We were in Memphis for only one night and hit Beale Street; the whole street was lively as ever even for a Thursday night. The Tap Room had a band playing some great music so we poked our head in. A-OK (3 stars). We were wandering Beale St. and this place struck as inviting. It had draft beer options, and some open seats, so in we went. We sat at a small table near the front door, and listened to the band for a bit. My brother bought a couple or wristbands, which I think acted as cover for this place, and I think, other places. This info came after a few beers, so I didn't quite get the concept. From our seats, we noticed a door in the wall, and as we watched people walk through it, thought we heard more music. I think we just found the cafe, as where we started was not a very good place for food. From this building we noticed tables and chairs out front, and this was the find of the night. My brother and I could now enjoy live music and watch the action on Beale St. Perfect. Tempted make this four stars, but since we did not dine here, I am reluctant to do so. Bottom line: OK, 4 stars. On the other hand, those who desire quick bar service, this is not your place. There was one bartender and it took at least 20 minutes to place an order. A friend and I made this our base of operation a long night of drinking on Beale street. What caught out attention at first was it had one of the only open walk up "beer to go" bars we could find. Secondly the music was outstanding. This girl was absolutely blowing up the fiddle. Killin' it!! The bartender was extremely nice and informative about the area and sights to see. The place got crowded in waves. As soon as the band would take a break there would be almost nobody in the entire bar with in the next fave to ten minuets. The band would start back up and the place would fill up quickly. After about 8pm there was a 3 dollar cover to keep the riff-raff out... On another note, the restrooms. The mens was so bad. It was literally right behind the stage, so the sound was completely deafening. The door didn't lock let alone shut. I walked in on at least two people and visa versa. Kinda embarrassing. But hell, after a couple drinks nobody really cares any more. This is a great bar and music venue. Just be a little weary of the rest room and stay safe. read more

OK- THIS REVIEW IS FOR THE RESTAURANT, NOT THE TAP ROOM. We were walking Beale Street and decided to stop in. There was a BB Kingesque guy playing electric guitar and singing popular songs accompanied by a recorded bass line and drum machine. The ambiance was good and relaxed. The air conditioning was great on a hot night. The "Championship" gumbo was very good. The Memphis hot wings were mildly spicy and served Chinese style intact from drum to flat to wingtip. The dipping sauce was unique-- similar to ranch, and it was good. Everyone, from child to adult, LOVED the dry ribs. They had a sweet, crispy, outer rind and were tender inside. Perfectly cooked and executed. I've had ribs everywhere in the world, and maybe these were the best. The fried green tomatoes were good. The red sangria was bad. Very bad. Stick with the cold beer. I think I'll remember this meal with my wife and kids for a long time. read more

This place is not your typical bar on Beale...that is both a good and bad thing. Let me be clear, it is a dive bar for sure. And it is one of the few places that still allows smoking...so every clothing item you have will reek for weeks no matter how many washes (and so will your hair). To put it in perspective, the bartender was chain smoking all night. I've never seen a bartender smoke behind the bar. It was odd. But he was gruff and it suited him well. Anyways, the food isn't that good and really expensive for what it is...but you're on Beale...so I guess that is how they justify the high prices. And the drinks, well, they aren't that cheap either and the pours aren't exactly heavy. So why am I still giving it three stars (which is a pretty decent rating)? I actually don't know...I just like it. If I break it down into segments, yeah, I hate the smoking, and the high prices of the food and alcohol, but there is something cool about this place...and not just because of the naked lady painting hanging on the wall above the bar...maybe because it is more laid back than other places on Beale and seems to have local regulars that the other bars lack? read more

Beale Street Tap is the reale deale on Beale! Good beer selection, great blues band (no cover), and friendly service. Clientele is very friendly, and very much into the blues. The band I saw was full of great musicians, and the sax and guitar players could have been making a good living in NYC or LA, they were that good. My only recommendation is to get more than one bartender, as the Walk Up window takes too much attention from the club goers; but that's a minor complaint. read more

This is probably one of the most "real" places you will find in Memphis. Beer selection is small, but better than almost everything else you will find in the vicinity (Saucer not withstanding) There are signs warning against dealing drugs on the premises. Girls will try to engage you in fisticuffs. You can get a stupidly big bottle of Arrogant Bastard Ale for $6. If you can't finish said bastard in time for closing they will gladly you give you a sippy-cup road dawg. Came by for an early dinner and was totally bummed. The "Famous Gumbo" didn't taste like gumbo at all. It was super fishy and had zero spice. Having been to New Orleans and loving all the Cajun cuisine we were excited for that POW of Cajun flavor. We got hit with flavor but more like in all the wrong ways. The folks were friendly, I had the gumbo which was outstanding! I also ordered the BBQ sampler, which was ok...it was dry and didn't have much flavor. The voodoo potatoes that came with it, seemed like they had been sitting in a pot for hours. Walking up and down Beale St on Day 2, Saturday, refusing to get by cheese pizza once again! Saw the menu at King's Palace and they had a vegetarian lasagna! Great step forward. But it's All-Star Night and I need TVs too! They walk us over next door, here to Tap Room, and told us they serve the full menu at their bar too! The place is a mix of teenagers/college students, girls' night out troupes, hard at work grabbing a drink break lawyers, conference attendees and everyone else you can think of. They had a live band setting up around 10pm but the music before that was quite good throughout! They prepared a special Cajun pasta for me and sadly, were out of desserts. Tony and I went to Beale Street in Memphis to enjoy some Blues!!! So, on an impromptu trip to Memphis we stopped at the Beale Street Tap Room and was pleasantly surprised. It was a little crowded and there was plenty of seating with food, drinks and music. We opted not to get any food, but we did listen to the music while Tony enjoyed two Budweiser Beers and I enjoyed some Lemonade with extra lemon that the bartender made fresh. It was very good. The music was very loud and the food smelled really good but we already had food plans and I didn't want to cheat on my diet. When we go back to Beale Street we are going to enjoy the food at this location. Outside in the middle street there was some gentleman doing some acts and flips. It was causing a large crowd. This is one of the better bars on Beale Street, in my humble opinion. It's just real- no gimmicks, no flashy dancefloor, no posers. Just alot of different flavors of beer and alot of fun. The place is really small, which only adds to its charm. You'll hear alot of great music, and the bartenders are awesome. Pint nights are on Tuesdays and you'll certainly save a buck or two, as beers are only $2.50. When you're done with the clubs, stop in for a brew. Why this place has had no love is beyond me. Every Tuesday is 2.50 pints. EVERY tap, 2.50 a pint. Even on St Patty's. But that's not why I love it. Friendly bartenders, especially Jamie who talked at length about how kick ass Gwar was/is. Here, for 22 bucks you can get a mug. You decorate it and they store it in the bar. You get a "pretty nice" discount every time you stroll in and drink a few. There's that decor and then the real kicker for me- seeing all the old cans of beer up on the walls. Did you know that PBR came in a milk carton at one time? You would if you would take a load off here. read more

Maybe because it was early, but there were plenty of people walking around so I'm not sure. Anyhow, it seemed like it was a pretty old place, maybe it is just made to look that way but either way it was cool. The girl working was very friendly and talked to us a bit about the area and about local beers. She let us try a few things to see what we liked which is always appreciated. I went to Beale Street as part of a Marc Cohn/Elvis dream come true, sans blue suede shoes. When I first walked into this tourist trap they call Beale Street, I immediately thought it was going to be a crapshoot for bars. And then I saw the Beale Street Tap Room. Not bad, Memphis! They offered a great selection of beers, had a pretty good band playing, and the Guinness mixes looked like a lot of fun to try. If I hadn't just stuffed my face full of Rendezvous' brisket, I would have attempted a meal of Guinness instead. If I'm ever back, I'll be sure to stop by for one of those bad boys. My gripes: 1 Holy bursted ear drums, Batman. They were in dire need of a sound engineer to adjust the volume in this place! I get that Beale Street is loud, and that the bar is acoustically awkward, but even with my earplugs, this place was unbearable after one beer. 2 The smokiness in here was overload, even with the door open. I love a good dive bar, but I choose not to smoke for a reason. Consensus? My eardrums and lungs were not in favor, but my liver was beggin' for more. What a toss up! read more

They have a full bar & lots of beer on tap & some bottle. If your local, they have a mug club. You decorate a mug & it lines their wall for storage. When you return, you request to be served from ur mug & I believe you get a discount. They have live music every night - even Monday. The notorious woman looking down at u from above the bar wall? Cool dive bar located on Beales St. This place had all your bases covered. No cover on a Friday night, check. Really good Blues band jammin' away, check. Good mix of ages (21-65+), and socioeconomic groups, check. We were in town for a long weekend and had a chance to check out Beales St on a Friday night. This was one of the only places that had live music and no cover, so we gave it a shot. Located in an old building, it has exposed brick and ancient wood floors, so it feels like this place has been around forever. The band, while very loud was really good. For the price, the drinks were a little on the small side, but strong enough and made well. Overall it was a good choice to experience some live Blues in Memphis. read more

One of many bars on Beal Street that is a good time. One of my biggest complaints about the Memphis area is their lack of good beers. I'm not a fan of the traditional Bud, Miller, Coors etc and that is usually your only options. As the name would say, the Beal Street Tap Room has a TON of beers on tap from some smaller unknown brands. We were here on a Monday night so the atmosphere was considerably more quiet than described in other reviews. We, however, loved this place because of that. They had a cheap beer special ($3) and very few patrons so we were able to engage with the friendly bartender for a portion of the evening. Having been to Beale St twice in four months, the Tap Room has been the best place each time for very good music, atmosphere, and draft beer (maybe because they have my favorite Lazy Magnolia.) The Tap Room is a narrow space with a nice wood bar. The band is in the back of the place. These guys are talented and have their own sound. Wednesday last when I was in, there was great dance participation from the crowd. It made for a great evening and next time I am in Memphis, Tap Room will be on my must-do list. read more

Had a good experience with the outdoor bar that we decided to try it late at night for some food. MISTAKE We get seated at the corner of the bar, no problem on a busy night during Beale Street Music Festival. We had a good view of the bartenders and servers. One was seated at the table next to us and I thought she was going to blow chunks. Not very appetizing for the customer. The bartender was more interested in eating her nachos than serving the customers, if you need a break take it and eat out of view of us. The food was good, but the atmosphere was a bummer. read more
