On the afternoon of Aug 12, my husband had his very 1st colonoscopy. (I've already had several times here, myself) Dr. Iwahara is always truly outstanding. He is calm, gentle, & explains everything in such a clear & easy-to-understand way for non-medical people like us, with great care & patience. He is really worthy of respect. Definitely, one of the greatest doctors of all. This time, nurse Chiara (a smart & beautiful young lady) who took care of my husband in the recovery room, was also wonderfully kind. She came by to check on him frequently & answered all our questions with thoughtfulness that I was deeply touched. Her sweet smile helped ease the tension after the procedure as well. I went to Dr Lauren Schwartz for a routine colonoscopy screening which was fully covered by my insurance with zero copay and zero deductible. I provided my insurance card/info at the required initial visit. My husband went to Dr Perl, also in the practice, and went to their surgical facility for our procedures. The doctors were in network but they billed the colonoscopy as being performed at an out of network facility (their own surgical factory!) and I have been battling with my insurance for the past year and half which has stated that we owe almost $30,000 between myself and my husband for having the procedure at an out of network facility. The doctors had our insurance info and never told us our patient responsibility or that their facility is out of network. This has been a nightmare for us and these doctors are complete frauds. I went to the Manhattan Endoscopy Center for a routine colonoscopy. I arrived 1/2 hour before appointment as requested for checking-in. Due to the Covid, only patients were allowed in the clinic. As soon as I stepped off the elevator, I was greeted by a receptionist who checked my appointment time and temperature. A change to their mask was also requested. The waiting area was spacious, nicely decorated and seating was social distanced. There were even seating outside on the balcony. After waiting a few minutes I was brought to a window for registration where ID, proof of vaccination, and insurance were confirmed. A patient ID bracelet was also put on my wrist. Afterwards I was brought to a room where I changed and my medical history was taken. After meeting my anesthesiologist, I was led to a room and put on a gurney. Before I know it, the procedure was done. I was given a drink and snack during recovery. When I was ready to leave, I was escorted down to the lobby and only allowed to leave upon acknowledging my pickup. Overall it was a pleasant experience. The clinic was a smoothly run operation. I was informed that they do about 50 procedures a day. read more

I had a procedure 11 months ago and STILL can't get a receipt for my FSA, so FSA won't pay the bill. And they billed with the wrong tax ID, so I got a huge bill that should have been in-network. The day of the surgery, in the recovery room, still coming out of anesthesia, they told me they could not give me an itemized receipt but would mail one. They never sent it and I was notified by the FSA that I had to provide a verification for the transaction. I started calling Manhattan Endoscopy -- in December 2021 asking, begging, threatening in order to get the receipt to provide to my FSA. I left a dozen messages. Never returned a single call. I sent them online messages, which eventually prompted them to send me a useless piece of paper, NOT the receipt that they are supposed to give for a pretty darned standard procedure. I will literally change doctor so I don't have to experience their incompetence again. read more

Spent the day here waiting for my doctor to call me. Was told the doctor would be delayed 30-45 minutes which turned into 3 hours and I'm still waiting as I'm writing this. They claimed they called patients and they didn't to let them know about the delay. They check your vitals and ask you questions right in the waiting room which is a privacy issue and clear HIPAA violation. Patient mail was at the window also. This place is very unprofessional. They seem to be used to telling patients to wait. I will email a complaint to NYU about this place. They should not send patients here. read more

I've had 2 colonoscopies performed 7 years apart by Dr Pacheco and on both occasions the experience has been excellent. Dr Pacheco sets one at ease, takes time to talk to the patient and answers any questions. No consideration for people who are meeting discharged patients. I agreed to pick up a friend who was being discharged after a procedure. As planned, a nurse called me about 40 minutes before the expected discharge time. I arrived in the building on time and was asked to wait in the lobby. I called my friend to tell him that I was waiting. There was no answer, so I called the nurse's phone number. That sent me to the Center's main number with its maze of options, so I waited a few minutes and called my friend again. He said that he was waiting to meet with the doctor to be discharged. I waited in the lobby for over one hour with no place to sit. My friend was finally discharged. I have no opinion about how Manhattan Endoscopy Center treats its patients. I do have an opinion about how they treat other people in the world. read more

I'm even more demanding when it comes to my health than I am when dining out. Manhattan Endoscopy is one of those rare medical offices that makes visiting "pleasurable". One of the many rewards of turning 50 is the recommended colonoscopy screening. From the moment I was greeted at the office to the moment I left, the staff was completely knowledgeable, personable, attentive and thorough. Nothing was left unexplained and there were plenty of options to ask questions if needed. Dr. Weisberg and his team seemed so connected and work well together. Even my pre consultation with Ms. Reyes was outstanding. This office runs a tight, smooth operation from the beeper monitors given to you as notification devices as you wait to the effortless transition from intake, to lockers, procedure and exit. In the warm months do yourself a favor and hang out on the beautiful outdoor terrace instead of the indoor waiting area. read more

Only part that could be improved was the communication of the prep instructions, which were needlessly long and could be neatened up for quicker, easier reading. The instructions were duplicated for two different products -- of which you only needed one. Nowhere did the instructions say to take only take one of the pre-exam products. And they give you a prescription for both, even though only one is needed. So, you end up scratching your head and calling the front desk to sort it out. read more

And the rather uncaring staff just made this disabled veteran, who is also 10 weeks post back surgery, stand in the rain with his cane to wait. I am am ER social worker. With one exception, everything about Manhattan Endoscopy Center is first-rate. The exception is the entrance to the building, where the staff is rude, uncaring, and downright insulting. The man at the front desk, when asked for a reasonable accommodation for a person with disabilities who was waiting to escort a person who had just undergone a procedure home said, "I don't work for the doctors. I work for the building." This must violate the Americans with Disabilities Act and should be remedied immediately. read more

Underwent a colonoscopy at this wonderful center with Dr. Jain (anesthesiologist) and Dr. Iwahara (gastroenterologist). My experience was a wonderful one from start to finish. Both of my doctors were wonderful and helped put my mind at ease while I underwent my procedure. Afterwards, the recovery room nurse who took care of me was very professional and kind. All of my experiences were great - from the front desk to registration to pre-procedure, and post procedure. It's literally the cleanest, most efficient and most modern ambulatory facility I have ever been to. If you don't have anything to compare it to, trust me on this - from someone who has been to several. In terms of billing, it is THE PATIENT'S responsibility to review coverage. It seems strange to say, "well, what a pleasant endoscopy, can't WAIT for someone to shove a camera into my digestive tract again," and yet here we are. I mean, everyone's super friendly and helpful, and it's a very clean, spacious place that seems to have been well laid out and well-planned - like, you're not walking through a waiting room in a surgical gown or anything, which I've had to do before, and that is WEIRD. My gastroenterologist has something to do with this joint, like she's a partner or something? And I would trust this woman with, um, all of my guts, from my esophagus through my intestines, so... I feel really weird talking about how much I like this place BECAUSE IT IS AN ENDOSCOPY CLINIC, but for real, their endoscopy game is tight. *P.S. the nurses are so nice that they don't make fun of you when you inexplicably wake up from sedation crying about dragons (true story). And then they give you juice and cookies!!!!!!!! I love them so much. read more

As a medical provider myself, this is the last place I want to leave a less than five star comments for a fellow provider/facility, but alas, it has come to this.. Just had an uncomplicated procedure done at this facility few months ago. prior to the procedure, I did some research about this facility. based on the reviews here about their billing department, I hesitated, however, the procedure was deemed necessary by my GI doctor, so I called ahead multiple times to my insurance company, and also to this facility's billing department to make sure that my responsibility was not beyond the co insurance and my annual deductible. So, at the day of the procedure, I paid ALL of my co insurance and deductible (which was a mistake) thinking that with a procedure like this, most likely the deductible will be met. and as it turns out, the deductible I was responsible for was less than my full annual deductible, so a couple hundred dollars should be refunded to me. Fast forward 3-4 months...did I get the money back ? NOPE !! after dozen phone calls to their billing department (Frontier healthcare billing) and to my own insurance company, still no refund. The insurance company sent them a strong worded letter stating that they cannot hold my refund and Frontier billing claim that they cannot refund me, because the part of the claim (which I'm covered 100%, and not responsible) did not get processed, so why am I responsible for the person who is not doing his/her job to get that part processed is beyond me... I've already figured, I will never get the money back, so I will treat it as a donation to the desperate money hungry Frontier billing...and I will write this facility off forever from my book and anyone who wants my professional medical recommendation for a GI facility... ps: In case you are wondering, if all that little stuff they have at this facility matters? I couldn't care less about a fancy waiting room, or the free wifi, all I care about is if this place is clean, and if they get their job done without ripping me off, which they have failed miserably pps: if this really is your last resort GI facility, and you have to have a procedure done, please remember to pay ONLY the minimum (co pay, co insurance), and let the billing dept bill directly to your insurance company first to see the true amount you are responsible for. read more

I had a very positive experience here, with the exception of one of the receptionist. Though the other one immediately jumped in and offered to help me. Clean bathrooms, lovely in-take staff, nice waiting room (including an outdoor patio where you're welcome to wait!), nice nurses, small triage rooms, but nice procedure and recovery rooms, and staff who are very kind and patient with you while you're looped out on meds ;-) I had the single best anesthesiologist possible! I was a Nervous Nelly, but their staff were really great in making sure I never felt judged, and just felt right at home. read more

This review has nothing to do with my gastroenterologist, who is an amazing doctor. This is not a fun test in the first place and it is horrible to treat people this way. I spoke with Sam in billing department at 9:15am on September 21st returning her call to me about my billing for my procedure. She quoted me a bill of my $1,500 deductible and then owing $122.40 total remaining after that. I even repeated after her to make sure I documented it. I took care of the $1,500 on site prior to my colonoscopy and expected a bill for the remaining $122.40. I arrive home tonight to a statement for "anesthesiology only" for $558.60. Speaking of anesthesiology, I was abruptly spoken to by the anesthesiologist who basically told me to lay down, stuck me with the IV abruptly without so much as explaining what was happening and I woke up halfway through the procedure to him across the room. So, I am writing back to your bill, sending that in the morning and you better get your act together because I am not going to be wasting my time fighting this billing fraud by your company after being treated in this manner in the first place. I am heartbroken my doctor decided to associate with this place. Avoid it at all costs. I am grateful, thanks only to my doctor, that my procedure was completed without a hitch. No thanks to this facility and this anesthesiologist and a billing department who thinks I am going to pay hundreds of dollars more than they told me I would be paying. Nope. Wrong girl. read more

The Center is immaculate. Support service, i.e., Intake, Surgical Prep, Meeting with Anesthesiologist, and safety for belongings create a safe environment. The entire process from the time I entered the Reception Area to my discharge was seamless and fast! In the past, I've had these procedures at hospitals where there are long waits between meetings and interviews before surgery...and the hospitals, while attempting to be bacteria-free are rarely so. Large medical institutions cannot bar visitors to see patients, and it is those visitors who bring in bacteria, etc. from the subways, buses, and street to what should be a sterile environment. I am so grateful that Dr. Borcich and his colleagues have created an immaculate, safe space for endoscopic procedures. Terry C. read more

Dr Weisberg seems quite competent and seems to have done a good job on my procedure. The anesthesiologist however made me quite uncomfortable. I felt like he is dishonest. I suspect he did not have my best interests at heart when considering either the type or quantity of drugs to give me. Certainly I am not qualified to determine the amount or type, so I am not saying that he should have done it better. Instead, I have issue with the way it felt. When being anesthetized, I want to be as comfortable and confident as possible with the person administering. I would not go back to this clinic. read more

Be aware of the fact that they charge "facility fee". The provider was supposed to call me to inform me the cost. I didn't receive any phone call about the cost before the procedure even though they claimed they did leave a voicemail. Then after a whole day of fasting and no water for 12 hours and all the preparation, I was told at the reception that there was a "facility charge" of copay for $750, even with my insurance coverage. I was shocked but in no position to make a sound judgement given I could barely talk. In a nutshell, try to avoid this place as they are other providers who actually charge less even without insurance. read more

Heading in for a second procedure. Can't address the bad comments about billing. I have not had an issue with them. But bar none, everyone has been kind and helpful and professional. I didn't have an escort for my procedure and they helped arrange for an agency to have someone escort me. (For a fee, but the cost of that is less than the inconvenience of having someone leave work to help) odd to give reviews for a place like this but given the negative comments I thought my experience balanced those.
