I've been to the store twice in a week! The first visit was for the big rilakkuma doll... saw them in the window as my coworkers and I were passing by. I screamed and ran in there! It took me a LONG time to decide which size I want but the nice owner lady was very very patient. Today I went to lunch in Pacific East Mall just so I can swing by Kingstone to pick up the Ghibli totoro puzzle. So happy now! Can't wait to build it with my boyfriend haha~ read more

What? All these years as a customer and yet I've neglected writing some good words about one of my favorite stores for cute trinkets and unique items. All kinds of products ranging from Asian movies, magazines, car accessories, figurines, stationery, paper for origami, etc etc. Every cute character you can think of can be found on a product here. Kingstone Bookstore is more of a mini Japantown all in one store! I could spend an hour in this store just browsing through everything. They carry a bunch of mangas but in Japanese only I think.. I've never bought or checked out a manga over here. But I do come for the cool things they have. Everything I love is in this store! Hello Kitty, Totoro, Sailor Moon, Miffy, Tokidoki, all things Miyazaki, and a bunch of other cool brands! I usually come here every year to buy my school supplies for my college classes. I've bought pens & pencils ( which I have to say is overpriced:/ ), a bunny stapler, cute folders, animal shaped paper clips, an alligator pencil case, a name tag lanyard, and many more.. I also like to come here to buy gifts for my girlies. They have everything cute that you could think of! Most things are priced reasonably and some things I find here are a dollar or two cheaper than other places! Buying gifts? Come here. They are the best! Kingstone Bookstore is great. It has multiple services for the community. It is located in the Pacific East Mall. I come here occasionally to pick up manga, magazines, and Japanese Music CDs. There is some stationery in the back as well, which is great for me. The parking is ample because it is at a mall, and there are other things to do with the books and cd's you buy here. You can go eat at one of the local restaurants, go shop for groceries at Ranch 99, and even get your nails done. And if you like tea, you can go buy some at the Ten Ren literally across the ways. read more

My daughter, neice and I come here pretty regularly when we need our K-Pop/Anime fix. I purchased 2 Shinhwa albums which I think are pretty hard to find in general. I also happenned to be there when they just got in some BIG BANG 2012 concert t-shirts, and I'm really glad I grabbed one because they were gone in a minute lol. read more

There's just so much here to love! Their selection is just amazing. I definitely come here to satisfy my Kpop and Korean drama cravings. I've gotten SNSD posters, Big Bang posters, and SHINee CDs in addition to City Hunter and You're Beautiful DVDs from here. I'm also a big fan of their gift section. My boyfriend got me a really cute Hello Kitty purse from here, and it's perfect. It fits my whole life! I agree with the positive things said in previous reviews (about the selection of stuff and the price range). I just wanted to add a few things: - it is a small post office station! When it's Christmas, instead of going to the post office banch on Solano and face long lines, I go to Kingstone. This store is adorable! There are mangas to purchase&rent, cute plushies, Asian Magazines, Asian Music such as MBLAQ,BigBang,etc.. They also have Korean Dramas and different Asian dramas. Today I went and purchased the Korean drama "Boys Over Flowers". I love this drama and I couldn't wait to get it! It was a good price too. $20 plus tax; better than paying $99 + online. There are four disks in it and it came in DVD pouches/pockets. The drama is very clear and comes with english subtitles. I would totally recommend someone who likes watching Asian dramas and would like to buy it for a cheap price. read more

Since I can't read Chinese, I head to the back of the store where they keep the plush dolls and stationery items. They used to carry licensed (I hope it was licensed) Kogepan items and other San-X licensed items. These licensed items looked lower quality than the counterparts that were meant for the Japanese market, but if you loved Kogepan as much I did, I still bought some items - particularly the plush dolls which are very expensive otherwise. Back in the day they had AfroDog even. There is little of this now but they still have Asian stationery made in Taiwan and some of it is fairly cute (not as cute as San X). You'll cell phone accessories, pencil cases, backpacks, staplers, little trinket boxes,origami paper and more. They carry Totoro and now have a lot of Monchhichi. I used to like their handmade cards but they don't seem to carry them now? They still have plenty of handmade and regular stickers though. I also spend time at the front of the store where they keep their pens and keychains, as well as some jewelry. Remember the String Doll Gang? http://www.kamibashi.com/dolls/stringdolls/index.html They're handmade in Thailand out of one piece of string. Well now there's a cheaper version called VooDoo Baby: http://www.vdbaby.com/ That's a funny URL, by the way. String Doll Gang dolls are $10; VD Baby sells for $8. This store specializes in finding cheaper versions. The Taiwanese stationery is usually 1/2 to 1/3 the price of the Japanese stationery. Larger than your average Chinese language bookstore, it seems to have a good selection of Chinese books and DVDs (I can't read Chinese, so I'm basing this statement on the number of books I see). I like flipping through the Chinese language cookbooks from time to time to look at pictures of congee and red bean buns. And then afterwards, I can get a red bean bun at the Pacific East Mall. read more

It's like Kinokuniya's little cousin. Not a bad selection, and closer to me than the nearest Kinokuniyas (SF Japantown and San Jose). They also have a lot of Ghibli plush dolls (Kikis, Gigis, Totoros and Nekobuses). read more

They also sell lots of stuff animals of anime characters, and asian games and comics. I also love their cell phone key chains. They are so cute it's really hard to decide which one i want. they also sell korean, japanese, and taiwanese dvds and cds. So this is really an all in one stop for all your asian entertainment needs. They are also at really reasonable prices. so this is a definite plus!!! This is a Chinese Bookstore with a lot of other fun stuff, movies and CDs. The things I look for when here are usually fun sticky page markers (they have so many kinds), boomarks, notepads, movies and Snoopy and the Gang stuff. They have bookends, bags of different sizes, stuffed animals, wallets, ceramics, etc. etc. If you like or know others who like the Peanuts, Hello Kitty or other Asian cartoon characters, this is a good place to find something. read more

My main plus is that they have a pretty good collection of Domo Kuns, my favorite little brown mascot!!!! =D. My uninformed opinion is this place is awesome! I am so happy to have a new bamboo ear scraper with 'The Angel of Native Taiwan' on the top! It's been way too long that I've had my old scraper. I was also really into the tissue paper flower kits, and the rubber stamp kit selections. I may have to return for some of those stamps. read more

They carry books on food , feng shui , and other things . They carry have Korean CDs as well as stuffed animals , some tools for personal care , and some cute random things . What I love most about this bookstore is that they carry Asian magazines ! They have Japanese beauty magazines and Hong Kong gossip magazines . A few weeks ago I came to this Kingstone Bookstore, I spent nearly $100 buying children's books at this store. The other day I went back to look for more books. I already knew that the nearly bald shaven, middle-aged man attending the store doesn't do well with service, but I was willing to overlook it since it is one of the few Chinese bookstores in the Bay Area, especially given that Kingstone has a respectable reputation in Taiwan. This time, the man again never acknowledged me when I walked in until i my toddler dropped a stuffed animal to the ground. At which point he came by with an irritated tone and said "What your child or else I will tell you to leave." You know what? If he wants a job that requires him to only sit around and look good, then he should stay home. Customers look at things. Things happen. You get paid. Don't get irritated. It's your job. Even a dog knows to wag its tail at its patrons. He should be reported to Kingstone Corporate because he is really damaging the company's reputation. Typical, your Asian no good customer service store. They don't offer to help since everything they have is not in the English language. We will never return and if you expect poor customer service then only you should shop at a place like this! So my daughter bought something there that is not a complete set but is not written in English so how would she have known as the box shows a figurine with the set in Chinese or Japanese language. Nor was is shown next to anything suggesting that if you purchase this you will have to buy or order this etc. So we bought it and got on the car and started to drive off. When she opens it is only HAS accessories to a figurine. We turned around and tried to take it back saying it didn't come with a figurine like how it shows on the box and that older, Short haired woman says she can not return or do anything for us. I come to this bookstore to browse around. I like to check out the dvd's and music section. They have a lot of variety of movies but they are more expensive than other places. I feel like a criminal and I feel like a shoplifter! You know why? The owner and employess keep watching you. They have cameras throughout the store and you should feel safe! I just hate how they keep watching you. This is what I notice. People from Taiwan that come to America and open business. They tend to do that. I guess bad habits. I'm not too interested in the books here because they're in Chinese and I can't read Chinese, but every time I come into this store, I can't seem to leave without one thing in my hand! I used to buy star paper here when I was in middle school, but since ten, the price has increased. They have really cute things, and most of them are just to put on your desk for looks. I usually buy bottles for my stars folded here and picture frames here for my boyfriend 'cause they're really cute! One of the picture frames we bought had a little knob that you twist, and after you twist it, music comes out of it. They have really cute papers for writing letters here too, and they have a wide selection of pig pig family note papers around 5.99 - 7.99 depending on what size you get. I also got a cute pair of giraffe earrings from here, since I love giraffes! and it was less than $10 ! This store makes me leave a happy girl :) read more

This store has a lot of goodies: Chinese themed holiday cards, red envelopes (lycee), CDs, VCDs and DVDs, Chinese software, stuffed toys, and (of course) books. I almost always come browsing here whenever I'm at the Pacific East Mall, mainly at the music and videos section. I discovered that usually the cd prices match that of HK music sites like yesasia.com, but there were times before when I thought items are a bit overpriced compared to SF stores. read more

Came here by chance in search of kpop cds for the littlest kiddo. Boy oh boy are those things pricey! They had a select few of the artists we were looking for. Really, not a wide variety at all. the store was okay, the reason why i rate it a three because the kpop merch were just overprice. for example, the normal bts love yourself album is just 16.99. but in this store the price was 32.99 twice the price then the merch you can buy online, 50% markup. also i asked the store clerk if they had more of the albums, she said no and point back at the place where the self has one of each kpop album. when i checked out she had more albums behind the counter. but overall has decent kpop merch and cute animals. just stuff in there are overpriced. :) read more

I have always been a huge fan of Kingstone Books. They seem to carry such a great variety of collectibles and I can't resist buying them! If I need to buy a birthday gift for someone this is the place I go to. Just yesterday I went there and bought a huge dark gray Totoro for my friend Pete. Besides their vast array of products, I always feel like I am at home when I go to this store because the older lady and man who work there is extremely friendly.
