While driving back down the mountain from Placerville yesterday, my husband and I decided to stop in to Fork Lift to grab some groceries for the week. I remember visiting Fork Lift like 10 years ago and really liking it - it is a sister store of Nugget Market I believe. The inside was massive, clean and well organized. My husband and I wanted to buy one of everything! Their produce section had every fruit and vegetable imaginable - it was also very visually aesthetically pleasing! I loved seeing their bulk spices, nuts, teas and candy options! Their butcher shop and fish section looked very fresh and can we talk about their massive cheese selections!? I was very impressed and they even had my favorite coffee for sale which is hard to find - the Blue Bottle Nola milk cartons. Overall, this would be my grocer of choice if we lived in the area - check out staff was also very friendly! Check them out! read more

I do like this store and they have a great selection of products. However, when I went there with a coupon that was mailed to me. They were out of the item that was on sale and refused to do a substitute which I actually understand. What I did not like was when I asked the checker if there were substitutes, the scowling look that he gave me. I asked him if there were substitutions, and he ignored me. So I asked him no comment? To which replied" whatever, it is what it is." I would have been happy to accept a much more gracious.Yes very sorry that we're out. Can you say urban cool? Maybe even hipster. Utilitarian. Yes, I am talking a grocery store! Fork Lift. Brought to you by the family-owned, upscale and very successful, Nugget chain of grocery stores. I became very well acquainted with the Nugget markets living in Davis. There were two stores not far from each other and they were always packed. I shopped at the smaller one as it was closer to my home. It is literally the only place I ever shopped for food.I cannot imagine shopping anywhere else. When I moved to El Dorado Hills 5 years ago... thank goodness there was a big and beautiful Nugget a mile and half away. My point is all Nugget markets are quite incredible. Nothing compares to them. Excellent quality, in-house prepared food, bakery... TDF, floral, meat department, liquor, and fabulous fresh produce section. Fork Lift is to me like the Nugget markets on steroids! I was astonished at the size of the store and cool inside architectural design. Yes it is hip! Super clean, well stocked in everything. Organized. Quite impressive. And the same great departments as I mentioned above that are available in the Nugget stores are right here too! The chatter is that the Fork Lift offers many discounted prices but honestly, I never see them. Then I heard the lower priced items are strategically placed in and around the store. Who knows. I enjoy taking the drive up the hill to Cameron Park occasionally just to wander around and marvel at this shopping mecca! Easy exit off the freeway and fast to find. Plenty of parking. Worth checking out if you are in the area or on the way to or returning from Tahoe. Did I mention super duper customer service!?! And weekly specials! Great store out here past the big city's. Very organized and the layout is easy to manage and navigate!! They have a very good assortment of brews to try and adult beverages as well. Am I the victim of a bait and switch in the meat dept? Went in to purchase some Piedmontese ground beef. The meat clerk approached me and talked me into buying the ribeye steak he had just ground because it was much better. And, it was less expensive. He printed out the tag at ribeye steak price. $30 for a pound of ground beef. read more

Still luvin grocery shopping here. The produce is super fresh. The groceries brands and quantities are well stocked. The pricing is reasonable. The staff is welcoming and helpful. The interior design and look is clean and modern making it even a more enjoyable experience. The organic produce selection is significant compared to most other grocery stores. Love this offshoot of the Nugget Market. Comparing the two, they seem very similar to me. The produce section sometimes features local produce which I appreciate. The selection of specialty items is impressive. So many varieties of hummus, jams, canned tomatoes, etc. While I don't eat cheese (I miss it soooo much!) the selection makes me want to break my no-dairy rule. Very cool wine selection. There are some gems here that you wouldn't necessarily find at other grocery stores. Case in point, found an amazing malbec from Argentina that was less than $10. Tonight I found a 2020 Napa Cab that was retailing for $30 that is now $12 due to the line being discontinued. I had to try it straight away to see if it was worth stocking up on. Verdict: it's good, but I was expecting more. Their ready-made salad section is worth checking out as well. It's a nice break from the Safeways and Raleys in the area. Service is super friendly and you never know what you'll find! read more

Stopped here with my husband to grab some sandwiches on the way to Lake Tahoe. It brought back so many memories of when we used to work at Whole Foods 20 years ago. This store is absolutely gorgeous. They had a ton of delicious looking things in the bakery to choose from. Countless amounts of specialty and gourmet cheeses. I even got to try goat cheese fudge! Sounds weird I know, but it was delicious. The customer service was outstanding, and every single person we talked to was just so polite and cheerful. We were there on a Sunday and as I mentioned we were getting sandwiches. Well, it being Sunday afternoon, they were out of quite of a lot of items, which is fine, because obviously everything is fresh! We ended up getting the Bahn Mi sandwich, which was delicious, but I don't recommend getting it on a baguette because it was very hard to bite into. Still flavorful but needs a softer bread. We also got a salad from the salad bar and a vegan Thai peanut salad. Outstanding!! Full disclosure. We ended up spending about $75 on two sandwiches a couple salads and a couple little snacks. But you definitely get what you pay for and everything was absolutely amazing. I have to take my mom up this way next week, and literally when she asked me, I said oh yeah, I'm definitely gonna take you because I can stop at forklift for lunch! read more

Every once in a while, I drive all the way out from Folsom to shop at Fork Lift. Fork Lift is like... if Nugget and Food 4 Less had a baby, it would be Fork Lift. The floor plan is mostly warehouse style, but they are owned by, and carry many of the same products as Nugget. They can be on the expensive side, but they also have really good sales. But, the main reason I come here is because they carry so many of my favorite items that I can't find anywhere else. Fork Lift is one of the few local stores who still carry Tucson Tamales, which I love. They're the only place I know of that carries my favorite variety of Creamwich, as well as my favorite flavor of McConnell's Ice Cream. They carry all of my favorite flavors of Pellegrino, as well as A' Siciliana Limonata di Sicilia (IYKYK). The candy selection is also great, and includes Franz, Chao, Lake Chamberlain, Charles Chocolates, and many more. They used to carry Ettore's pastries, but now the pastries say "artisan bakery." Darn. Guess I'll have to drive all the way out to Sacramento to satisfy my Princess Cake craving. The staff is really funny. While I was browsing for Princess Cake, an employee in the bakery asked if she could get me anything. When I said no, she said, "You're good. Don't worry. I deny myself this stuff every day." I laughed way too hard at that. When I stopped by the other day, I noticed that they carry a selection of jarred Calabrian peppers, which I had recently been searching for. Now I know where I can find more when I run out. The produce, bakery, and deli items are all fresh and legit. The parking lot is huge, and they have a really cute covered outdoor seating area. Forklift has so many varieties of foods & products that you can literally spend several several hours looking through every isle. Their fresh fish, meats, & cheeses, are the best! My favorite grocery store in the vicinity of Placerville! Staff is always happy, friendly and helpful. Lots of room in the isles. There gourmet and health selection is the best. They carry Pasture Bird Chicken. They stock a lot of local products. The check out is usually fast and lots of room if there is a line. No getting smashed into the isle or blocking traffic. They do it different, I just with it was closer to Placerville! read more

It's always a treat to shop at forklift. The store is kept very nicely stocked and clean. The people working. The produce department always greets you with a smile as well as every other department. I'm grateful that they have butchers in their meat department to help with special effects that I've ordered in the past. Some think it might be an expensive store while it is if you're looking for something special, but for the most part, if you shop their sales you'll find they come in a little bit less than the big box grocery stores. We were staying at a local Bed & Breakfast in the area and wanted to try to take advantage of the kitchen that was available for us to use back at the room. We purchased Croissants Oreo cake Chili Man Miso tofu soup Hot and Sour soup Egg salad Brie cheese Chamomile Bubble Bath Kind of a random shopping excursion, but this store was very boutique and convenient. Prices were OK. Not that cheap, but that's to be expected. All of the items purchased helped our staycation to feel a little more intimate and relaxed. They mail out their flyers a week early, stack up the sale itens, but then don't honor the prices until a date in tiny print on the flyer, tricking customers into buying the items at full price. And Fork Lift's full price is 10%-20% higher than Safeway or Bel Air. They will find a way to vacuum out your wallet if they can. AVOID! read more

Excellent Holiday Meals. Even the Vegan meal was good. Trust them with your holiday. Ordering, pick up, packaging, boxing, warming, eating, and no bake Ware to wash. Everything came out beautiful and delicious. The vegan entree tasted as good as it looked. Guess who won't be cooking the holiday meal, as long as they do it for me. We usually shop at Walmart and Safeway, but decided to ship here last week.. the place is clean, well stocked and has a variety of goods for all to appreciate... Also the staff is helpful and eager to help.. we did find their prices to be on the higher side for somethings, but over all ok. At ck out, I noticed two items that were on sale, not ring up as sale items.. I told the staff, who said he'd have someone go CK the price... I showed him their flyer, with the sale price and he did change it.... It was about a 1.50 difference... I need every penny .. Always CK the prices, they don't always ring true! read more

Probably my favorite grocery store! Amazing product selection, high quality meat and produce, and super helpful and genuinely friendly employees. The bakery is awesome, though some items are really expensive (like $10 for 6 bagels, yikes!). They also make their own pan dulce, which is delicious. We have also ordered a custom cake online and it was a seamless process and tasted very good. It's the only local store I have been to that sells such a variety of specialty ingredients mixed in with brand name staples. Highlights for me include the vast imported pasta assortment, large selection of chiles and spices, and aisles stocked with random ingredients, like Lyle's Golden Syrup or bulk tamarind. It's pretty much a foodie paradise but with reliably good customer service! read more

Bought a "premium" raspberry satin cake from the Forklift bakery for my husband's birthday and was very disappointed. $40 for one small layer topped with nasty, greasy whipped topping mixed with artificial raspberry flavor and coloring and the whole mess had a thin layer of waxy, "ganache" poured over it. Very poor excuse for a cake! The sticker on the side had a long list of chemicals and other unwholesome ingredients including dried eggs. My throat was burning after eating a few bites. If you want a cake, make it yourself or go to a reputable bakery! read more

It's a great grocery store. Large but with fantastic selection. The items are very diverse. For example, I was impressed by their extensive hot sauce options or their many delicious pies to the fresh produce. Service is friendly and straightforward.
