One of the Worst Customer Service Experiences I've Had After attending a Pride event and visiting from out of town, my friend and I stopped by Bar Dogs late at night/early in the morning on June 7th, hoping to grab some food before heading back to our hotel. Unfortunately, we were met with one of the rudest bartenders I've ever encountered. As soon as we sat down at the bar, the bartender--a Caucasian woman with a short haircut whose name I unfortunately didn't get--greeted us with an attitude that immediately made us feel unwelcome. Instead of providing friendly service, she was dismissive, impatient, and rushed us through placing our to-go order. She informed us that we could not eat at the bar, which was completely fine. We agreed without any issue and ordered our food to go. However, when my food arrived, I simply opened the container to make sure my order was correct before leaving. She immediately rushed back over and aggressively said, "Didn't I tell you that you could not eat at the bar?" I hadn't taken a single bite--I was only checking my order. Rather than politely clarifying the policy, she continued to scold us and make us feel like we were inconveniencing her simply by being there. We still hadn't even received my friend's food, yet she seemed more interested in lecturing us than providing basic customer service. Once my friend's food finally arrived, we left as quickly as possible. As visitors in town celebrating Pride, we expected a welcoming atmosphere and basic courtesy. Instead, we experienced hostility, impatience, and a complete lack of professionalism. There's a huge difference between enforcing a policy and treating customers with disrespect, and this bartender clearly doesn't understand that distinction. The food may have been fine, but the service was so unpleasant that I would never return or recommend Bar Dogs to anyone looking for a friendly place to eat or have a drink. Old School bar atmosphere, comfortable, exceptionally friendly staff to strangers - and even tourists - like me, and reasonably priced drinks. BUT ... their food is outstanding. I ate there twice during my short stay in Memphis and both meals were excellent. Far beyond my expectations for bar food. And their kitchen is open late, at least 1:00 am, as they close at 3:00 am. The menu does vary by time of day, including 7:30 am breakfast, so plan ahead. It's somewhat hidden away among the big hotels in downtown Memphis on Monroe between Front and Main Streets, but just a quick walk. My next time in Memphis, I will definitely be back. read more

We stopped in here on a Friday evening. The upstairs was very busy so we headed downstairs where there are several tables and another full bar. We were quickly seated and given our drinks. Bardog is divey (I do LOVE a good dive bar), but the food is anything but standard bar fare. There was something for everyone's dietary preference in my group. The menu features several cuisines including Italian, Tex-Mex, and American. There are vegetarian options available and I chose the Monster Vegetarian Burrito with a side of asparagus. It's filled with pico, black beans, rice, shredded cheese and other veggies. Of all the places in Memphis, this was the best meal I had hands down. Our server was fast and had good recommendations. Bottom Line: If you're in downtown Memphis, this place is worth a stop for a late afternoon refreshment and very solid food. Found this great place literally tucked away in the streetscape. It's got great, old time, city public house feel (despite the "tavern" moniker) with lots of dark, warm tones. Very decent beer selection in bottles and on tap but they really ought to have more than the obligatory Guinness as a dark offering (I.e., Porter) but this is not a show stopper as the Yuengling on tap was a decent stand in. They also have plenty from which to pick your poison in cocktails. The food was solid--well prepared, generous portions, and I have to say, crafted with obvious care in prep and presentation (you get way less and pay a lot more in supposed many star restaurants). Note, throwback alert, smoking is allowed in the main level bar but there is a non-smoking section downstairs though only one guy was actually smoking so it was not even noticeable--and hey, it's a bar!...so don't come here with some fancy-shmancy yuppy new age sensibility--love it for what it is. This place is always a really good time with really good food. The bartenders are always downtown earth. It doesn't matter if you are on the main floor or downstairs. The food comes wrong sometimes when I'm there is a lot of people, but again it's still really good food. I always enjoy coming here and will continue to do so. read more

It was lively enough to not be boring but not so loud that it was hard to concentrate. I had a beer and the blackened pork chop and Brussels sprouts. Music was very dope. Service was very good and prompt. On this particular visit, I sat at the bar. My only complaint is based on MY particular tastes. Absolute THEE most amazing service for a late night solo mission for your birthday. Like me a Google searched this badass place and found my new go to spot. The food is amazing, fresh, good, the waitress is eoo attentive and nice. Did I mention she's the sweetest. I enjoyed myself here so much I'm definitely coming back and making this my regular spot. The music is diverse and amazing and bartender is really cute too. I love the way they make you feel like family here. They do however search and ID you at the door before entry so no weapons AT ALL. Id highly recommend out of towners to come and slide with them before 3am and the kitchen until 1 am. I really enjoyed myself here even if I was by myself.
