This was a fun boutique store for finding unique handcrafted gifts. I was able to find a glass hummingbird trinket for my aunt and am very happy with the pricing and quality of what I bought. The sales associate was a sweet lady that even helped wrap my gift nicely. Definitely a store that I will visit next time in town. Oh my goodness! This place is amazing!! I wasn't looking for it which made it even more spectacular!! So many amazing gifts, collectibles, jewelry, cards, mugs etc. Many of the items are handmade and created by local or international artisans. I could have easily spent $100 or more just on the beautiful cards! I settled on a beautiful hummingbird Mara coffee mug, a couple of cards, and a magnet to commemorate my trip!! This is definitely one of those places you lose track of time in! The employees were amazing. Very friendly and approachable and they had a cute little LGBTQ display, featuring cute cards, magnets, socks, and other LGBTQ items! I definitely can't wait to go back! read more

The Whimsical noise from wind chimes call me in this cozy store. The staff were very friendly and down to earth. One Kid want to pick a butterfly wind chime and took it from the display. The clerk did not get mad and she come over offer a fresh one from the back room. the products and merchandise were unique, artsy and filled with warm positive vibe. for example, the Soaps in picture were handcraft filled sparkles and flower/ fruit that so suaving to look at. and some soaps are fun and witty like "Soap for dog people: Smell like unconditional love" and soap for Cat people: smell like purring ". Our first stop on our Solano stroll, Fern's Garden was chock full of super cute garden gifts, reminding me heavily of East Bay Nature in Walnut Creek. I loved that they carried quite a few local artist crafted wares and handmade items, and enjoyed their adorable selection of cards - all of which were extremely well priced. We've been back a few times now and the service is always incredibly friendly. We were in Berkeley on Solano Avenue two weeks ago and walked into Fern's Garden, attracted by the sign that said "American Artisan and Fair Trade Gifts". Right by the entrance there was a display of fantastic wind chimes. The sounds from these musically tuned wind chimes was fantastic, with long lingering notes. The chimes are made in Austin Texas by "Music of the Spheres". We got the "Alto Pentatonic Chimes", which are 50" long with 1.5" diameter pipes ($279.99). They sound great! We have been looking for some really great sounding wind chimes for a long time, so on first hearing we knew that these were perfect. The staff in the store was very helpful. read more

I had passed this store so many times, too intimated to enter. Why? I thought it was going to be a fancy place, out of budget. Instead, it was a very reasonably priced gift store with good gifts--lots of well-made, well-designed things under $30. This was way better than shopping online. Socks, cards, masks, scarves, garden embellishments, pretty doodads, earrings. A perfect gift can be found for most of the people on your list here, and without shipping costs or entering a card number online or supporting a shady big business. read more

Fern's Garden opened about 2 weeks ago.....what a welcome addition to Solano Avenue! As soon as I stepped in there I was dazzled! The items are displayed so nicely and the brightly painted walls give such a cheerful ambiance . I am an earring-holic....and I could easily choose 15 pairs of earrings...their prices are ery affordable and on my humble budget I was able yo.find a red pair if earrings for $5.95! There were these pretty earrings featuring the art of Boticelli, Frida, other artists....Wind Chime earrings ....and many more. There were also beautiful bracelets from delicate to chunky...leather, beaded, silver... Loads of necklaces ....all so pretty All kinds of wind chimes with the most beautiful tones I've ever heard! They come in a variety of sizes from quite large to smaller delicate ones for your ears or your car's rear view mirror. There is also a huge collection of wooden signs small for a shelf up to large ones for walls. Their messages are simple,sweet, funny and mostly hopeful. The lovely youbv woman at the counter told me that her mom is the owner and selects the items. 90% of the items arr made in thr U.S. I wish Fern's Garden much success! I was delighted to discover this store as I am always looking for unique gifts for holidays, birthdays, etc. I have purchased the lovely cups that come with their own spoon, the dragonfly coasters, a blue hanging spiral wind 'thingy' that hangs outside my friends home, a number of great cards, and some extremely colorful socks. Fern's reminds me of a holiday crafts fair except it's stationary. The people in our lives are extraordinary, why not reflect this in our gift giving? So tired of Amazon. This lovely gift shop opened about a week ago, if I overheard correctly. I noticed it when I parked in front of iScream and walked up the block to meet Alan for lunch at Troy and decided to check it out after lunch. All its goods are American artisan made, or fair traded. There are a variety of objects, functional and decorative, that would make lovely gifts. I found the farther back in the store I wandered the better I liked what I saw. I was tempted by some colorful paper pinwheels in a variety of patterns. I could see them whirling beautifully in the garden in the wind. I checked and they're made of sturdy plastic imprinted w/ a variety of beautiful patterns. They cost about $30 and eventually I may buy one, although my garden is full of pretty and quirky things, so maybe not. We'll see. I did find a wall hung piece I couldn't resist, but it's a gift for someone who might read this review, so I won't describe it. Prices are reasonable and the stock is varied. The shop is a sibling of one in Long Beach. The friendly young woman who helped me is the daughter of the owner. This is a nice addition to the Solano Avenue scene. read more

I headed for Greetings, the little gift shop up the road, to buy gifts for my mom's 75th birthday, but the staff there are so sour and rude, I just couldn't spend my money there. Off to Fern's Garden, where I found cool, original, quirky, fun, one-of-a-kind, handmade gifts! The staff are super friendly and helpful. The sourpuss at Greetings wanted to charge me for a bag. At Fern's Garden, they GAVE me a cute gift bag for my mom, with a ribbon already wrapped around the handle, and matching tissue paper! My daughter's new earrings were wrapped in a tiny drawstring bag, to her delight. Also, my daughter (on crutches) was offered a chair, if she got tired.
