Such a great selection of affordable jewelry. This is one of my regular go to places for jewelry, especially earrings.

This place reminds me of the old days in Berkeley on Telegraph Avenue, where little shops like these flourished and were mixed with great boutiques and nice ethnic eateries, and the vibe was uniquely Berkeley, like you can still find on College Ave and Piedmont Ave in Oakland. Now Telegraph Avenue has become a blighted blend of empty storefronts and big corporate Mall stores you can find in Indiana. Sad. Tenzing has that unique Berkeley type blend of eastern spiritual musings integrated with an eclectic mix of reasonably priced trinkets and soft fabrics and clothes, with some chanting and and mood CDs. You can find light wood henna stamp pieces, silver mood rings and earrings, or little statues of Ganesh and Buddha all for under $10. They have some nice textured scarves, matts, and hangings of soft materials and unusual patterns. Tibetan meditation singing bowls, Champa incense, or smudging bundles to clear the energy in your space and mind. They play nice chanting or spiritual CDs as you shop in a soft and easy way. No OMG here, only OM. read more

A great place right in the heart of shopping on Shattuck Ave, like a sister store to a place called Dolma on University Ave in Palo Alto, with much of the same merchandise. They carry women's clothing with Tibetan and Indian designs, loose fitting for the most part, very colorful, exactly what The Wife loves these days. There's a lot of jewelry as well around the counter, and several low tables with knick-knacks, scarves like they sell on every sidewalk in NYC, slippers, etc. Also, there are pieces of furniture for sale here and there, like a couple of gorgeous huge metal wine racks when I was first there. Like Dolma, the prices on the clothes varied depending o the delicacy of the material, so there's a wide range. Pretty pretty stuff! I came here for vacation a while ago and wanted to buy a wallet this shop had in store before I flew back home. When I went back unfortunately they weren't open yet and I had to leave!! :( Once I got home I called and asked if they had an online store. They didn't, but the owner was soo accommodating that he offered to allow me to purchase it on the phone and that they would send the item and the receipts for me using my fedex account!!! No brainier, I went with that plan as the owner had a store associate walk up the street from the shop to a FedEx and used my Fedx number, and two days later I got the wallet!!! It was beautifully packaged and they attached a little poem card on it about being peaceful and it had other kind words on it. Thank you so much!! Your customer service to go the extra mile is appreciated!!! And the wallet is a perfect gift :)) I will come back to this shop now whenever I am in Berkeley!! read more

Tenzing the owner is incredible! After studying and practicing for over 30 years, I thought its high time I bought a Chuba(Tibetan Attire). I asked a number of my friends in the Bay Area and no one knew where! So I made a few calls and stumbled upon Tenzing! We spoke and he explained he doesn't usually show many traditional clothes however he could bring into the store and we could meet. He promptly was there at our appointed time and I can't tell you how thrilled I am with him, the store, and the service I received. He and his colleague are delightful people to start. Although I was hesitant at first (because I have very few things in rust color) Tenzing politely asked if it was ok to help me dress! Of course, since I don't know how to wear the pieces! Wow not only was this quite the experience, I walked out of the store with the accessories as well. I , of course, needed to look at his incredible store. I thought it was going to be a hole in the ground. There are so many reasonably priced items. There is no doubt I will be trekking up to Solano much more. I highly recommend you going there for presents And you know where I will be going for future gift shopping! As well, Tenzing will be shipping me my husband's shirt since we need to wear it on Sat.! I'm truly in love with this place. So many unique clothes and accessories. The thing is...its really expensive! However, I can't find another store that happens to sell clothes like this. I sucked it up and decided to just purchase one pant. Definitely hippie/yogi style. There's only one fitting room and they prefer you leave your bag at the front to deter stealing. This is the only place I've been able to find authentic Thai fisherman pants in the United States - and not only are they authentic, they're built strong and vibrant with (BONUS) *A POCKET* on one side and the tag on the outside so when you fold the top down it's covered, not displayed (brilliant). The pocket put me over the edge. After literally looking for years for a local store in LA that sold Thai pants (and never expecting to find a pair with a pocket, ever), my mother informed me she'd found a place near her house in Berkeley. "Isn't this what you've been looking for?" she asked me over the cell phone, having texted me a picture of their collection. I asked her to buy me three pairs. And now, every time I go to Berkeley, I am finding myself in Tenzing, always picking up some more Thai pants for friends and marveling over the lovely assortment of other beautiful items. I have to be careful when I go in there. A girl could easily impulse-buy herself into trouble in a gorgeous store like that. read more

I do not live in the Bay Area anymore but every time I visit, I like to stop by this shop. I really love the things they have there and usually always buy something. However, I tried to stop by yesterday and the shop was closed. I came by this morning and the shop was still closed even though it opens at 10 am. I am now leaving town and have not gotten to purchase anything and I am very disappointed. I love this shop but please make sure your hours are updated or you open on time because I wasted quite a lot of time by trying to go there twice. read more

I must go back! I purchased a beautiful yak wool blanket/shawl from here for a very reasonable price (I think it was around $25) and it is my favorite thing!! I am wrapped in it currently as I write this review. Other than the blanket, this store is filled with lots of beautiful imported goods from the East and the shop owner is very helpful and kind :) definitely worth a stop in. Do yourself a favor and purchase on of the blankets, would make a great gift to someone or to yourself! read more

I don't normally write reviews about stores but I had a great experience the other day and had to write one. I randomly entered into the store as I had been looking for Ganesh themed stickers to put on my wall. The customer service was excellent. Not only did he go through the whole stack to find the ones I like but was very knowledgeable and we had a good conversation about Buddhism and the Himalayan region in general. I felt the compassion and kindness while speaking to him. As for the store itself... finally a Himalayan themed place where the owners are actually from the region (so products are carefully picked) and are very reasonably priced! Tenzing is a wonderful clothing and crafts shop, and don't miss their Christmas sale of 20% off everything for total purchases of $50 or more. The store's selection is excellent, and prices very reasonable for the quality. This is a family run business, and the sales people are great -- knowledgeable and they really go out of their way to be helpful without being intrusive.
