All my healthcare is through Evergreen Health and has been for years. One part of my ER visit, was not billed to my insurance and instead a bill from one specific provider with Evergreen Emergency Services was texted to me. It looked like a scam, so I ignored it, being sure to login to MyChart each time to confirm I didn't have an outstanding bill. Months later, I receive a notice from Puget Sound Collections that the portion of my bill from Evergreen Emergency Services had been turned over to collections for non-payment. I had no idea I had an outstanding balance. Nothing on MyChart and my insurance had no record of it. I receive paper bills from Evergreen, so I know I didn't check a box allowing a text bill. Evergreen Medical Center should do a complete review of its contracts with emergency physicians and their billing practices. There's no telling how many people have had similar experiences. read more

this is one of the worst hospitals I have ever been to first off. I wanna say the front desk emergency workers were rude terrible and snooty second I wanna say they take their sweet time. I sat in the waiting room for seven hours Just for them to take me back and tell me nothing is wrong when clearly something was going on with me then when they tested me, they told me the test results would take about seven hours so they sent me home told me that they'd call me with my results and they never called me back so I called back myself and they proceeded to tell me that they can't give me my results and I would have to go on my chart so then I called my chart support and they never answered. This hospital is terrible I would never recommend it here it's unprofessional. The people are rude. It's gross and not clean and they don't care about any of their They're rude. They take their time even when it's a real life-threatening emergency. The waiting room is unprofessional they gave me an IV while I was waiting in the lobby it took seven hours while the place wasn't even busy wow how crazy is this place!!! read more

My fiancé voluntarily sought mental health support this morning and was unfortunately assaulted by another patient at another mental health facility nearby. He was transferred here to the ER after the incident. I want to sincerely recognize David (social worker) and Andrew (nurse). Both were compassionate, patient, and trauma-informed. They genuinely listened to my fiancé, validated his experience, and advocated for him. Their care made a very real difference during a difficult situation and should be acknowledged. However, our interaction with the ER physician, Dr. Dave Stow, was deeply concerning. My fiancé has OCD with intrusive, ego-dystonic thoughts -- meaning the thoughts are unwanted, distressing, and not associated with intent or desire to act. He was very clear about this, and David (the social worker) evaluated him and recommended discharge with outpatient follow-up. Dr. Stow was dismissive of the clinical context and spoke to us in a condescending manner. At one point, he shared a personal story about previously discharging a patient who later died by suicide. This was extremely inappropriate to say to someone with harm-related OCD during a crisis. Instead of helping, it heightened fear and distress and felt emotionally pressuring rather than clinically supportive. We left feeling frightened, dismissed, and more distressed than when we arrived. Meanwhile, David and Andrew demonstrated exactly the kind of trauma-informed care that should be standard. I hope the hospital reviews this situation to ensure consistency in patient-centered, compassionate mental health care. read more

Horrible ER! Staff are friendly but we have been here SEVEN hours and still waiting and maybe 12 people waiting. Waiting with severe chest pain. And then to see another person waiting stand up to walk towards the desk o my to drop hard on the floor--and the sound of her poor head hitting the floor and no staff out here! A nurse came from the back and two security guards! And the security guards helped her up! No checking her neck or head the three of them just put her up on a bed someone wheeled out. They lied about how I was treated and ignored my complaints after my primary care doctor told me to go to the ER. They are discriminatory and untrustworthy. I had sudden and severe back pain at around midnight a couple weeks ago - this was the closest ER. Got there and waited over two hours, suffering spasms throughout my wait. I get it, I'm not dying. But man it was such a cold and painful experience. When I was finally see I was given a room with a bed where I was supposed to rest but alas, if they had even listened to my intake in the first place, they would have known that the bed was useless - I couldn't sit or lay down anyways. So - 300 dollars later and a 5 minute visit with the actual ER doctor, they gave me a prescription for muscle relaxants where the doctor and nurse gave me conflicting directions on when to take it. I described my pain and symptoms to 4 different people. The one person here who I needed to understand my symptoms, the doctor, did not listen at all. When describing my symptoms back to me they were literally the opposite of what I was saying...his response "well I won't be able to pinpoint anything today". He didn't ask any clarifying questions or take the time to understand my symptoms. He simply determined I was not dying and sent me on my way. Waste of time, money and energy. read more

Honestly, ER visits suck. Regardless of where you go. And post COVID staffing and burnout is a huge issue, and full EDs. I believe everyone is doing their best. I'm unfortunately a frequent flyer to the ED with a chronic illness and I've been to several emergency rooms of different hospitals. I'm a patient at Evergreen and while I've had consistently poor care in many other departments ( *shoutout* especially with Shelby the charge nurse on Silver 6 oncology) , I have consistently good care and compassionate doctors in the Evergreen Emergency Department. I'm so grateful y'all are there and keep coming back. And somehow manage to still have compassion and care well. I'll be bringing snacks by soon. read more

My wife had severe stomach pain, and we waited in the ER for almost an hour without receiving any help. When I asked when she would be seen, especially since she couldn't tolerate her stomachache, they told me they couldn't give any answer. I already called their 425-899-2267 number and told them my experience, but I think people have a right to know as well. I would have not gone to their emergency room if the doctor-on-call from my PCP's office had not told me to go to this specific location, because she used to work there and she said it was good. (I live in a small country town and Kirkland was a drive for us, but my family and I thought it would be worth it.) When I came in, I was crying in pain, holding my abdomen, barely able to sit on a wheelchair. The nurse told me that the wait would be six hours, but because of my condition, they would try to get me in sooner. I waited nine hours. During that time, I had to lie down on the floor of their waiting room, because I couldn't bear sitting anymore. Then, the pain in my abdomen reached a level 14 out of 10. I thought I was dying. I cried harder, screamed, even started retching. I was mortified that everyone could see me in this condition, including toddlers. While I understand you were packed with patients, you CANNOT allow someone, supposedly under your care, to be in this condition. At that point, I would have accepted a closet for me to yell in peace. If you don't care about us, fine, then care about your business and think if having a patient dry heaving and sobbing ON YOUR FLOOR looks good. When I asked for an ETA, the front nurse in a brown ponytail told me she didn't know and that "everyone else here is in pain too." Again, no one else was screaming in agony, truly and honestly believing they would die on your floor. Every time they called someone's name, they would walk past me and never look at me. I wouldn't be saying this if I hadn't noticed the nurses whose eyes I did catch immediately looked the other way. I get it, no special treatment for anyone, but at that point, I was desperate for any sort of comfort and kindness. Show your humanity. If you are having a medical emergency, do not go here. This is more of an urgent care. This place deserves every one star they get. read more

I went in on Sunday. I was treated with respect and care. I received more from them than I did my health care provider. When you hear the big C word it scares you. I begged my doctor on Friday to call me personally. Nothing. He had his nurse call at around 4:45. The office closes at 5:00. Went in on Sunday and got more answers in my emergency visit then I had had in an entire week. Thank you Kirkland Evergreen emergency. You got the ball rolling. The emergency room is fine, but their billing system is a complete scam. I've literally spent 15 hours on the phone with them, along with my insurance company, explaining how they're overbilled me for my visit based on the Multiplan agreement they hold with my insurance company. They've even AGREED WITH US and have stated they would send an updated reduced bill, only to send me the same bill and, upon calling back, state they have no record of the prior call. This has happened literally seven times. I'd take them to small claims court if I had the time. If I'm in an emergency situation that sin't life threatening in their parking lot, I would do everything in my power to get to another hospital. read more

After going into the emergency room for severe neck and back pain (I couldn't even walk without help). I had a horrible experience with a doctor Gretchen there. After doing my CT scan doctor Gretchen came in the room to go over the results, she asked if she could adjust the bed up slightly to go over everything and stood up and yanked the bed up about half way. I screamed out a bit in pain and said "wait wait wait". Doctor Gretchen grabbed the bed frame again with my head sagged low and back barely up the bed and jerked the bed up again causing me more pain and agony. I was extremely irritated and now back in an immense amount of pain. I asked her why she did that and told her that was out of line after already clearly expressing my pain. Doctor Gretchen replies that "it's part of my test to see if you have gotten any better". The thing is we didn't do anything for recovery or treatment while at the hospital, just a CT scan and some small movements to pinpoint the pain so I'm not sure how I would have became better all of the sudden. Doctor Gretchen then began to get condescending about my job "I'm sure you have so many important things to do right? Installing all that glass and all". Yes I am a construction worker and run a family business, I take pride in my work and there are no means to insult my career choice. After denying to take any more medication/ pain relieves (they make me feel dizzy and sick, and I told her this). Doctor Gretchen became even more irate and started to get more demeaning. Doctor Gretchen had the nerve to look at me with my girlfriend next to me and say "I want to give you pain medication so you don't go home and yell at your girlfriend all night or who knows what else". My girlfriend and I were completely shocked by this and doctor Gretchens last comment had set me off the edge. Doctor Gretchen was completely unprofessional and was negative with me from the very beginning for being hesitant about taking any pain meds/ sedations/ or anti inflammatories. I have personal feelings about pain medication and for her to dismiss that and be so rude was just uncalled for, especially in an emergency room situation. read more

How do I file a complaint about the individuals working at the front end of entrance to the hospital. I completely understand, that emergency rooms take patients based on most necessary need first. There was absolutely no compassion from the front end directed forwards myself. They were capable, for I noticed kindness to many other patients I have been to this emergency room over Dozen time for myself and family members over the last twenty years. Perhaps, it was my messy hair, my cloth cooler bag instead of a purse, or the small panda pillow, that I had compressed to my chest, in order to help with the pain. I went on Friday, May 20, 22. I arrived about 6: 30 P.M. and left about 12:30 A.M. I had had fallen and slammed into the concrete front landing on my chest, elbow and pelvis. I wrapped , rested and iced for five days. I thought that it would get better but the pain got worse and I was having a difficult time breathing. I had politely checked in two times upon my arrival. The first time was with the financial person at about an hour and half after my arrival. My pain had gotten so bad, that I bent over in pain and could barley breath. I was told, that there was three or four people in front of me. My pain got worse, and I watched as nice lady, nicely dressed whom said to the staff and people next to her that she was putting something in the recycling bin and jammed her finger. She said that she was OK. Her finger was what seemed to be professionally wrapped. She was introducing her son to the finance lady whom she said helped her call her son. During this group of Mother, Adult son and staff, they seemed at ease. I was sitting about about eight feet from them and quietly crying with severe pain. I was surprised, that she had been taken to the back in less, then a half hour. Slightly, after her arrival couple came in with their little boy whom seemed about three years old, and seemed in severe pain. He was coughing deeply, and seemed as if he was going to throw up. Because he was so young, the parents were not able to mask him, and I believe, that the mask would made it more difficult to breath After the 'nice' lady and son were taking to the back. I went to the nurse station door waiting to talk to her as she talked to staff. The pain had gotten so bad, that I could not stop crying. I asked if she knew when I would be seen,for my pain level had shot up to about a fifteen. She said, that I would be next, if no one came in with a breathing problem. I told her, that I had told her , that I was having a breathing problem, and she said, yes, you told me that, as if in a dismissed way. I went and stood in the corner trying to get the pain , to stop before I returned to my seat. The guy 'nurse' whom finally tossed the gown on the bed rather then hand it to me, and walked away. I could barley bend over to pick it up. The Doctor whom came in was kind, and said that he would get me something for pain. I said yes, but I could not take anything, that was opiates or anything like that, because it would make me nausea. He prescribed me Tylenol in a IV. Evergreen, please look at the patients, that were taken in during the time period, that I was there. I believe, that the front end people decided, that I was there for a reason, that was not legit, and did not listen , to what I was telling them. Was it my crazy hair, no makeup, and my cooler bag, that identified as being there for something different then what I said. Was it because I asked for a charity application up front. I had work insurance, and I did last year when I came into Evergreen, and my twenty percent portion was $2.500. I currently am on unpaid FMLA, so yes, I asked for help upfront. I have worked at family shelter for two years, and many of our clients have told me how bad they are treated as less then. Now, I have personal experience of being treated as a less then. Shame on you front end staff, and shame on you again. I hope that you are never treated this way. Perhaps the giant sign in the lobby about being respectful, and not cussing and etc. should be looked at closer, as for how some professional staff behaved in my experience. It was not words, but the power, that they have to decide won will e created first based on their false beliefs. read more

Agreed with other reviewers who said the ER service is good, the billing department is a real problem. My husband had a kidney stone, so I drove him to the ER; he was brought straight in, given a saline drip and some painkillers. They did some tests to confirm, but after that there wasn't much they could do until the stone passes. 4 hrs later we get sent home with some prescriptions for painkillers, etc. Then the bills start rolling in. The ER bill was INSANE. Before insurance, 7k. After insurance, a mere 2,200. They charged $47 for each bag of saline, $23 for tylenol. I kid you not. I called to ask them to adjust it to something reasonable, but they said ER bills are the only ones they don't negotiate. That makes sense, because I was clearly the asshole for not price-shopping ERs while my husband was twisted up in pain and projectile vomiting. I also received bills from shady "Evergreen Emergency Services" headquartered in Chicago, doesn't list what it's a bill for, and the charge doesn't appear anywhere on my bills from the ER itself. To add insult to injury, it says on the bill it's "statement #5" even though it had only been 3 months since his ER visit and it was the first one I'd received. Total grift. As if the prices weren't outrageous to begin with, you have sneaky side-hustles sending bills for who-knows-what, lying about their statement numbers and failing to provide any information about what they are actually charging you for. All told we paid close to a thousand dollars an HOUR for him to vomit in a hospital instead of at home, while enjoying what I can only assume was the WORLD'S MOST EXPENSIVE SALT WATER. I can't believe any business is allowed to legally operate this way, much less a hospital. We are NEVER going back. AVOID!!! read more

So, I'm sure Evergreen is a fine emergency room, but I *strongly* question their coding and billing practices. I went to this facility with acute and severe ear pressure and pain on a Saturday night following an an airplane flight with a head cold, was seen and treated fine. However, the doctor/billing office coded the visit as non-emergency, so my insurance company denied the claim, naturally. After appeal, this puts the *entire* cost of the bill ($1,000) on my family, since, unlike Evergreen Hospital, I have no pre-arranged contract with the insurance company. So, before you use this facility, caveat emptor. You may likely get stuck for the full amount of your emergency room bill. read more

Evergreen Emergency Care relies on trial-and-error, test, test and re-test and, even after all of that, "not sure" and "we will have to wait and see" seems to follow every diagnosis and treatment plan. After everything is said and done, the bills start showing up and the cost of their "not sure", test, test and re-test surfaces. Could use some ER doctors who .. I don't know, care! Had a friend go into the hospital yesterday had a 2 hour wait (not the biggest deal it's ER) but has been dealing with stomach pain and a swollen side for the better part of the year. She just got an ultrasound earlier in the week with Evergreen it came up blank but both the tech and general surgeon could feel an abnormality. She saw a Dr West, Lauryn I believe is her first name. Not only was she passive in caring , AT ALL. She also treated this patient as if she was drug seeking. She only suggested she go back to her PCP. She would not order additional testing (the patient has good insurance) records show there was a problem but she would look no further. Also made it clear, she was not looking for drugs she just wanted to know what the lump was. Upon the patient getting frustrated and crying Dr West response was WHAT IS THIS REALLY ABOUT?? As if she could not read that the patient's chart or hear her complaints. (Sigh). I've never heard of such negligence . I have been working for a hospital for over 18 years I know Dr West SHOULD HAVE done better. She even went on to say THIS IS NOT AN EMERGENCY.. I sent the patient to Harborview ER upon finding this out, and were able to diagnose . I felt after several months of no answer that she should have one. Not to mention the hours of work missed as a small business owner. If I could give this ER a lower rating I would. This will not stop here as far as the complaint goes. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE health care, just go to Harborview!! May not be the nicest but at least they care enough about their patients needs. Shame on you Dr West! read more

Last time I was here we had great service and we were in and out rather fast, in fact I felt like we were skipping the line with our health issue. This time I have child who had chest pain and continues to have pain with taking deep breath and we have been triaged to the bottom of the list, waiting 1.5 hours so far, still waiting. I have seen patients with less severe issues who came in after us being sent in. I think I need to research different ER's in the area for future reference. read more

Went here yesterday for severe swollen and painful abdomine. I was seen immediately by very nice people and did a series of tests. I was in and out in 3 he's. Seriously the fastest care I've ever received in an ER. I like Overlake too but seatlle ERs are way more crowded and I was once there for 10 hrs. read more

Amazing service and care. I was admitted with a perforated intestine and the care I received was second to none. The nurses were extremely helpful and had the time and patience to deal with me when I was very grumpy and down in the dumps. Cannot recommend this hospital enough. read more

This was not a good experience but the doctor was great. This review is regarding the ER, silver entry. The nurse connected the the IV and EKG but then I was left with no way to call anyone into the room. No TV (even though there was one in the room) and no button to push for help. I felt stranded and couldn't get up due to all the stuff connected. TWO hours later the doctor came back to discuss the prognoses with me and at that time I told him I needed to use the restroom then he got another nurse to help. That nurse helped and she gave me the TV/nurse-request remote. I will say that the the original nurse did an excellent job putting in the IV. I have hard to find vains. She found a good vain quickly and put it in with precision. No bruise afterwards either. I've only had to have IVs 3 times before in my life but those times left a big bruise. The two hours being left stranded in the room is the main reason that I only left 2 stars, 4 stars if it wasn't for that. This was my first time to ever have the need to go to an ER. I've never have been admitted to a hospital before this so this was all new to me. This is a good thing considering my age, but didn't help my understanding of what I needed to know. Next time, if there is a next time to have the need to be admitted to any hospital, I will definitely make sure I have the remote before the nurse walks out of the room. No one should have to ask for that; it should be at the bed, reachable for every patient when they check into a room. Period read more

I called tonight to get some information/help on how to get my 3 year old's fever down. I had been trying unsuccessfully all day and her fever kept climbing. I called our regular physician's number first and couldn't get through so I thought I'd try to get advice from Evergreen. The first person I spoke with actually laughed at me when I said I wanted advice on bringing my daughter's fever down. She laughed and said, condescendingly, "I'll transfer you to an advice nurse." I recently went into the ER with severe back pain. I was having a hard time breathing, numb feeling legs, and had fallen. The gal who pushed me in the wheelchair was very sweet, however the next people I encountered didn't really make me feel welcomed or even that I had an issue. The triage nurse checked my vitals and when the name band went on, I wasn't even asked to verify it. I quickly got into a room which was the great thing, but when I got there my name band had the incorrect birthday on it and after speaking to registration my phone number was also wrong. Luckily I had caught all this before anything was really done because that would have been an issue later down the road. The Physicians assistant was in the room very quickly (which again a nice surprise) however, I was very disappointed that she would ask me why I would think I wasn't pregnant after telling her I wasn't. She then proceeded to tell me that she was just going to give me pain medication and then we'd go from there. At this point my pain level was a 9.5 and when I had explained to her my concern she would basically continue asking me the same question over and over again like I wasn't telling the truth. I've never felt so mistreated while visiting the ER (this is my first time in WA as I am originally from AZ). I Was then given the medication and sent home because they refused to give me an MRI. As the physicians assistant stated that it was a $10,000 medical procedure that they weren't willing to do. Mind you I have insurance and it's not state insurance. At this point I just felt like I was brought to a bed to have pain medication shoved down my throat and then sent home. Perhaps there could have been a better solution as I was in a whole lot of pain and my limbs were going numb and I couldn't feel them. Please think twice before coming here. Right before bed we discovered an issue with our sons leg - spider bite or some sort of infection. we didn't want to go through the night so we went to Evergreen Emergency department. We got there around 9:30pm - triaged by the Nurse and we were brought directly back to our room. Before we got settled the Physician - Dr. Connelly was in our room and looking at my 7 year old. He did a thorough exam and he decided to give us antibiotics but asked us to wait until the morning to ensure that it wasn't just a local irrigation - when my son woke up the spot was bigger so we started the antibiotics in the morning but I appreciated the options instead of just giving my 7 year old unneeded antibiotics. So after all of that we were out of the Emergency department with a prescription and co-pay done by 10:00 pm - great service at an incredible speed. read more
