It's a historical, old but cute hotel. It's driven up and no elevator kind of place. The warning is I will give is to watch your credit card. They charged me twice for the room. They ran our card on Sunday when we checked out and then manually keyed in my card two days later and charged me again. The lobby smells quite badly, a sort of musty smell. The room also reeked of chemical cleaner. There's a lot of green forest all around, benches and an outdoor gas fireplace, but the fireplace and swimming pool were closed. read more

We stayed at the Kirkwood Inn for a long weekend. We enjoyed our stay here! It's a historic motel, they don't have the amenities of a large chain, but it has a lot of charm. It is in a convenient location to Kings Island and Cincinnati. The location is very quiet and seemed relatively safe. There is a gas station and shopping center close by. The room was exceptionally clean! The only complaints I have are that the bathtub drain was a little slow and the mini fridge didn't seem very cold. But aside from that the room was great. There is a breakfast at the historic house next door and it was really good, it was great to be able to go over and have breakfast in the cozy dining room. Another thing to note, there is a second floor with rooms, there is no elevator from my understanding. We will definitely consider staying here again. read more

I have never been treated so rudely. My group was willing to rent all the available rooms, but the owner (Sandy) got on the phone, quickly told me they could not accommodate a group our size, and then hung up on me! She would not even give me a chance to ask how many rooms were available! I guess we'll take our business to the Marriott. read more

Made the reservation months ago and we needed a handicapped room. When we checked in they said we don't guarantee it. 2nd floor room only. My Mother is in a wheelchair! Hotels all sold out in area. This place is something to definitely explore if you're planning a trip to the area around Mason or Kings Island. Pros: Great breakfast buffet. Plenty of options for any member of the family, and lots of seating in the quaint cottage. See photos for your morning spread (there is additional seating upstairs). Great deals on rooms and tickets to KI. This was pretty simple to arrange although you had to call and request the deal. On a good note, my special requests during the call were addressed before we made it to the room (add roll away bed - it was in the room when we checked in). Super courteous staff and friendly welcome even late at night (10pm). Gorgeous property and sparsely used pool. You can also see the fireworks from KI from the pool area at 10, which conveniently closes at 10:30. Cons: No confirmation of room via email, text or other electronic method. This doesn't usually bother me, but we almost had some changes to the trip so having a copy of the confirmation is helpful. It was fairly warm and humid during our trip (late June) and the a/c was not cooling off the room the first night (since we arrived so late). It was able to keep up better the next day, but only if you kept in on full blast. Recommendation: the cottage area is cute, it would be nice to have access to this space for groups post breakfast to play board games or other activities for youngsters are there are limited options in the area. I know there was a fireplace section outside, wasn't sure if this was ever in use. All in all, a definitely choice for anyone visiting this part of Ohio! read more

Absolutely love this little gem of a motel. It's hard to describe, but the minute you walk in the front office you are treated like family. The property is so cozy and quaint. this is a hidden gem. It's a quaint updated motor lodge where you can park your car at the door and feel safe. Rooms are very clean, bed comfy though the BEST part is the wonderful staff and their "will do anything" to make your stay great. As mentioned the breakfast buffet is something that is made by grandma and tastes that way. I hope to return during warmer weather to experience the gardens and pool. I love this place. I've been coming here for 5 years now and I've never had any complaints. I will keep coming here until I'm too old to ride the coaster anymore. Pros Very close to Kings Island but no noise from traffic or the city. Fairly big pool. Be warned it's not heated but it is clean with nice lounging chairs. Rooms are nice and very clean. It reminds me of an upgraded motel 6. My room had a flat screen tv, refrigerator, and coffee maker. There is a microwave and an ice machine in the hallway that runs through the middle of the building. Breakfast!!!! The breakfast is amazing. Eggs, sausage, biscuits, gravy, fruit, pastries, bagels, tea, and coffee. It's served in the historic house with pleasant music playing in the background. Even my picky 9-year old can find something he'll eat. The grounds are amazing. They have fountains, a gazebo, an outside fireplace, and a small woods with a path through it. Everything about this place is calming and relaxing. Quirks (not really cons) Check in is 3pm and they are pretty strict about that. Sometimes I've been able to check in at 2:30 but it's rare. This won't affect you, but, like I said I've been coming here for 5-6 years, and started bringing my extended family with me so now we take up a block of rooms, and every year they ask me if I've stayed here before. I wish they had something in place where they would know I'm a regular and say "welcome back" instead of "Have you stayed with us before?" Such a small thing... read more

What a hidden gem we found. We were going to stay at another property and we ended up canceling and going here. Thank goodness we did because this place is amazing. The property is well maintained and manicured. You can tell that the owners really love their work. Cute benches for sitting, flowers everywhere, and a nature trail too! Had a deal for a "play and stay" couples package, which included 2 tickets to Kings Island. The online deal was $139 for the first night and $69 for the second. When we arrived they tried to charge us extra.... $159 and $89, luckily the owner was very kind and gave us the original price, and also upgraded our room! Inside the room was nothing special. Regular box television, nice refrigerator, clean bathroom. Very Clean all together! Free buffet breakfast every morning in the Kirkwood House, which was very nice. The first day, Saturday morning was just "ok" Fresh fruit, sweets, fresh biscuits, coffee, juice, as well as homemade waffles. Great deal, descent food, nothing spectacular. Enjoyed our stay. Very quiet, away from the city. Very quick drive to King's Island, which was probably 5 minutes, and 10 minutes away from all the restaurants. read more

My Wife and I spent a couple days here in June 2013 to celebrate our 25th Anniversary and really enjoyed our stay. The gardens are very nice and we liked sitting out on the patio in the evening. The rooms are not the best I've stayed in but they were clean and comfortable. We purchased a pkg deal that included a dinner at a local restaurant. The staff was very accommodating and gave us an upgrade when they realized the restaurant we wanted wasn't open on the night we requested. We had adjoining rooms and both were exceptionally clean and spacious. The furnishings were very nicely taken care of and the bedding was snowy white. They offer a complimentary breakfast and it is obvious that great care is taken while preparing it. The yellow house where the meal is served is set up for family style dining and everywhere you look you see a memory in the form of room accents, displayed crockery and dishes. This would be a great place to stay when you visit King's Island, it is just a short trip. There are quite a few dining options within a few miles, this place is not as out of the way as it seems. An amazing place to stay and we highly recommend this for families. The rooms were spacious. We asked for a roll away bed and had plenty of room to put it in the room even with 2-queen beds. The beds were comfortable. The breakfast they included was by far the best "free" breakfast we have ever had (eggs, biscuits and gravy, corned beef hash, a plethora of fresh fruit, pastries, and fresh breads and sweet breads). Parking right in front of your door without the hassle of a large hotel. The prices are right and the country breakfast at the farmhouse building built in 1799 was fabulous. I really enjoyed my stay at this location. Like most are saying the rooms aren't the best but they are not horrible. My fiancé and I got a package deal with 2 day tickets for kings island. The scenery here is amazing!! We really enjoyed the garden and relaxing outside after a long day at the park. The staff and owner were very courteous and helpful. We are antique buffs and love seeing vintage furniture and the older atmosphere. Felt very homey if you will. The breakfast buffet was the best we'd ever had and we travel a lot. My husband and two kids (3&5 yrs old) stayed here after a long day at Kings Island. We checked in late in the evening, and I was greeted at the counter by the sweetest lady, Sandy, I believe. Our room had all the amenities of a chain hotel, but with a comfort of 'home' usually only achieved by the bed and breakfasts. Included a refrigerator a After a nice sleep (with an abundance of pillows on the beds, major PLUS in my book!), we walked over to the "house" through the garden where breakfast is located. Wow. Ms Pat was in there working so hard to make everything look so nice and fancy! Lots of options and you could tell it was all done with a love for the guests. We didn't get to enjoy the gardens/grounds much because we left on the early side and it was unseasonably cold, but just looking at it as we walked to breakfast put a serene feeling to the start of the day. Loved this spot! After booking a room for our wedding, My Wife and I decided to change locations and use the gazebo and garden for our ceremony. It was very small so the location was perfect and beautiful. We were charged $129 for a half hour use of the gazebo, although I'm not sure why since the gazebo was still open to the public and nothing was "reserved" for our use. Nevertheless, I was HAPPY to pay a reasonable price to have the spot. I could tell they spent a little extra time prepping the area for us. Well worth it. The rooms were pleasantly surprising. Very clean with pleasant and friendly staff all the way from booking up until check out. We LOVED breakfast in the Kirkwood House. You have to be a history nerd to truly enjoy this spot. I booked this room not expecting a lot. I didn't read reviews beforehand. Wow, were we surprised! The room was very clean, quiet, comfortable, and nicely updated for an older hotel. The staff was very friendly and accommodating, especially Pat who served breakfast. We were there in the off-season, so the price was great. Everything was included, except for a microwave, but that isn't a deal breaker for me. The breakfast, which was served in the original inn behind the more modern hotel, was very good, and had lots of choices, especially for a weekday. We also toured the beautiful grounds, and can't wait to come back when all of the gardens are in bloom. The brick sidewalk to the original inn was lined with lavender plants that were still blooming. We picked a few sprigs to tuck in our pockets. This hotel is convenient to King's Island, but also just down the road from Lebanon and Waynesville, with their array of antique and gift shops. My friend and I will be returning for what we hope to be another very pleasant stay. read more
