I said I would be willing to wait, they told me it will be over 30 minutes. What a disappointment. I instead got the jerk wings, which don't even have a slight spice to it. The chicken is cooked well, but lacking flavor. The pasta is good. I have never been here before and was confused on how the meals worked and what I can get together, they were not friendly . The guy kept looking at me like I was bothering him by asking him questions and was not trying to help me understand. I don't get why they have an attitude in this place. I've been to tons of Golden Krust locations, but this one by far has the best tasting food. We tried the spicy beef patty's, bbq chicken, and the shrimp and chicken pasta. Everything was phenomenal! The prices are expensive tho. Small oxtail starts at $21+. Other than that this location will definitely be in my rotation of to go options. read more

TLDR; good food sold that isn't on menu, including vegetarian options. Okay, there's stuff they sell here that isn't on the menu. Good stuff, but it's annoying to go there and think they don't serve food for you. I'm a vegetarian, but didn't see any meals for me on the menu. Stewed peas are made with meat, careful. Well, I went back with someone else to see how the fish is. They pointed at an item and asked what it was. Curried chickpeas. Vegetarian. I went for that as a side dish, around $7 I think? Before that, I was immediately drawn to the Mac and cheese; specifically, a serving of Caribbean Mac Pie. I jump on that so hard, it's been so long since I've had that. If you never had it, it's a type of baked Mac and Cheese that is super dense yet still cheesy and creamy, my childhood favorite. Okay, how was the food? I was very happy. The bean dish was dense with beans and flavorful. I'm so happy with this dish, I now have a reason to come here for my sake. And the pie was soooo good. I was reminded of my childhood when I would spend the holidays with people who'd cook a mix of Caribbean, Mexican, and South American food. It's been so long since I've had this type of Mac and Cheese. Definitely go for it, worth the extra weight. The fish dish was enjoyed as well. The person I ate with likes snapper, and this one was real good. I think it was cooked or topped with pickled Scotch Bonnet. The spice was appreciated. Also welcomed was the option to get sauce on top of your rice. They laddle the broth from your choice of stewed meat. This adds a lot of flavor to the rice and beans mix. The one downside to this place is the price of the Beyond Meat patties. OVER $6 a patty. I think over $7, but I forgot to take a photo and the Mac made me not care about the price anymore at the time. Just go to the Food Bazaar and get a box of 2 for about $10. They're kept in the frozen meat alternative sections. That's still pricey, but much less so. I recommend trying this place. They have food for everyone. read more

Tried Golden Krust in Stratford...... I liked the sweet plantains because I like them soft n sweet. the oxtail was sweet , the jerk pork was hard and dry and needed some jerk kick to it, the steamed cabbage was bland..just steamed with nothing!! I also got the roti meal with curried goat. It was mehhhhh...the Mac n cheese tasted like grilled cheese sandwich lol. Oh and they give you mad rice but not enough gravy On a scale of 1-10 I give it a 4 The pics actually look good and y'all know I don't wast food but I ate a few PCs of the pork all of my plantains and a lil rice and threw the rest in the garbage. I am a white guy. I love Jamaican food. Been to Jamaica and all over the Caribbean, call me a jimmy buffett kind of person. I make my own and smoke my own jerk chicken and I make the rice and cabbage from scratch, had a Jamaican kid tell me recently mine tasted like his grammas. I have had jerk all over Connecticut, probably every jerk hut fro Norwalk to Hartford. Including the rush man down in bpt. Usually frequent the very close to the Stratford location family owned jerk. Thought I'd trie this on a whim. Had the traditional large jerk chicken dinner. Have to say, not bad! Chicken was moist and tasty - could have been more spicy. Rice and cabbage was tasty, and the ox-trail gravy very very good. The other dishes looked pretty good. Service was fine. I'd go back. I was very surprised that this 'chain' put out some pretty authentic sole food. read more

Clearly this is a newly opened location. That being said staff seems poorly trained. Nobody looks like they know what they're doing. Rice and peas, cabbage and plantain were standard can't really complain about that. The curry chicken was underwhelming. Not enough flavor at all. Needed more gravy, and for it to be thicker/more subtenant. The sorrel was ok. I do NOT know what they think they gave me and called it Roti.....didn't even bother it went into the trash. The food is good a little expensive but there is no other Caribbean restaurants to compete in the Stratford area. Staff is not friendly even when you tip them they never say thank you I guess they were trained that way like a tip is required. When they first open i got the pasta and it was fire, I really did enjoyed it. Today i went back and go the same order, came back to work to eat and to my surprise it was nasty, dry and wasn't cheesy at all. Also they added cinnamon yuck!! Took one bite and threw it right in the garbage. I've also tried other dishes since they have opened, personally they lack flavor, I've tried the curry chicken (tasteless), BBQ chicken (drowned it in BBQ sauce), curry shrimp (lack seasoning), mac & cheese (dry and hard). However I do enjoy their freshly made patties its the best. I guess I said all of that to say this moving forward anytime I do go there will be for the patties only. read more

Very disappointed by the customer service I received here at Golden crust in Stratford CT. I ordered a large Jerk chicken with cabbage . As I am eating the cabbage I notice hair in it. So instead of driving 10 miles back to the store I just toss the cabbage. After that I find another strand of hair in the chicken. That's when I decided to take the long drive all the at back to the store to get my refund . My appetite was ruined along with my dinner experience. I don't plan on ever purchasing food from this location again. As I get to the location an employee gets the manager from the back . I greeted her with a hello. I didn't get any greeting back. She just extended her hand for the receipt . I gave it to her . Took her about 10 minutes after typing on the digital cash register to hand me my receipt which stated that she refunded my card. I was expecting her to at least ask how I wanted to refunded cash or back on my card since I used debit. Now I have to wait for the funds to clear back on my card . I also expected a sorry for the inconvenience type of situation. Lol but of course I wasn't given that kind of courtesy. At least act like you care. I would not recommend anyone to ever dine with this Golden crust location. I would have posted a pic of my food but I didn't get a chance .I'm a man of Caribbean decent myself. There's this stigma around Jamaican restaurants and bad customer service . We have to begin to break this generational curse.
