return some cough drops that I bought at another Safeway, no receipt or Safeway account. Danielle helped me out and exchanged them for another type of cough drop with no trouble. Minus a star because the gas station seems to have many pumps out frequently and also runs out of gas completely about once a month. This Safeway also is missing many goods and amenities others have. Mostly the workers are friendly. I've had a few times I've had unwanted attention or comments from men working here. Sometimes I get unwanted attention or comments from strange men and the employees do not help me despite me standing in front of them. I would probably avoid it if you want good service, but it's clean and usually quiet and no one's there. read more

Although this Safeway is very close to my home, I will drive out of my way to avoid shopping at this location. This store has the worst customer service, as well as higher prices than its competition. I have often been overcharged on advertised sale items and charged prices that don't reflect the price of the item on the shelf. When I call out these discrepancies to an employee, it is met with utter indifference. Produce quality is sub par and the freshness is questionable. I have often had to return items the same day, such as bagged kale, because it was soggy and brown. Meat selection and quality is also very disappointing. Many times they were either out of what I was looking for, or what they had looked like it should be thrown out. Lastly, there is never enough check stands open. read more

This Safeway for the location should have top service. Unfortunately , it begins with a parking lot. It's difficult to find a parking spot. The carts are difficult to return in the cart areas. It seems like the shoppers as well as the employees are angry. There's no security person to monitor what happened to me the other day. I have a disabled plaque in my car, and I was approached by a elderly woman who basically asked me why I thought I needed a plaque when I could walk just fine. I have knee implants, I've had cancer in the past and it's taken me 10 years to be able to get out of my car without being in pain. This woman was angry and nasty. A week later I went and talked to an employee to see if others have been harassed by this woman. She basically told me that they don't have security there and no one complained. They do have security cameras. This store has a major problems that they choose to ignore. As a result someone like this horrible old lady feels comfortable harassing disabled people. It's unfortunate because this is a great location for a grocery store. But clearly there's something wrong, there's no security, there's a problem with produce , yes sometimes it's not up to par and the employees are poorly staffed. read more

Had a $24 item I needed to return and the most senior managers of this store couldn't find a way to refund me because I didn't have a receipt. My family has been shopping at this location since it opened pretty much exclusively. We've literally spent tens of thousands of dollars here over the years. And the ONE time I go to return something, they act like I'm trying to rip them off or pull a fast one on them over a $24 item. I wasn't even asking for cash in return, I would've gladly taken a store credit or gift card or whatever. Absolutely f'n ridiculous. This location just lost a long time customer over 24 bucks. Pathetic. I'd suggest going elsewhere. Update: I took this item to the Safeway right down the street (less than 3 miles away) and the manager there promptly returned my item and gave me a cash refund. No questions asked. No accusatory vibe. Just wham bam, here's your money and have a nice day . Shows you how ridiculous the El Dorado Bass Lake location really is. What happened to our Safeway here in Serrano?this place is a mess!! Every time I come almost half of the perishables that I pick up and look at in the meat department and the produce area is expired or one day away from expiring then they go to these paper bags with the handles with no glue. I don't know how many times the handles have come off while I'm trying to get stuff into the car into the house then they come out with paper bags that have no handles but cheap paper and they tear when you grab them by the top. They never have enough people working the registers, usually one maybe two registers the manager here needs to be fired and the corporate needs to be contacted which I'm going to do this place is horrible. It's almost like Gavin Newsom is running it. It couldn't be more of a mess. I go into the Safeway as least often as I can. Nobody here to help you anytime they'll have 15 people stand in there and one cashier and nobody to bag the groceries. Their prices are outrageous and from what I understand, there's two contracts, an old contract and a new contract and a new contract. They don't make very much money so they don't really care. I know the store very well and it's been garbage ever since I've gone in there not sure who manages this store. So anybody that thinks that Safeway gives one lick about them, you should check yourself because they don't care if you have to stand in line for three hours they could care less. They're all about the money that's all Safeway is and they make tons of it already so it's just the greedy wanting more money. You walk out of there with two bags of groceries and it's 110 bucks??? I received a 9 month old smoothie in my online grocery order. The bottle looked like it was about to explode and left a green residue in the bottle. Thank god my kids didn't drink the smoothie. The food expiration should be checked more frequently and should not be put in online orders, nor should be left on the shelf. They do have some old school type crew that jump on and work at a good pace processing orders through the check-stands and others that just seem miserable and could not work any slower. Seems very much like horrible moral and lack of strong management. For a marquis store in the suburbs of El Dorado County some of these employees act like they hate their job and are working in the worst conditions possible. Just left the store today on a Saturday and heard all about a checker and courtesy clerk calling in sick and the staff that was there having to fill in.......Uh yes, it is called work. There was only one express and one regular checkout cashier. The customer lines were ridiculously long. I've been shopping here since the store opened, I'm a vegetarian who purchases a lot of produce, and over the past few months I have witnessed a total decline in product with fruits and vegetables being consistently wilted, rotten and moldy. I thought it might be due to lack of employees attending to the produce, but not the case, as I saw two employees stocking shelves next to the rotten produce and not taking it off the shelf. The last two trips to the produce department yielded the same results. Pharmacy at this store made a serious mistake when filling a prescription that proved very costly to me . While questioning the pharmacist on duty the error was proven, however, he spoke rapidly and rudely to me and was very defensive while blaming my doctor's office for not cancelling the older prescription as well as my failure to spot the error in a more timely manner. I usually shop for groceries at this store after picking up my prescriptions, however , I have now transferred my medications out of this pharmacy and will not be shopping here in the future. read more

Today was a full shopping experience at this location. Went because received a ten dollar off fifty dollar or more. Store bright and clean (hello new store). Noted that several of same items were located throughout the store. Perhaps when you go quickly through a store. impulse items or last minute? I ordered a small cake for a wedding and told them... ALL WHITE CAKE WITH WHITE ROSES and silver sprinkles! When I picked it up there were bright green leaves and no silver sprinkles. I really like the store. The people are nice, the selection is always good. However, the parking is awful. I appreciate small businesses and their success, but they're building even more businesses in an area that can't accommodate the parking. Super friendly kind employees 2. Nice discount on gas at already great prices 3. A few years ago we were truly thankful when we found out there was going to be a new Shopping center in our community when we moved here from the Bay Area. I had a fun conversation with Caleb and Alisa when I wore one of my hand made face masks using The Office theme fabric one day. Hubby and I had a enjoyable discussion about the 49ers with Tim and Melissa also is friendly and welcoming as well! There are numerous positive and friendly experiences however these are the names and memories I recall at this moment. The flower department is also another beautiful section I enjoy browsing through when visiting family or friends and wanting to bring a fresh beautiful and colorful bouquet of flowers or a house plant to their home. Everyone for the most part seems to be happy overall here and we can always count on getting assistance when we need to with a positive and friendly personality which has always been greatly appreciated.
