I was all set to write a five star review because the reception, the nurses, the doctors, are all stellar. The billing/ insurance department got involved, and I'm steaming. I'm past 65. I have Medicare but I also have a private insurance policy. It's my primary policy, and when I filled out their paperwork, I indicated such. I also handed over my policy card and my Medicare card to the receptionist. I asked, specifically if I filled out the forms correctly and she told me " you're fine." Three days later, I started getting calls because they were unsure who to bill for my procedure.Folks, it's the law: you bill a private carrier first, Medicare second, and send a bill for the remaining amount to the client. Not here. The woman who called me was apoplectic because I did not specify who was my primary carrier, even though I had. She wanted proof that it wasn't Medicare. It was Friday afternoon, in August. No one answers the phone at insurance offices, or the government. She was unhappy with this response even though I repeated it Five times - after each time she called over the next three hours. I told her I kept on getting answering machines. Her response was to say I clearly didn't understand the seriousness of the matter and I should "try harder." She was right: I did not understand what warranted five calls on a Friday afternoon over 3 hours. Heck, I only got one asking me how I was feeling. I should "try harder." I'm not in high school. I offered to try again on Monday morning. She gave a big sigh and told me she'd proceed without me. An hour later, I got a callback from my carrier who told me what I already knew and what I had told the person at Kips Bay. I called back and was on hold for forty five minutes. The first woman did not and would not take my call. A second person advised me that they had already submitted the bill to Medicare. HUH? Then she put me on hold and came back to tell me I was " lucky" because they were able to pull the bill and would send it to my carrier, on Monday. Wait. I couldn't investigate on Monday but this " urgent" matter could now wait? I never got an answer to that question. If someone in authority reads this, know that your splendid medical staff is being cut off at the knees by this kind of attitude, read more

KBEC-is beautiful, wonderful, warm environment, with professional staffs and persons always willing to assist without a frown. i am Dr. Ackert assistant and he does procedures at this facility, he also did my husband Colonoscopy and it was a smooth process, from the entry of the building with the welcoming front desk to the recovery process was wonderful, an at home feeling of comfort. There is also Carmita a scheduling coordinator, she's on a roll, top tier on her A game when it comes to scheduling and working with patients insurance to make sure patient receive correct billing and is not hit with a surprise bill, and then there is Nurse Jasmine there's not a time that i would call and ask to speak with her to request copies of reports and i would hear a frown or a sign of can't be bothered attitude in her, she is awesome. The only thing is, they should allow you to choose your own anesthesiologist as well, since the insurance paid $650 for the anesthesiologist. Was there 2 or3x's for endoscopies and colonoscopies. All times were very pleasant with kind and caring not to mention professional workers and my MD was also wonderful. They kept me calm as I have high anxiety and panic disorder. Everyone was professional and explained every step until lights out and I had my nap! Great anesthesiologists also. I highly recommend this center. I use Dr Ackert for my procedures He practices at 232 east 30 Street with my wonderful internist Dr Tobias. All the girls Jessica, Anna and Dr Ackerts Secty /female not the male are caring and attentive. I had a procedure here in 2014. Although I had preapproved insurance they demanded payment of $1,600 at time of procedure. So I paid. They then billed my insurance company for $1,600. I would have never have found out until I returned in 2017 and they said I had a "credit". They "offered" to deduct my current charges from the credit and then I would still have a balance I could apply to future procedures. Are you kidding me? They promised that doing this way it could be applied to my deductible. Totally false. They blamed it on a change in systems in 2014. How do you miss $1600 in your accounts? read more

A clean, calm and professional place to have your health issues addressed. Everyone from the receptionist, to the aides, to anesthesiologists to the recovery nurses were clear and intentional with their directions and feedback. She was generous with her time, warmly reassuring and very friendly. I wish there were more like her. One caveat: the check-in procedure was long and tedious with multi-page paper forms to fill out followed by a multi-screen tablet questionnaire. When I arrived on time today, the desk clerk skillfully collected all my insurance, covid vaccine, and medical data. Then a wonderful staff person (Pristine) thoroughly reviewed my medications with exactness and personal caring. Then another caregiver instructed me to prepare for going in for my procedure. The nurse, doctor (Dr. Salik) and anesthetist then greeted me on the examining table and promptly began the procedure. 20-30 minutes later in the recovery room I awoke to see the nurse's kind eyes and soothing voice (Esther) who listened well. Her patience and caring were inspiring to me. Soon I was able to leave, with my results in hand, neatly dictated and with color photos of my exam. My husband was a patient there from October 2016 thru early 2017. He received endoscopy a couple of times, and we had no complaints regarding that procedure. The doctors and assistants were all quite courteous and helpful. The problem came on March 12th, when my husband was to be admitted to NYU Langone Medical Center. He was scheduled to go through a procedure to insert feeding tube on March 13th. Even though this would normally be a walk-in walk-out procedure, not requiring an overnight stay at a medical facility, my husband's doctor (from Kips Bay Endoscopy) thought it would make it easier for my husband to stay in the hospital the night before the procedure. The doctor said he would arrange it so that my husband would be admitted on March 12th in preparation for the feeding tube procedure on March 13th. So my husband and I showed up at the Langone on that Sunday afternoon. We tried to check in, but the clinic could not find any record of my husband's checking in that day. It was a bitterly cold March day. Returning home and having to come back again the following morning was out of the question. My husband (94 years old then) and I waited patiently in the sprawling lobby while the hospital admission staff looked high and low for any record of my husband's procedure and stay the night before. NO LUCK. I, in the meantime, tried to reach the supposed "on-call" doctor from Kips Bay Endoscopy Center. I had the telephone number to call in case anything goes wrong. The only person I was able to speak to was someone (rather sympathetic) from the answering service. We waited for at least three to close to four hours, during which time I spoke with the answering service probably three or four times. No call back from the "on-call" physician. I had a 94 years old man sitting in his transport chair, feeling cold. No response whatsoever from Dr. Sherman or the on-call doctor. In the end, we were taken to the adjoining emergency room. The Langone said that this would be the only way to be admitted into it that evening. My husband and I had to spend a few hours of frustration in the lobby and then two more horrible waiting hours in the emergency room. To this day (Feb 2, 2018), I have no idea what went wrong that Sunday. Since my husband subsequently passed away in April 2017, I have not had a chance to write this review. I can't tell you how horrible it felt to be told that my husband was not to be admitted to the hospital on a cold March afternoon. read more

Get ready to wait forever and then be slapped with a giant bill regardless of how good your insurance is, and you might not find out what that bill will be until the day you show up, or after your procedure is done. So hopefully you're getting an endoscopy because you're in excellent health and able to handle making large financial decisions at that moment! They don't offer payment plans unless you beg, and even then the payment plan they offered me was $100 a month which is not easy when you're on a tight budget. read more

Rude personnel at front desk. Person in waiting room did not have his mask on and the head nurse wouldn't do anything about it. The person who had to sign me out had to wait in the elevator bank for over an hour standing since they wouldn't let them sit in the half empty waiting room. Medically, Kips Bay was ok, though the waiting room at the end of August was a bit too crowded given Covid. However, beware the misrepresentations regarding insurance coverage! I asked twice, on two different occasions, whether everything was covered by my insurance and I was explicitly told yes. Two months later I find out the anesthesia is out of network and not covered. This is unreal. I would never go back there. I assume the lie was because they didn't want me to cancel. Horrible business practice. read more

Staff did not have my 1:30pm colonoscopy appointment, I had to show them a photo of my portal to prove I had one, and then I was bumped to last appointment of the day, so I was there for 4 hours without food or drink, including one hour on a gurney before the procedure where I was not allowed to use my phone so I had nothing with which to stave off boredom aside from a couple of thin newspaper sections I had packed at the last minute. Not once was I apologized to, nor was I told I was being bumped to last appointment. The care I received here was above par. I didn't have to wait very long, as per other reviewers. The admissions prep nurse was very kind and we talked about Yoga in NYC. The anesthesiologist was friendly, asked me about my tattoos and tried to make me feel less nervous about going under. Though, right before he injected the sleepy stuff he said to the Dr.: "Should I ask her?" to which the Dr. replied with a slight laugh: "Just let her sleep." But he carried on with his schtick anyway, which meant that the last thing I heard before going under was: "Some people say that I look like Dracula..." lol. Zzzz.....woke up in a different room. The Dr. came in to check on me and let me know my results (yay no ulcers or anything scary) and a very attentive nurse helped me up after about 20 minutes. Will say this. I took one star off for $. that I'm happy that I have good insurance now, because even with United Health Care I still payed a $150 copay, $75 for the prep and $50 specialist visit. BUT, all for good cause. Also if you need a Gastroenterologist, Dr. Caterina Oneto is a great one with the best bedside manner possible for such a job. read more

For some reason, they ask you to arrive an hour early even though you're asked to fill out the extensive paperwork at home and bring it with you, so you have nothing else to do but wait. Therefore, I sat around doing nothing for a long time and my wait ended up being an hour and a half, since the doctor got backed up. This felt like an excessively long wait. I'm sure they have their reasons, but I heard other patients complaining to the desk about the same thing. However, the care was excellent. It's extremely clean (although freezing cold). No complaints about my colonoscopy, which was handled as per my expectations and previous experiences. Well, with a colonoscopy, either it's done correctly or you're in trouble. There's no wiggle-room for error, as it were. The staff and nurses are courteous and friendly and my physicians (gastroenterologist and anesthesiologist) are excellent. I was well taken care of. Despite the wait time, I would recommend this place. I have insurance and I haven't been billed yet. If there's a problem, I'll provide an update. read more

I can not say enough about the care dedication and professionalism I experienced as soon as I walked through the door. The staff greeted me with a smile and was so accommodating in everyway. The facility was exceptionally clean and all the protocols were met if not exceeded. When I was escorted to the floor for my tests everything went smoothly. As I turned the corner Dr Sherman smiled at me and told me he would be with me shortly, I was then greeted by a lovely nurse who was part of his team and prepared me accordingly. The anesthesiologist and Dr Sherman approached me and told me the procedure was about to begin....then before I knew it the nurse was talking to me and asking me how I was feeling. I was fine a bit groggy which is to be expected of course. I rested a bit longer and was escorted to the waiting area for my ride home. In a few days Dr Sherman contacted me with my test results. Extremely deceptive business practices. My wife confirmed ahead of time that all doctors and services were in network for our insurance. When she arrived they told her that the location was an "ambulatory surgery center" and that the procedure wouldn't be covered under our insurance (even though the doctors are in network). They put an extremely large amount of pressure on her to pay the full $1,500 out of pocket and worked to keep her from canceling her appointment. Now we're stuck with the $50 cancellation fee. I've filed a complaint with the Attorney General and I advise you look for care elsewhere. read more

Had upper endoscopy here with Dr. Cacciarelli, he is a wonderful doctor. I felt very at ease and confident with the procedure. KBEC is very clean, modern and staff are all sweethearts. My appointment wasn't until 4pm but I arrived at 3pm per their instructions and I was prepped and undergoing my procedure by 3:40! Dr. Pam was my anesthesiologist, she was very gentle, thorough and I felt 100% secure with her. They answered all of my questions and the procedure was over before I knew it. I had three polyps removed. This clinic is very professional and the doctors have a lot of experience. Dr. Brandeis was named one of the best in NYC by New York Magazine. Coincidentally NY Magazine named me as one of the ten craziest in NYC. There was very little waiting time, the anesthesiologist put me under. I had nice dreams when I was under which was unexpected. Have the procedure done here and you avoid the bacteria and viruses that are in hospitals. My friend escorted me to the 6 train which I took home. Good experience overall. read more

Kips Bay is an excellent choice for a colonoscopy and endoscopy outside of a hospital. I found the staff friendly, comforting and professional. The facility is modern, clean, efficient and well run. I would definitely recommend this facility for what is definitely not everyone's favorite procedures! I was a bit nervous after reading some of the other reviews but this is NYC and we are living in a complex time in health insurance, and yes we all have to be on top of that aspect wherever you go, that's just how it is today. This center knows what and how to make these procedures as pleasant as possible. This has the worst billing office in the city- Hands down- the worst!! They're in the healthcare business, but could care less about patient FLEX money and the "use it or lose it" policy attached to FLEX spending - especially at the end of the year it would be helpful if they were cognizant of this. Their slow Billing and Processing cost me money! For my October 2018 procedure, it took them 2 months to finally bill my insurance company, and then another two months to bill me for the balance - Even though I had flex money to cover this - it couldn't be applied b/c their billing department sent me the bill for my October 2018 procedure in February 2019. 5 Months later.
