This place has 4* reviews, so we figured it would be good. Chicken is entirely unseasoned on both lo mein and hibachi. Hibachi came with zuchinni despite ordering without. My lo mein noodles were literally just spaghetti noodles with lo mein sauce. Chicken was also spongey and old. "Dead food" we call that. Sushi rice was dry and kept falling apart when picked up by chopstick, no matter how gentle the touch. "Clear" soup was brown. Gyoza is vegetable and comes deep fried. So do the spring rolls. They were overcooked. We came in at 4pm, right after they opened back up for the dinner shift. I've had better sushi from kroger and publix. But I think the sushi is great and you get a LOT for your money here. Non-specialty rolls are way under $10 and specialty rolls are just over $10. I also ordered a salad, I could seriously drink the dressing... and I know how gross that sounds... but seriously... I could and probably would have, had my boyfriend not been there to judge me. Although this has not been in Antioch as long as some other staple locations. This is a staple Antioch restaurant!!! Best sushi this side of town and better than many other places across the city realistically. I love coming here, the staff is friendly and helpful. The food is always amazing. They have hibachi, sushi, sake, fried rice and more. Let's not forget the lunch special too!!! The have take out and dine in. The dine in is never overly packed. It is quiet with soft music and usually one tv with sports or news on. Service is fast and the prices are reasonable. I come here a lot with friends or alone. I absolutely love this place. So we had lunch here I did enjoy the tempura rolls and the sweet potato roll was alright it didn't taste like anything, really. Unfortunately I forgot to take photos of our food. Which makes me upset. But the shrimp sushi tasted weird and the squid sushi didn't smell or taste fresh. I explained the Texture of the shrimp and squid to my husband who is Thai and he eats lots of seafood. Squid was a lightly fishy and rubbery the shrimp was very fishy. And my husband said it's not supposed to taste or smell like that. And i looked up how thick the squid is supposed be on line and it's supposed to be super thin. my daughters squid sushi was about an inch thick Yuk!!!!! You must be out of your mind! Kirin Sushi is absolutely NOT a great restaurant. It's not even a decent restaurant. Where are all these good reviews coming from??? I love crab wontons, an appetizer that should be crisp and never sugary (the latter of which is a commonly-made mistake). Kirin does not carry crab wontons, so I opted for the cream cheese wontons instead. They were soggy instead of crispy, not the texture you want to experience in a deep fried food. At least they weren't sweet, their only redeeming quality. The spring rolls are downright disgusting! It's really hard to ruin this appetizer and even mediocre spring rolls can be enhanced by a dipping sauce. But the bland cabbage interior of this deplorable item can't even be salvaged by the sauce it comes with! I LOVE eel nigiri and I've rarely been failed by this dish. But Kirin did it again. The eel was NOT fresh, the amount of rice was tiny, dwarfed by the unsavory eel, and I'm suspicious that they bought it at a gas station and pretended to make it fresh. I basically just wasted $15 on terrible food. PLEASE heed my warning as a very experienced Yelper and do not eat here!!! read more

If you enjoy GREAT sushi, PLEASE go here! I can't rave enough about the rolls we had! THE VOLCANO... mouthwatering! The fried rice-less Roll (I forgot the name) was also Outstanding! I give high props as well for the yum yum sauce on the table and for the ginger salad dressing. I could eat both non-stop...EVERYDAY. Easily! I was a little taken aback at the lack of hibachi tables (it's prepared in the kitchen) but that was quickly forgotten once the salad, soup and sushi rolls arrived. Lol. The disappointment was strictly my own because I'm not sure where I acquired the assumption that they had them in the first place. Now back to the food! The steak and shrimp hibachi platters were tasty and made even more so with the yum yum sauce! Service was A-1 with our waitress and sushi chef checking on us frequently to make sure all was well. I was truly very dissatisfied with the food here. I'm giving 2 stars because this was a pickup order and my food was ready on time which I appreciate. The server/host was on the phone while giving me my order so I can't vouch for customer service. The food however, VERY disappointing. I expected RESTAURANT quality sushi rolls and I got something that was not only extremely small, but the rice quality was not good at all and I could have easily bought this kind of quality sushi at a nearby grocery store for cheaper. I'm from Southern California where you don't need to go more than half a mile to find a decent sushi place so I have had plenty of sushi in my life to compare. My advice, find another place or just buy it at the grocery store cause you're getting grocery store quality sushi here for sure. read more

I'm always game to try a new sushi place. We were in the area on Saturday around lunchtime and stopped in to check it out. The location is in an older strip mall. The interior decor isn't much to write home about, but it was clean and orderly. They had every other bulb off in the overhead lighting, which gave the restaurant a more lounge feel. I would prefer more light on, but it's not my name on the deed. We had a few different servers that helped during our visit, they are all very fast and friendly. Kirin has a lunch sushi special. We each ordered that and split some of the rolls. For $11.75, you can pick 3 of the listed sushi rolls, along with a soup and a salad. We ordered the yellowtail, Alaska, spicy shrimp, spicy tuna, sweet potato and spicy crab. The soup and salad was the Asian restaurant usual, although the salad had a lot of dressing on it. The sushi came out fast. If you don't like much rice on your rolls, you'll like this sushi. The rolls had 8 pieces each, except for the yellowtail. I was impressed with the side of the yellowtail. It was a lot of fish for a roll. The sweet potato roll should've came with a warning, it was VERY hot. The spicy tuna is the minced kind, more like purée spicy tuna. I don't care for that because everything can become so mushy. The Alaska roll with salmon, avocado and cucumber had a better texture. I would say the rolls we had seemed like something you'd get on a Chinese buffet. I don't really think that is a fair assessment of the place as a whole, maybe the rolls that cost $12-$15 are better, but the lunch special wasn't that special. read more

I've been talking about wanting to get Sushi for a couple of weeks now. Finally yesterday we went here based on the facts that it was new and it had good reviews. First off, the service here is incredible. Absolutely wondeful! Our server made sure our glasses were always full and checked on us frequently without being annoying. For appetizers we got gyoza, cream cheese wontons, spring rolls and miso soup. There were three of us and we all have healthy appetites. Everything was great, though two of us felt the soup was lacking. I still finished it off, though. For my meal I didn't get too fancy. Just tuna roll, salmon roll and Philadelphia roll. Everything was good and fresh. Our friend got the Tiger Eye and Volunteer special rolls, salmon sashimi and some other rolls I forget and he enjoyed them as well. My boyfriend, who does not like Sushi or seafood, got the chicken bento box, which was bigger than he thought it'd be. He enjoyed it and said the chicken definitely tasted as if it was off the grill. Great new sushi spot! I was surprised to see this pop up on my Yelp recommendations for Antioch. 5 star Sushi in Antioch? Ok let's try it! We ordered the jalapeño crab app and 2 special rolls. Out came a beautiful tempura fried jalapeño stuffed with cream cheese and crab, much fancier than I was expecting and yummy. I ordered the Spicy girl roll, shrimp tempura with spicy tuna on top. Delicious!! My husband ordered the ZJ roll, baked fish roll with tempura crab on top, it happened to be on special this night for only $7.95 bonus! We were treated like royalty. We ordered a few special rolls, a few standard rolls, and with Kirin Sushi's rating we expected good sushi. We were blow away when the chef spent 20 (worth the wait) minutes preparing and AWESOME sushi boat. Not sure why we deserved the special treatment, a couple of Californians, in shorts & t-shirts, less than in prime condition after our walk from the hotel but the incredible staff at Kirin Sushi gave incredible service, top-notch quality and redefined an over the top sushi eating experience. This only happens when people truly care about what they serve and those that walk into their restaurant. We received a delivery order which was absolutely horrible. We ordered tempuras and the sauces were spilled in every take our box. Who wants soggy limp tempura? When we called the restaurant to complain, before I could finish my sentence I was told "We are not responsible for how the delivery people damage the product". I asked if I could complete my sentence and told her that they should be concerned about how the product is delivered to the customer, but that fell in deaf ears This is the second time we received bad food from Kirin and it does not matter who is to blame.
