So today I was feeling some good Caribbean food! Unfortunately this was not at all what I was expecting. I've tried them before and it was good. But idk if they had a different cook or ran out of a spice but baby this food was definitely not the best. Let me start with the service tonight, so basically she seemed like she kinda didn't want to serve me like didn't ask me if I was ready or anything just stood there I had to ask her was she ready for me yet to get service... then as I go to pay she didn't tell me how much I just happened to hear the card processor and seen my total. I went in and tried to order some oxtails. They were out and the woman behind the counter proceeded to tell me what was on the menu. But with places like this, you have to expect that. I instead got the medium jerk pork with an oxtail gravy and a mild beef patty. My sister and I shared and it was more than enough. Kingston Kafe is light years better than the previous Caribbean restaurant here. It is clean, the food is fresh and seasoned perfectly and the service is very friendly. We had curry shrimp, oxtails, curry goat and curry chicken with rice and peas, plantain and a beef pattie. All of it was delicious. Prices are good. Already plan on going back for the lunch specials. I recommend this to anyone looking for good Jamaican food. Although I enjoy Mommy's in Bridgeport, I like Kingston Kafe much better. read more

Came here around 7pm on a Wednesday night. There were always people here getting take out during my time in the cafe. Not much of ambiance but I got the food to go and food was good! Medium oxtail was $11.50ish and medium jerk chicken was $9.50. Jamaican patties were $2 each and three options - chicken, mild beef and spicy beef. We tried both of the beef. They were freshly made and the spicy had a really good kick! The mild flavoring was on point. The jerk chicken entree came with rice and beans and some fried sweet plantains (not a fan.. I prefer green plains and super deep fried). The chicken was really flavorful and spicy! It was a thigh and drumstick chopped into 4 pieces so it was easy to eat. I got the chicken gravy. The oxtail was plentiful but had lots of bones and felt more greasy than the chicken. I think it was tasty but I preferred the chicken, mostly Bc it was spicy. In looking at other ppl's pictures, I think the entrees were supposed to come with cabbage. I didn't get any tho :( Total was around $23 after the 15% off $20 yelp checkin offer. read more

Put some Oxtail gravy on that, and you got yourself a surprisingly tasty dish with just the right amount of spice. The Brown Stew Chicken is great as well. Wash it down with some Ginger Beer, and you got the true taste of Ja, mon! We got the jerk chicken, jerk pork and a side of plantains. The plantains stole the show before we even tried the chicken and pork. Easily the best plantains I've had. We got medium portions of the meat and they were huge. I was not the largest fan of my chicken. It had a strong taste of cinnamon followed by spice. I like spice but it needs to be accompanied by flavor and this had none. The chicken was not necessarily dry but definitely not tender. However, my husband loved his pork. I tried his pork and it was fall apart tender. Finally, I know it is authentic but I dislike having to picking around bones. It is hard to eat without cracking your teeth. read more

I like the fashion and gifts section next to the dining area with irie reggae music playing over the speakers. Just try to resist all the nice juices, drinks, snacks, patties, festivals, fried dumplings, and spiced buns calling your name! I ordered takeout of curried chicken, curried goat, and ackee & salt fish. There is significant room for improvement in the rice and peas I must say. The curried goat was overcooked but still had good flavor. The ackee and salt fish over dumplings, green banana, coco, and yams stole the show. On July 18, 2017, My husband and I found this wonderful restaurant/shop while on vacation in Greenwich, CT. We found everything we were looking for and much much more, e.g. WI t-shirts, hats, scarves, mesh shirts, jackets, etc. We both had curry chicken, sorrel, and I had a serving fried dumplings. I just have one thought. My curry chicken was under cooked and raw in the middle. We found specialty items he had not seen for some time, e.g. rum cream, cheese, beverages, ginger wine, and breads, etc. The staff was lovely and the service divine. Our favorite staffer was on vacation and returning home the next day...we missed her on our second trip. On July 20, 2017, My husband and I returned to purchase gifts for friends and some items to take back with us. We skipped eating because we had to return our rental. Ample parking in front and back of the building. The place seems clean and looks like they have restaurant sitting to the side in another room which I would love to check out another time. I can see now why this is my co-workers fave place as they did not disappoint. The jerk pork was spicy enough and tender. The stewed chicken and Jamaican rice was so flavorful. Holy moly... it's been exactly a year since I was in Jamaica and I wanted some island chow so I headed to Kingston Kafe-way out of my way but let me tell you, BEYOND worth it. I will return once a week at least! I had a Groupon -ordered oxtail stew and jerk chicken and a homemade spicy patty. After the Groupon ($9 for $15 worth of food) I only spent $9. Each plate came with rice and peas (oh, outstanding!), plantains (simple) and cabbage (bland). So plentiful - the medium plates were not quite half finished (there were THREE of us sharing)! I had been told by a friend to get the oxtail stew and to have extra gravy- so glad I did! We ordered the jerk chicken without gravy and the seasonings really came through. Suggest ordering the small size since it probably would be more than enough even for a large appetite. A cute mom and pop, authentic restaurant. The decor makes it feel like you're in your grandmother's back porch. A little small, but never that crowded that you can't find a place to be. Like, the rice and pease was dry, the oxtail was tough af and plantains the were precooked and sitting under a lamp. I can see how a non Jamaicans would love this stuff but I was not impressed. The service was pretty good though. The ladies were very friendly. But they are also over priced which is so annoying. I would have given this place 4 stars, but the service and attitude led me to writing a poor review. I ordered 2 spicy beef patties and 2 coco breads to start, server handed me a bag with a warm patties and cold coco bread. I asked the server to please (in a very polite way) warm my coco bread as it is customary in any Jamaican restaurant or bakery in the Yard, Gun Hill Road or in Flatbush Brooklyn. Well, I can't believe that this place has been here for three years already! I have been here for lunch at least once a week since it opened and many times 2 or 3 times a week. I have many of my friends eating here as well as my family members and business clients. I have never heard a bad report. The food is easily the BEST Jamacian food I've had and I've eaten Jamacian food all over the area as well as in Jamacia. The Jerk Pork is so tender and juicy as well as perfectly spicy. The Ox Tail and Goat are so slow cooked tender and very tasty. The Plantains are a great treat and they never dissapoint, unless they run out! Service is especially friendly; more than friendly even, as the people there take a great interest in their customers. The owner/chef is a real nice fellow and his beautiful wife is a joy to interact with. The staff is helpful and cheerful so if you have never tried the cuisine, no need to be intimidated. The place is bright and as clean as a whistle and the steady stream of customers ensures that the food is always fresh. I love that I can get a FAST flavorful meal at a reasonable price and don't have to even consider eating a fast food bag of unhealthy junk when my work load dosen't give me much time.
